Residents in Louth Village are urging Louth County Council to introduce traffic calming measures in order to avoid a tragedy. The welcome opening of a play park in the centre of the village has brought more children, but has also highlighted the risk posed by large volumes of traffic, some of which is travelling at excessive speed. As a result of those concerns, a public meeting was called recently at which many local community groups gathered to voice their fears. Among those in attendance was Gerry
Campbell, the Secretary of the Hall Committee and local resident, who explained that given that the village is located on the road between Dundalk and Tallanstown there are always large volumes of traffic. “The main aim of the meeting was to raise awareness of the issue and to put pressure on the council to see what could be done. We want to make sure that action is taken now, rather than waiting for a child to be injured or killed before anything is done”, explained Gerry. “Speeding traffic has been a problem for some time but we were told that due to costs, Full Story Page 21
