Welcome to Hampton Court House

Welcome to Hampton Court House School and our inaugural careers fair I am absolutely delighted to host this event and to have such an excellent range of exhibitors join us today: from law to construction, theatre to the police, I believe we have something for all of our students to enjoy and learn about

We regularly hear that many jobs that our young people will have in future do not currently exist It therefore falls to us as educators to excite aspiration in our students and enable them to explore options, investigate opportunities and use their imaginations to see where their career may take them

For some students, it may take many years to find their passion, for others it could be just one inspiring conversation that ignites their interest Whatever path each person takes, we encourage all the young people here today to take ownership, be empowered and glean knowledge from our wonderful contributors here today

Thank you to everyone who has made this event possible; your time and contribution is greatly appreciated

Keynote speaker: Faye Barker, ITN (Media)

Faye Barker is a TV presenter and reporter at ITV News with more than 20 years ’ experience in the industry She can be seen regularly presenting ITV News bulletins at weekends and the ITV News London updates during Good Morning Britain and following News at Ten. She also reports on a wide range of stories for the ITV Lunchtime News and is one of the presenters of the ITV News What You Need To Know podcast Recently she was part of the launch team creating bespoke news content for ITVX

Faye grew up in Devon and Cornwall and first walked into a London newsroom at the age of 21, working her way up from a runner to an Assistant Producer at CNBC, writing and producing rolling business news Her ambitions however always lay in presenting and reporting and, at the end of her shift, she could be found in an unused studio, practising reading an autocue, recording a voiceover or volunteering to do some extra filming

These skills didn’t go unnoticed when she joined ITN as a Production Journalist and, at the age of 24, Faye made her network reporting debut with 5 News and presented her first bulletin. Two years later she was offered a presenting job with ITV Yorkshire’s regional news programme, Calendar At ITV Yorkshire, Faye expanded her role outside of news and worked as an undercover reporter on three series of the popular peak time ITV show Package Holiday Undercover, when she spent several summers exposing some of the dingiest, darkest and quite frankly disgusting hotels on the planet Using these undercover skills, she also fronted an award-winning documentary into the dangers of bogus taxis

After leaving ITV Yorkshire, Faye returned to London as a freelance presenter and reporter Clocking up her hours on air for ITV News in the aftermath of big events like the Boxing Day Tsunami set her up for a move to Sky News where she presented rolling coverage during many extraordinary and everyday news events During this time, she was also presenting again for Five News as well as Setanta Sports News

In January 2009, Faye returned to ITN full-time as a presenter of the ITV Morning News – a role which included presenting London Tonight and other ITV News bulletins Today, Faye remains a key member of the presenting and reporting team and has extensive skills in editing and writing Her experience means she can be trusted to present and report on the top story of the day, as well as on subjects from consumer issues through to the arts, with a particular talent for writing moving and uplifting “And Finally” stories

As a married mum-of-three, Faye keeps busy outside of work with her family but always makes time for her dance class and the occasional singalong on the piano
