Headmaster’s Welcome

Dumpton has such a rich history, being founded in 1903 in Broadstairs, Kent as a boys’ preparatory boarding school. I wonder if the founders of the school in 1903 in Kent could have imagined us gathering here in 2024, celebrating the fruits of their labour!

The school’s pupils were evacuated to Dorset during the Second World War, and the school itself was moved to Cranborne Chase in 1945. The four houses of Kent, Sussex, Hants and Dorset are named after that journey. After a spell at Gaunt’s House just north of Wimborne, the school finally took situ here at Deans Grove in 1987. In fact some guests here tonight are amongst the pupils who spent the final two weeks of that 1987 Summer Term moving boxes and furniture!

At Dumpton we are proud to promote and have the support of local business. We care about our community, local economy and our environment, which is why we have championed local for this event. We thank all our local sponsors for contributing to making this ball so special and for donating special prizes to be won in our Grand Draw. We must also recognise all those Dumpton Friends parents, who have helped decorate and give the final touches to this evening.

I truly hope you all have a wonderful time tonight, with friends old and new. With my thanks to all of the people who have worked tirelessly to make it happen, and here’s to the next 120!

WAINSCOT BLANC DE NOIRS £50

Wainscot is the delicious product of only our best Pinot grapes from the finest vintages. Produced in very limited quantities almost exclusively for our own personal cellar, we might just be persuaded to share!

QUERCUS BLANC DE BLANCS, AGED IN OAK £90

Newly released for 2024, this exceptional, vintage, Oak Aged Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine – Cépages: 100% Chardonnay, Dosage 8g/l. Alcohol Content 12% – has the added unique complexity that only ageing in seasoned oak barrels can bring to the wine.
