AUTUMN 2019

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Neighbours! In late June a group of knowledgeable shoppers gathered to jury new venders who will be invited to participate in the November 23rd Craft Fair. Dunbar is a highpoint for many craft fair connoisseurs as the variety of sellers makes our event special. Here are a few other dates that you should mark in your calendar: • Wednesday, December 4th is when the Festive Tree lighting is scheduled with hot drinks and treats for all the young attendees. • Saturday, December 7th is Breakfast with Santa. Be sure to register early as this is a sell-out each year. Stay tuned for some new program offerings this fall. The Reading Tree for preschoolers. It is an early literacy program designed to prepare children for preschool. Check out the Bee Workshops that are being offered and get ready to host a hive in your garden next year, or create a bee friendly garden to support our community centre bees as they travel around the neighbourhood looking for good places to dine. Remember, Dunbar Community Centre offers a great location for birthday parties with several different options including a Bouncy Castle Party, an Arts and Craft Party or try a Cooking Party. One last thing, the kitchen permits have been applied for and we hope that renovations will begin shortly. Please excuse any noise and disruption that this might create. Just remember that the end result of two certified kitchens will be well worth it as we can then offer a whole new range of programs and services. See you at the centre. All the best, Colleen

Dear friends and neighbours, The Dunbar Community Centre Association is proud to announce that the Centre will be renaming the Dunbar Room, to the Gerry Massing Room.  It has been a hard year missing our friend, leader, neighbour, husband and father—Gerry was so many things to so many people.  We think of him often, and would like to invite you to celebrate his life and legacy with us at the Community Centre on October 4 to unveil the renaming of a focal room in the Centre, the Gerry Massing Room.  Please celebrate with us as we will remember our dear past President and mentor and enjoy some of Gerry’s favourite refreshments and food. Please watch for more event details on our website and posted around the centre.

Yoga Hatha Yoga

Candlelight Yin Yoga

This evening class brings a mellow and contemplative end to your day with candles and soft music. Yin Yoga is a powerful but passive practice designed to bring more flexibility and deeper relaxation to the body. Yin targets the connective tissues of the body — ligaments, tendons and fascia — to open and lengthen, using a series of poses which are held for a length of time. Yin Yoga is a great de-stessor and practitioners often notice a sense of peace and restfulness. This is a fantastic complementary practice for a more active style of Yoga or indeed any intense physical exercise. The use of props ensures accessibility for almost anyone and modifications are given depending on individual needs.
