Group 4 Physics (HL/SL)

Entry Guidance

For students interested in taking HL Physics, it is recommended that they have successfully completed International GCSE Physics, International GCSE Coordinated Science, or a course of similar rigour.

Course Aims

The IBDP Physics course aims to enable students to develop an understanding of the nature of science, by studying the fundamental principles of physics illustrated with a practical approach. Through a variety of topics, the course promotes an understanding of how scientists justify knowledge claims and an understanding of the scientific world view, with a focus on the models that are developed to try to understand observations. Through experience, knowledge and reflection, the student will become trained to approach uncertainty scientifically and will develop aspects of the learner profile.

Course Content

• For both SL and HL: space, time and motion, the particulate nature of matter, wave behaviour, fields, nuclear and quantum physics

• Experimental programme: practical work, collaborative sciences project, scientific investigation
