PARTNERSHIP RECAP 2022

Washington, D.C., was most certainly the place to be this past summer for our first-ever DTLR Summer Block Party! Alongside our good friends at the U.S. Army, we threw a day-long event that covered all our essential pillars — entertainment, community, fitness and lifestyle.

As soon as the gates opened, hundreds of excited D.C. natives poured into the venue site located right in Kenilworth Terrace in the Northeast. People made their way through our various stations, which included free DTLR giveaways, a gaming center, a Community Outreach area with toiletry giveaways and helpful resources, and so much more.

One of the main attractions was the U.S. Army’s area, which had it all, including an interactive fitness area, multiple information tables to educate our attendees on everything Army-related, and an overall presence that could be felt by everyone. From talking with some of our guests, learning more about what the Army has to offer and how they can be involved was a highlight of the day.

Throughout the day, the main stage area was full of amazing performances. With DJ Cat Daddy on the 1s and 2s, the day was hosted by DC’s finest, Angie Ange, as well as DTLR Radio personalities Tiara LaNiece, Fadam Got Da Juice, Kyle On The Mic and CDK On the Mic. DTLR Radio was also broadcasting live all day long. We had performances from the likes of TOB Band, WanMor, OMB Peezy, YungManny, Money Jake, Noochie, WillThaRapper, Young Jose, Kelow Latesha, North Ave Jax and many others.

One of the final highlights of the day was our hooping and training session with Dallas Mavericks assistant coach God Shammgod. The hoops coach star had the kids at the Block Party beyond excited as they did basketball drills, learned more about basketball and even got some free shoes, courtesy of Puma. Shammgod was assisted by Washington Wizards host Britt Waters. Overall, it was an incredible day and a beautiful start to our Block Party experience.

MORGAN STATE

We came, we saw, we conquered — our Morgan State University stop of the Welcome Back Tour was a major success. With our partners at Nike, Jordan and the U.S. Army, we had the Morgan State student body partying all afternoon and evening as they embraced the new school year. Set up right outside of the Student Center was our Fresh Fit station where hundreds of Morgan State students who RSVPed in advance were able to get some brand-new gear, courtesy of Nike. We had a gaming center, a 360 photo booth, food trucks and so much more for the students to engage with.

With DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice and Kyle On The Mic handling hosting duties, the main stage was jumping well before our first artist came on to perform. The student body flooded the field and waited anxiously for our many performers, which included the likes of Jacquees, Dusty Locane, Rah Swish, DJ Quicksilva, Money Jake, Kyle Gee and so many others. We featured emerging artists as part of the Barz on the Yard contest, we had dance offs from the likes of TSU Terry and some kids from the crowd, and we gave away DTLR gift cards. We had a ball! The energy was tremendous from the moment we opened the gates, until the last music note hit. It’s safe to say we welcomed Morgan State back to the school year in a major way.

BOWIE STATE

That’s a wrap for our 2022 HBCU Welcome Back Tour, and Bowie State University sent us off with a bang. Once again supported by our partners at Nike and Jordan, the Bulldogs were in full force from start to finish getting hyped for the school year that’s officially underway. Set up right outside the Student Center was our Fresh Fit station where hundreds of Bowie State students who RSVPed in advance were able to get some slick new gear, courtesy of Nike. We had a gaming center, a 360 photo booth, activations hosted by our friends at the U.S. Army, Rita’s Italian Ice keeping us cool, and so much more for the student body.

With DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice, CDK On The Mic and Jaycee handling hosting duties, the main stage was jumping well before the first act. The student body flooded the field and waited anxiously for our many performers, which included our headliner Jacquees, as well as Dusty Locane, Rah Swish, Goya Menor, Money Jake, Kyle Gee, Tyahna Maray and so many others. We featured emerging artists as part of Barz on the Yard contest, we had dance offs from the likes of TSU Terry, and we gave away DTLR gift cards – we did it all.

Another major moment of the evening was a surprise special guest performance from none other than Saucy Santana. Fadam revealed to the excited crowd that a special guest was on the way, but when Saucy finally hit the stage, Bowie was set ablaze. Giving us a shut-down performance, the Material Girl’s presence made the entire show that much more exciting.
