No Paid Leave, Limited-Term Childcare Programs While the issue of paid leave and childcare do not directly affect the solar market, providing greater income security to American households would also boost their ability to afford going solar. Originally, the BBB promised guaranteed paid leave for new parents or those who became seriously ill.

This provision has been dropped.

Additionally, the funding for child tax credits, government childcare, and extended pre-K education have all been limited to just a few years. Goodbye to Dirty Energy Dependence Fines The first version of the BBB contained many punitive measures for the dirty energy industry, including fines for utility companies that continued prioritizing dirty energy production. These were to be balanced by clean energy payments that would go to companies who shifted their dependence to clean sources. However, both propositions have been removed.

Discarding these measures will reduce the incentive for utility companies to transition to solar and other clean energy infrastructure. This will result in fewer opportunities for utility-scale projects.

Carbon Taxes Nowhere in Sight There was also a plan to introduce carbon taxes for entities that emit a high amount of greenhouse gases. Unfortunately, this never materialized and is not part of the BBB.

This means that industrial and commercial properties will also have less incentive to adopt solar. Contractors will see fewer leads in these sectors than they could have expected were carbon taxes actually incorporated.
