The readings for this week addressed the Grand Canyon University (GCU) dissertation process and the connection of that process to the 10 Strategic Points. In preparation for the assessment that will be administered the first day of live classes, identify one question in the assessment to which you do not know the answer. Seek out the answer to the question in the course reading. Then, post the question, a thorough (words) answer, and the location where you found the answer in the reading materials.
Paper For Above instruction
The purpose of this assignment is to deepen understanding of the GCU dissertation process and its relation to the 10 Strategic Points by engaging directly with the course materials. As part of this activity, students are asked to identify a question from the upcoming assessment that they do not currently know the answer to, locate the answer within the course readings, and then document their inquiry and findings thoroughly. This exercise encourages active engagement and comprehension of key concepts essential for success in the dissertation process.
One question that I encountered in the upcoming assessment, which I did not initially know the answer to, is: "What are the specific components of a GCU dissertation proposal?" This question is fundamental because the dissertation proposal serves as the blueprint for the research project and must align with both university guidelines and strategic points to ensure a successful defense and subsequent research phases. Through the readings, particularly the GCU Dissertation Handbook (Grand Canyon University, 2023), I learned that the dissertation proposal typically comprises several key components: an introduction, a problem statement, a purpose statement, research questions or hypotheses, a literature review, a methodology section, and a timeline. The introduction outlines the background and significance of the research, while the problem statement clearly articulates the issue the study intends to address. The purpose statement defines the objectives and scope of the research.
The research questions or hypotheses guide the methodology, which describes the research design, sampling procedures, data collection methods, and analysis plan. The literature review contextualizes the study within current academic conversations, supporting the need for this research. Lastly, the proposal includes a timeline that maps out milestones and deadlines, ensuring the project remains on track (Grand Canyon University, 2023).

Furthermore, the relevance of this component aligns with the 10 Strategic Points, especially points related to strategic planning, quality assurance, and research integrity, because a well-constructed proposal anchors the entire dissertation process within these strategic frameworks. It ensures that the research is targeted, feasible, and aligned with institutional goals, promoting academic rigor and contribution to the field.
In conclusion, understanding the essential components of a GCU dissertation proposal is critical for navigating the academic process successfully. Knowing what to include and how it connects to the broader strategic points helps in preparing a comprehensive and compelling proposal, ultimately facilitating a smooth dissertation journey.
