Neighborhood battle won by Vikes
In a slower than normal end to the week, the Decorah softball team (58, 2-4 NEIC) defeated Crestwood (9-6, 2-3 NEIC) on the road Friday night, 3-0. It was a pitcher’s duel between the Viking sophomore Clara Hjelle and Cadet freshman Ainsley Teeling through the first three frames. Katherine Pattison and Tweten in the fifth on a single to put Decorah up 3-0. Ava Steine connected for a hit in the sixth but that would be it for either team down the stretch as the Vikings closed out the game with three up, three down in the sixth and seventh. Hjelle earned the win in the circle, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out eight. Decorah had six hits in the contest including Luzum’s home run and a single. Others producing singles were Tweten, Thompson, Lillian Olson and Steine.
