Tampa International Airport Year | 2020 Location | Tampa, FL The Tampa International Airport Main Terminal Curbside Expansion Program was a 150,000 square foot expansion of curbside entrances, a new central utility plant and vertical circulation buildings for the red and blue sides of the airport.

As an associate architect, I handled the development of the construction documents of the new central utility plant, red side vertical circulation building, and new APM station. In addition, I handled construction administration on the blue side and central utility plant of the project.

The modernization of the Tampa International Airport entailed various intriguing design aspects. A stepped ceiling greets passengers at the new curbside departure levels, a monumental stair ushers passengers between the various levels of the main terminal, and a grand central utility plant demonstrates that a power plant can be truly captivating.

Home2 Suites Year | 2018 Location | Wayne Township, NJ The Home2 Suites project was a 70,166 square foot, 4 story hotel with 120 guestrooms.

As the project designer, I handled design development through construction documents. Throughout the process, I coordinated with our consultants to deliver the project on time and within budget to the client.

An interesting component to this project entailed the ‘L’ shaped layout and multiple materials found on the facade, such as Trespa panels, Dri-Design panels, Hardie cement board, full size brick, and EIFs. The multitude of materials required extensive detailing in the construction document set.

Homestead Country Club Year | 2018 Location | Prairie Village, KS The Homestead Country Club was a 18,373 square foot renovation and addition to an existing tennis club.

As this project progressed through construction documents, I was brought on to assist in its production as a project designer and oversee the other designer working on it. At weekly meetings, I laid out tasks to be completed and continually checked in with my colleague to make sure we were on track for completion of the construction documents.

An interesting aspect to this project entailed conducting scope trips to document the existing building we were renovating and adding an addition to. During the scope trip, I photographed the existing conditions and conducted measurements along with making sure our work did not interfere with the guests of the tennis club.

WoodSpring Suites Year | 2017 Location | Richland, WA The WoodSpring Suites was a 49,776 square foot, 4 story hotel with 122 guestrooms.

As the project designer on this extended-stay hotel, I handled construction documents and permitting. The project entailed continual coordination with our consultants and later communication with the reviewer of the jurisdiction to facilitate a smooth permitting process.

An interesting component to this building consisted of the nonprototypical nature of the design.

WoodSpring Suites are constructed throughout the U.S. with a standard design and color scheme. This particular project had an unique butterfly roof and front canopy along with a non-prototypical color scheme.

This led to extensive detailing in the construction documents to realize the intention of the design.

Fishtech Pavilion Year | 2018 Location | Kansas City, MO The Fishtech Pavilion was a 2,576 square foot accessory structure to the existing Fishtech campus buildings.

As the project designer on this project, I handled construction documents.

I worked closely with the project manager to make sure the design intention of this structure was fully realized.

An interesting aspect of this project is that it required extensive coordination with structural and MEP consultants as every detail was heavily analyzed since the project was an accessory structure to BRR Architecture’s 2018 Capstone Award winning Fishtech office project.

Social, Science, and Sustainability Center Year | 2015 Location | Lawrence, KS The Social, Science, and Sustainability Center was a collaborative design effort with Rosemary Nelson, Kashish Syeda Naqvi, Xun Sun, and Vivianna Wang during the BNIM | KU Living Building Studio.

This collaborative design process had the common goal of creating an ecological awareness hub on The University of Kansas campus. The Living Building Challenge was the design standard used in pursuing the development of the Social, Science, and Sustainability Center.

An important aspect of the design was to create a space for students, faculty, and community members to experience the ever-changing process of nature through their interaction with a plethora of exposed eco-machine lagoons that inhabit the site. By incorporating ecological processes within the architectural program of the building, the Social, Science, and Sustainability Center was able to provide the university and local community with not only a suitable building for educational needs, but a building that promoted sustainability didactically.

312 Mojura Tower Year | 2014 Location | Kansas City, MO 312 Mojura Tower was a mixed-use building constructed out of cross laminated timber (CLT), and was located in the Garment District of Kansas City, Missouri.

The building was inspired by the Nakagin Capsule Tower by Kisho Kurokawa and consisted of 68 prefabricated modular units for its residential component. The retail and workshop component of the building entailed the first and second floors and were built with on-site construction methods.

The overall design consisted of three principles, first, a design that took into account passive systems, such as stack ventilation and water retention.

Second, honored the use of CLT in the construction of the building through exposing it with the use of charred CLT panels on the exterior. Third, took full advantage of prefabricated modular construction by allowing additional units to be added to the upper levels of the building if the need arose.

eCh Media Headquarters Year | 2014 Location | San Francisco, CA The headquarters of eCh Media was located in the South of Market neighborhood in the city of San Francisco, California.

The building was a commercial structure with an eight story tower and accompanying three story building. It was the hypothetical headquarters of a local media company that desired a stylish, yet reserved landmark for their headquarters.

The design of the building entailed exterior glazing wrapped in an alternating louver system that provided shade from natural light while creating a distinctive facade. Beyond the elaborate facade, the building was designed with a minimalist program that consisted of an open floor plan that ensured a collaborative work space environment.

Lite Lodging Year | 2018 Location | Kansas City, MO Lite Lodging was an entry in a hospitality oriented design competition.

The essence of the project was to see how modular, prefabricated units could be seamlessly inserted into an urban setting to provide additional hotel rooms affordably, yet with luxury in mind.

The units were constructed out of cross-laminated timber (CLT), a cost-effective, but strong material that possessed innate sustainable properties, such as a strong insulative component. Due to their nature of being prefabricated, the units had a high degree of customization that could be modified easily depending on the client’s desire. The luxury quality of the units came into play due to their dimension of 13’ by 38’, which provided ample room for guests, yet still allowed easy transport to the site.

Lastly, the interior had an exposed CLT material quality. The CLT interior provided an inviting natural environment for guests to enjoy their time relaxing on modern furniture while they observed the urban landscape through ample fenestrations throughout the unit.
