Welcome to the DSE Fair

It is with great pleasure that the DSE team and I welcome you to the largest job and career fair for engineering students in Denmark, The DSE Fair Lyngby 2023. The DSE Fair is where more than 130 companies, start-ups and organizations look forward to meeting and talking to students and hopefully finding their new interns or employees. The fair’s strong fundament comes from the over 60 student volunteers, who each year work hard to make this the best fair in Denmark for you, your fellow students and all the participating companies.

DSE Fair Lyngby 2023 is a great opportunity for students to meet company representatives and expand their professional network. The Fair gives the students a unique opportunity to speak directly to company representatives and hear directly from themselves what is attractive to a potential employer and which skills are valued in their company.

The unemployment rate for engineering graduates speaks for itself, and there is, without a doubt, high demand for engineering students. Why would more than 130 companies else take two days out of their calendars only to talk to the next generation of talented engineers? We are so grateful for the support and engagement from both the industry and DTU. Despite engineering students being a highly attractive workforce, the job

market is an ever-changing and emergent organism, and it is not set in stone which jobs are waiting for you after you graduate. It is, therefore, very important that you become as attractive to the market as possible – so come prepared, read up on companies, and find out why you want to talk to them.

If you have not read up on the companies beforehand, you can always use the job and career handbook Pejling. Here you can read more about the companies and obtain skills that empower your resume writing, upgrade your CV and how to improve your network. I am sure Pejling will give you the tools you need for a successful fair experience.

The DSE Fair is arranged by DSE (Students’ Business Relations), which is an entirely voluntary student organization. DSE has around 60 members across two divisions with offices located in Ballerup, Lyngby, and Aalborg. Most of our members are engineering students. DSE has been around for 30 years, and the relevancy of our services are as great as ever.

As an organization, DSE offers a lot of benefits as well as challenges for our members. Apart from the DSE Fair, we arrange Focus Night and PRE-PAIR. We also produce one of the best job finding tools in the country, Pejling.

Do you want to organize events for career fairs, design catchy posters, or experience planning and management of major events up close? We are always open to new ideas, and we can help turn yours into reality. At DSE you will have the opportunity to improve on a personal level as well as your professional skills.

DSE is not only beneficial for your future career, it is an organization which broadens your social network. We create the framework for a large range of social events – both for all DTU students and within the organization.

Bring your CV

When you bring your CV to the fair, it shows that you have thought about your job application process and are serious about your interest in the company. Furthermore if you have a CV with a portrait the company representatives are more likely to remember you.

A Helping hand

For the 34th consecutive year, DSE Fair Lyngby provides the perfect framework for networking with a broad spectrum of companies, one of which, might be your future employer. At the fair, you can get connections in the business world which can be highly valuable in your future search for a project, student job or even fulltime job. To help you get the most out of the fair and make good use of your time, we encourage you to keep reading this and spend some time preparing for the fair, using the tips below.

Be well prepared

First of all, it is a good idea to ask yourself how you want your career to develop. What would you like your career to look like one year after graduation, and what should you do to achieve this? This mindset provides a solid basis for your conversation with the companies and helps you figure out whether a specific company fits your visions for the future.

Know what you are looking for

Is it a job or an internship? Ideas and contacts for a project? Or general inspiration? Whatever you are looking for, use this as the common thread through your visit and to help you make a prioritized list of which companies you want to visit. We recommend that you use the fair catalog to choose a top ten list of companies and visit them first. This way you avoid running out of steam before reaching the companies most relevant to you. You can always return to other companies later. Remember to include lesser known companies on your list too – they can provide just as exciting opportunities.

Explore their websites

Before visiting the fair, be sure to do some research on the companies you want to visit. A good place to start is the companies’ websites, which provide all the basic information you need to prepare a thorough conversation with the company representative at the fair. Once you have the basics covered, it is easier to prepare a list of relevant questions you want answered when visiting the company’s stand at the fair. It is a good idea to prepare these questions in advance. Bring it to ensure you explore each every oppertunity fully. It will also help you to start interesting conversations with the companies.

At the fair

Once you are at the fair, remember that the companies are there to make contact to students such as yourself – so don’t be afraid to make the initial contact; they are all very willing to answer your questions. When you talk to the companies, remember to use your checklist to make sure you ask all the relevant questions and add new ones if they should arise during a conversation.

With just a few keywords you will be much closer to writing the CV or application that gets you the job interview. Another notable aspect is the time – you can easily spend a couple of hours at the fair talking to interesting companies and attending the Company Presentations (pp. 27) in the DTU Library so be sure to set aside sufficient time. If you are close to graduating, looking for a student job, or simply want to know more about the job positions available at the moment, you should check the DTU Career Hub as well as a part of your fair experience. Opening speech

To open the DSE Fair, we would like to invite you to our grand opening event at the DTU Library at 9.45 Wednesday the 29th of March. Here, the DSE Chairman Cecilie Oved Bendtsen, President of DTU Anders Overgaard

Bjarklev and Deputy Director for Education, Research and Diversity Mikkel

Haarder from the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) will join in giving a speech to kickstart the Fair.

The opening speech will be marked with free coffee, a croissant and a goodie bag for the first 50 attendees to give the best start at the fair day. We will start the handouts around 9.30. We encourage all fair attendees to hear the speech as it will set the stage for what the Fair can offer and greatly motivate you to be at your best for meeting all the companies.

Stamp Competition

Explore all areas of the fair for a chance to win a Hövding sponsored by Danske commodities! Hövding is the safest cyclehelmet in the world which is not a helmet according to a French test institute.

Get your stamp card at the info booth in The Hall or the Tent and at the same time, get your first stamp. To collect the remaining stamps, visit the Pejling booth in Oticon and the info booth at the DTU Library!

When your card is full, then fill in your contact information and hand it in to one of the info booths.

One winner will be drawn and contacted on 9th of April!

DTU Carrier Hub allows you to connect with employers and find student jobs, graduate programmes and full time positions. You can find job postings from the companies participating at the Fair through the DSE Fair Lyngby 2023 event in DTU Carrer Hub.

Fair Questionnaire

Tell us what you think!

Once again the fair questionnaire gift is a water bottle from NALGENE.

If you want to be the lucky owner of such a water bottle, head to the Foyer outside of The Hall to answer the fair evaluation by scanning the QR code. Assistance will be available at the wardrobe and info booths.

The gift can be picked up at the Oticon café by showing that you have answered the questionnaire. These gifts are handed out between 12:00–15:00 both Wednesday and Thursday during the fair, as long as supply lasts.

Have your photo taken for free

You spent years on education. Months searching for a job. Days on each application. Why not spend a minute getting a professional photo taken? True to tradition, the great photographers from PF Foto will again be ready take you photo, edit it and email it to you.

Say cheese at stand 411 in the Tent.

Be aware: Queue may occur - so be in good time and bring your best smile! Also, PF Foto are responsible for sending the photo to you which might take some weeks since they are popular - but free.

Oticon Café

Relax and have a cup of coffee and a muffin

Are you in need of a short break during your visit at the fair?

Come have a seat in the lounge area at the Oticon Café. Here, you can have a muffin and a cup of coffee with your friends, while discussing your findings among the amazing companies at the fair and where to head next.

The coffee and muffin are free of charge.

Pejling booth

Drop by the Pejling booth for a talk with the DSE members and Fair Assistants, get the company handbook Pejling and learn more about what we do and how DSE can help you on your career path.

There will be a competition at the booth where you e.g. can be the lucky winner of 2 tickets for the DTU COMMEMORATION (DTU ÅRSFEST) 2023! Bring your glasses, the rumour says you have to count.

Remember to also get your stamp for the stamp competition!

Meet exciting start-ups from DTU Skylab. Working at a start-up is dramatically different from what day-to-day life might be like in a large corporation. At this year’s fair you can meet different start-ups from DTU Skylab both days and hear about what life is like to start something on your own.

Meet them on the platform by the DTU Library entrance!
