Paper For Above instruction The Milky Way Galaxy is a vast, barred spiral galaxy that is home to our solar system and billions of other stars and celestial objects. Its formation and evolution span over billions of years, reflecting complex processes in cosmic history. In this paper, I will present a chronological timeline of the development of the Milky Way, outlining its main components at various stages. Formation of the Milky Way (13.6 billion years ago): The origin of the Milky Way dates back to the early universe, roughly 13.6 billion years ago, shortly after the Big Bang (Bland-Hawthorn & Gerhard, 2016). During this epoch, primordial gas collapsed under gravity to form the first structures, leading to the formation of Population III stars, some of the earliest celestial bodies in existence (Tumlinson, 2010). These initial stars contributed to enriching the surrounding gas with heavier elements through supernova explosions, setting the stage for subsequent galaxy formation. Initial galaxy formation (around 13 billion years ago): The Milky Way began as small protogalactic fragments that merged over time, driven by gravitational attraction (Naab & Ostriker, 2017). These fragments coalesced into larger systems through hierarchical merging, a fundamental characteristic of galaxy formation in the universe. During this period, the galaxy's dark matter halo was also forming, providing the gravitational scaffolding for baryonic matter (Bullock & Johnston, 2005). Formation of the stellar disk (about 10-12 billion years ago): As the galaxy continued to evolve, gas within the merging protogalaxies settled into a rotating disk, giving rise to the first generations of stars in the disk component (Brook et al., 2012). This epoch marks the beginning of the Milky Way's prominent spiral structure. The oldest stars in the halo also formed around this time, populating the galaxy's extended, spherical component.
