traders have done but in general I think that the signs were positive. “The opening of Guiney’s on Clanbrassil Street definitely helped to bring a bit more footfall up that end of town and it has given a much-needed boost to the street. Unfortunately, we will have disruptions for traders for most of this year now due to the upgrade works on Clanbrassil St which start on Monday but it is something that needs to be done and I know the businesses will remain resilient while this work takes place,” he stated.
Martin McElligott from the BIDS office in Dundalk has delivered an upbeat update on the local economy following a busy Christmas period for local retailers. According to Martin most traders he spoke to seemed to enjoy a busy festive period and were in good spirits generally after the annual Christmas rush. “I suppose most of the people that I spoke to after Christmas were pretty happy with their Christmas season. Conor’s St Stephen’s Day Fundraiser
By Paul Byrne The annual Crosscause fundraiser on Blackrock beach once again proved to be a huge success with Conor Hughes and company raising €5000 on the day. All proceeds will go to towards a new eye treatment clinic in Ghana which Crosscause hope to open within the next twelve months. Conor’s charity Crosscause has been helping the people of Romania, Moldova and Ghana for over ten years and his St Stephen’s Day get together is the charity’s main fundraiser each year.
