What is Water Smart?

Water Smart is a swim safety education program built into most Canadian swimming lessons. It teaches safe habits around water, such as never swimming alone, asking permission before entering water, and recognizing hazards. The goal is to help swimmers make safe choices and reduce drowning risk.

What is Swim for Life?

Swim for Life is a learn-to-swim program developed by the Lifesaving Society. It builds swimming ability through progressive levels that teach floating, swimming strokes, entries, and basic rescue skills. The program also builds water safety awareness and survival skills for all ages.

What is the Canadian Swim Patrol?

Canadian Swim Patrol is the next step after Swim for Life in the Lifesaving Society training pathway. It includes Rookie, Ranger, and Star levels that build endurance, swimming techniques, rescue skills, first aid basics, and teamwork. It prepares swimmers for advanced lifesaving and leadership training.

What is the Lifesaving Society?

The Lifesaving Society is a national organization focused on preventing drowning and water-related injuries. It sets standards for swim lessons, lifesaving training, and certifications across Canada. It also develops programs like Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol

This program is crafted for children aged 6 to 12, focusing on developing strong, confident swimming skills as they progress into deeper water. Through hands-on practice in the water, young swimmers will enhance their strokes, build endurance, and learn essential Water Smart safety skills, all of which are reinforced at every level.

Swim Patrol Swim Patrol

The Canadian Swim Patrol program is designed for swimmers aged 10 and above who are eager to explore the realm of lifesaving. This program enhances strength and proficiency while imparting essential lifesaving judgment skills. Recommended completion of Swimmer 6.

ROOKIE

This program aims to enhance fitness for a 100-metre swim and a 350-metre workout, while also teaching water proficiency, basic first aid with EMS response, victim recognition, and throwing rescue techniques.

RANGER

Builds advanced aquatic skills and fitness, including stride entry, somersaults, eggbeater kick, and a 200m timed swim, while strengthening ABC first aid knowledge, victim recognition and non-contact rescue techniques

STAR

Prepares swimmers for the Bronze Star by enhancing endurance, perfecting strokes (100 meters each), and cultivating lifesaving and first aid skills. This includes a 600-metre workout and a 300metre timed swim.

Leadership Courses Leadership Courses

Designed for swimmers aged 12 and older, these programs focus on developing aquatic skills, lifesaving knowledge, and leadership experience. Through hands-on training, participants will enhance their fitness, judgment, and emergency response capabilities while working towards lifeguarding and instructional roles.

100% attendance is mandatory

Children 7 and under must stay within arms reach of a guardian age 16+.

Children 8+ and older may swim without direct supervision.

Wristbands apply for children under eight and supervising guardians. Schedule changes and pool sharing apply during programs and lessons.
