Owner Kim Cates makes her love for Duke students quite clear, as shown by the accessibility of her cell phone and Facebook page alongside her loyalty to Duke sports.
Kim Cates isn’t the only fan-favorite at Shooters. Students tend to agree that the entire bar staff is friendly and welcoming, adding to the bar’s extreme popularity.

Favorite Male Athlete at Duke
This all-star Women’s basketball player showed unstoppable performances before suffering an injury that led her to miss a large part of this year’s season. Graceful, aggressive and determined, this sophomore helped lead the USA Basketball Team in the 2015 U19 World Championship and started her Duke career last year with a major bang, earning ACC Freshman of the Week honors four times. Stevens has a lot to give, and it’s no doubt she’ll continue to be a crucial element for the Blue Devils.
Talk about a rise to stardom—this sophomore has made a major mark on the court and in the hearts of all Cameron Crazies. Allen is energetic and fierce, with an impressive vertical leap and a pretty reliable free throw. He helped lead the Blue Devils to win the NCAA National Championship last year, and carried the team on his back throughout the course of this past season. Most fans can only cross their fingers and hope that he’ll remain a Dukie for the next two years.
