DS H A R O B OT I C S T E A M W I N S T W I ST CO M P E T I T I O N The DSHA Robotics Team earned first place at the TWIST (Together Women in STEM Thrive) Competition, a statewide event that challenges young women to apply engineering, coding, and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure, real-world robotics challenge. Competing against top schools across Wisconsin, the all-girls DSHA team designed and programmed an autonomous robot capable of completing complex tasks such as navigating obstacles, transporting materials, and executing timed movements with precision. Their robot’s accuracy, innovation, and consistent performance distinguished DSHA as the top team in the competition.

Beyond technical excellence, the team impressed judges with their collaborative approach, sustainabilityfocused design process, and clear articulation of how robotics can be used to solve real-world humanitarian challenges. Team members—from seasoned seniors to first-year students—worked side by side for months, refining mechanical systems, testing code, and supporting one another as leaders and learners. Their victory represents not only a milestone for DSHA’s growing robotics program, but also a celebration of young women excelling in STEM fields where they are historically underrepresented.

This achievement reflects DSHA’s mission to form confident, capable women of faith, intellect, and vision.

The Robotics Team hopes to inspire even more students to explore STEM pathways while preparing for future regional and national competitions.

E L L E N B A R T E L L E A D E R S H I P & L E G A C Y AWA R D The DSHA community came together on Wednesday, November 5, for the annual President’s Dinner, where supporters, alumnae, and the Sisters of the Divine Savior gathered to celebrate leadership rooted in faith and mission. This year marked the announcement of the new Ellen Bartel Leadership & Legacy Award, created to honor individuals whose vision has shaped DSHA for generations. President Katie Brown Konieczny, DSHA ’92, opened the evening by reflecting on the profound impact of Ellen Bartel’s 20-year presidency and the foundation she built for today’s success.

Ellen, the namesake of the award, spoke with humility and gratitude. She reflected on why she said “yes” to the role all those years ago—the deep awareness of being called to serve and to continue the Salvatorian mission.

In sharing stories from her early days as president, she reminded the audience that leadership is both practical and personal. “A president,” she said, “is the one who teaches you to shake hands, to stand straight with your shoulders back, look someone in the eye, and know that you belong here.” Her words, equal parts wisdom and warmth, resonated deeply with attendees who honored Ellen with a standing ovation. The evening honored Ellen’s legacy while inspiring others to lead with purpose, authenticity, and service.

SHARING BIG NEWS The first week in November, DSHA let our greater Milwaukee community know that we are the #1 Catholic high school in Wisconsin through a series of billboards around town.

A L A M B E A U L E A P F O R WA R D This summer, DSHA kicked off a pilot flag football program and competed against area teams. On November 23, the team played at Lambeau Field during halftime of the Packers v. Vikings game. During halftime, Dashers participated in a quarterback-wide receiver challenge. Other students, including Josephine Afamefuna, DSHA ’26 (pictured above), got to practice their own Lambeau Leap.

Dear DSHA Community, This fall has been a season of purpose, pride, and promise at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School. We are honored to share that DSHA has been ranked the #1 Catholic high school in the state of Wisconsin by Niche.com. This recognition reflects not only the academic excellence of our students, but also the commitment of our faculty and staff, the partnership of our families, and our unwavering dedication to forming young women of faith, heart, and intellect.

This semester has also been extraordinary in achievement.

Our student-athletes earned multiple conference and state championships, embodying discipline, teamwork, and joy in competition. Whether on the court, field, stage, or in the classroom or chapel, our young women have demonstrated that success is most meaningful when grounded in purpose and fueled by community.

At the center of this transformative year is the inaugural launch of the Salvatorian Family House System. From day one, students, faculty, and staff leaders have stepped forward—courageously and creatively—to bring this vision to life.

Their commitment has turned an idea into a movement, one that is reshaping the spirit of DSHA. In these first months, we have seen the Salvatorian Family House System do exactly what we hoped—and more. It has fostered cross-grade friendships, inspired student leadership, and created new traditions rooted in our Catholic and Salvatorian identity. House competitions, service initiatives, prayer, and shared laughter have filled our halls with a renewed sense of belonging. We are especially grateful to the student leaders and the faculty and staff mentors who have championed this effort with passion, flexibility, and faith.

As we celebrate this progress, we also give thanks for what lies ahead. The House System is not just a structure; it is a legacy in the making—one that nurtures unity, and calls every young woman to lead with heart.

Thank you for believing in this mission, for supporting our students, and for walking with us as we dream, build, and grow.

1 | TE EI N G UP F O R DAS H E R AT H L E T I C S While Labor Day Weekend means summer is winding down, competition ramps up at DSHA for the PAA Golf Outing & Dinner. On September 5, Dasher Athletics supporters assembled at Tripoli Country Club in Milwaukee. In addition to the event’s classic golf scramble, DSHA also hosted a round robin pickleball tournament. This new addition was a success, and will be part of 2026’s event.

2 | A RE CORD - BR E A K I N G DAS H -A-T H O N After six weeks of fundraising, Dashers laced up their sneakers for seven miles of celebration on the Dash-AThon route. Students were giddy after raising a record-breaking $125,018!

In addition to raising this astounding sum, this year’s Dash-A-Thon was the first time students did not raise funds by grade level. This year, to spark a bit of friendly competition, Dashers raised money in Houses. Congratulations to the winning House: Caritas.

3 | G E N ERAT I ON S O F S I ST E R H O O D Each fall, Dashers and their DS, HA, and DSHA alumnae relatives gather for Medalist breakfast. This ceremony is a reminder of the meaningful bonds students develop not only with fellow Dashers but within their family. On October 22, DSHA welcomed more than 20 freshmen to the Medalist community. “This event brings together the legacy of our founding schools and DSHA as it lives on in each of our Medalist families,” said Alumnae Director Danielle Jerominski Rabe, DSHA ’08, at the event.

4 | O PE NING O U R DO O RS On October 19, DSHA welcomed nearly 500 people to experience the difference a Catholic, all-girls education can make at our annual open house. Dozens of students served as tour guides, showing off our inviting Campus Ministry Center, athletic facilities, classrooms, and more— all while sharing their firsthand experiences as Dashers.

House Deans were also on hand to share more about DSHA’s new Salvatorian Family House System, and prospective students could even take a quiz to be sorted into a House for the day.

5 | MAK ING SWE E T ME MO RIE S On November 22, DSHA transformed the Brookfield Conference Center into Candyland for the annual Mother Daughter Dinner Dance. More than 550 Dashers, moms, and special mother figures came together to celebrate their special bonds—all while donning sugary, sparkly attire.

1 | A V I SI T F RO M AR C H B I S H O P GR O B On September 26, Most Reverend Archbishop Jeffrey S. Grob celebrated Mass at DSHA. This Mass marked the end of DSHA’s annual Father Jordan Spirit Week. During his homily, Archbishop Grob reflected on the Gospel of Luke 18:22: “But who do you say that I am?” He reminded Dashers that to know Christ, we are called to step beyond our comfort, give of ourselves, and enter into a lifelong dance of faith. Some days are easier than others, but each step brings us closer to answering: Who am I? Who are we? What are we willing to give to know Jesus better?

Dashers celebrated the end of Father Jordan Spirit Week with a Mamma Mia!–themed Homecoming dance. Dashers donned dazzling outfits to dance, jive, and have the time of their lives. The highlight of the evening was recreating the movie’s iconic “Dancing Queen” steps.

This fall, DSHA welcomed 31 exchange students from Lycée Saint Jean in Limoges, France. Students spent two weeks enjoying classes at DSHA and seeing local sights (including a Bucks game!). DSHA has been hosting French exchange students for 30+ years, and the annual trips are a highlight for Dashers. As Stormy Walker, DSHA ’27, explained, “My correspondent taught me so much more than I expected, and she truly feels like a sister to me!”

4 | THE M O N T H O F T H E R OSARY This October, Campus Ministry invited students to come together in the Mother of Our Savior Chapel to pray the Rosary together. On October 28, Dashers gathered before school, and on October 31, students met during Dasher Time to pray the Rosary in Spanish. “I really loved coming together as a community to pray the Rosary in Spanish,” said Candy Garcia-Molohua, DSHA ’26. “Engaging with my faith through this experience was truly insightful and fulfilling, especially as it was student-led!”

5 | FRO M STAG E TO S CRE E N To promote the fall musical, several cast members from Hadestown: Teen Edition appeared on TMJ4’s What’s Brewing Wisconsin on November 10. Sarah Egbede, DSHA ’26, and Natalie Hartung, DSHA ’27, teased the plot of this myth-inspired show and shared a bit more about their respective characters: Persephone and Eurydice. Madeline Lampe, DSHA ’27; Jenna Mansfield, DSHA ’26; Ondine Mastrolia, DSHA ’27; and Alexia Nicoletopoulos, DSHA ’27, also appeared to display their incredible costumes.

6 | PACK T H E PANT RY Dashers regularly collect nonperishables for local food pantries (while also enjoying a day out of uniform!) for Collections Days. On November 5, however, students came together to go above and beyond for Pack the Pantry, a fundraiser to support the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and those impacted by the loss of SNAP benefits. Together, students, faculty, and staff contributed 150% more than a typical Collections Day! 7 | S H ARING PRAYE R Each afternoon, a Dasher leads the school in prayer over the loudspeaker. On October 15, Litzy Rodriguez Antonio, DSHA ’27, led students, faculty, and staff in a prayer she wrote to honor St. Theresa of Ávila, patron saint of Sono House. Prayer cards featuring Litzy’s words were shared with the entire school to inspire Dashers to speak thoughtfully, courageously, and kindly.

This October, Grace Ratzel, DSHA ’26, a participant in our Marian Scholar Program, was accepted into Shepherds College. Her peer mentor Payton Josetti, DSHA ’26, classmates, and Theology Faculty Lisa Metz celebrated the good news with Grace in their sixth-hour class. “It was heart-warming to see everyone take a minute to recognize Grace’s exciting accomplishment,” said Lisa. “That is when I truly see the goodness and kindness of Jesus in action.”

TO H ADE S AND B ACK This November, the DSHA Theatre Department produced Hadestown: Teen Edition. DSHA was one of the first schools in the state to put on this show— a slightly modified version of the Tony award-winning musical Hadestown.

Inspired by Greek mythology, this musical takes the audience on a journey with Eurydice, played by Natalie Hartung, DSHA ’27, as she trades an uncertain life with musician Orpheus on earth for security in the underworld with Hades and Persephone, played by Sarah Egbede, DSHA ’26. The show is narrated by Hermes, played by Madeline Lampe, DSHA ’27, and the pot is continually stirred by the six Fates: Lucy Halpern, DSHA ’26; Ann Frances Janisch, ’27; Jenna Mansfield, DSHA ’26, Ondine Mastrolia, DSHA ’27, Mary Moran, DSHA ’26; and Alexia Nicoletopoulos, DSHA ’27.

The incredible sets for this show, including a massive turntable, a suite of more than five dozen retro TVs, and the industrial trappings of Hadestown, were all created by the talented DSHA Stage Crew.

The crew and cast developed even deeper bonds by attending Mass together and praying before each performance.

Sophomores in Fine Arts Faculty Tricia Ognar’s painting class created their own interpretation of a color wheel. Katherine Courtright, DSHA ’28, took inspiration from geometric mandalas. Junior students painted landscapes and views of iconic places, including the canals of Venice like Aria Dux’s, DSHA ’27, creation.

A SYMPH O NY O F S IST E RH O O D On October 6, Divine Strings opened DSHA’s concert season. In addition to classical pieces like Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” DSHA’s premiere string group played contemporary favorites like Hozier’s “Too Sweet” and “Believer” by Imagine Dragons. First violin Sophia Collins, DSHA ’26, served as concert mistress for the performance and Fine Arts Faculty Mark Eagon as director.

VO ICE S T H AT PO P The Angelaires also took the stage for the October 6 fall concert. The troupe of 19 Dashers donned their signature skirts and bowties to perform pop favorites like “Royals” by Lorde and “Party in the USA” from Miley Cyrus. Sophia Monson, DSHA ’28, lent her stunning voice to a solo in big band classic “In the Mood.” Ann Frances Janisch, DSHA ’27; Madeline Lampe, DSHA ’27; and Mary Moran, DSHA ’26, took on solos in a performance of Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over.”

A

t DSHA, athletics have always been about more than trophies, medals, or state appearances. They have been about growth, friendship, and resilience.

But for a special group of student-athletes, sports have also been about something even deeper: sisterhood.

These sisters didn’t just share a home, a last name, and car rides to practice. They shared dreams. They pushed each other to be better. They celebrated the wins and carried the losses together. And for many of them, this season— whether their first or last—will be one they never forget.

For some, competing together at DSHA was a dream from childhood. For others, the moment didn’t feel real until tryouts, when both names appeared on the same varsity roster.

“Playing at DSHA with my sister was definitely something I always wanted. When she finally joined the team, everything became more fun. We made so many memories together.” Lizzie Stuckslager, DSHA ’26 For decades, DSHA has earned a reputation across Wisconsin as a home for champions—a place where excellence is expected, where state appearances are tradition, and where athletes don’t just participate—they compete to win. From volleyball and cross country to tennis, soccer, and swimming, DSHA teams are known for their discipline, grit, and unity.

So it’s no surprise that many of these sisters grew up with a goal of playing at DSHA where elite female athletes go to challenge themselves—and where legacies are built.

But competing at this level with your sister is something different. That’s something special.

Every sister pair talked about competition, but when asked what they admired most about each other, their answers shifted to character. They focused on spirit, respect, and love.

“One thing I really admire about my sister is her consistency. She shows up with focus, effort, and a positive attitude which makes everyone better, including me.” Meghan Quesnell, DSHA ’26 Some said the real tradition is the playlist on the way to games or meets. One sister always insists on a Disney playlist: “Every drive to our meets starts with blasting Disney Channel music and singing at the top of our lungs.” Amelia Stuckslager, DSHA ’28

They push each other, and being able to see them swim in the same relay or compete in lanes next to each other, has been enjoyable. My favorite moments are when I see them laughing together behind the starting blocks.

For those who are graduating, the hardest part is knowing that, for some, a lifetime of competing alongside “your blood” is coming to an end. That all the hours they spent together during these impressionable years are almost over—and soon they’ll be on different campuses, living different lives.

“The thing I’ll miss most is having someone who understands exactly what I’m feeling in every moment. She’s the only person who really gets it.”

Addison Buckner, DSHA ’26 Universally, they recognize what a gift this was—and they have a message for future sister-athletes: Do not take this time for granted.

“Cherish every moment. One day you’ll be heading off to college, and you’ll realize how fast it went by.” Ava Roesch, DSHA ’26 Celebrate each other’s wins, forgive the tough moments, take more pictures, and cherish the everyday things—the practices, the late-night ice cream after games, the laughter on the bench.

Parents described watching their daughters play together as one of the greatest blessings of their family life—not just because of the victories, but because of the bond they saw unfolding in real time.

From youth leagues to state tournaments, from carpool snacks to senior night, they witnessed their daughters grow not only as athletes, but as sisters.

One day, the jerseys will come off. The gym lights will dim.

But the memories—of being teammates and sisters—will last forever.

With many season highlights, athlete personal records, and strong competition, the DSHA Cross Country team embodied their team motto: “Together We Are Strong.”

DSHA Rugby once again claimed the state title!

Cross Country had a busy fall, competing in nine meets throughout their ten-week season. English Faculty Peter Nurre and Mathematics Faculty & Specialized Studies Department Chair Libby Wissing, DSHA ’10, served as co-head coaches, along with Assistant Coach Megan Frank Foley, DSHA ’00. Team captains were Candy Garcia-Molohua, DSHA ’26, Ava Johnsen, DSHA ’26, and Natalie Ottman, DSHA ’27.

Many of the 29 team members identified the Smiley Invitational at Wausau High School as a season highlight.

Not only did they race well with Varsity coming in 7th out of 17 teams and JV coming in 12th out of 20, but they also enjoyed the team bonding that comes with an overnight trip.

The Viking Invitational at McCarty Park was one of the most successful meets in program history, with 12 athletes achieving PRs on this course: Sophia Benz, DSHA ’28, Nani Rueda Casas, DSHA ’29, Lola Bergan, DSHA ’27, Emmie North, DSHA ’29, Candy Garcia-Molohua, DSHA ’26, Anna Miller, DSHA ’26, Adelaide Priestaf, DSHA ’29, Josephine Nolan, DSHA ’27, Natalie Ottman, DSHA ’27, Carolina Islas, DSHA ’26, Olivia Allen, DSHA ’27, and Helen Tamburrino, DSHA ’28 who ran the 15th fastest 5K in school history with a time of 20:15.

Ava Johnsen, DSHA ’26, has been a standout runner for the past four years. This season, she ran the second fastest time in school history, covering 5K in 18:46 at the Greater Metro Conference Meet at Mitchell Park. Her second-place finish at Conference and her 8th-place finish at WIAA Sectionals earned her First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Sectional honors.

The A-Side Rugby team won their fourth consecutive Wisconsin Girls Rugby State Championship with a 22-7 victory over Catholic Memorial High School. Ana Byrne, DSHA ’26; Maria Hilbert, DSHA ’26; Molly McGown, DSHA ’26; and Mary Rebholz, DSHA ’26, put points on the board for our Dashers. This marks DSHA Rugby’s 22nd state championship in program history. In additon to the A-Side success, our B-Side competed and finished 6th in the state.

The Rugby team is led by captains Mia Minessale, DSHA ’26, Paula Goetz, DSHA ’26, and Madeleine Savoie, DSHA ’26. Standout backs this season included Maria Hilbert, DSHA ’26; Molly McGown, DSHA ’26; Mia Minessale, DSHA ’26; and Marge Richburg, DSHA ’26. F I E LD HO C KEY This season, the Dasher Field Hockey program had 61 players on three teams: JV2, JV1, and Varsity.

The DSHA Varsity Field Hockey team had an incredibly successful season, finishing with a 7-1 conference record to secure the #1 seed heading into playoffs. The team theme of the year was “do it”—and in the end they “did it” in an exciting state final game, winning 1-0 against Arrowhead High School to become the Wisconsin High School Field Hockey Association (WHSFHA) State Champions.

The game-winning goal was scored by Rachel Memory, DSHA ’26, assisted by Riley Doerr, DSHA ’26. In the final seconds Maria Metz, DSHA ’26, made a critical defensive save to seal the victory. The team was led by senior captains Sofia Babovic, DSHA ’26; Ana Banner, DSHA ’26; Riley Doerr, DSHA ’26; and Victoria Woelfel, DSHA ’26.

Dasher Field Hockey will graduate 19 seniors this May, and the coaching staff extends their heartfelt appreciation for all they have contributed to the program.

GOLF DSHA’s Varsity Golf team kept their winning streak alive during their 2025 season.

Throughout the fall, the Dashers recorded eight tournament wins, four out of five mini meet victories, and a first-place finish at the Conference Championship Tournament. On top of that, for the third year in a row, the team claimed the GMC Championship, the Regional Championship, and the WIAA D1 State Championship.

They secured their third consecutive State Championship this fall with a team score of 621—a new WIAA Division 1 record. Addison Roesch, DSHA ’28, placed 6th; Ava Roesch, DSHA ’26, tied for 9th; Zoe Gryniewicz, DSHA ’27, finished 16th; and Julia Krueger, DSHA ’28, tied for 18th. DSHA won its first-ever golf state championship in 2023 and has won every year since.

Not only did they set the state tournament record, but they also set new school records this season. The team earned 136 points in nine holes and 287 points in 18 holes—both new DSHA golf records.

T E NN I S The DSHA tennis team had many accomplishments this season. The varsity squad finished with a strong 13-5 overall record. During their conference matches, they went 4-0, earning the title of Greater Metro Conference Runner Up. Despite competing in a very challenging Sectional, the team placed 3rd, finishing behind the top two ranked teams in the state.

Heading into the state competition, Elizabeth Regan, DSHA ’26, earned her spot in the singles bracket. DSHA also sent two doubles partners to state: Catherine Moews, DSHA ’26, and partner Lydia Packee, DSHA ’27, as well as the top-ranked sister duo, Lizzie Stuckslager, DSHA ’26, and Amelia Stuckslager, DSHA ’28.

The spirit of sisterhood was on full display as the Stuckslager sisters captured the WIAA D1 Tennis Doubles State Title. This marks Amelia’s first state championship and Lizzie’s third doubles title—an achievement matched by only two other players in school history.

This fall marks another successful season for the DSHA volleyball program. There was much to be proud of during the 2025 season, with many victories and athlete accolades. One standout program accomplishment was Head Coach Caitie O’Brien Ratkowski, DSHA ’02, celebrating her 400th program win this season. Congratulations, Coach Caitie!

The Swim & Dive Dashers continued to be successful as they broke a number of school records this season.

Coach Caitie and Assistant Coach Caitlyn Coffey, DSHA ’14, led the nationally ranked DSHA Varsity Volleyball team to a remarkable 44-4 record. The team was undefeated in the Greater Metro Conference, ranked #1 in Wisconsin, took first in four out of their five tournaments, and finished as this year’s WIAA State Runner-Up. Adding to the excitement of the season, three DSHA Varsity Volleyball athletes recently signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. Congratulations to sisters Abigail Buckner, DSHA ’26, who signed to play for the University of Connecticut, and Addison Buckner, DSHA ’26, who signed to play for Howard University. Additionally, Maddie Brown, DSHA '26, signed to play for Winona State University.

With a score of 279.5, the Dashers finished third in their Sectional Meet, the highest finish in over 20 years.

Brooklyn Haugen, DSHA ’29, broke the 100 Butterfly school record with a time of 58.62 to earn her a fifth-place finish in the State Sectionals.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Jane Johnson, DSHA ’27, Maddie DuBois, DSHA ’28, Brooklyn Haugen, DSHA ’29, and Sarah Johnson, DSHA ’29, broke the school record with a time of 1:49:24.

Diver Kendall Rummel, DSHA ’26, broke two school records this year: in six dives, she earned a score of 282.05 and again during the Swim & Dive State Sectionals where she took first place with 11 dives and a score of 505.25.

She competed in the WIAA D1 State Meet and took third place with a score of 471.35. In addition to being named GMC Diver of the Year, Kendall recently signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career as a diver at Cornell University.

To end the season, the swimmers and divers took 18th place at the WIAA D1 State Meet.

Kevin Roethe is in his first year as DSHA’s Athletic Director, following in the footsteps of Peggy Seegers-Braun and her remarkable 37-year long career in the role. Kevin is no stranger to DSHA or Dasher Athletics.

He is a current parent to two Dashers, Avery, DSHA ’27, and Reese, DSHA ’29. His family’s DSHA legacy also runs deep: his mother, Diane Hinnenkamp Roethe, DS ’65, and his sister, Dr. Kelly Roethe Hodges, DSHA ’96, are both alumnae. His dad, Tom Roethe coached the freshman basketball team for 19 years Before stepping into his new position, Kevin served as a teacher in the Science Department and as the Varsity Soccer coach for the past 19 years, leading the program to five WIAA State Championships.

WE ASKED KEVIN SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS NEW ROLE AS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR: What has been the most exciting part about being the new athletic director? As the athletic director I've enjoyed getting to know our coaches, student-athletes, and families. Building those relationships and gaining a better understanding of what makes our community unique has been energizing and motivating.

How would you describe your leadership style and approach when working with coaches and student athletes? l hope to lead by creating a collaborative environment where coaches and student-athletes feel trusted, supported, and empowered. I hope to set clear expectations, encourage open communication, and involve others in decision-making so that everyone feels ownership in the program's success.

What values do you think define our all-girls athletic program? I want our athletic program to be centered on the holistic development of student-athletes and to focus on building a culture that values growth, accountability, and positive character traits. The values that define our athletic programs are academic success, athletic excellence, teamwork, leadership, service, and sportsmanship.

What are your hopes for the future of Dasher Athletics?

My hope is that athletics at DSHA continue to build a stronger sense of community and school spirit. I want our girls to compete at the highest level and to perform to the best of their ability. I hope that participation in sports at DSHA continues to increase and that the expansion of sport offerings enable girls to find a team that helps them grow individually and makes them feel connected to the DSHA community. 

Where Belonging Begins I

t’s October 1, and the bleachers in the Chris & John McDermott Gymnasium are packed with Dashers cheering on the Varsity Volleyball team.

Students are on their feet and roaring with every point gained. It’s not championship game, though, it’s the first-ever after-school event for House points—points that could earn students the coveted House Cup. “I’ve never seen a crowd like that on a Wednesday night mid-season,” said Principal Dan Quesnell.

Attendance and energy like this are precisely what Dan and his colleagues hoped for when establishing the new Salvatorian Family House System this school year.

The foundation of school spirit and belonging This newly established system is a way to organize student life and create a sense of belonging for all Dashers.

This is done by sorting each student into one of five houses: Caritas, Lumen, Dignitas, Sono, and Illustratae. These houses are made up of students across grade levels and are sorted randomly, allowing girls to get to know others who they may not have met at school otherwise.

Each house includes a suite of leaders, including a Penny to cheer their House on. These Houses are each assigned a host of events to plan throughout the year, including blood drives, dances, the Airband, and student auction. In this way, the Houses come together to work as a kind of student council.

The real foundation, though, lies in DSHA’s Salvatorian roots. “We’re trying to create a Salvatorian family here,” said Dan, referencing the network of Salvatorian sisters, brothers, priests, and lay people.

As such, the Houses have close ties to the mission of the Sisters of the Divine Savior: to make known the goodness and kindness of Jesus. To further inspire students, each House has a patron saint, assigned quality of a DSHA graduate, and house mantra (a quote from their patroness).

“We have these values that are true to us religiously, academically, and emotionally,” explained Academic Dean Erin Housiaux. “I think the House System does a really good job on drawing upon those.”

A spark of inspiration Dean of Students Rachel Fredricks explained that for several years, she and her colleagues had been searching for a way to create a sense of belonging for students. “We were looking for a way to engage all of our students and increase school spirit,” she said.

Dan Quesnell

Dan shared that he initially stumbled across the House model while doing some research and quickly discovered that many Catholic schools have made use of it to organize campus life. From there, he visited Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in St. Louis, to see how its house system operates. Dan learned that this school had very similar motivations to DSHA for creating their system. Later, Rachel and a handful of DSHA faculty attended House System Institute symposiums to inform the implementation of a system here.

At these meetings, Rachel learned about the core components of any house system: “All students are sorted, there’s a homeroom of sorts, and there’s competition.” The rest of the organization is up to the individual school.

The first semester With these basic elements in mind, DSHA kicked off the semester by sorting all students, faculty, and staff into the five Houses. At the first all-school assembly of the year, Dashers cracked a glowstick in the dark Robert & Marie Hansen Family Fine Arts Theatre to reveal their House’s signature color.

From there, it didn’t take long for girls to get into the House spirit. Students were charged with raising funds for Dash-A-Thon by House rather than by grade level, and by the end of August, there was already friendly competition afoot. Students monitored their House’s totals carefully, all hoping to earn the coveted prize for the winning House: a week out of uniform. Caritas came out on top, though all Houses met their goals and made this year a record-breaking Dash-A-Thon.

“It’s given girls a sense of belonging beyond the academic realm and beyond the athletic realm,” said Erin.

It’s also brought a lot of joy. “We’ve seen a lot of excitement,” said Erin. “When the girls come together as whole houses, like for field day or Mass or Dash-A-Thon, they’re clearly having a lot of fun and having a lot of fun making connections.

This fun is critical to the success of the Salvatorian Family House System. “There’s a lot of heavy stuff in the world and their lives. The fun we’re breathing into school with the Houses is a way of saying leave space for that,” said Dan. “Go giggle.” 

Since that early win for school spirit, Dan said, “We’re really starting to see girls show up for House competitions and school events.” This is evident as DS H A WORD M AG A Z I N E

How Dashers Are Growing in Faith— Together At DSHA, faith is lived through community. This year, the new Salvatorian Family House System has become a powerful way for students to pray together, serve together, and build meaningful bonds rooted in their Catholic identity.

“Faith grows best in houses,” says Director of Campus Ministry Stephanie Monson. “The House System creates little families within our community.”

These “families” gather at all-school Mass in their Dens, sitting across grade levels and strengthening relationships that make faith feel more personal and connected.

Each Mass begins with Campus Ministry representatives processing in with candles representing their Houses—a symbol of each community’s place in the Body of Christ. Students earn House points through service, Collections Days, and participation in optional Thankful Thursday Masses has increased as students come with their House members or friends.

A Faith Identity Rooted in Patron Saints Every House is guided by a patron saint—five remarkable women whose lives reflect the qualities of a Dasher graduate. Working with Campus Ministry, write House prayers, create prayer cards, and help plan feast day celebrations. Students receive medals representing their saints, adding to a growing sense of House pride.

“One of the greatest spiritual strengths of the House System is the way students learn from their patron saints and really buy in to the identity of their House,” says Associate Director of Campus Ministry Jena Thurow-Mountin. “There is already great spirit developing.”

Houses are also beginning to imagine service aligned to their saints—“There is so much room to grow,” Stephanie adds. “I can’t wait to see the traditions that will develop.”

Student Leadership at the Center Campus Ministry is one of many leadership positions.

The House System has reshaped the way Campus Ministry connects with students. Campus Ministry reps now send weekly updates, encourage participation in faith opportunities, and check in with their House members at Mass and events.

“I put more responsibility into students’ hands,” Jena explains. “Instead of campus ministers pushing out reminders, student leaders are rallying their peers. They’re really taking ownership.”

Many House leaders are also retreat leaders or involved in Campus Ministry, making the House System an extension of DSHA’s already vibrant

spiritual life. “Campus Ministry has the same mission,” Stephanie says, “just with one more way to foster belonging.”

Faith Through Belonging Whether cheering each other on, donating to food drives, or simply knowing they will have someone to sit with at Thursday Mass, the House System reinforces that faith is strongest when shared.

As the year continues, the Salvatorian Houses are becoming spiritual homes: places where faith is lived with joy, responsibility, and the support of community. And in these homes, Dashers are discovering daily what it means to walk forward in faith, heart, and intellect—together. 

Leaving a Legacy Inspired by Catholic symbolism and DSHA’s qualities of a graduate, Lizzy Gardner, DSHA ’21, created the Salvatorian Family House crests.

She discusses how meaningful her capstone internship project was at DSHA. “DSHA has always been part of my life. My mom [Sono House Dean & Mathematics Department Chair Dawn Gardner] started teaching here before I was born. I had always gone to Movie Days, Dash-A-Thon, musicals, and even sat in during classes when I was a kid. I then went to DSHA and got my internship the year after I graduated.

After being connected to this school for so many years, the crests feel like a way of me celebrating that and giving back what I can. I think freshman year me wouldn’t believe what I have done, and senior year me would get a sense of comfort knowing that it wasn’t too late for me to make a positive impact on myself and the school.”

Masses and other sacraments, because of DSHA’s commitment to creating an environment that truly celebrates Catholic identity in all its fullness, I’ve been honored to have been part of the conversations around the new House system and what that can mean for our students.

Even as the Catholic identity of the school is a primary value, we recognize that this is a value that is celebrated in its fullest sense as we invite all of our students (regardless of their faith tradition) to share their unique gifts and talents with the broader community in ways that recognize how God is at work in each and every Dasher. Every student has something to offer the school, their parish or faith community, and the world, and that is what we want to nurture and celebrate!

The spiritual values of the Catholic tradition and our Salvatorian heritage, as well as the words of Scripture and the patron saints that have been chosen for each of our five Houses help shape who we are becoming as a community of faith. Oue hope is that each of our students can build on this foundation as part of coming to their understanding of who it is that God is calling her to be—discovering her unique vocation. This certainly inspires me in my work as chaplain.

There is never an ordinary day here at DSHA, and I’m excited to always explore how God is at work in this amazing community, as we ask, ‘What’s next?’

Nudging Forward with Purpose A Conversation with Academic Dean Erin Housiaux In her first year at DSHA, Academic Dean Erin Housiaux (pronounced HOOZ-see-oh) has already become a familiar and respected presence in the halls and classrooms. With a passion for academic excellence, a deep belief in the power of sisterhood, and a commitment to faith-filled education, she is helping lead DSHA into its next chapter.

We sat down with Erin to learn more about what brought her here, her vision for learning, and what has surprised her most in her first months as a Dasher.

What drew you to DSHA and inspired you to take on the role of Academic Dean? When I moved to Wisconsin eight years ago, DSHA quickly became a name I heard everywhere—through its graduates, its reputation, and the spirit of its community. I was drawn to the genuine sisterhood among alumnae and their commitment to giving back—spiritually, professionally, and within Milwaukee. I actually reached out to the former dean years ago because it seemed like a dream role. When the position opened, I felt called. It was the right challenge at the right time in my life.

How would you describe your philosophy of teaching and learning in an all-girls Catholic college preparatory school? I believe that we contain multitudes—especially as women. Education should honor all parts of who we are: intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and communal. At DSHA, faith and rigor are not opposites; they strengthen one another. I want classrooms to be places of curiosity, courage, and mentorship—not perfection. Perfectionism can limit young women. I want them to know: try everything. Perfection is the enemy of the good. Your gifts will make themselves known.

What are your top academic priorities this year—and for the future? I’ve inherited an excellent academic environment, but excellence is never static. This year, I’m focused on building trust, understanding our strengths, and using data wisely to inform instruction and curriculum. Long-term, I want us to be even more intentional about how girls learn—collaboratively, relationally, and with confidence. I also care deeply about reading and critical thinking. Those skills are timeless, and in a complex world, they matter more than ever.

How do you plan to support both students and faculty in reaching their fullest potential? Relationships come first. When teachers and students feel safe to 28

reflect, take risks, and ask for support, growth follows.

I see teachers as learners, too—we should model curiosity and self-awareness. I’m passionate about using the science of how girls learn, leveraging data thoughtfully, and anticipating the academic, emotional, and technological needs of our community.

What has surprised or delighted you most since joining the DSHA community? The integrity of the mission. Who DSHA says it is—faith-filled, academically strong, and student-centered—is exactly who it is. I love the joy in assemblies, the confidence of our students, and the quiet beauty of daily prayer. Even small pauses—like schoolwide morning prayer—feel innovative in today’s world. I’m grateful to be here, and I’m excited to finish year one, learn from it, and keep nudging us toward our best selves. 

House Events Welcome Back Dance | To kick off the new school year, Dashers put on their dancing shoes and hit the Quad. The energy was exuberant and the fun was abundant!

Field Day | What’s old is new again!

Field Day is back at DSHA. This September, Dashers participated in kickball, puzzling, egg drop, chalk art, tug-of-war, trivia, and more. Congratulations to Dignitas for securing the win.

Dash-A-Thon | This year, Dashers collaborated with their Houses, rather than their classes, to raise funds for Dash-A-Thon.

This major switch ignited healthy competition among Dashers. In the end, Caritas beat out the other houses with $19,948 of the record-breaking $125,018 total.

Volleyball Game | At the October 1 volleyball game, Dashers packed the stands to cheer on the varsity squad as they took on Kettle Moraine High School.

Dashers won the match, and Dignitas brought home a victory for their House.

Thankful Thursday Masses | Eash week, Dashers are invited to optional Thankful Thursday Masses. These provide students with extra opportunities outside all-school Masses to further develop their faith. Lumen and Dignitas are tied for highest attendance.

Theology Department Chair As a classroom teacher, I obviously want my students to remember the details from my classes, but I also know that relationships and interpersonal experiences are the things that will accompany our students most when they leave high school. If I run into a former student in the grocery store, I rarely hear "I remember the test you gave in World Religions," or "I loved that lesson you presented about the sacramental life of the Catholic Church." Instead, I hear about memories they have from retreat experiences, field trips, meaningful moments of prayer, and fun assemblies and activities! Yes, high school is a time to gain knowledge and practice study skills, but it is also a time when young people form their identity. I want to be a part of the Salvatorian Family House System that provides a myriad of ways to make memories.

I love helping create this sense of House identity for all students—reminding them that they belong to something bigger and that they have a place here in our school.

Houses allow for all students to find a place of belonging here at DSHA, and being a House Dean, I get the privilege of helping create that sense of community and family amongst the girls in my House. Implementing the House System allows students to show not only school pride, but also House pride, which is such a unique and creative way of creating connection and community among students across grade levels. I love that students and adults get to know people in a new and different capacity within our school building.

Being a House Dean is very important to me, because at the end of the day, the Salvatorian Family House System is about building relationships and creating a stronger DSHA community.

In year one of the program, our two goals are to build community with each other and have fun doing it. As a leader, I also want to demonstrate the power that positive relationships have at school. When we feel happy coming to school or feel like a meaningful part of something bigger it increases our overall engagement and positivity. If I can play a small role in helping lead our students in these areas through the Salvatorian Family House System, then I will have done my job as House Dean.

I love that the House system includes everyone in the building—every student, faculty, and staff member.

We are building community and connections for everyone. I love watching my Den Directors get excited as they plan fun activities for their Dens. I love working with my House Student Leaders and getting to know them as more than just students in my class.

I absolutely love working with my fellow House Deans. We bring different gifts to the group and complement each other well. I love being a part of the building and implementation of the Salvatorian Family House System.

I love knowing that, along with the other House Deans, we can make and grow the House System into whatever we need it to be here at DSHA.

This role as a House Dean has allowed me to take on an exciting and meaningful new role in our school community. As an educator, having the ability to interact with the students in my classroom is a blessing, and as a House Dean, I am given the opportunity to connect with students across our school that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet. In my vocational career, I have always sought to create an engaging and exciting learning environment for my students, and now I get to create that outside the classroom. Seeing the engagement and enthusiasm that our school community experienced during our first annual House Field Day in September was a joyous moment, and a sign of more new and exciting things to come from the Salvatorian Family House System at DSHA. 

Being a House Dean makes me feel like I am helping to contribute to the whole-person experience each of our students receive beyond what they get in their classes.

hen Jeni and Joe Tate talk about why they give, they don’t start with dollar amounts.

They start with daughters—and the lessons that shape a life.

“I’m a feminist—no doubt about it,” Jeni says, smiling.

“I want girls to have chances to do whatever they want, to be the CEOs, and to succeed.” For the Tates, that conviction is more than a viewpoint: it’s a family operating principle. Their foundation focuses on three pillars—life skills, education, and environment— and each branch of their family actively participates in grantmaking. “We’re blessed and grateful,” Jeni adds. “It’s been wonderful to bring our family together around philanthropy.”

This year, that spirit takes tangible form at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School. The Tates have committed a $500,000 founder’s challenge gift to propel DSHA’s Forward in Faith Campaign—specifically the athletic fields and safety/security phase—forward.

It’s a catalytic bet that others will answer the call.

“It’s always about the journey, not just the end result,” Joe says. A former high school and collegiate athlete, he’s watched how sports demand teamwork, discipline, and grit. He recounts a family story about pushing past limits on a grueling endurance climb.

After his son-in-law and granddaughter, Maddie Mahoney, DSHA ’23, climbed 29,029 feet in under 36 hours, Maddie had a revelation. “There will never be a mountain that’s too high for me to climb,” she said, experiences like that are exactly what athletics and a mission-driven school can nurture. “You can live your whole life and not learn some lessons sports teach in a day,” he says. “That’s part of why this matters.”

home—with a granddaughter and niece who chose the school for its challenge and community. They noticed the need for improved athletic fields and safer, more modern facilities, and they recognized how those investments support everything else DSHA stands for: faith-formed leadership, academic excellence, and a sisterhood that crosses grade levels. The school’s new Salvatorian Family House System, which organizes students across classes to build mentorship, service, and healthy competition, resonated with the Tates’ belief that leadership is learned by doing.

Equally important to the Tates is access. “Scholarships are essential,” Jeni says plainly. “We want schools to be inclusive and accessible; without that, we wouldn’t give.” Their family has seen firsthand how their past cornerstone grants to organizations such as Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy and the Sojourner Family Peace Center have had positive impacts on disadvantaged kids and families. “Education changes trajectories,” Joe says. “But only if people can get in.”

The DSHA challenge reflects the Tates’ approach: lead with a bold gift that invites a community to move together. “This is designed to inspire others,” Joe explains. “We hope it sparks the next commitments.” Early signs suggest it will: Subsequent pledges are already following their lead, helping to build momentum toward shovels in the ground and,

ultimately, student-athlete experiences worthy of DSHA’s academic rigor and mission.

A challenge gift, by definition, is an invitation. The Tates have issued theirs. Now the rest of us—alumnae, parents, grandparents, and friends—have a chance to respond, to match generosity with our own, and to build the fields, the safety, and the future that DSHA students deserve.

As Joe says, “Athletics teach resilience and teamwork—and that carries into the classroom and into life.” As Jeni adds, “We want girls to have chances—to lead, to achieve, and to thrive.” That’s the legacy they hope to pass on—to their children and grandchildren, and to every young woman who wears DSHA across her jersey and carries its values into the world. 

Seeing women connect during DSHA’s annual Alumnae Weekend, it’s almost as if no time has passed at all.

“Any time I see alumnae get together, the sisterhood is very much present,” said Alumnae Director Danielle Jerominski Rabe, DSHA ’08. “But at Alumnae Weekend, that feeling of community is cranked all the way

On October 3, the Alumnae of the Year honorees, Betsy Stone, DSHA ’10, Kori Ashley, DSHA ’05, and Ann Bonness Angel, DS ’70, spoke at an all-school assembly and fielded student questions. They all touched on how attending an all-girls school made them feel empowered to achieve great things—and form lifelong friendships. Betsy was introduced at the assembly by one of her closest friends and classmates: Academic Interventionist Katie Klinger Leszczynski, DSHA ’10.

A TOAST TO FRI ENDSHIP AND TRADITION Alumnae continued celebrations all weekend long— both at Zisters in Elm Grove for a party hosted

by DSHA and as individual classes at locations throughout the area.

Claudia Halaska, HA ’70, reconnected with her friends at Vino Cappucino in Brookfield. “Reunions are a chance to celebrate life, reflect on our many different paths, and appreciate the legacy we leave behind,” she said.

“What I love about bringing all these women together is seeing them connect not only with their classmates, but with other women,” said Danielle.

“I think my favorite is seeing alums from HA and DS hanging out together; I love seeing how they’ve made a bond.”

FA I TH AND FE LLOWSHIP The weekend concluded on October 5 with Mass at DSHA. Jubilarians—those celebrating 50 or more years since graduating—then gathered for brunch in the Quad. Beth Tyson Dunn, DSHA ’75, opened the celebration with a prayer: “Fill our time together with laughter, gratitude, and renewed connection.

May the years ahead be full of peace, health, and continued blessings.”

While Alumnae Weekend 2025 is over, Danielle knows that these friendships will continue to endure. “DSHA really does create lifelong bonds,” she said. “Every woman who visited this weekend is a testament to that lasting sisterhood.” 

Betsy Stone, DSHA ’10 Senior Counsel • Foley & Lardner LLP Now senior counsel at one of the largest law firms in the country, Betsy Stone can trace the seed of her career back to her time at DSHA. “I felt exhilarated after competing for Model UN, like I’d just won a soccer game,” said Betsy. This co-curricular, along with classes that allowed her to present and debate, helped Betsy realize her strengths. She embraced her voice, her assertive attitude, and sense of social responsibility.

After graduating from DSHA, Betsy went on to earn a double major at Marquette University and received her JD at UW-Madison. In 2018, she began at Foley & Lardner LLP and quickly became a rising star, receiving awards from the Wisconsin Law Journal and Women’s Fund of Greater Milwaukee. She’s also been recognized by the court for her commitment to providing free legal services to vulnerable populations.

Betsy credits DSHA for sparking her success: “It instilled such a confidence in me.”

Kori Ashley can pinpoint the class that led her to her calling: AP Government with Social Studies Department Chair Patrick Dawson. “Starting to ask myself what I could do to positively impact my community, began with that class,” she said. “It fostered in me a deep care about what happens to others and how I can help.”

Ann Bonness Angel knew that Divine Savior High school was the place for her. “It was a beginning for me to discover who I was,” she said.

Following this passion, Kori went on to earn her JD from UW-Madison in 2012. She went on to be a criminal defense attorney, then focused on helping the underserved at Legal Action of Wisconsin. While she thought she would serve in this role for many years, Kori couldn’t help but accept the honor of being appointed a circuit court judge at just 32—one of the youngest to take on the robe in the state.

Since taking on this position, Kori has received the Black Excellence Award by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, chaired the Diversity Inclusion and Oversight Committee for the Wisconsin State Bar, and more. She is a fierce advocate for diversity on the bench, noting that a variety of perspectives leads to the best ideas and solutions.

DS helped Ann understand that the all-girls environment was right for her; so much so that she enrolled at Mount Mary following graduation in 1970. “I loved being in a room full of women and helping to empower them to use their voices,” she stated. “You’re not only feeling your own power, but the power of the women around you.”

Empowered to achieve her goals, Ann went on to teach at Mount Mary for more than 30 years, and published several books for young adults, Janis Joplin: Rise Up Singing, for which she earned a Young Adult Library Services Association Award for Excellence in Nonfiction in 201. Ann has also published Silent Embrace: Perspectives on Birth and Adoption with her daughter Amanda Angel, DSHA ’96.

1 | After concluding her final collegiate track and field season at Notre Dame (and earning her master’s degree in nonprofit administration) this year, Jadin O’Brien, DSHA ’20, is ready to hit the ice. Jadin joined the World Cup Team for Team USA Bobsled this September.

The transition from track to ice is new for Jadin, but success is not. During her time at DSHA, she earned three state titles: 2017 300-meter hurdles, 2019 300-meter hurdles, and 2019 100-meter hurdles. Jadin is also a threetime national pentathlon champion.

The World Cup competition is a big step toward qualifying for the Winter Olympics. The Olympic team roster will be announced in January 2026.

2 | This year, Joanne Karolzak Hyde, DSHA ’81, marked 40 years with her child abuse prevention agency Casa de los Niños. She currently serves as the organization’s vice president of family support and education.

She also wed the love of her life on December 28, 2024.

3 | Melissa Jonardi Jacobs, DSHA ’12, presented at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s annual conference in Chicago in October representing Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. She, along with her coworker, shared occupational therapy’s role in treating patients with mechanical circulatory support devices and how to best advocate for their integral role with this complex patient population.

9 | After nearly a decade teaching, Sarah Merkt, DSHA ’09, joined the founding team of Cresconova Global, a nonprofit education company that runs enrichment classes for students globally. As Director of Programs and Curriculum, Sarah oversees the design and implementation of global learning experiences while keeping her love for teaching alive by leading a class each week. Most recently, her company expanded, launching Cresconova Labs, an in-person supplemental education center in Chelsea, London, empowering students with experiential learning.

After 42 years of owning a small animal and exotics veterinary clinic, Dr. Peggy Orzel, DSHA ’73, retired this year. She stays busy with her six horses and by volunteering as a trainer at a local dog club.

This November, Ramani Kutty-Patel, DSHA ’04, was promoted to Manager of Inpatient Care Management at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee. St. Luke’s is the largest hospital in the state. There, Ramani will be co-managing the department of social workers and nurse case managers. She ensures that patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right setting by the right provider, according to Ramani.

Sarah Oliveri Kunkel, DSHA ’09, and her husband Kevin welcomed baby Cary Robert Kunkel on May 29. Cary joins siblings Wesley, Milo†, and Quinn.

As we look ahead with the Forward in Faith campaign, we take a moment to look back at the history of our treasured turf.

This spring, DSHA will break ground on new outdoor athletic facilities.

These fields will give Dashers the opportunity to practice, compete, and host games on campus—a major win for the 65% of students who participate in athletics at DSHA. While we look forward to these updates, we can’t help but reflect on all these fields have seen since Divine Savior High School opened its doors at DSHA’s current campus back in 1951. Back in the school’s early days on 100th Street, the campus grounds were occasionally used for physical education and school events.

Over the years, though, students began to organize outdoor games for fun, including a small yet dedicated crew of softball players. In 1972, DSHA introduced its first formal softball team. In the years that followed, more outdoor sports would be added to DSHA’s roster, including soccer in 1979, field hockey in 2004, and lacrosse in 2017. DSHA continues to expand its athletics offerings—a pilot flag football program began in summer 2025!
