THE DSH STORY

It all began with a question.

DSH hopper systems are the invention of Trevor Schwass, who hails from the sunny Hawkes Bay region on the east coast of New Zealand Trevor was working as a mechanical site engineer at Ravensdown fertiliser plant in Napier when he first developed the DSH System The site was suffering from huge amounts of dust that was being created during loading, dust that engulfed the yard and made machinery and workers almost invisible in the murk With worker health and air pollution at the forefront of his mind, Trevor used his expertise to set about solving the dust problem that has plagued the bulk handling industry for years

In 2004, after several years of designing, tinkering and fine-tuning, our award winning dust suppression hopper was born Trevor managed to create a simple, autonomous systems that required minimal utilities, maintenance or expertise to install, and the "magic bucket" has been clearing the air ever since.

After that first installation in New Zealand, thousands of DSH systems have since been installed across the globe With our hand picked and trusted worldwide distribution network, our systems have been fitted everywhere from ports in Japan to quarries in France, and everywhere in between

With every hopper installed, DSH contributes both to better worker health as well as environmental protection, all whilst ensuring a clean and efficient loading method. By limiting dust generation, a DSH hopper minimises the amount of fugitive particles escaping into the air, preventing the pollution of our precious oceans, waterways and other areas, and minimising health hazards for both humans and animals associated with the inhalation of dust.

As the hopper fills, the product level rises, and the springs extend, progressively opening the flow control gap and balancing the product flowing in and out of the hopper. DSH APPLICATIONS

DSH systems require no services (electricity, pneumatics, or hydraulics) to function and most cases, are able to be easily integrated into existing loading facilities with minimal downtime to schedules Where site specific engineering is required, we will work alongside you to develop a unique solution to ensure the system is installed correctly and performs to your expectations

Port Loading

The DSH can be used for sea or inland port loading of open bulk carrier ships and barges

Due to the condensed column stream produced, the product can also fall with minimal dust even when exposed to sea breezes By eliminating fugitive dust, we help protect our valuable oceans and waterways from foreign matter

Rail Loading

The DSH can be used for open, closed and center slotted rail car loading

Minimising dust helps keep lines and yards clear, whilst also keeping the exterior of cars cleaner With a high mounting point and no need for telescopic equipment/ loading railcars evenly is seamless and uncomplicated

Vehicle Loading

The DSH can be used for open and closed truck and trailer loading. With reduced dust comes cleaner vehicles and yards, which also prevents dust movement outside when the trucks leave the yard.

Container Loading

The DSH can be used for container, bag or drum filling. By minimising air and compacting the product, you maximise capacity when filling, and remove the need for time spent settling the product.

Bulk Store and Open Stack Loading

The DSH can be used for warehouse store and open stacking/stockpile loading. With less fugitive dust floating around, both air quality and visibility are improved, and warehouses or yards are kept free of dust or debris

DSH Systems can be installed to support the following loading types: Ship Loading, Belt, Screw and Aeration Conveyors, Hopper and Silos.

DSH can be used with the following feed controls: Clam Shell Gates, Slide Gates, Rotary Valves.

STANDARD HOPPERS

Our team will work with you to determine the best hopper system for your requirements, based on the product type, bulk density and flow rate required.

TARDIS HOPPERS

Our DSH TARDIS hopper is a large, flanged mounted enclosed system specifically designed for ship loading or other outdoor applications This design protects products from the elements and makes for easier installation, maneuverability and loading.

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS AND PARTS

Our systems are able to fully customized to meet your needs Whether the hopper is required to fit into a tight or unusual shaped space, there are access restrictions, or your products are corrosive or fine and extremely dusty, we have a solution - and if we don’t, we will find one!

VARIOUS SIZES

We offer DSH Systems in many sizes, from a Mini up to a 9, each with various capacities ranging from 50 tph up to more than 2000 tph. Each model is specifically rated in processing tonnes per depending on the product type, bulk density and flowrate

We offer additional hopper components and parts as required. Optional additions include dust filter covers, ceramic linings and static electricity earth straps We can also supply spare parts for all hoppers and components

DSH CONSTRUCTION

DSH hoppers can be constructed from various materials Depending on your product type, bulk density and desired flow rates, our team will determine the appropriate construction material and size, as well as any specialized recommendations that may be required

Polyethylene rotational moulded hoppers cover most general applications and can be used with some corrosive products Polyethylene is resistant to fading and chipping, and this method of production means our poly hoppers are formed in one piece and the finished product is extremely strong, long lasting, and durable.

CORTEN STEEL

Corten Steel is long-lasting and can be used with abrasive or warm products It has high durability, is relatively light weight, has corrosive resistance and is very strong Our hoppers are powder coated to increase durability in harsh environments and to reduce chipping, fading, scratching and wearing Corten Steel can also be electro galvanized for added protection against corrosive products.

POLYETHYLENE HARDOX STEEL

Hardox Steel is long-lasting and can be used with abrasive or warm products It has high durability, is relatively light weight, has corrosive resistance and is very strong. Our hoppers are powder coated to increase durability in harsh environments and to reduce chipping, fading, scratching and wearing Hardox Steel can also be electro galvanized for added protection against corrosive products

STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless Steel has high resistance to corrosion. We offer both 304 and 316 Stainless Steel Hoppers 304 Stainless Steel is suitable for warm or abrasive products, where as 316 Stainless Steel is suitable for food grade situations

Our team will ask you to provide a number of key numbers and specifications, and will then work with you to determine the best DSH for you, based on your product type, bulk density and the flow rate you require

PRODUCTION

Each hopper system is custom made to suit your application We use only the highest quality materials and components to build our systems and have a rigorous quality control process at each step in production

INSTALL

Once the hopper system has arrived, it is time for installation. Carefully follow the installation manual provided with your system to ensure that it functions properly We provide full remote support for all DSH clients

ORDER

Once we confirm your specifications, our experienced team will work with you to ensure the design, material and features are suitable for your application, as well as deciding on any additions or alterations that may be required to suit your installation site.

DELIVERY

Each hopper and all parts required for assembly are hand packed into an Heat Treated ISPM-15 Timber Export Crate

Depending on your needs, DSH can arrange delivery via air or sea freight to the final destination.

The DSH was easy to integrate and install on site and resulted in an immediate reduction in fugitive dust emissions whilst maintaining or increasing loading rates

DSH Mini - Total dust concentration went from 164.7 mg/m3 to 13.7mg/m3 - a 91% reduction!

CREATING THE PERFECT POUR

THE PROBLEM:

Fertiliser dust from bulk loading general stores created a low-visibility, messy work environment, which was the perfect recipe for an accident People, trucks and front-end loaders were struggling to work and meet targets in a dirty, low-visibility situation and desperately needed a dust control system that transferred bulk fertiliser without interrupting schedules or reducing outputs.

THE SOLUTION:

Initially installing a single DSH System, the hopper was so effective, that DSH hoppers have since been installed in 40 stores throughout New Zealand! With continuous loading, the hoppers limit dust fallout and improve visibility, allowing for fast transfer of fertiliser through the air in a perfect pour

The system makes a difference to the bottom line too The loading plant doesn’t need dust extraction and there’s minimal or no product loss during transfer, reducing waste and the need for dust collection systems and cleaning services.

FUGITIVE DUST CONTROL: TINY PARTICLES, BIG PROBLEM

THE PROBLEM:

What do you get when you need to load 320,000 tonnes of single superphosphate for bulk shipment and transportation by truck and container? Dust! This was the problem facing Impact Fertilisers in Australia With fugitive dust escaping into the air and causing environmental and occupational health and safety problems, Impact Fertilisers also started to receive complaints from the wider community about the fugitive dust generated by their loading processes Those tiny dust particles were adding up to a big problem which didn’t seem solvable without slowing load rates.

THE SOLUTION:

A DSH System was easy to integrate and install onto site, resulting in an immediate reduction in fugitive dust emissions whilst maintaining or increasing loading rates! It was so effective, DSH Hoppers have been installed at 12 additional Impact Fertilisers sites around Australia and their use is now standard practice As well as being good for the bottom line, Impact Fertilisers have a better working environment and fewer environmental complaints
