The Environmental Movement COURSE PROJECT PROPOSAL: THE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT 3 The Environmental Movement Student’s Name: John Blair Institutional Affiliation: Rasmussen College Course Project Proposal I have chosen The Environmental Movement; it is a social movement that addresses environmental problems. It consists of various groups, both large national groups and small ones, with the aim of conserving and reclaiming the environment. I chose this movement particularly because I am a nature lover and I hate to see how fast we are causing its deterioration. As we continue to progress in terms of population, economy, transport, energy consumption, and urbanization, we are not only affecting ourselves but also the plants and wildlife. Our forest cover continues to lessen as our rivers dry up, to mention just a few of the changes we are experiencing from environmental degradation. Also, this movement, unlike others, affects us all hence needs to be taken very seriously. Though there is no precise date for the origin of the environmental movement, May 28th, 1982, is often cited, when the Sierra Club, the first environmental group, gathered to discuss the cause. Since then, many more groups have emerged, shaping a powerful movement in America. As public awareness about the environment grows, individuals are increasingly taking responsibility for how they treat their surroundings. The environmental movement seeks to educate the public on how to utilize resources responsibly without exploiting them, and to appreciate nature’s beauty without destruction. In my research, I aim to understand the extent of environmental destruction, the measures being implemented to conserve and restore the environment, and the role of government in these efforts. I cannot overstate the importance of the environmental movement; urgent action is necessary to save our planet, and everyone must contribute to achieving its goals. I will be consulting scholarly journals such as Agnone (2007), Germano (2017), and Park (2016) for my research sources.
