Dr. David Stoker is a board certified plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic surgery. This book was created to demonstrate what is possible with modern plastic surgery. He has performed thousands of these operations during the past decade in one of the busiest cosmetic surgery practices in Southern California. Dr. Stoker specializes in the procedures included in this book. He has compiled a large number of cases here to give prospective patients an accurate understanding of the results achievable in his hands. Plastic surgery should be highly individualized for a particular patient’s needs. David A. Stoker, MD, FACS is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic surgery. The New York Times chose him as one of the top plastic surgeons in the United States for cosmetic surgery. His practice is in Marina del Rey, California.
David A. Stoker, MD, FACS is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery specializing in cosmetic surgery. He was chosen by The New York Times as one of the top cosmetic plastic surgeons in the nation with special mention of his experience in liposuction, tummy tucks and breast surgery. Dr. Stoker teaches the course on liposuction and body contouring for his colleagues at the annual meetings of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the clinical faculty of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. For his expertise in cosmetic surgery, he has been featured on Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition, the Today show, Dr. Phil, The Learning Channel, Discovery Health, Women’s Entertainment Network and Style Network. Dr. Stoker graduated with honors from Stanford University where he majored in biology and political science. At Stanford he was awarded the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Major Grant for Undergraduate Research. Dr. Stoker studied medicine at the University of California at San Francisco where he graduated at the top of his class and became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school Dr. Stoker was actively involved in plastic surgery research and was awarded a first place prize by the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation.
Dr. Stoker did his residency in General Surgery at the New York University Medical Center combined program in plastic surgery. There he received the British Journal of Surgery Award for the highest score in the department on the National In-Service Training Exam. Dr. Stoker completed his residency in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine. He was trained in plastic surgery by Drs. Joseph McCarthy, Gerald Pitman, Sherrell Aston, Daniel Baker, and the distinguished faculty of the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Dr. Stoker has authored over a dozen publications on state of the art cosmetic surgery. These include prestigious plastic surgery journal articles on cosmetic facial, breast and body contouring procedures. They also include the chapters, “Liposuction and Body Contouring” and “Pure Aspirative Lipoplasty” in two of the premier textbooks on plastic surgery. Dr. Stoker has been nationally recognized for his research in power-assisted liposuction and the anatomy of the facial nerve as it relates to facelifts. Dr. Stoker’s pioneering research with power-assisted liposuction, the safest and most effective lipoplasty method available, contributed to a major advance in the field of body contouring. Dr. Stoker is also one of a handful of surgeons honored by being chosen by two leading breast implant manufacturers to be a clinical investigator for the newest generation of silicone gel breast implants. These cohesive gel implants are form stable and less likely to leak or ripple.

“A Review of 100 Consecutive Secondary Augmentation/ Mastopexies” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2007. Dr. Stoker co-authored this series of 100 secondary breast augmentation and lifts that is the largest study ever published on this type of revision breast surgery. Especially when it comes to difficult revision breast surgery, patients fly in from all over the world to have Dr. Stoker perform their operations. The study documented the characteristics and techniques that led to success in treating a large number of these patients with secondary breast augmentations and lifts.
“Outpatient Reduction Mammaplasty: An Eleven-Year Experience” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2008. This study, co-authored by Dr. Stoker, reviewed 884 breast reductions. It is the largest case series ever published on outpatient breast reductions. The study demonstrated that when breast reduction is performed by an experienced and skilled surgeon, most patients do not require overnight hospitalization.
“Laser-Assisted Breast Reduction: A Safe and Effective Alternative. A Study of 367 patients” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2006.
This study that Dr. Stoker co-authored defined laser breast reductions as a safe and effective option for breast reduction surgery. The laser revolutionized breast reduction surgery by allowing surgeons to use the patients’ own tissue to create more upper breast fullness and a longer lasting lift.
“Clinical Experience with a Fourth-Generation Textured Silicone Gel Breast Implant: A Review of 1012 Mentor Memory Gel Breast Implants” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2008. Dr. Stoker co-authored this study that reviewed over 1000 silicone gel breast implant cases. The study demonstrated that patients with this new generation of silicone gel implants had an even lower complication rate than patients with saline breast implants.

“Pure Aspirative Lipoplasty” in the 2009 textbook Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Stoker co-authored this chapter on liposuction with Dr. Gerald Pitman, Dr. Stoker’s mentor and a world leader in body contouring. This chapter is in the newest plastic surgery textbook, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. It describes liposuction safety and techniques. Dr. Stoker is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country given the honor of writing textbook chapters on liposuction for other plastic surgeons.
“One-Stage Mastopexy with Breast Augmentation: A Review of 321 Patients” in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal, 2007. This series of 321 patients, co-authored by Dr. Stoker, is the largest study ever published on one-stage breast augmentation and lifts. The study showed that when performed by experienced and skilled surgeons, breast augmentation and lifts may be performed together in one operation with excellent outcomes.
“An Integrated Approach to the Repair of Inverted Nipples” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2004.
Dr. Stoker co-authored this article describing an innovative treatment for inverted nipples that maintains nipple sensation for most patients and may be performed under local anesthesia.
Dr. Stoker co-authored this article on a new technique in facial rejuvenation that was a significant advance for minimally invasive facial surgery.
“Does Liposuction Really Add Morbidity To Abdominoplasty? Revisiting the Controversy with a Series of 406 Cases” in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2005. Dr. Stoker co-authored this study demonstrating that liposuction and tummy tucks performed together did not result in increased complications when performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon.

Dr. Stoker co-authored this series of 150 breast lift cases is the largest study ever published on the safety and effectiveness of breast lifts. Dr. Stoker performed most of his breast lifts using a laser, a revolutionary approach that uses the patients’ own tissues to create more upper breast fullness and longer lasting support.

Dr. David Stoker is featured as the plastic surgeon on ABC’s new prime time hit, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. Overweight participants lose half their body weight through diet and exercise under the guidance of superstar trainer Chris Powell. After losing the weight, many of the participants choose Dr. David Stoker to complete their Extreme Makeover with dramatic and medically necessary skin removal surgery. LIPOSUCTION (liposculpture) Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat through small tubes, called cannulas. Liposuction revolutionized plastic surgery by permitting surgeons to shape the body through tiny incisions. Liposculpture is a refined version of liposuction that focuses on sculpting a more ideal figure rather than debulking large deposits of fat. Fat may be removed through standard suction, power-assisted vibration, ultrasound or laser energy. The most important factor in determining results is the surgeon chosen to perform the operation. Dr. David Stoker is a specialist in the field of liposuction and body sculpture. He has co-authored chapters on the topic in the most recent plastic surgery textbooks and has published numerous scientific articles on his clinical experience. This 23-year-old model from Europe wanted to refine her figure, but she said that her face and neck would appear too thin if she were to lose more weight through diet and exercise. Dr. Stoker performed power-assisted liposuction and breast augmentation surgery for her, and she achieved the results she desired. This case, a 30-year-old nurse, nicely demonstrates the efficacy and beauty of the laser breast lift and reduction. Dr. Stoker removed a large portion of her breast tissue to make her breasts smaller. He created an internal laser brassiere which gave her more cleavage (similar to the look of implants). Her result is also a good example of how well the incisions can heal, even in patients with dark skin. These postoperative pictures were taken approximately one month following her surgery. You might notice that the gecko tattoo on her right breast is longer after the surgery. She got the tattoo when she was young, before her breasts were fully developed. As her breasts grew, so did the length of the gecko tattoo. It almost doubled in size. When Dr. Stoker created the laser brassiere for her breast lift, he moved some of her excess breast tissue from the lower breast to the upper cleavage area. Dr. David Stoker is well known for his finesse in nose surgery. He has been featured on Dr. Phil, The Learning Channel, and Modern Beauty television programs for his specialization in rhinoplasty. The nose is a dominant feature on the face and plays an important role in determining overall appearance. The modern nasal surgery techniques Dr. Stoker employs focus on reshaping undesirable features while retaining attractive elements. The goal is to create a natural-appearing nose that enhances facial proportions. Nose surgery is divided into two categories: cosmetic and functional. Examples of cosmetic procedures on the nose include reducing a prominent bump on the bridge or refining a bulbous nasal tip. Cosmetic changes are visible on the outside of the nose. Functional improvements involve opening the nasal airways so that it is easier to breathe. As I recall, the first words I said to you the day following my breast reduction surger y were, “The pain is gone.” You eradicated what had become during the last several years an ever-present and incredibly debilitating problem. I had lost almost 50% of the use of my lef t arm and was living with round the clock pain in my neck, shoulder, arm and hand. It is fif ty-three days since the surger y and I cannot even describe how physically wonder ful I feel. I have full use of my arm, I have no problem sitting or walking, I no longer live on pain medication, and I feel as if I am once again functioning normally. Not to be minimized, of course, is your absolutely wonder ful cosmetic result. At least half a dozen people have told me that I look 10 -15 years younger and I can see my physical image has greatly improved. Several of my friends have wanted detailed explanations of the surger y; a few have even wanted to see exactly what you did. I suspect you will be meeting some of them af ter the new year. But the surger y for me was not about obtaining a better physical look, it was about eliminating a serious and painful problem.
