ashion is thinking pink, no matter how or where you wear the color, pink has always will always be a statement.

Pantone announced its 2019 color of the year and it's "Living Coral."The reign of Millennial Pink–that literally and figuratively cool hue whose blue undertones flattered no one–seems to be coming to an end at last. In its place? We have Living Coral. It’s Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2019, following the company’s annual, wide-ranging analysis of color trends across culture. Living Coral is comforting and energizing at the same time, a color meant to serve as a salve in a time of global uncertainty. Living Coral is also a very functional color that bridges the gap between our screens and real life.

The mindset for Spring/Summer 2019 reflects our desire to face the future with empowering colors that provide confidence and spirit; colors that are uplifting; joyful hues that lend themselves to playful expressionism and take us down a path of creative and unexpected combinations. This season’s report features the return of retro, as well as current takes on the four classic neutrals. Following

the trendy activism-inspired "ultra violet" champion, this year's reigning color, millennial pink or "Living Coral," is described as representative of both our changing social media-drenched environment and our physical one.

On one hand, the color is described as signifying a need for support, caring, and love within an often negative social media landscape.

"Living Coral' embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment," reads the optimistic statement.

In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy."

On the other hand, with humaninduced climate change a rather hot global topic, especially its potentially devastating effects on coral reefs, it's a fitting time for the color. "Living Coral emits the desired, familiar, and energizing aspects of color found in nature," reads Pantone's statement. Lying at the center of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Pantone Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter

to a diverse kaleidoscope of color. Yes, it’s a stunning color, often found in coral reefs. But with reefs threatened by ocean acidification and coral bleaching caused by human-induced climate change, their colorful existence is set to transform. When marine scientists intentionally pumped carbon dioxide-infused seawater across a patch of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to show just how screwed coral reefs really are, what color appeared in the water? I think we all know the answer to that one.

Bringing together high fashion and street style, the mindset for Spring/Summer 2019 transcends seasonality for both men’s and women’s fashion. Vibrant without being overpowering, highlighted shades illustrate our desire for authenticity and our continued need for creativity and relatable, accessible design. The spring/summer 2019 catwalks saw several retro trends re-emerge. There were tie-dye cycling shorts and shoulder-padded power suits, but the one eighties trend that there really was no escaping from was neon. If you are dreading the return of the grey winter weather, then the catwalks of New York Fashion Week are here to offer the perfect antidote: neon hues to brighten up your wardrobe.

Proving that the trend is going to be sticking around for quite some time. Prepare to embrace highlighter dressing next spring. Fluorescent shades have already hit the fashion scene this year, hitting micro-trend status earlier this year largely thanks to the Kardashians. But those of us who thought the in-your-face look was nothing more than a passing Instagram trend is about to be proven wrong. The catwalks of New York, London, Milan and Paris confidently championed lime green, blinding yellow, extra hot pink and flame orange.

Go for maxi dresses. They are fun and they are easy. We don’t need to put in our heads for a lot of pairing as they can be just worn and we’ll be ready for the day. They are flowy so they don’t stick to our silhouette and since they are light, they don’t feel heavy on our bodies Giving hopes in your eyes regarding your favourite denim jeans, it wouldn’t be wise of me to not tell you what you can pair it with. So since the denim is going to be quite fitted from our waist, we go for simple cotton t-shirts to wear it with them. They look statement as well as super casual and comfortable.

Now you can’t wear black – but you can wear white. White is ‘the’ summer colour and we must exploit this colour to the fullest. White helps us remain cooler and it looks super cute when styled properly.

Pastel shades are also a lot fun and they make the outfit look very light and breezy.

Invest in some nice cottons, linens and even chambrays. Chambrays are a lot lighter than denim and are perfect for summers.

ONT'S

Do not. I repeat. Do not leave your house without the sunscreen on.

It’s very important if you really value your skin and want to protect it from the sun.

Don’t go for fabrics through which air can’t pass. Cottons are perfect for this season while fabrics like velvet, polyester make you feel itchy and uncomfortable.

Don’t go for dark colours because they absorb heat and end up making us feel even hotter than it actually is. Blacks are a no-no and why do we even need to wear black, let’s exploit the summer colours in the summer season.

Refrain yourself from getting too much into denims because they are on the heavier side. They might make you feel tired and irritated. I know we can’t let go of our staple blue jeans but we can sure try to avoid it and wear it only when we miss it too much. Denim jackets are also heavy but we can wear them if we pair them wisely.

Consumers are more interested in what foods they can eat that help facilitate the body’s natural detox process. Collagen supplements are the in thing. More consumers now prefer pasture-raised meat. Organic is the way to go. The trendy solution to eating more vegetables is adding more antioxidant rich vegetables into your food; swap-out typical noodles for organic veggie noodles, snack on raw veggies and add fruits to smoothies.Green tea is now looked upon as fast track to provide a brain boost and burst toxins from your body. They spike metabolism and add virtually no calories.

f 2018 beauty was all about excess, then make up for 2019 will be a lesson in going back to basics. This year, with inspiration from both the runways and pros from the famous makeup artist Ricky Wilson, very distinct looks ransacked our Instagram feeds and Pinterest boards.First, we got ample use out of our liquid liner by trying an abundance of graphic colorful eyeliner looks, the best way to pull this off is by tracing it with a powder brow pencil first and then covering with the liquid liner.Sunset-colored eyelids—a look that embodies dimension and smolders.

Wilson also mentions that “Before I start building it, I like to create a wash of smudged eyeliner along the lash base covering the lid.

Then I cover the liner with different shades of orange, gold, copper, and rust. The goal is to look undone.”And finally, who could forget the K-beauty-inspired mirror (or glass) skin trend that inspired us to cut back on the foundation and instead mix a small dollop with glow serums? In other words, we wanted dewy skin by any means necessary.

Matte Skin

Well, that’s a done deal in 2019. Instead, expect matte skin to make a comeback, by damping the brush and applying the formula; starting in the center of the face and working your way out.

Color-Blocked Eyes

As far as the eyes are concerned, expect a more subdued version of the graphic liner trend. Instead of using liner to create interesting shapes, a shadow will be used.

And instead of darker, bolder hues, it’ll be more pastel and candy-colored variations.

3. 3-D LipsThough we doubt lip plumpers are going anywhere, makeup artists will be using color instead to create the illusion of a bigger pout. Not quite an ombre but creating volume on the bottom lip has become an emerging trend. “Using a color that is lighter and frosted on the bottom lip to give a plumping effect then covering it with a transparent colored gloss,� says Wilson.

Glitter, Gloss, And Shimmer Glitter hasn't go of its grasp on beauty just yet and showed up in eye make-up at Simone Rocha and Missoni, as well as coating the hair (six months on from last season's full-face glitter looks). Blush-toned make-up complemented by sweeping half-up-half-down hairstyles and elegant ballerina buns - spring/summer 2019's beauty looks also had their romantic side Gucci Westman's radiant make-up look and ultra-pretty hairstyles combined to create a princess-worthy look, whilst the pink-toned make-up at Giorgio Armani and the trend of bow-adorned hair at rocked the stage and had a similarly ultra-feminine feel.

IRIS APFEL SHARES HER SECRET OF STYLE: “Attitude, Attitude, Attitude”

“YOU CAN’T LEARN STYLE. STYLE, I THINK, IS IN YOUR DNA. IT’S SOMETHING INHERENT.” How many times a day do you change your clothes?

The world has never seen photos of you looking anything but fabulous?

Well, most people don’t want to see you looking grungy… I never look grungy, I always look clean! But even when I’m all dressed up, I like to be comfortable. If I’m not comfortable, I don’t want to wear it. I don’t pay attention to trends or anything. I was never one to hobble around in shoes because they were fashionable.

So getting dressed never feels like work to you?

Oh, my God, no, if it felt like work, I wouldn’t do it! If it felt like work, I wou ldn’t get dressed up! People think maybe I just live to get dressed, which is ridiculous. I normally wear some old jeans and a sweater or something like that where I feel comfortable.

Do you think of clothing as a kind of armor?

Well, I suppose it is for some people, but I don’t I am not a fashionista, and I don’t dress up. know that I have anything to fight against, or Usually if I’m at home, where I am now, I’m anything to protect myself from. I’m like a blank wearing a robe. Most of the time, if I’m working canvas: it’s kind of my way of being an artist. or just running around, I work in jeans. I really don’t dress up unless it’s some special occasion.

I love fashion, I think it’s wonderful, but it’s not my life. I think in the film they show I have various other roles that are more important.

Are there any items in your jewelry collection that are too precious or valuable to wear?

Of course, but I have a very odd collection: it goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. I have some very important, valuable things, and I have some junk, and I like to mix them all together. I’m constantly buying jewelry—I love it, I love it, I love it! I mean, I could be an octopus and have ten heads and I couldn’t wear it all.

Do you feel your sense of style has gotten better over the years, or just changed?

Well, I hope it’s gotten better! I don’t think it’s gotten worse. As you age, everything changes a bit, but it’s basically the same. I still wear the dress that I wore on my first date with my husband and that was 68 years ago. I get a lot of mileage out of my clothes.

Ms. Apfel, do you need to be fearless to be fashionable?

I never think of things like that, but I guess maybe you do. But why should I worry? The fashion police are not going to come and put me in jail! I love bright colors, but I never did anything that I did to be a rebel… I just did it because I thought it was fun and it was good for me. And as long as I didn’t offend my mother or my husband, what anybody else thinks is their problem, not mine!

Have you always had a passion for color?

I’m not a pastel person! Pastels make me nervous. I could never be like my mother because she never had a hair out of place! She got up in the morning and she looked like she just stepped out of a Chicago Coin band box. She was perfect all the time. And I’m not like that. Everybody would turn around to look at her but in a completely different way to me.

My mother was much more disciplined in that fashion than I am. I just go with the flow!

What is top of your bucket list?

I would love to go to India. I will probably never get there now, but I dream about it.

Yatagan by Caron. My husband and I both wore it; perfume is never the same on two people.

Smart Home Technology Anyone with a smart phone or voiceactivated speaker, like Amazon Echo or Google Home, knows the convenience of home features that can be controlled via a simple swipe, utterance or in-home video panel. Not only are these features convenient, but many — including lighting and heating/ cooling control— can reap real rewards on monthly utility bills. For architects, the challenge becomes creating spaces to house any mechanicals and the necessary wiring that goes along with them.



Sustainability According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), buildings consume nearly half of all energy produced in the United States and are responsible for nearly half of the CO2 emissions. It's no surprise the trend is towards creating more energy-efficient buildings, but also to develop homes that use, and leak, less energy. The pinnacle of this type of design is a net-zero home that literally has no net energy consumption. This is achieved by not only reducing energy consumption, but by adding energy creation on the site, typically in the form of solar panels. Even if net-zero is too lofty a goal, architects are urged to implement as many sustainable features as possible including well-sealed building envelopes, efficient insulation, multi-pane windows and energy efficient appliances and systems.

For architects, that can mean creating spaces that are easily divided or expanded with pocket or barn doors.

ndoor-Outdoor Living While our earliest domiciles aimed to provide as much protection from the elements as possible, today's architecture embraces indoor-outdoor living. That means creating rooms that effortlessly open to the outdoors with NanaWall glass door systems, and maximizing outdoor space, even if that means heading to the roof.

In fact, according to the American Institute of Architects 2018 Home Design Trends Survey, outdoor living space (up 20 percent) and roof decks (up 125 percent) were the two fastest-growing in-demand home features.

Off-grid homes become popular-

Housing multiple generations of one's family under one roof was commonplace before the middle of the last century, but after WWII, singlefamily homes became more popular, spurred by the post-war boom and desire to achieve the "American Dream." Today, people are living much longer which has created a so-called "sandwich generation" that's both caring for young children and older parents. Therefore, the demand for housing with features that cater to multi-gen living is growing. According to the AIA survey, the most popular features include first-floor master suites, elevators and laundry facilities on multiple levels.

The increasingly levels of technology in our lives is leading many people to seek a less complex life and either live, or holiday, in off-grid homes.

Forensic Architecture wins awardsIn 2018, the architecture profession focused on wider issues impacting the world, which was embodied by the work of UK-based investigative agency Forensic Architecture.

The research group created a 3D video of Grenfell Tower fire and showed the public its work at an exhibition at the ICA in London.

A nomination for the Turner Prize, the UK's biggest art prize followed, along with the researchers winning the Design of the Year award for 2018.

3D-printed buildings finally here After a long build-up, buildings are now being 3D printed. In Milan CLS Architetti and Arup used a portable robot to 3D print a house, while the US military used 3D printing to build a concrete barracks. Other 3D-printed projects include a garden pavilion alongside a house in China and a bridge 3D printed from metal, which was unveiled at Dutch Design Week.

An off-grid home alongside a loch was named RIBA House of the Year 2018, while a prefabricated home with a micro-farming wall was showcased at the United Nations Headquarters and Slovakian firm Nice Architects created a ggg-shaped micro home for off-griders.

Spy museums opening everywhere The year saw spy museums open in New York and and the Alps. In America David Adjaye completed the Spyscape museum of espionage, while at the precipice of a mountain in Sölden, Austria, Johann Obermoser's cantilevered museum dedicated to James Bond opened to the public.

For those interested in even more espionage, the Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partnersdesigned International Spy Museum in Washington DC is scheduled to open next year.

Instagram is proving a tantalising window into the possibilities of 'nomadic sabbaticals', as demonstrated by the likes of @thebucketlisfamily, @byjetpack ACCOMMODATION: HOMEWARE HOTELS A number of homeware companies are opening their own hotels – it’s a smart move as guests will be able to buy many of the products they see inside. MADE.com kickstarted the trend - it launched its first MADE hotel in Manhattan’s NoMad district two years ago, followed by floating boutique hotel the Boathouse in London in summer 2018.

Groups of friends and family have been clubbing together to rent holiday villas and chalets for a while now, but in 2019 a new luxury alternative will come in the form of Beyond by Airbnb, which curates high-end homes and 'custom experiences'.

An additional layer of exclusivity comes from Stay One Degree, which describes itself as the 'first social network for luxury vacation rentals', only letting people who are vetted members stay in each other’s homes, be it a seven-bedroom castle in Kent or a six-bedroom beach pad in Costa Rica.

A good pair of trainers has always been a suitcase essential but their carbon footprint is significant – it’s been reported that just one pair of running shoes can generate 13kg of carbon dioxide in the production of the plastics, synthetic rubber and nylon they require. While it certainly doesn’t compare to the harmful emissions from flying, travellers can leave a little bit less of an impact by choosing ethically made footwear. T

SOLO TRAVEL: CO-LIVING Travelling alone can be lonely when you’re not a student backpacker as hotels aren’t the easiest places to make friends, hostels can be a little rough around the edges and Airbnbs can be isolating as guests often find themselves in residential neighbourhoods rather than city centres. The solution is co-living – essentially a form of modern commune for young professionals – which is generating a following both among locals and out-of-towners.

One of the co-living leaders, WeLive (sister company to WeWork), now has apartment complexes with trendy shared social spaces, events programmes, yogaclasses and even hot tubs in New York and Crystal City.

SPA: CBD TREATMENTS Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound derived from marijuana plants, is becoming wildly popular for its perceived medicinal and healing powers.

And as green becomes legalised in evermore countries – in autumn 2018 Canada legalised the recreational use of cannabis, while about a dozen American states have done the same (since November 2018).

ECO: ZERO LEFTOVERS Did you know that the UK throws away £20billion worth of food every year? Zero- and low-waste restaurants such as Silo in Brighton and Cub in London have been doing their part to reduce this, but there are signs the approach is now entering the mainstream.

For anyone slightly appalled by the sight of a lavish hotel buffet and how much must go in the bin as a consequence, it’s great news that Marriott International, for example, wants to cut food waste by 50 per cent by 2025.

TRANSPORT: BIOMETRIC AIRPORTS Thanks to recent iPhone models, most consumers are familiar with using fingerprint and facial recognition to bypass entering passwords. It won’t be long until this kind of technology will be commonly employed to bypass queues at check-in, boarding and immigration, replacing laborious manual checks of boarding passes and passports. For the last year or so, British Airways has been trialling biometric gates at American airports including Orlando, New York and Miami, and in 2019, London Heathrow will debut 'the world’s largest deployment of biometrically enabled products including bag drops and self-boarding gates' at a cost of £50million.

Prabhakar Pachpute Heavily influenced by the emerging coal mines around the village of his childhood, Pachpute works with various media including paper pulp, terracotta, ceramic, fibre glass, and charcoal. His renditions in charcoal show deep thought into the influences of industrialisation, especially in rural areas.

2. Gipin Varghese Gipin's works are about various events that affect humans, especially in the non-urban context. One can see influences of Indian folk art traditions in his works. Watercolours are his forte.
