Part of town’s history comes crashing down By Caoimhe Lynch

There was heartbreak across Dundalk last week when the handball alleys that have stood proudly at the entrance of St Mary’s College for many years were demolished. Among those lamenting the loss of a piece of the town’s history was Hannah Finnegan, who has lived on St Mary’s Road overlooking the courts for 21 years. She was extremely saddened by the occasion having grown up in a family of handball players: “I’m very upset to see the alleys being knocked down. There is just so much heritage and history attached to them. I don’t understand how anyone could knock down something so old and Hannah Finnegan with her grand-daughter Hazel outside the Marist. Give Louth a fair tourism chance By Paul Byrne Failte Ireland have once again emphasised that Co. Louth will be an integral part of their ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ campaign which will be rolled out next summer to try and build on the wealth of historical and cultural assets in the east of Ireland. Louth had originally been omitted from an interactive map during the launch for ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ back in April leading to widespread shock and disappointment from many people in the Wee County. An apology to all in Co.
