Vikes rule Decorah Relays SW fifth, TV eighth

In the first of two scheduled home meets, the Decorah girls’ track team hosted an eight-team invite Friday night, a day later than scheduled due to snow. The Vikings controlled the meet, winning with 151 points. Crestwood was a distant second with 107 points. South Winn finished fifth with 72 while Turkey Valley posted 19 points, good for eighth. Running away The Vikings took gold in seven events. Audrey Essa was the winner in the 100-meter dash, going the length of the track in 12.86 seconds. Brinlee Courtney circumference the track twice in 2:41.34 to win the 800-meter run and Amelia Roe broke the tape in the 1500-meter run in 5:11.53. In the 100-meter hurdles it was Renae Wilson winning gold in 16.42 seconds. The 4x200 relay posted a time of 1:48.49. The quartet was Essa, Ava Holthaus, Kelby Kerndt and Stella Pole. Breaking the tape in the 4x400 relay in 4:18.44 were McKenzie Riley, Essa, Lillian Olson and Jerikah Dodd. In the 4x800 it was Lily Sandhorst, Roe, Courtney and Lauren Holthaus teaming up for a winning time of 10:24.62. ing the track in 1:04.93. In the 3000-meter run it was Natalie Stevens crossing the finish line in 12:28.53, good for second. The sprint medley quartet of Olson, Ava Holthaus, Riley and Pole posted a time of 1:57.11 for silver. Taking third for the Vikes were Annaleissa Arnold in the discus (104’3”), Hayley Stowe in the 100-meter dash (13.78), Claire Storhoff in the 200-meter dash (29.02), Sandhorst in the 1500-meter run (5:25.66), Deborah Hougen in the 3000-meter run (12:51.63) and Lauren Holthaus in the 400-meter hurdles (1:17.31). SW notables South Winn had a fine effort for its team, garnering one gold, two silvers and five bronze. “It was good to get a meet under our belt. We were glad Decorah decided to move the meet to Friday so we could have it as we had lost our first two meets,” said SW Coach Kevin Kearney. “We are not 100 percent right now with some injury and illness, but I really liked what I saw. We had a lot of kids step up with some great performances and had some kids make some nice jumps for us. Hopefully we can get everyone healthy and back in action. Earning bronze for the Warriors were Alyssa Holthaus in the high jump (4’8”), Annie Hageman in the 800-meter run (2:43.01), the 4x100 relay of Katie Shimek, Josie Tollefsrud, Allison Hageman and Zweibohmer (54.71), the 4x200 relay of Shimek, Josie Tieskoetter, All. Hageman and Zweibohmer (1:55.29) and the 4x800 relay of Izzy Kuboushek, Franzen, Karissa Wenthold and Lauren Ondrashek (11:21.12). Good efforts by TV The Trojan squad had a pair of top-three performances highlighted by the runner-up finish in the distance medley relay. The quartet of Jenna Throndson, Kinsey Reicks, Hazel Nieman and Bella Stika posted a time of 4:46.30 for second. In the 4x400 it was Reicks, Nieman, Makinley Lutgen and Stika combining for a time of 4:51.46 to earn bronze.
