India: The Medical Manifesto

India is a land of opportunities, and with its ever-growing population, it is on the cusp of becoming the most populous nation in the world. This demographic dividend has the potential to make India the provider of workers and products to the rest of the world. The healthcare and pharmaceutical industry is one such industry that is poised for a unique opportunity. However, to achieve this, India needs to take significant steps to capitalize on this opportunity.

Firstly, India needs to invest in healthcare infrastructure. With a growing population, the demand for healthcare services will also increase. The government needs to focus on building more hospitals, clinics, and primary health centers to cater to the growing demand. It is essential to ensure that these facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and medical equipment to provide world-class healthcare services. Additionally, the government should incentivize private players to invest in the healthcare sector by providing tax benefits and subsidies.

Secondly, India needs to focus on developing its pharmaceutical industry. India has the potential to become a global leader in pharmaceuticals, but to achieve this, it needs to address several challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the lack of funding for research and development. The government needs to invest more in R&D and provide tax incentives to companies that invest in R&D. Additionally, India needs to streamline its drug approval process to make it more efficient and transparent.

Thirdly, India needs to focus on developing its human capital. With a growing population, the demand for skilled workers will also increase. The government needs to focus on developing the education sector to provide high-quality education to its citizens. It is essential to provide vocational training to students to equip them with the necessary skills required for various industries.

Lastly, India needs to promote itself as a global player. The government needs to create a conducive environment for foreign investors to invest in India. It is essential to remove bureaucratic hurdles and streamline the process of doing business in India. Additionally, India needs to promote its healthcare and pharmaceutical industries to attract foreign investments.

Conclusion

Frost suture was designed by Albert Frost in 1934, to support the upper eyelid after ptosis correction to protect cornea post-operatively.1

• It also reduces the risk of ectropion after surgery near the lower eyelid. Downward pull on the lid can occur with normal wound contracture even if ectropion is not present with the initial repair, reinforcing the need for preventive measures.2

• Surgical technique - A 5-0 or 6-0 polypropylene, nylon, or silk suture on a PS3 3/8 circle arc needle is passed through the tarsal plate at or anterior to the grey line or through the pretarsal skin, orbicularis oculi, and tarsus, at mid portion, taking care to remain anterior to the palpebral conjunctiva. Superior aspect of the frost suture can be secured with tape to affix the suture to the upper forehead (Fig.1C) for upward tension or an interrupted suture can be applied to the skin approximately 4 mm superior to the midbrow.2

Potential complications of this technique include superficial skin erosion of the upper lid, corneal abrasion, and blockage of the field of vision while the suture is in place.2
