Budding athletes need modern running track

Calls have been made to construct a modern running track in Dundalk to help build on the success of the talented young athletes that have come to prominence over the past few weeks. One of the town’s leading coaches has claimed that the progress of athletes is being restricted by the lack of facilities, while a local county councillor has stated that the issue must now be addressed. July was a month that will live long in the memory for everybody associated with St Gerard’s Athletic club. Current members Kate O’Connor and Patience Jumbo-Gula both claimed bronze medals on the European stage while former member Gina Akpe Moses claimed a memorable gold at the European U20 championships in Italy. 18-year old Gina’s achievements made the headlines as she became the first athlete to win gold at the U20 European championships in 12 years Full story on Page 2
