This Is For Discussion 1reflecting On Ones Progress Is An Integral
This is for discussion #1. Reflecting on one’s progress is an integral part of becoming a researcher and scholar-practitioner. It is constructive to assess your current research mindset and skills and consider the necessary next steps to enable you to develop your research competencies. It is also valuable to contextualize your research and consider the relationship between your potential research in the IT field and social change. In this Discussion, you will reflect on your current skills compared to your skills at the beginning of the course and also consider the role that social change plays in your future research. To prepare for this Discussion:
- Review the media programs:
- Scholar-Practitioner and Social Change
- Doctoral Research: Advice
- Doctoral Research: Skills
- Reflect on the worldview you articulated at the beginning of the course.
- Reflect on the potential problem statement you are considering for your individual doctoral study.
- Reflect on your current research mindset and skills.
Post a 200- to 400-word response to the following:
- What new learning about the research process has most surprised you?
- What impression or attribute about the research process is different than you imagined it to be prior to taking this course?
- Where are opportunities for improvement to focus on as you continue taking courses in research methods and work toward your doctoral study?
- What new understanding do you have about the relationship between research in information technology and social change? How do you see yourself as a social change agent in the IT field differently than you did at the beginning of the course?
Be sure to include at least two questions that will elicit comments and suggestions from your colleagues. Support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or media segment(s)
Additionally, describe the difference between a nursing practice problem and a medical practice problem. Provide one example of each. Discuss why it is important to ensure your PICOT is based on a nursing practice problem.
Paper For Above instruction
Reflecting on one's progress as a researcher is essential for personal and professional development within the field of information technology (IT). This reflective process allows scholars to evaluate their evolving research mindset, skills, and understanding of the broader societal implications of their work. This paper discusses recent insights gained from coursework, explores the relationship between IT research and social change, and considers opportunities for growth as a future researcher.
Surprising Learnings About the Research Process
One of the most surprising aspects of the research process uncovered during this course is its inherently iterative nature. I initially perceived research as a linear process—starting with a hypothesis, collecting data, and concluding with findings. However, the coursework, particularly the media segments on the scholar-practitioner model and social change, highlighted how research often involves cycles of refinement, re-evaluation, and adaptation. This realization has deepened my appreciation for the flexibility and resilience required to conduct meaningful research (Creswell & Poth, 2018).
Preconceived Notions Versus New Realities
Prior to engaging with this course, I believed that the primary purpose of research was to confirm existing theories or provide definitive answers. My understanding shifted to recognize the importance of exploration and problem-identification, especially how research in IT can influence social systems and foster societal improvements. The course emphasized that research is not solely about obtaining answers but also about understanding complex social dynamics and contributing to social change (Burke Johnson & Christensen, 2014).
Opportunities for Improvement
As I continue my educational journey, I see opportunities to strengthen my methodological skills, particularly in qualitative research methods and data analysis techniques. Developing proficiency in software tools such as NVivo and SPSS will enhance my ability to analyze diverse data sources
effectively. Additionally, improving my ability to craft clear, researchable problem statements will allow me to focus my efforts more precisely and produce impactful findings.
Research in IT and Social Change
My understanding of the relationship between IT research and social change has significantly deepened. I now appreciate that IT innovations—such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity—can be catalysts for social equity or disparities, depending on how they are developed and implemented (Monteiro et al., 2020). Recognizing myself as a potential social change agent in the IT field has shifted my perspective from viewing research as a purely academic pursuit to seeing it as a powerful tool for societal betterment. I believe that effective research can lead to technological solutions that address social issues like digital divide, privacy, and access to technology.
Questions for Colleagues
How can emerging technologies be ethically leveraged to promote equitable social change in IT? What strategies have you found effective in translating research findings into practical social interventions?
Differences Between Nursing and Medical Practice Problems & Importance of PICOT
A nursing practice problem typically focuses on improving patient care outcomes, nursing processes, or health promotion activities specific to nursing practice. In contrast, a medical practice problem usually addresses diagnosis, treatment, or management of diseases from a physician’s perspective.
For example, a nursing practice problem might be: "High rates of hospital-acquired infections among postoperative patients." An example of a medical practice problem could be: "Optimal management of type 2 diabetes in primary care."
Ensuring that a PICOT question is based on a nursing practice problem is crucial because PICOT helps structure research around nursing interventions, patient outcomes, and healthcare processes directly related to nursing roles. This focus enhances the relevance and applicability of findings to nursing practice, ensuring that research efforts effectively contribute to improved patient care and nursing practice standards (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018).
