The Purpose Of This Assignment Is To Haveyou Perform A Critique Of Th The purpose of this assignment is to have you perform a critique of the way gender operates/is communicated/is enforced in an event that is happening in our lives. Pick something CONTEMPORARY from the newspaper, TV, or social media and make an argument about what type of gendered communication is occurring in the “story.” Use the book to support your claims about that which you are analyzing. Explain your position by backing up your claims with scholarly evidence and use articles from the BCC library (2 scholarly articles). The goal is to convince the reader to adopt your perspective about the gendered communication. What is this “story” telling us about the larger discourses surrounding power, gender, race, class, ability, etc? For this assignment you will be evaluated on your writing skills, your attention to persuasive appeals, and your use of evidence (focusing on particular parts of the “story” and relating them back to the theory from the book and external articles). This assignment should contain an introduction, body, conclusion, a cover page and reference page all in APA, and will combine knowledge of all concepts discussed this semester.

Paper For Above instruction In contemporary society, media portrayals and public discourse often reinforce or challenge existing gender norms and stereotypes. A recent example that vividly demonstrates how gender operates and is communicated is a viral social media campaign promoting athletic wear, which features women athletes in highly sexualized poses, emphasizing their physical attributes over their athletic achievements. This story exemplifies how gendered communication perpetuates the objectification of women and reinforces traditional gender roles that associate femininity with beauty and sexuality, rather than competence or achievement (Gill, 2007). Through analyzing this case, we can explore how such media narratives maintain discourses surrounding power, gender, and societal expectations, shaping perceptions of gendered identities and behaviors. The media campaign in question reproduces objectifying representations of women, aligning with the broader societal discourse that valorizes female physical appearance over skills or accomplishments (Foucault, 1978). This form of gendered communication constructs women as objects for visual consumption, reinforcing patriarchal power structures that subordinate women by reducing them to their sexuality. Such portrayals are often underpinned by the hegemonic masculinity discourse, which privileges male dominance and control while positioning women as subordinate (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005).
