Discover Cathedral of the Assumption
The Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik Cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The local legend says the cathedral was funded by Richard the Lion Heart in the 1190s. After being shipwrecked upon his return from the Crusades, Richard vowed to give money for a church building if his life was spared. The Cathedral was destroyed in an earthquake in 1667 and it was constructed again 1713. The treasury has a number of paintings of extraordinary value.

Sv. Dominika 9 (Fort Revelin)
One of the most important buildings in the history of Dubrovnik
Situated at the end of Stradun, this Gothic Renaissance style building was completed in the early 16th century. Don't get it wrong, as palaces in Croatia do not refer to palaces for Kings and Queens, it was rather a residence for state offices including bank, treasury, armory etc. It was miraculous that this was yet another building almost undamaged in the severe earthquake in 1667. Today, Sponza is home to the State Archives and a Memorial Room of the Dubrovnik Defenders. The courtyard is used primarily for various art exhibitions.

Konavle features rich history, landmarks, and cultural treasures.
Since ancient times, the area of Konavle has been under the influence of different peoples and rulers, and therefore the history of this region is rich and layered. The layered course of Konavle's history can truly be re-discovered today through the monumental heritage, starting with the prehistoric Illyrian mounds, Mithraeum, the medieval tombestones in Brotnice or the UNESCO site St.Barbara.
By purchasing Konavle in the 15th century, the Republic of Dubrovnik rounded off its territory. Konavle thus becomes economically and strategically an extremely important area managed by the Rector. The symbols of the Republic's government are the recently renovated Rector's Palace in Pridvorje, as well as the one in Cavtat.
Part of the rich heritage of the Republic are the impressive fortress Sokol grad in the village of Dubravka, the complex of watermills on the Ljuta river, but also the stone architecture of the Konavle villages, which gives a special stamp to the area.
In Cavtat, it is essential to visit the House of Vlaho Bukovac, the birthplace and museum of one of the greatest Croatian painters, as well as the Mausoleum of the Račić family, a monumental masterpiece by the sculptor Ivan Meštrović. The aforementioned Rector’spalace from the sixteenth century today is a gallery and art collection of the foundation of Baltazar Bogišić, a well-known legal historian from Konavle with an international career and European reputation.
The identity of the people of this region, their perseverance and special connection with their homeland is deeply woven into the rich cultural and historical heritage of Konavle, which is enjoyed today by many tourists who visit Konavle.
The richness of Konavle's cultural heritage, traditions and customs, has been cherished for centuries in its original form and in a special way., KUD Čilipi, which has been continuously performing every Sunday since 1967., also takes care of Konavle's customs and heritage.
With the presentation of customs, dances, songs, traditional folk costumes, jewelry and other rich heritage displayed in the Konavle County Museum, it is not surprising that the whole world wants to experience a part of this centuries-old story.
Step into history while walking around the Walls of Ston!
Originally constructed in the early 16th century to safeguard the city of Ston in southern Croatia, this remarkable fortification spans over 7 kilometers. These walls consist of the main wall and three forts (Veliki Kaštio, Koruna, and Podzvizd), forty-one towers, seven bastions (Sokolic, Arcimon in Ston, the three bastions of Veliki Kaštel, the Podzvizda bastion, and the Arcimon in Mali Ston), four pre-walls (the eastern and south-western Ston pre-walls, the Mali Ston pre-wall, and the Korun pre-wall), and a water-filled moat that stretches around the western, southern, and eastern edges of Ston. Often called the 'European Great Wall of China,' these walls safeguarded Dubrovnik's prized salt pans, a testament to their enduring strength and strategic importance. Today, the Walls of Ston stand as one of the world's longest-preserved fortification systems, revered for their architectural grandeur and historical significance.

When you visit Neretva Valley, don't miss exploring Queen Teuta's pearls, just two kilometres from Ploče town. With its picturesque location and rich history, this is an experience you do not want to miss! Legend says the love of the famous Illyrian queen Teuta for the Baćina lakes gave them the nickname "Queen Teuta's pearls".Baćina Lakes is a group of 7 beautiful lakes connected by passages and canals, making it a fantastic spot to explore! The lakes have exceptional natural value because they are the habitat of many protected plant and animal species, 6 of which are endemic. There are plenty of activities to do at the Baćina lakes. We recommend trying guided adventure tours, such as kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddling. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can opt for traditional boat safari tours instead. The boats used for these tours are replicas of ones used in Neretva Valley for centuries. Cycling lovers have a 15 km trail around the lakes with info points about the wildlife of Baćina lakes.
