A fire crew came under attack by a gang of young adults on Monday evening while attending the scene of a bonfire in Knockbridge. Fireworks and rockets were thrown at the firemen who had been called out to Knockbridge to attend to a bonfire at around 11pm. The same crew had earlier been called out to Knockbridge to put out a burnt-out car which was driven onto the local green and set alight at approximately 9pm. When the crew got out of the fire engine to attend to the bonfire a gang of young adults began to throw fireworks and bangers at the firemen. Thankfully nobody was injured in the attack which occurred on what is traditionally the busiest night of the year for the fire serv-
ice. Louth County Council released a statement on Tuesday morning confirming that the incident took place. “Fireworks and rockets were thrown at the fire crew while attending to a call in the Knockbridge area. However, no injuries were sustained and there was no damage to the fire appliance.” Local Sinn Fein councillor Tomás Sharkey who is a resident of Knockbridge condemned those who were involved in the senseless attack. “This was a case of young adults who I believe were under the influence of drugs getting up to no good. There was plenty of spooky Halloween fun and games in primary schools around town last week with all the children and even some of the teachers dressing up in scary Halloween costumes as they got ready for their mid-term break last Friday. Castletown Girls School was no place for the faint hearted with wolves, mummies, witches and even a scary looking Donald Trump roaming the corridors as pupils and teachers all took part in various games and activities to celebrate Halloween. In the Redeemer school, boys and girls had been up since the crack of dawn getting themselves ready judging by the excellent costumes
