M

oney, time, patience, persistence, opportunity and resources are some of the things that are needed to transform a stock truck or Jeep into something worthy of being admired and adored at events, on social media and in magazines. Photographer/car enthusiast Solomon Lunger was tired of always being behind the lens and wanted to get into his own vehicle project. During a whim of a test drive, he found the perfect F-250 and jumped at the opportunity to build something that was just as good (or even better) than other trucks he’s captured. Once you catch the customizing bug, it stays with your forever! Gary Brewer started out with a mild custom build, but became infatuated with having the best show queen around after seeing all the builds at a Daytona Truck Meet.

Not one to feel defeated, Gary made sure his next visit would be different! Jeff Cleer of Voodoo Customs knew he needed something radically different for SEMA and came up with a Tiki-themed ride that’s a tropical feast on the eyes! The monster of a truck even features custom bamboo accents and other Tiki-styling throughout. Cody Hill and his wife were looking at getting a side-by-side to take their family out on adventures now that their 4-year-old son was old enough. What they ended up with was an overthe-top Can-Am Maverick X3 X RS Turbo R that may be a toy, but is now a 100% show stopper! Working for DUB has its perks, including some sweet inspiration, which is what got Danny Serna his So. Cal-inspired Jeep JK that’s perfect

for the region’s warm weather year-round. Brian Huff didn’t let his heart condition stop him from creating his dream rig and even postponed an important surgery to show it off at SEMA...now that’s dedication! PIRELLI’S NEW SCORPION ALL TERRAIN PLUS

W

hen it comes to tires that can handle both paved roads and loose terrain, we’ve previously come to the conclusion that you can’t have your cake and eat it, too. Let’s face it, off-road tires are great on dirt and mud, yet can be noisy on roads and reduce fuel economy. Though there are some decent all-terrain tires that can perform on various surfaces, they can’t do both well. The folks at Pirelli have been working to fill these needs, and their Scorpion A/T Plus Tire might be the game changer. In case you don’t know, Pirelli is one of the world’s leading tire companies for on-road motorsports and competition. Given their great reputation for grip on paved surfaces, the engineers did not want to skimp on those capabilities while formulating the compound for the new all-terrain tires. The goal was to create a new line that would provide a smooth ride, grip on roads and keep road noise to a minimum. On top of all that, the tires still needed to have an aggressive tread design to perform on loose surfaces as well. 44

The “Plus� in its name means that it is an enhanced version of the original Scorpion. One of the biggest improvements is the aggressive tread pattern, as the previous design was reminiscent of a luxury performance tire. Along with the new look came beefier shoulders and sidewall blocks that can aid in tough conditions. These tires also have great traction on wet surfaces. On the sidewall, we noted the Three Peaks Snowflake and M+S markings to denote that they are not only good for all-terrains, but all weather conditions, too. We recently headed to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Pirelli was hosting a test session for their Scorpion A/T Plus tires. We know what you are thinking: we went to a Pirelli-sanctioned event and our opinions would be biased from the experience. To the contrary, we have plenty of experience with tires of this segment, and we were set on finding their limits. This held true, as we pushed them hard enough for us to be on the verge of getting kicked out of the event! At the site, there were several different courses. Our first was the paved track. Despite piloting heavy SUVs on a racetrack, we got the vehicles up to speed and carved the corners until we were able to break the tires loose. It took quite some work to get them to this point, and we were surprised at how relentless they were at keeping traction.

Next was loose gravel. We didn’t get to drive the trucks for this part, but the professional drivers did give us an impressive display of keeping up on high-grades. Afterwards, we were able to drive them on a mixed surface track with wet conditions, and even a full short-course dirt track. Again, we pushed the trucks and SUVs hard to find the limits. We can full-heartedly admit that it took a lot of effort to get these tires to slip on us. We were thoroughly impressed with their capabilities. Lastly came the high-speed courses, which were our favorite segment of the event. Even though we were there to test all-terrain tires, Pirelli got us behind the wheel of a full racespec supercar. It may have been unnecessary for the event, but it did prove to us the high standards of Pirelli’s other products. Having the opportunity to go full-throttle in a Lamborghini on the LVMS road course, you better believe we went hard, and even pitched the car sideways to make sure we got the most out of the experience. Afterwards, we took a Chevy Suburban up to 110-mph on the oval speedway. As the all-terrain tires rotated at high-speeds, one element was missing: tire noise. These same tires not only held up on a dirt track, but they were quiet at speeds fit for the Autobahn. The testing was quite the experience thanks to the allowance to go all out with these tires on multiple surfaces. To our surprise, they exceeded our expectations. The only downfall we found with them is that at the moment the largest size is just over 34” tall on a maximum of a 20” wheel. But if you can find a size that suits your needs, they are guaranteed to last with a 50K-mile warranty. In the end, Pirelli’s new Scorpion All Terrain Plus is not ideal for everyday off-roading, but it is an everyday tire that can handle the demands of going off-road when the challenge presents itself. 46

BRIAN HUFF’S CHEVY 2500 NEVER SKIPS A BEAT WORDS: FUELISH MEDIA PHOTOS: DALE MARTIN

T

o some, setbacks are something to whine about for the sake of gaining sympathy. To others, they are a catalyst to strive beyond everyone’s expectations. Brian Huff is one that has overcome struggles and, as you can see, quite capable of building impressive trucks. Unfortunately for Brian, he was born with a heart defect and depends 100% on a pacemaker. Though it sounds like Brian would have a troublesome time in life, he actually isn’t much different from everyone else. The only real struggle is that he can’t participate in high-paced activities and requires surgery every five years to replace the battery in his pacemaker. So what does a person like Brian do for a hobby? Make the machines they depend on badass, of course, tinkering with anything and everything related to automobiles. Like most of us, Brian got hooked at an early age by checking out all the wild rides featured in magazines. This eventually led him to customizing his rides and going to shows. Not one to be underestimated, Brian has touched quite a number of vehicles including a 2004 Silverado 2500 with a straight front axle conversion. That truck had a mean stance and was a hit with show-goers. Though the 2500 created a big impact, Brian was thirsty for more and came up with the idea of this 2015 Chevy named “Blasé,” suggesting that the rig was no big deal to fix up in the first place. For guys like Brian, this may not be some insane custom, but it’s nothing short of a sick ride. Blasé has an unmistakable presence thanks to the help of Lyons Automotive, providing the right combination of aftermarket parts to make it truly unique. Providing the majority of its tall stature is the 12” Cognito lift that was combined with Fox reservoir shocks for a smooth ride. With some height added to the suspension, it allowed for this truck to run some big rollers. Fitting the bill is a set of 24x14 Dropstars Forged F60 wheels that were anodized blue. Taking the lead role in the traction department is a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers in 40x14.5R24. The Dropstars wheels give this truck a distinctive style while the Nitto tires top it all off with the aggressive tread pattern and sidewall design to get the job done right.

Though Brian’s truck has a stout Duramax, it’s easier to get the new large rollers moving with a little more muscle from under the hood. Maximizing power, the ECU was tuned by PPEI and is controlled and monitored by an Edge CTS 2 Evolution. Supplying cold air to fuel the Duramax is an Edge Jammer air intake. On the other end of it all is a 5” exhaust from Flo~Pro. This combination of parts gets this truck up to speed and lets everyone know what’s up. Another way this truck stands out is with the bold exterior styling. Giving you a warning to get out of its way is the BodyGuard A2L Series bumpers with Monster Hooks’ Swivel Shackles. The front end was transformed with a Royalty Core custom grille that has the truck’s name in the center. Out back, a set of N-Fab Nerf Steps are secured under the rocker panels, while the top of the cab holds an SBC Racks roof rack. In the bed is a Bedrug Bed Liner and a set of swing cases with BOLT Locks, all topped off with an LSX Ultra Series tonneau cover from A.R.E. Rounding out the rest of the exterior accessories are a set of lights from Firewire LEDs and a Horn Blaster train horn system.

Brian is a firm believer in driving all of his custom creations, including this truck. Spending time behind the wheel does mean that the interior needs to be comfortable, but that doesn’t mean it has to be lacking in style. Spicing things up is a complete Roadwire interior kit in black and blue leather. Adding more hints of blue on the inside, a few trim pieces were hydrodipped by Limitless Hydrographics. Keeping Brian entertained on long road trips to shows is an audio system that features Kicker CX Series speakers, Comp R subwoofers and a 43CXA1200.1 amp.

You may have also noticed a custom wrap by Deluxe Garage that covers the body. This was made to host the “Truck Hero” logo, as this truck attended the 2017 SEMA show to promote the brand. During the weeks leading up to the show, Brian was due to change the battery for his pacemaker. Each of these surgeries puts him down for a month while his body recovers from the swap. And if the battery were to die on him, he would have merely minutes left before his body comes to a halt. Putting it all on the line, Brian delayed the surgery until the show was over, which proved that he wasn’t about to miss it for anything. After a successful trip to SEMA, Brian made sure to get a new surge of energy in order to keep his ticker working properly. Now that he got the battery switch handled, he’s been busy 54

turning heads and swooping up trophies. With a resurgence of power, there’s pretty much nothing that can stop Brian and he is ready for whatever. Brian would like to dedicate this build in memory of his best friend, Brandon Deming and grandfather, Elmo Huff. WHITE 2017 FORD F-250 4X4 LARIAT

T

here comes a time when you stop being a spectator and get into the action. This applies to anything in life, especially car customizing. As an automotive photographer Solomon Lunger wasn’t just a spectator, but the guy behind the lens to countless photoshoots over the years. From top auto shows like SEMA and the Lone Star Throwdown to the best cars from across the nation, Solomon has captured them all.

Although he loves being behind the lens, he finally came to the realization that he needed to stop being a spectator and finally get in on some customizing action himself! As his first major project, he never really intended to build this F-250, admitting that it all happened by chance. As a self-proclaimed “truck geek,” when Solomon heard that a local Miami Ford dealer had the new bodystyle F-250 on hand, he jumped at the chance to take it out for a test drive (a strange, yet gratifying, hobby he admits to having). With zero intention of buying the truck when he first stepped foot on the dealership, his mind immediately changed when he got behind the wheel.

“The gears in my head started to turn,” he describes about how the truck came to be a show-worthy machine. “I have been building a network of clients that I do photography for, and am very good friends with a lot of shops that I thought this could maybe become a SEMA build.” A quick call to his buddies at I95 Motorsports and Forgiato secured his final decision to buy the truck and finally have his turn to showcase at the largest aftermarket show in the world. After he signed the paperwork, he drove it straight to Kenny at I95 Motorsports.

Mike from Strictly Customs created the rendering that would be the design map for the team, which solidified the start of Solomon’s automotive adventure. Despite having photographed some the craziest builds around, Solomon wanted something clean and classy for his own, opting for a white F-250 that he’d be able to complement with red - the colors of his hometown basketball team, the Miami Heat. “I wanted something that stood out but not too over the top. I built it with that in mind and I think it was executed well. It needed to be a truck that could perform well for everyday use, but still get cleaned up to rack up trophies at shows.” The foundation of the build was the lift and Solomon enlisted the guys from Plan B Fabrication to create a custom one-off lift that would satisfy the height requirement he was looking for. Thanks to his extensive list of contacts, Solomon was able to secure interest in the truck, gaining the products - new and fabricated - needed to transform it into his “White Knight.” Besides the custom laser cut lift kit with stainless steel overlays from Plan B,

Solomon’s other favorite mods include the front and rear bumpers, the color-matched accents and the Forgiato wheels he helped design. “I’ve always been a graphic designer and I like to draw random things,” he explains. “I was always infatuated with stars and actually drew the wheel design long before I ever thought of building a truck. I showed it to the guys at Forgiato and they liked it so much, they created custom wheels for me!” Despite working day and night on the truck, it wasn’t done in time to be unveiled in Forgiato’s booth at SEMA, but was first showcased at the Daytona Truck Meet. “In my opinion, it’s the best looking F-250 I have ever seen, but then again, I am biased!”

W

hile everyone else was building trucks and Jeeps, Cody Hill and his wife were busy setting their sights on a totally radical side-by-side that would more than deliver on the trails, while turning heads at the same time. To make their idea a reality, they called up their friend Dos Orr at ORR Motorsports in New Braunfels, TX, and got working on what would be a crazy SxS! “We wanted something to take to the sand dunes again since our 4-year-old son was now old enough to start going with us,” he explains. “We had sold our other bikes when he was born, so we were ready to get something going again. Let’s just say he absolutely loves it and enjoys riding in it!”

Can-Am had just released their new Maverick X3 X RS Turbo R, which Cody knew needed to be the base vehicle to make his build over the top. “It was the top-of-the-line SxS compared to all the other brands out there at the time. I’ve had and built other SxS in the past and this one is by far the best I’ve ever owned! Nothing was ever near this level. This was my opportunity to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing.”

Since Cody’s 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty SEMA truck would be hauling it, the SxS needed to match the color scheme. “The colors flowed really well and it matches completely,” he details. For the rest, he sat down with Doss at ORR and the guys from Audio Source to get the rendering just right. Because great minds think alike, Dos and Cody were on the same wavelength when it came to the design, but Cody made sure that it was dressed in lots of custom hydro dipping from his boys at Hyde-Dro Customs. “It made a huge difference in the appearance of the build and is by far one of my favorite mods thanks to its crazy looks that haven’t been seen before,” he says. “The other big thing we did was decide to tear it all the way down and powder coat the frame.” 76

To top off the build, a Wet Sounds audio system was installed. “We loaded it down with speakers and it sounds awesome!” They also mounted one-off 22x10 Specialty Forged Wheels and HCR suspension upgrade that gives it an “amazing” ride. The bespoke seats add to its over-the-top look, along with the custom roll cage by SDR and the light bar from Heretic Studios. “I love everything about this build… there’s nothing I would change on it if I had to do it all over again.” Cody’s not the only one to admire the result. When it’s shown off at events, people are shocked to see that it was taken all the way down to the frame and customized from the ground up. “People couldn’t believe the details we did on it!” Now Cody will continue to ride in it until it’s time to build up another one.

W

hen you work for DUB Magazine, you see inspiration all around you. From the pages of the magazine to the wild customs at the shows and events, you can’t help but want to create something of your own. Thus was the case for Danny Serna. As a past employee of DUB, he would transport many of the hottest cars to shows, events and more across the country. As a member of Nokturnal car club and an avid car enthusiast since he was young, Danny had wrenched on many of his own custom cars, but felt like he was missing something. “I’ve been in the scene for a while – from the Lowrider days to the beginning of big wheels – and have seen it transform into the whole ‘lifted’ scene and love all the things you can do to transform a regular Jeep into something totally different,” he explains. “There’s so much customizing you can do to a Jeep to give it a new look.” Once his mind was made up, it was time to search for the perfect Jeep and since he didn’t want to paint or wrap his build he was on the hunt for a Gobi tan 2017 Jeep JK.

Danny knew exactly what products he wanted to use for the build and went straight from the dealership to the shop. Born and raised in So. Cal, he wanted his Jeep to reflect the amazing weather the region is known for and decided to go with an open door, topless road warrior he’d be able to cruise in on the weekends. The Aries Automotive tube doors give it the perfect open-air look, while their Trailcrusher front bumper with brush guard, rear bumper and fender flares all enhance the JK’s sweet exterior. The Rugged Ridge performance vented hood and their Spartan grille really sets off the face of the JK and gets Danny’s blood pumping. “I love that mean look the Jeep gives off when you see it from the front,” he admits. “Add in the 40” Nitto Grapplers with 24” Dropstars and the Icon suspension and you’ve got a beast of a ride coming at you!” The factory fabric interior wasn’t cutting it so Danny opted to work with Alea Designs who helped him customize some Nappa leather seats that give the interior a luxurious look and feel and makes the Jeep stand out.

But the main highlight for Danny is the powerful RIPP Supercharger that made a night and day difference in power output. “Once I picked it up from Rebel Off Road who did the Icon and RIPP install I was blown away. People think it’s just another slow Jeep, but when I step to it and they see me fly by them, I get a thumbs up as I glance in the rearview mirror.” With everything taking about three months to complete, Danny was able to reach his goal of having it on display at SEMA. “I had a lot of Jeep enthusiasts getting on their hands and knees to crawl under it and check it all out,” he says. “But people loved it. They especially liked the RIPP Supercharger!” He does admit that he hasn’t taken it off pavement, something he says he’s hesitant to do because it’s still his “baby” and isn’t ready to get her banged up. “She’s more of my weekend cruiser,” he says. Although the majority of mods are done, there are still a few additions he’s hoping to add in the coming months, including an audio system and more. “I’ve set my mind to finish this Jeep before moving on to my next custom build, which will probably be a Dodge diesel to tow the Jeep!”

C

hristopher Polvoorde isn’t your average 18-year-old kid. While many kids his age are barely trying to figure out their calling in life, Christopher is already keeping busy in his preferred profession as a racer. Constantly on the move, when he’s not racing short course in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS), he’s training and competing cross-country on his mountain bike. And let’s not forget the fact that this academic overachiever graduated high school with a 4.5 GPA and is now attending the University of San Diego!

Christopher got his start in racing at a young age and in 2014 earned the Modified Kart Rookie of the Year award. The following year, he surpassed that by winning the LOORS Modified kart Championship and TORC series World Championship at “Big House” in Crandon, Wisconsin. Then in 2017, he came into the LOORRS Pro Lite Class swinging, winning the Rookie of the Year title. We caught up with the busy racer to talk about his start, future and new sponsorship with TIS wheels!

kart. In the beginning, I would just drive it in my backyard and then we would do a race every once in a while. After a few races we got the bug and now we are here.

How old were you when you first got behind the wheel of Junior 1 Kart and how did that come about? I was 10 years old when I first got behind the wheel of a Junior 1 Trophy kart. Someone owed my father money so he traded him my first

How did you feel during your first race and your first win? My first race was definitely a handful. I flipped the first lap and just kind of followed around in the back but it was still a pretty awesome adrenaline rush. The feeling when you get your first win is just unreal. I remember it just didn’t seem real. It is always something that I had dreamed of, but when it happens, it just seems like the world stops.

Did you have any background in racing previously? I am the first person in my family to race. We had zero background in racing and I think that was definitely an extra hurdle that we had to face before we started to figure things out.

Where are you currently racing and what is your competitive edge? I currently race in the Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series in the Pro Lite Class, which is extremely competitive. It is agreeably the most competitive class in the series. The class is filled with talent between the class veterans and the new kids on the block. It is definitely a class that keeps you on your toes. I would say that my competitive edge is the people who support me. I have so many great companies that support me and without their products I would not have near the amount of success that I have had throughout the years. My team is also a huge part of that edge and is filled with all kinds of knowledge. I cannot thank everyone on the team enough for all of their hard work and dedication to my team. I have the easy part my team members are the ones in the background making things happen.

What are your goals for your LOORRS career and what class is next for you? A few goals that I have are to win as many races that I can but to also win a Pro Lite Championship. A long-term goal that I have is to win a Pro 4 Championship. The Pro 4 drivers are the top dogs and I want to prove that I have what it takes to be one of those top dogs. The next class for me is Pro 2. I hope to make the jump in the next few years if everything keeps happening like it has been. Outside of racing what are your hobbies? Outside of racing I spend a lot of time riding my mountain bike. I also enjoy extreme skiing, wake surfing, snowmobiling and off roading with all of my buddies. Would you say that you are an adrenaline junky? I would say that I am an adrenaline junky. I love the adrenaline of racing and I think that’s’ what keeps me going. Most people think I am crazy for all of the stuff that I do but when you do it once, that adrenaline rush keeps me going back for more.

What’s your daily driver? My daily driver is a 2015 Ford Transit van - it’s a van that’s 10-feet tall. I love my van because it is four-wheel drive and I have it fully equipped to meet all my adventure needs. I can keep all my mountain bikes inside, it has a bed for camping, and I can still fit all of my buddies and their gear with no problems. Any advice for kids trying to get into racing? For kids trying to get into racing my best advice is to dream big and work hard to make those dreams reality. Racing is a tough sport but if you put your head down and focus anything is possible. My other big advice would be to be to surround yourself with the right people in the industry and start small and slowly to work your way through the ranks. Talk about your F100 and what you wanted done to it? I bought my 1967 F100 to be my first car. I planned to just keep it simple and just slowly upgrade it. When I first bought the truck, the motor that was in it, was having some issues so I pulled it out and started to rebuild it myself after school. My dad told me that he wanted to cage the truck to make sure I was safe. Then from there it just escalated. Now it is a full blown luxury prerunner with 30” of travel. 104

Why did you want to build the F100? What requests did you have when you started it? What are your favorite mods? What did you think of the outcome? I wanted to build an F100 because since I was little. I thought they were super awesome trucks. I stumbled upon one in town and was able to grab it for a great deal and that’s where it all started. When I first got it my only requests that I had was that it had some off-road wheels and tires. Once I realized that we were going to be building a serious prerunner, I requested that it keep some of its old features like the dash is still original just with some modern electronics.

I would have to say some of my favorite modifications would have to be the big 4.5 King Shocks along with the 17” TIS Wheels and 37” General Tires. I think the outcome was way more than I could have ever dreamed of. It turned out looking amazing with so many great details thanks to Weitzel Motorsports. The best part is that it works even better than it looks. It is truly amazing what this piece of art can do on the dirt and it’s been proven How did the sponsorship with TS come about? I ran into one of the ATD marketing guys at a chapel service in the morning at the races. We connected and then he introduced me to Myles Kovacs and now TIS Wheels is a huge part of my program and I couldn’t be happier to have them on board. Any shoutouts? #94 PROLITE THE #94 TRUCK is arguably one of the fastest Pro Lites in the series. The chassis was built by Kincaid motorsports. Jimmy Davidson, crew chief of the #94 Pro Lite, took the chassis and finished the build in the Christopher Polvoorde race shop. The entire chassis is coated in STEEL-IT to protect it from the abuse that happens out on the track. The power plant of the truck is a Lucas Oil Offroad spec LS3 with about 500hp. Getting all that power to the ground is the General Tire Grabber X3. Connecting the tires to the drivetrain is the stylish,but durable, TIS Wheels 540B’s. To keep the truck riding smooth it is equipped with King shocks coilover and bypass in each corner of the truck, Magnaflow exhaust to make it sound and perform good, Optima batteries powering the truck and allowing it to start with ease. Keeping Christopher safe is the Simpson Race Products seat belts.

1967 F100 CHRISTOPHER’S 1967 F100 was built by Weitzel Motorsports and is a one-of-a-kind luxury prerunner. It started off as Christopher’s daily driver, but quickly escalated to a full out build. Christopher originally was doing all the work himself, but took it to the next level the minute professionals got involved to help finish it. Jimmy Weitzel is a well known builder in the prerunner business, but most of his trucks are built on a different platform. This made for the F100 to be a one-off build with lots of custom work to be done. Over the next year, Jimmy would take Christopher’s “daily driver” to a full blown Baja-ready machine. A luxury prerunner is essentially a race truck, but it has all the features of a modern-day luxury car. The truck has iPads integrated into the dash, air conditioning, and

even heated seats. To prove that this truck just wasn’t a show truck -which many might think based on the workmanship of the build Christopher and his team took it straight to the Norra 1000. This is a rally-type race that races down the Baja peninsula over a period of five days, covering more than 1,369 miles. With little to no test time on the truck, the team made it to the finish line with no major problems and on top of that finished second in class! This

accomplishment proved that this F100 is a nextlevel machine that can take on anything that is thrown at it. With more than 30” of travel in the rear and 24” in the front, it makes for a smooth ride. Underneath the hood it has an LS3 pushing out more than 525hp. To keep it rolling it has 37” General Grabber X3 with TIS Wheels 540B’s. Baja is known for its abuse on equipment therefore all the suspension parts are coated with STEEL-IT to protect the key components.

B

uilding a truck of this caliber, showcasing it at SEMA and getting it featured in a magazine takes skill, hard work and vision to make it all happen. So how did Jeff Cleer of Voodoo Customs get to this point? Well, he’s had a long history of building vehicles as a hobby. While wrenching over the years, he developed relationships with companies and made a few friends in the scene. In 2014, Jeff got his big break as a customizer when one of his industry friends needed help building a project for SEMA. Since he had plenty of experience turning visions into reality, Jeff was up for the challenge. Finishing the truck and debuting it at the show completely validated his skills and secured his name in the industry. After seeing what he was able to produce, others took notice and have since requested his services.

This led him to this 2016 Silverado 2500, which was his first Duramax diesel-equipped ¾-ton truck to customize. Though it was new territory for Jeff, he knew he could start this project off with a 12” lift from Cognito Motorsports with Fox 2.0 reservoir shocks. Though the wheel gaps were increased from the lift, they were easily filled with 24x12 Obnoxious wheels from Cali Offroad, which are wrapped in 37” tall Falken rubber. Continuing the mean look, this Silverado was equipped with Bushwacker fender flares and BodyGuard Truck Accessories bumpers. The exterior was then accented with AMI Accessories shackles with Infinite Rule Security locking pins to keep them in place. The headlights were then upgraded with Diode Dynamics Demon Eyes and a host of LED lighting from C4 Offroad Products was added as well.

While on a family vacation at Myrtle Beach, Jeffs’ kids picked up some Tiki-style souvenirs, which gave him inspiration for the theme of this truck. In order to implement some Tiki touches, a stained ash wood RetroLiner by Bedwood & Parts was added in the rear. The bed was then topped off with custom bamboo sides and other Tikistyling mods mounted to the Undercover Elite LX tonneau cover. On the inside, the seats were recovered in leather from Roadwire, which has “TIKIMAX” embroidered on them.

Not only does this truck look the part, it also has some performance mods to back it all up. The ECU was tuned by PPEI and is controlled by an Edge unit. Incoming air is funneled in with an HSP intake system while a Flo~Pro 5” race exhaust releases spent gasses. Fuel delivery is now handled by a Fass Titanium pump and sump. With all the pieces of the puzzle together, the TikiMax made it to the show and wowed all. Now that it is complete, Jeff cruises this truck on the daily while promoting his business. With continued success, Jeff has solidified himself in the custom world and continues to impress with each project that he completes. AN INFECTIOUS 2016 FORD SUPER DUTY F-250

W

hen someone gets addicted to customizing a vehicle, there’s a wellknown phrase we use in the scene. Any time we notice a person that keeps going deeper with their ride, we say that they “got bit by the bug.” Gary Brewer has been into custom Lowriders since his youth, but his wife, Molly, was not much of a fan. Like any good partner, she supported Gary’s dreams, yet encouraged him to expand his likings beyond Lowriders. But in doing so, Molly also got bit by the customizing bug!

The married duo took a stock 2016 Ford F-250 and gave it an 8” lift to fit a set of 38” tall tires. Feeling good about how the truck looked, the couple drove it to the Daytona Truck Meet, but felt out of their league after being surrounded by heavily customized rigs. They knew they needed to step up their modifying game if they wanted to garner the same stares the other crazy customs received at the meet. This resulted in a series of trying out new suspension lifts to fit larger wheels and tires, but nothing seemed to create the winning combination.

Fortunately, the Brewers came across Rob Pigue of Plan B Fabrication, who was capable of fabricating a suspension system that clears a set of 40s. Rob knew the best way to get this truck looking like a serious contender was with a custom 4-link suspension combined with FOA coilovers. Since most lifts of this kind are usually plain, the Brewers wanted to incorporate some unique styling, deciding on a cool spider web design. Shortly after, Rob had JFab cut all the components to create the lift. Then, most of the components were powder coated while a few pieces were made out of polished out stainless steel. Afterwards, a set of 24x14 Vortex wheels from American Force were ordered. Once they arrived, the Brewers wanted to add some color to the wheels, and Rob made overlays for the centers to be powder coated to match the suspension.

Adding some style to the rest of the truck is a set of bumpers created by JFab, while the hood was replaced with Cervini’s cowl version. Continuing the web theme, a grille from Overkill Fab was used. On the inside, a few trim pieces were painted to match the exterior, and High Line Auto covered the seats in custom leather upholstery. Performance was improved with a tune by PELA Motorsports and an SCT controller, which is topped off with a K&N intake and Flo~Pro exhaust. This truck has made it to many large events, including Lone Star Throwdown and SEMA. You would think this would be enough for the Brewers, but they are hooked and continue to make improvements on the truck. In fact, the truck is scheduled to return to this year’s SEMA with some new surprises in store. Make sure to be on the lookout for this one! Overseeing the entire build, Chris worked with several people along the way to get the Dually perfect for showcasing Road Armor’s latest offerings. “The biggest part of the build was to complete the development of an entirely new series/line of iDENTITY bumpers,” he adds. “Andon Sawyer created a rough sketch of the ideas that we collaborated on, and I moved forward from there with the bumper designs. It was a team effort to get all the supporting sponsors on board with our idea and really take it to the next level.” To get all the pieces of the customizing puzzle complete – from the right suspension, lighting, wheels tires and more –in a short time frame required efficient support from all the right people. And since the F-450s didn’t have much support in terms of aftermarket accessories, many of the mods had to be custom-made in order to complete the build according to the initial rendering. Of course, this posed a small challenge given the tight deadline, but with support, long hours and dedication, it was all completed on time!

Known as the iDENTITY Super Duty, the truck’s colors were chosen on the basis that it would create a solid “Bold and Clean” image that the team wanted for the overall design of the truck. They wanted a show stopper, and they aimed for complementary modifications that were aggressive, but provided a clean and practical look. “A few minor changes to the paint scheme on the bumpers were the only deviations from the original renderings. These updates were done to help the truck to really accentuate the ‘modularity’ of the new bumpers,” Chris notes. Besides the new Road Armor iDENTITY bumpers, other highlights include the Interco tires, Fabtech suspension, Quake LEDs, RK Sport vented hood and Wrap Garage exterior wrap, with the suspension being the very first 6” lift for the new F-450. “The response was overwhelming,” Chris explains. “We unveiled the truck at Lifted Truck Nationals in Branson, MO, and took home ‘Best in Show Ford.’ It was definitely a crowd favorite.” The entire team at Road Armor couldn’t be happier with the finished look and are proud to show off their new iDENTITY bumpers every chance they get! “We set out to make a statement with this truck as the front runner and it did exactly what we hoped it would – turn people’s heads with its bold looks and features.” Now it’s going to be put to work towing Road Armor show Jeeps and trucks to events across the country. 134

he Daytona Truck Meet has grown to be the country’s largest truck meet and all the partying went down the weekend of June 1-3 with thousands of trucks from across the country flocking to the Daytona International Speedway to strut their stuff.
