“Sound technology is increasingly important in our society, and it is present in almost every aspect of our lives."
Engineering Acoustics is an exciting research area covering a wide range of topics related to sound, hearing, and vibration.
Acoustic engineering helps society by creating healthy acoustic environments and reducing harmful environmental noise. It enables to assist the hearing impaired, to design innovative architectural spaces, as well as to improve the sound quality delivered by loudspeakers and communication devices. Also, acoustic signals and audio processing are essential in the age of big data and artificial intelligence.
Sound technology is increasingly important in our society, and it is present in almost every aspect of our lives.

The Engineering Acoustics MSc programme attracts students from all over the world seeking to expand their knowledge of acoustics and become experts in the field.
This means that you will be part of an international study environment with focus on exciting interdisciplinary studies of acoustics.
The profile of our students is highly attractive for employment in Denmark and abroad, as the programme covers a wide area of subjects, with up-to-date material, world-class facilities and maintaining strong links to research, innovation and industry.
Denmark is a world-leader in sound technology with a longstanding reputation in this field. There is a unique industrial network, including some of the largest international companies in hearing-aid technology, headphones, headsets, loudspeaker and audio production, microphones, sensors, consulting firms, environment, medical technology, healthcare, communications, virtual audio, gaming, etc.
Currently there are more than 100 companies registered in the Danish sound branch that account for more than 28,000 jobs in the sound sector.
The profile of our MSc Eng students is highly valued by employers in Denmark and internationally.
Our graduates have found jobs with:
Bang & Olufsen
Dynaudio
Jabra
Lloyd's Register ODS
G.R.A.S.
Brüel & Kjær

All courses are given in English on an advanced scientific and technical level.
The teaching is founded on world-leading research in acoustics, hearing, vibration and sound technology.
The student has a high degree of freedom to design her/ his own individual academic profile.

Richard McWalter
Postdoc, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT (USA)
"The Engineering Acoustics programme gave me a deep and holistic understanding of acoustics. The education combining electroacoustics, sound fields in rooms, and human perception has been invaluable to my research in future audio technologies at Bang & Olufsen."

“The MSc in Engineering Acoustics is a great education that gives a solid background in acoustics and hearing science, opening up for exciting career paths. My work at Oticon Medical is a great opportunity for me to better understand how people perceive sounds and how we can best help patients with a hearing loss.”
"The Engineering Acoustics MSc Eng programme at DTU combines courses in acoustics and sound perception, which is quite unique. This wonderful programme offered me a strong foundation to pursue a career in academia."

Théo Auclair Apple Inc. (USA)
"DTU's Engineering Acoustic MSc programme is well-known internationally, as it covers a wide area of topics in acoustics in great depth. The MSc was a fantastic stepping stone towards an international career in audio and acoustic engineering. I currently work on the development of cutting edge audio technologies in the USA."
Considering the multidisciplinary nature of acoustics, candidates for the programme have diverse backgrounds, i.e. Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Physics, Architecture, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Audiology, Telecommunications or Audio Engineering.
It is a pre-requisite for admission to have a BSc degree or equivalent in natural science or technology. A sufficient background in math and physics is required for admission.
