DTU Startup Day is more than an event; it’s a testament to our vibrant innovation ecosystem. Here, we proudly present a diverse cohort of startups—each one having an impact. From AI solutions to sustainable foods of the future, these startups represent our culture of entrepreneurship and innovation that defines our community.

But DTU Startup Day is not just for us—it’s an invitation to the world. We open our doors to investors, industry leaders, and curious minds from near and far. Together, we explore what innovation ecosystems rooted in universities can achieve. We discuss, debate, and dream of translating bold ideas into sustainable business models that contribute to planetary health. DTU’S INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM

DTU has one of the most well-developed ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship among technical universities in Europe. DTU Startup Day is organized by the partners in DTU’s innovations ecosystem - together for tomorrow’s technology-based innovation.

DTU

Innovation is in DTU’s core mission. DTU helps students and employees translate inventions and discoveries into enterprising businesses and engage in innovative collaborations with society. Driven by a will to develop new, impactful ideas that can help solve the world’s challenges. DTU has one of the most well-developed ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship among European technical universities. Several enablers help the well-developed innovation ecosystem reach a high level of success.

DTU SKYLAB

An innovation hub for students, researchers, and external collaborators. DTU Skylab provides various resources and facilities to foster innovation among researchers and students across DTU in collaboration with companies, organizations, and other universities.

DTU Entrepreneurship

A center where research and education in entrepreneurship are conducted. The center, in close collaboration with companies and the business community, develops practiceoriented education programme and courses in entrepreneurship.

DTU Science Park

DTU Science Park is one of Europe’s leading deep tech communities with more than 300 small and established companies. We offer partnerships and investor networks that bring you closer to deep tech startups working with hardware, climate tech, med tech and other deep tech solutions. Every year, we run several growth programmes, such as Danish Tech Challenge, GreenUP Accelerator, MedTech Growth, and Defence Tech Denmark.

PSV

A venture house that was spun out DTU and have helped +450 early stage startups get off the ground. Today, the venture house counts the DTU affiliated company PSV Foundry as well as the two independent venture funds PSV Tech, investing in software enabled technology and PSV Hafnium, investing in deep tech and science-based companies.

Panel Discussion Let’s Rise for Europe – What does it take? at Mainstage, Auditorium

The prestigious Rise Europe-network guests Denmark and DTU Startup Day. They represent 21 leading tech innovation hubs at universities across Europe and collectively see massive innovation potential in their region. They also see the roadblocks complicating the road to market for technological breakthroughs and ultimately for building tech champions in Europe. To ensure Europe becomes a world leading tech region with more tech companies, scaleups and tech solutions on the market, RISE-advocate certain changes. In this panel, we have invited Rise Europe together with a politician, a fund and a startup founder to share their visons and nuance how Europe becomes more autonomous, resilient and less depended on US and China, when it comes to technology and innovation.

The panel will be the result of a side event at DTU Startup Day, where specially invited experts participate in roundtable discussions on European tech policy.

Q&A WITH THE STARTUPS

CEO/Founder: Bo Svarrer Hansen

Q: What is your mission?

A: With myopia rates rising, our mission is to give people with strong prescriptions access to thin, comfortable spectacle lenses—eliminating the bulky “coke bottle” look and allowing more freedom in frame choice.

Q: What problem are you solving, and how?

A: Traditional high-diopter lenses are thick and limit frame options. We use meta-optics—nanotechnology that embeds lens power into the coating—enabling lenses under 2 mm thick. While the tech has many applications, we’re focusing on eyewear to meet a real, everyday need.

Q: What challenges have you faced?

A: The main challenges have been technical, as we’re still in development. Support from DTU, Innovation Fund Denmark, and the EU has helped us push forward. In 2024, a major investment from a German VC boosted our efforts. Now, the MedTech Growth program is guiding us through regulatory hurdles as we prepare for a 2026 market launch.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve, and how do you do it?

A: Phishing is the world’s biggest cyber threat—impersonating trusted brands to steal data and money. We built SKJOLDET, an AIpowered browser extension that scans websites in real time and alerts users to fraud instantly. It protects against phishing, smishing, fake competitions, and scam webshops—while generating live fraud intelligence to block threats, automate takedowns, and support authorities. With 13,000 users and over 25,000 alerts, we’re already covering 85% of fraud in Denmark—and growing fast.

Q: What is your mission?

A: To make the digital world safer for everyone—by proactively stopping cybercrime and protecting both individuals and businesses, globally.

Q: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

A: Working with AI meant data privacy had to come first. That’s why we never store personal data—we revisit flagged sites anonymously to improve our model safely and ethically.

Q: Have you received support?

A: Yes, we’ve been part of the DTU Skylab Incubator, receiving coaching and funding. We’ve also secured an EU-backed grant through NCC-DK to keep building tools that fight cybercrime.

Founder: Janin Brandt

Q: What problem are you trying to solve, and how do you do it?

A: Up to 80% of a building’s embodied carbon comes from its concrete structure. Yet structural concrete is rarely reused due to safety concerns and a lack of platforms to connect donor and receiver buildings. We aim to change that by enabling safe, scalable reuse of structural elements.

Q: What is your mission?

A: circrete’s mission is to drive structural reuse through a matchmaking platform that links deconstruction sites with new builds. We’re also building a knowledge hub and developing digital product passports to trace materials across the value chain. Our goal is to make circularity the industry standard.

Q: What challenges have you faced?

A: We started without a business background, but support from DTU Skylab and fellow startups helped us grow. Building a startup team from a student project has been a learning curve—defining roles, managing internal communication, and balancing part-time work. But it has shaped a strong, supportive working culture.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve, and how do you do it?

A: Quantum and supercomputers could break existing encryption, threatening sensitive data across society. Alea Quantum Technologies addresses this risk by producing the world’s fastest Quantum Random Number Generators, enabling secure encryption for governments, businesses, and researchers.

Q: What is your mission?

A: Our mission is to secure the digital backbone of society by keeping sensitive data safe and trustworthy.

Q: What challenges have you faced?

A: Transitioning from research to market is complex. We’ve built strong product and hardware teams, formed an experienced commercial and sales team to drive adoption, and fostered a diverse, empathetic work culture. Support from Skylab programs helped us spin out and grow the company.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve, and how do you do it?

A: At Acodyne, we saw a global logistics system struggling to reach remote areas—relying on helicopters, burning fuel, and racking up costs. With drone freight regulations evolving, we saw a chance to change that. Acodyne’s high-speed, heavy-lift drones and automation cut emissions and costs, delivering vital goods exactly where they’re needed, fast.

Q: What is your mission?

A: We’re here to reimagine freight. Our mission is to build a greener, smarter alternative to traditional logistics—driving down carbon emissions, slashing costs, and strengthening supply chains worldwide.

Q: What challenges have you encountered, and how have you overcome them? Have you received specific help anywhere?

A: Building something this bold wasn’t easy. We’ve solved complex engineering challenges in-house, but building a company takes more than tech. Through DTU Science Park’s GreenUp Accelerator we’ve gained invaluable guidance from legal, financial, and business experts—helping us grow faster and stronger.
