Southeast Minnesota summer camp celebrates 20 years of mingling arts, agriculture

Flourish Summer Camp in Wykoff, Minnesota is a unique program that offers a week-long immersion in performance art and agriculture for area youth. Coming up on its 20th season, registration is now open for Flourish 2025, held July 27Aug. 3 at the DreamAcres Farm near Wykoff. Flourish is open to all youth ages 11-15. The camp brings a small, diverse group of professional performing artists together with campers to inventively “stage” camper ideas. Campers will practice their skills and rehearse their visions for a final performance – a performance that could be in the trees or in the creek. Much time will be spent in the woods and the garden, and mentors will encourage campers to embrace each space as a potential story.

Campers will spend a week on the DreamAcres Farm – once a CSA and now a wood-fired pizza farm and off-the-grid land collective. Campers will experience firsthand the benefits and challenges of relying exclusively on wood/solar power and al-

ternative water systems. DreamAcres also boasts the first off-the-grid certified kitchen in Minnesota.

Camp Co-Director Eva Barr is a theatre artist and founder of Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company. The Flourish program began in August 2003 and has matured into a creative community with the participation of many Minnesota artists, puppeteers, dancers, musicians and storytellers. The camp has evolved to incorporate design and culinary arts in addition to the performance techniques taught by staff members. While the number of campers has not grown, the ideal number is about 16. Campers are urged to apply early as applicants are accepted on a first-come, firstserved basis. Scholarships are available. Native American applicants attend free of charge. For more information and to register, visit www.dreamacresfarm.org under the “Summer Camp” tab.

DreamAcres is located at 17289 County Road 8, Wykoff.
