BLOODY SUNDAY 2022

SELMA MARCH

57 TH ANNIVERSARY selma In partnership with the NAACP, Dare To Live Right sponsored a trip for students from Atlanta to the Edmund Pettus Bridge for the Annual March Across Key Landmark of the civil rights movement. On Sunday, March 6, we sponsored 150 students from Tri-Cities High School and West Lake High School in East Point, GA, to travel to Selma, AL, in partnership with the NAACP. Students marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, a National Historic Landmark, and the site of a key march for voting rights during the civil rights movement. Through this moving educational experience, students of all ethnic backgrounds were inspired to respect and appreciate the power of their vote. In our third year of partnering with this event and as a continuation of our nationwide “Mission 1865” campaign, we look forward to expanding this event as an annual program in the region. And next year, we are planning to take even more high school students!

DTLR SUMMER ‘22 PHOTO SHOOT

SUMMER LIFESTYLE STORY 5 PALMS HOUSE AND COTTAGE miami The DTLR Summer ’22 Photo Shoot took place in picturesque Miami, Florida. The private photo shoot location truly spoke to the styles and colors that will be found in our stores for the upcoming summer season. Photos/video by the pool and around the 5 Palms House and Cottage provided the perfect background to tell the “Summer Lifestyle Story.” By relocating to the Wynwood Art District, the new product was then aligned with patterns and “moments’’ that further brought the items to life. The styles from Psycho Bunny, NIKE, BKYS, and other vendors truly set the tone for everyone “coming back outside.” The photo shoot also featured models of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities to further identify with the DTLR customer. Artist OTB Fastlane, of the 300 Label, “crashed” the set and represented in Sergio Tacchini, which completely fit the Miami vibe. The other models complemented his look by bringing energy and providing fierce content. The images from the photo shoot will further prove that DTLR is not only a brand -- it’s a lifestyle.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

DETROIT FOOD GIVEAWAY

ALYCIA “THE BOMB” BAUMGARDNER detroit As part of our celebration of Women’s History Month, we partnered with local boxer Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner of Detroit, Michigan to donate fresh produce to families in need. On Saturday, March 12, Dare To Live Right distributed pre-packed boxes of fresh produce and allowed families in need to pack their own nonperishable food items. This event is always well received by the community, and we will continue to fill voids, where we can, as it relates to neighborhoods considered food deserts near our stores.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

BALLOU HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN’S DAY EVENT district of columbia It is that time of the year again when we try to give our young ladies at Ballou High School (Washington, DC) an intentional experience to celebrate their womanhood, possibilities, and beauty within our community. Through a pandemic and racial and political crisis, our plan was to help the school staff roll out the red carpet of love to the young ladies who signed up to participate. The theme this year was Dare to Be: Unleash the Possibilities.

“We’re trying to really ensure that we are giving our young ladies an intentional experience to celebrate their womanhood, possibilities, and beauty -- yet creating lifelong memories and connections.” – Mrs. Melissa Jackson, M.Ed., M.L.S, Library Media Specialist, Ballou Senior High School

This day was filled with empowering and impactful moments for our young ladies. We were able to show the young ladies that we see them, and that their well-being matters, through a day of music with DJ Tiara LaNiece, sip n’ painting, and laughter. Students showcased beautiful paintings of “Dare to Dream” empowerment as they heard words of aspiration echoed by Mrs. Sherrell Duncan, the guest speaker, who inspired them to take the limits off the possibilities. Ballou is located in Southeast D.C. in a community that is plagued with various struggles. Part of the Dare To Live Right mission is Education and Community, which makes this annual partnership that much more special as we can tangibly show the youth that we can Dare To Be, Better and that we are truly Better Together!

INTERNATIONAL NIKE AIR MAX DAY

“AIR MAX NIGHT” URBAN FETES virginia || chicago || detroit || atlanta On March 26, the entire shoe world celebrated the infamous Nike Air Max Day. Being a leading force in this space, you already know DTLR turned up the festivities. Across the country, we hosted “Air Max Night” – a party series celebrating the iconic shoe and the culture it created. Along with our friends at Urban Fetes, we had the music bumping, the good energy flowing and an overall celebration of culture. We shut things down on the East Coast in Virginia, the Midwest in Chicago and Detroit, and down south in the ATL. Nike enthusiasts of all sorts packed in the venues, and it’s safe to say we took Air Max Day to the max. DTLR DJs & hosts raffled various DTLR and Nike gift cards in each city as well. In Detroit, we had DJ Casper and DJ Freak Show, along with Kenny Valentino hosting. In Atlanta, 4Ize hosted the show while DJ Peazy and B Easy handled the 1s and 2s. The Chi featured Happy as the host with DJ Mile High and DTLR’s own DJ Commando on deck. Then in Virginia, we had Shannon Waldron on the mic with Gee Hicks and DJ Vaughn holding down the tunes. All in all, Air Max Day (and night) was a humongous success and DTLR celebrated it to the fullest.

STRONGER TOGETHER

ENGLEWOOD POP - UP COAT & SHOE GIVEAWAY chicago As part of the Community Pillar of our mission, we seek to engage and assist small non-profit organizations to increase the visibility of their work in our neighborhoods. Branding Englewood is a Chicago-based organization that impacts the community of Englewood through service and youth engagement. We partnered with Branding Englewood by donating coats, boots, and community resources to their community event. We also provided volunteers to help with their monthly soup kitchen to feed less fortunate community members of Englewood. The event was a total success, as we distributed over 250 coats and served hot soup for four hours. We are looking forward to a continued partnership with Branding Englewood, and organizations doing great work in our community.

STRONGER TOGETHER

ANTI - BULLY TOUR DJ ANNIE RED & JAHKIL JACKSON chicago As part of the Dare To Live Right Education mission, we were proud to be a part of a spring Anti-Bullying Tour led by two amazing youth activists. According to stopbullying.gov, 20% of students ages 12 to 18 in the U.S. reported being bullied at some point. 56% of them stated that the people who bullied them had the ability to influence other students’ perception of them. 40% said the bully was stronger or larger than them, and 50% said they had more social influence. And then we have Cyberbullying. Among the students ages 12 to 18 who reported being bullied at school during the school year, 15% stated they were bullied online or by text. With those statistics, in an intimate setting, we hosted 40 students at a Chicago Boys and Girls club who participated in the anti-bullying workshop and blessing bag stuffing service project. Students had an engaging session, complete with motivational speaking, videos, and a Q&A session. They left with practical confidence-building exercises and tactics for identifying bullying, dealing with bullying, and helping someone being bullied. Our hosts were New York native and anti-bullying activist, 13-year-old DJ Annie Red, and Chicago native and social entrepreneur, 14-year-old Jahkil Jackson, who brought excitement mixed with an urban flair to Chicago’s middle school students. This dynamic duo has become two of the most sought after young change-makers in the country, tackling tough issues such as bullying, homelessness, and entrepreneurship, all while balancing being full-time student-athletes. The center was extremely grateful and welcomed us back anytime we wanted to visit. We are excited to expand our Dare To Live Right Mission.

LAUNCH DAY

AJ1 REBELLIONAIRE MONUMENT STREET baltimore On Saturday, March 19th, the Air Jordan One High OG ‘Rebellionaire’ was released in DTLR stores. With 2,993 pairs available, we sold out over the course of the weekend. The following Monday, 400 additional pairs arrived in stores and sold out as well.

“The release for the AJ1 Rebellionaire was smooth and exciting. With so many pairs, mostly all of my customers were able to purchase the size they were looking for. Despite delivery delays, we were able to do our raffle and call customers back the same day. We saw a line prior to opening but the customers were waiting patiently. Each customer came in with their raffle tickets, purchased the shoe and left. We also had a lot of customers without tickets come to purchase. It was nice to see so many smiling faces as customers were able to purchase their product. We are looking forward to bringing more excitement to this location. Thank you for the opportunity.” - Brittany Johnson – Store 76 Monument Street, Baltimore, MD
