After completing your interview and your response paper, you will write a 4-5 page paper about this interview. This essay should not be a transcript of the interview, but an organized essay that includes elements from the interviewee and his/her media sample. In particular, attempt to account for some of the following: What is the interviewee’s audience? Are you the intended audience? Does this person use media for a particular purpose?
What does he/she hope to accomplish? Consider incorporating ideas from some of the essays we have read. What role does writing play in this person’s work? What do you hope to add to their work by writing about it? What media (besides writing) can you incorporate into your essay to give a fuller, more developed picture of this person and his/her work?
Why did you choose to interview this person? What did you expect to learn, and what did you really learn? They may not be the same. Has this person altered your perception of any particular issue, talent, discipline, or career? Will you keep in touch with this person? Do you hope to encounter his/her work again?
You have a lot of information to incorporate for this essay. The challenge here is to present everything you have learned in as coherent and organized way as possible (synthesis). Perhaps look to the Fresh Voices essays for models. This kind of paper has the potential to be incredibly dry – work to avoid that trap. If you are bored writing it, your audience will be bored reading it.
Include the following when submitting the final draft of the assignment to PolyLearn: • Clean draft with a works cited page (not included in length requirement). • Works Cited Page with an entry for the personal interview and an entry for the specific media analyzed: i.e., photo, web site, song, poem, et cetera. You must use in-text parenthetical citations and a corresponding works cited page for all borrowed material used in your paper. • Typed interview questions & interviewee responses (transcript). Your essay must be submitted in both Docx and Adobe PDF.
Paper For Above instruction
The process of conducting an interview and writing a reflective response provided a valuable opportunity to explore the intricate relationship between media, individual expression, and audience engagement. For this project, I chose to interview Ms. Laura Bennett, a prominent visual artist whose work has gained
recognition on multiple social media platforms. My primary goal was to understand her motivations, the intended audience for her work, and the role that media plays in shaping her artistic identity. This essay synthesizes my insights from the interview, along with an analysis of her media sample, to present a comprehensive picture of her artistic journey and intentions.
Laura Bennett's audience primarily consists of young adults and art enthusiasts aged 18-35 who seek inspiration and a deeper understanding of contemporary visual culture. She uses platforms like Instagram and TikTok to share her process, finished artworks, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, aiming to demystify art creation and make it accessible to her followers. As an observer and an aspiring artist, I recognized that I am part of her intended audience, which made the interview especially engaging and relevant for my understanding of her work's purpose.
During our conversation, Bennett expressed her hope to inspire others to pursue art without the fear of imperfection. She uses media deliberately to connect with her audience, emphasizing authenticity and process over polished results. Her use of social media is not just promotional but educational; she aims to provide value by sharing tips, techniques, and the stories behind her creations. This approach aligns with the ideas presented in writings by McLuhan (1964), who argued that media extend human perception and facilitate new forms of interaction. Bennett's media use exemplifies this, as it creates a virtual community around her art, fostering dialogue and shared learning.
Writing plays a significant role in her work, although her primary medium is visual. She maintains a blog where she discusses artistic struggles, successes, and the importance of perseverance. Her written reflections deepen her connection to her audience, as they offer insights into her creative process and personal philosophy. By writing about her work, she helps demystify artistic creation and encourages others to see art as accessible and transformational. I hope to add to her work by providing a thoughtful analysis of her media approach and how it influences my perception of digital artistry.
Beyond writing, I noticed Bennett employs video content and live-streaming to further engage her audience. These media forms allow real-time interaction, adding immediacy and intimacy to her communication. Incorporating these observations, I aim to present a fuller picture of her multi-modal approach to art dissemination and her dedication to fostering community through various media channels.
My choice to interview Ms. Bennett stemmed from a fascination with how artists leverage social media to build careers and community. I expected to learn about her artistic process and how she uses media to
reach her audience. What I truly learned was the extent to which media has become intertwined with her identity as an artist and her mission to inspire others. The interview shifted my perception of digital art, recognizing its power to democratize access and foster genuine human connections beyond traditional galleries.
This experience has heightened my appreciation for the strategic use of media in the creative industries. I now see social media not merely as a promotional tool but as an integral part of artistic expression and community-building. I plan to keep in touch with Ms. Bennett through social media and follow her future projects, which I find inspiring for both personal growth and academic exploration. I also hope to encounter her work again, perhaps in a gallery or collaborative project, as her approach exemplifies the evolving landscape of contemporary art.
In conclusion, interviewing Ms. Laura Bennett provided a nuanced understanding of how media shapes artistic practice and audience engagement. Her deliberate use of social media and written reflections demonstrate a thoughtful integration of multiple modes of communication. This experience has enriched my view of the digital age’s impact on artistic careers, emphasizing the importance of authenticity, community, and strategic media use in building a meaningful artistic presence.
