Caolan Rafferty added to Dundalk’s memorable sporting summer when he won his first golfing major on Sunday by capturing the South of Ireland Championship at Lahinch. The 25-year-old member of Dundalk Golf Club produced a magnificent birdie on the 20th hole to beat fellow Ireland international Rowan Lester of Hermitage and become only the second Dundalk player to win one of Irish amateur golf ’s major championships, bridging a 69 year gap to Mick Ferguson’s victory in the East of Ireland in 1949. Appeal for witnesses following house fire Gardaí in Dundalk have made a renewed calls for witnesses following a house fire at Castle Park in early July. A 56-year old man was forced to jump out of a first-floor window to escape the blaze and he remains in a critical condition in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Full Story Page 10
