This report, at a minimum of one double-spaced page, should synthesize the research and preparation undertaken thus far, aligning with five specified questions to demonstrate progress and planning.
Initially, the sources consulted include scholarly articles, art history books, museum archives, and reputable online resources such as JSTOR, Google Scholar, and official museum websites. The research has delved into da Vinci’s biography, his artistic techniques, cultural context, and influence on both Renaissance art and modern science. Notable references include Kenneth Clark's "Leonardo da Vinci" and the Smithsonian Institution's online collection.
Through this research, I have learned that Leonardo da Vinci was not only a master painter but also an inventive scientist, engineer, and anatomist. His notebooks reveal a methodical approach to observation, understanding of human anatomy, and experimental techniques that set him apart as a polymath. Additionally, his artworks, such as the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper," exemplify innovative techniques like sfumato and perspective that revolutionized Renaissance art.
The major concepts planned for inclusion in the project focus on da Vinci’s Renaissance contributions, his pioneering techniques in art (e.g., sfumato, chiaroscuro), and his interdisciplinary pursuits that integrated
art, science, and engineering. These themes will help illustrate the breadth of his influence and innovations across multiple fields.
Currently, I have developed three slides. The first introduces Leonardo da Vinci's biography, the second discusses his major artworks and techniques, and the third outlines his scientific pursuits and innovations. These slides are designed to be visually engaging, supported by images of his paintings and sketches, along with concise bullet points summarizing key ideas.
For the presentation, James and I plan to alternate speaking, with each covering specific aspects of da Vinci’s life and work. This approach ensures a dynamic delivery and allows us to collaboratively demonstrate how his artistic and scientific contributions intertwine, providing a comprehensive overview for the audience.
