One of the foremost ethical questions pertains to the definition of natural human variation versus engineered traits. The ability to select for desired characteristics such as intelligence, physical appearance, or even personality traits prompts debates about the morality of shaping human evolution intentionally. Critics argue that such practices may lead to a loss of genetic diversity, which is essential for the resilience of the human species (Savulescu & Kahane, 2009).
