The Living Rooms is a place where it is “OK not to be OK” and was opened at 5/5A Garthway Arcade in November 2019. As a project initiated by the Churches in Northallerton, it is faith based but not faith biased. People of any faith or none are welcome without discrimination, as visitors or volunteers.

We have applied for a Co-op Community Grant which, if approved, will be based on votes from Co-op members. We would be very grateful for the support of In Focus readers in this way.

Our Trustees are representative of the community as well as the Churches.

Our main space downstairs is café style with an open plan kitchen, chairs, tables, settees etc and a separate quiet/prayer room. Currently we hold Renew Wellbeing (www.renewwellbeing.org.uk) sessions where our volunteer hosts offer simple hospitality, a chance to chat and share tabletop activities. Visitors are free to join in, or not, as they wish but it is a place where friendship and a listening ear are offered unconditionally, especially for those who struggle to thrive or even survive.

In our Renew Wellbeing sessions we have begun a step by step relaxation of our Covid measures At present sessions are held every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday - 10am to 1pm The number of visitors is limited but will increase slowly and be kept under review.

We are a community hub in partnership with a variety of statutory and voluntary organisations including the Local Authorities and NHS Mental Health Services. We are able to signpost on those who need specialist services. Our premises include meeting and group rooms upstairs which may be available to other organisations serving those who are isolated, vulnerable or otherwise in need of support. We are delighted to have been given a Hambleton Heroes Award for 2020 from Hambleton District Council, recognising our service to the community in 2020.
