The 78th Annual Deep Sea Roundup Fishing Tournament The 78th Annual Deep Sea Roundup Fishing Tournament was held in Port Aransas last weekend July 11th through July 14th. The Deep Sea Roundup included an Offshore Division, Bay-Surf Division, Junior Division, Fly Fishing Division and the free Piggy Perch contest for the little guys and gals. The tournament is put on by the Port Aransas Boatmen’s Association.

This year’s big winners were: Offshore Grand Champion, Mac Owens, Caliente. Offshore Runnerup, Travis Granberry, Iced Down Billfish Catch and Release, Boat Champion, 1st Place, Relax 470 Pts. 2 fish 1 Blue Marlin 1 Sailfish 2nd Place: Hurvadura 400 Pts. 1 fish 1 Blue Marlin. Final Outcome of Legislative Bills from General Legislative Session (Part V)

On June 14th, the office of the Governor determined the final outcome of the bills which had managed to pass out of both the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate during the Regular Session of the 83rd Texas Legislature. During the twenty days following the end of a regular session, the Governor of Texas has the ability to sign bills in to law, pass them in to law without a signature or to veto them. It is during these twenty days that members of the Texas House and Texas Senate find out if the bills they worked on during the session will become law or not.

The 83rd Texas Legislature succeeded in sending a little over fourteen hundred bills to the Governor. Here are some of the bills that were passed in to law:

• House Bill (HB) 2792 which is related to the circumstances under which an appraisal review board hearing shall be closed to the public.

• HB 2818 pertains to certain local option elections and the permits and licenses that can be issued in areas that approved the sale of certain alcoholic beverages in a local option election.

• HB 2952 which addresses the period of time allowed for issuance of decisions by the commissioner of education in certain appeals against school districts.

• HB 2972 is relating to exempting premiums for certain insurance covering stored or intransit baled cotton from surplus lines insurance premium taxes.

• HB 2982 addresses the power of the Railroad Commission of Texas to adopt and enforce safety standards applicable to the transportation by pipeline of hazardous liquids, carbon dioxide, and natural gas in rural locations.

• HB 3093 pertains to the powers and duties of the Department of Information Resources and the Legislative Budget Board regarding information resources technologies of state agencies.

• Senate Bill (SB) 1289 pertained to certain business entities engaged in the publication of mug shots and other information regarding the involvement of an individual in the criminal justice system; providing a civil penalty.

• SB 1322 which is related to the provision of durable medical equipment and home health care services through informal and voluntary networks in the workers’ compensation system; providing penalties.

• SB 1368 is relating to public information pertaining to the official business of governmental bodies and to contracts by certain state governmental entities that involve the exchange or creation of public information.

• SB 1525 addresses including disability awareness training in risk management programs required for members and advisors of student organizations at postsecondary educational institutions.

• SB 1538 pertains to evaluating the performance, including computing dropout and completion rates, of public schools designated as dropout recovery schools.

Spend a Saturday Myth-Busting at the Alamo

Annual Save Texas History Symposium Moves to site of Legendary Seige Contrary to Texas folklore, the battle of the Alamo was not fought on the coldest winter on record. Nor was the army comprised of all nonconscripted, civilian volunteers.

And did you know that there were over 20 survivors of the siege — not zero as commonly reported?

These and other myths surrounding the legendary standoff will be exposed during the fourth annual Save Texas History Symposium.

“The Alamo: Mission and Myth” is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Menger Hotel and the Alamo, in downtown San Antonio.

More than just a series of lectures inside a distant convention center, participants will be given an on-site and behind-the-scenes look at circumstances surrounding the battle of the Alamo exactly where it took place 177 years ago.

Speakers for this year’s symposium include many prominent Texas historians and scholars, including: Alwyn Barr, professor emeritus and former chairman of the history department at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Gilberto Hinojosa, longtime history professor at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio Ret. Col. Thomas T. “Ty” Smith, author of numerous books and articles on the Texas frontier and military history

Ancient Cypress Forest Discovered Ten Miles Off Alabama Shore

But the divers who found the site were keenly aware that once the word got out to the dive community at large some divers would begin removing artifacts from the site, so they kept the find to themselves until early 2012 when word began to spread and they were afraid the removals would begin in earnest. They decided to act. One of the first divers to find the site after talking to the fishermen was Ben Raines, Executive Director of the nonprofit Weeks Bay Foundation, which researches estuaries.

Raines dove on the site and was astounded at what he saw; a primeval Cypress swamp in pristine condition which had become an artificial reef, attracting fish, crustaceans, sea anemones and other underwater life burrowing between

In order to leverage the large number of authors working together on the project, marketing agency AccuraCast devised a strategy to jointly promote all the works via a first of its kind social book launch, which includes promotion of their interview footage.

The ancient undersea forest covers 1.3 square kilometers. Scientists say the trees’ growth rings could reveal secrets about the climate of the Gulf of Mexico thousands of years ago, during a period known as the Wisconsin Glacial period, when sea levels were much lower than they are today. In addition, because Bald Cypress trees can live a thousand years, and there are so many of them, the trees could contain thousands of years of climate history for the region.

Some of the pieces still had bark on them because the forest was apparently buried under a thick layer of sand for eons until it was uncovered by giant waves during Hurricane Katrina. Some of the wood even had bits of sap still intact. They are also expected to give hints at what the entire area looked like before man began cutting down the ancient trees in the 1800s, when trees there rivaled the redwoods of California for size.

But the scientists must work quickly. They believe that within two years marine organisms will begin boring into the wood, destroying much of the treasure trove of information.

Ruth’s Last At-Bat

By Andy Purvis Special to the Island Moon On June 13, 1948, Cleveland was set to play the New York Yankees on Babe Ruth Day at Yankee stadium. The skies were overcast and otherwise gloomy on the day that Babe Ruth was to have his #3 retired for all-time. It was also the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium, now known as “The House that Ruth Built,” and there was standing room only. Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller was scheduled to start against the Yanks. We would later learn that Ruth’s public appearance that day would be his last at a baseball game. As Ruth entered the Cleveland dugout from the clubhouse, he appeared very weak.

He was thin, frail, stooped over, and it was obvious he was dying from throat cancer.

Eddie Robinson, a former teammate of Ruth’s with the Yankees and now the first baseman of the Cleveland Indians, was concerned and reached into the bat rack and handed Ruth a baseball bat to steady himself. Bob Feller’s name was on that bat. So Ruth made his way up the dugout steps and out onto the field. While standing in uniform with his back to the camera, one of the most famous photos ever taken in baseball history occurred. Old #3, with his cap in one hand and Feller’s bat in the other, stood and looked out at the stands as applause rained down on him like a hail storm.

With a terrible raspy voice, Ruth approached the microphone and thanked everyone. He ended his short speech by saying, “The greatest game in world, I think, is baseball.”

photographers that were present that day. His name was Nat Fein and he worked for the New York Herald Tribune. Fein named the photo, “The Babe Bows Out.” It is still the only sports photo to ever win a Pulitzer Prize.

Pitchers still batted for themselves. When it came time for Bob Feller to bat, he couldn’t find his bat and sent the clubhouse boy to find him another.

It wasn’t until 1982, that Bob Feller learned that Ruth had used his bat that day at Yankee Stadium to lean on and that teammate Eddie Robinson had kept the bat when Ruth returned it after the ceremonies. Robinson, understanding the importance of this historic day in baseball, hid Feller’s bat in his locker in the Indians clubhouse. Feller never blamed Robinson for keeping the bat and it was never returned.

Babe Ruth died two months after that photo was taken, August 16, 1948, in New York City.

He was but 53 years old. Bob Feller was in Chicago when he heard the news.

With such a diverse set of skills between the three, there may exist a delicate combination of touches that will support the development of quarterback David Ash and the passing game.

Health is the biggest concern. Brown missed five games in 2012, which opened the door for Gray to shine. But like a tripod, Texas’ running game will need all three legs performing consistently or the entire project can suffer.

Mike Davis and Jaxon Shipley: Apart from Davis and Shipley, Texas does not exactly exude a ton of confidence with its other wide receivers. With 11 receivers on scholarship, that leaves plenty of doors open for whomever wants to lunge at the opportunity.

The senior Davis and junior Shipley will have plenty on their plates.

Davis decided to return for his final season instead of jumping to the NFL, a decision that should prove critical for Texas’ deep ball.

Meanwhile, a fully healthy Shipley figures to provide that security-blanket aspect for Ash in what will be a crucial year for his development.

Still, the flak coming from the worst statistical defensive season in Texas football history has issued plenty of concern.

Will Hicks come back as the difference-maker he was once projected to be? Is Peter Jinkens, who started three games in 2012, the real deal or was it some fixation?

How will Steve Edmond respond after a very disappointing season? Can Dalton Santos brew enough competition to provide a muchimproved middle linebacker front?

Texas can squash all of the negative talk quickly with strong play from its linebackers and it is all a wait-and-see type of project right now.

Receivers Ranks Thin: Texas’ depth beyond Davis and Shipley is laughable. The numbers are there with 11 receivers, but the consistency in performance is not.

Sophomores Kendall Sanders and Cayleb Jones appear to be the top underclassmen, but both have had off-the-field issues that have them suspended for the season opener. Marcus Johnson, however, is not far behind them.

Bryant Jackson, John Harris and Miles Onyegbule are the veteran upperclassmen, but their production has been stymied by injuries or the inability to perform consistently.

Can any of the three keep healthy enough to cash in?

Jake Oliver, Montrel Meander and Jacorey Warrick fill out the rest of the group as true freshmen, but the realistic expectations for this year have to be slim.

At the end of the day, Texas cannot be comfortable with just two proven options at receiver.

Experience is not always everything, but inexperience ran wild throughout Texas’ defense a season ago and we all know the result of that. Now, it is time to flip the script.

Tight End needed: Junior college transfer Geoff Swaim could be making a push for the top job now that sophomore M.J. McFarland is recovering from a knee injury. Regardless, the Longhorns will have to see production instead of just imagining it.

Speed: The Longhorns seemingly have been recruiting more speed lately and the offensive side of the ball figures to have plenty of it.

Junior Greg Daniels is the only other tight end on the roster, but his body of work does not exactly scream production, either.

Although the departures of Marquise Goodwin and D.J. Monroe are huge losses in speed, the emergence of sophomore Daje Johnson could make us forget all about the long-goners.

The Bottom Line:

Johnson impressed in his limited action as a freshman and he will look to inherit plenty of

The Texas Longhorns enter year No. 3 of a rebuild that started following their 5-7 disaster in 2010. As one of the most experienced teams in the country, a near 180-degree switch from a season ago, Texas is on the brink of a true resurgence.

But just as success—in the form of a conference title and beyond—will re-establish the ‘Horns as a top program, anything close to mediocrity or stagnation could signal the end for Mack Brown.

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is definitely in a make-or-break season for his job, for reasons well endured.

His tanned skin clearly reflects his love of the sun and he readily admits that he loves to work outdoors, but his first love is fishing and you can frequently find Dwayne fishing off of the shore at Port Aransas near Charlie’s Pasture. He is just a regular person, working hard and trying to find enjoyment to fill his days. Dwayne, at 51, is quiet at first but quickly opens up to a stranger, especially if the topic is fishing or trucks. He’s generous with his iced beers too.

Born and raised in Miami, Dwayne also joined the U.S. Army, spending time in Germany and Colorado Springs, Colorado. He lived in Mineral Wells, Texas for 31 years, but frequently traveled to the coast of Texas and reconnected with the warmth, water and, of course, fishing.

Five years ago he moved to Port Aransas and eventually started his business Port “a” Lawn & Landscapes. Dwayne owns a yard mowing and pool cleaning business that keeps his wife/ business partner and him very busy most days.

He claims that he does at least 27 lawns a week, so after a hard day of donning the weed eater (his wife rides the mower) he sometimes heads down to the shore with his cast net, fishing pole, buckets, tackle box and a cooler with iced beer.

“This is how I decompress and relax. I fish and think about the work tomorrow”, offered Dwayne. “My wife is here and so is my son.

She is my partner. I also clean pools so this is my way of relaxation.”

Dwayne catches his own bait, deftly manipulating a cast net to snare minnows that he later hooks on his fishing line, hoping to catch a monster fish. “I would rather catch my bait than pay $7.00 for frozen, maybe soft and ineffective bait”, touts Dwayne.

Dwayne surveyed the water wearing a ‘CHEVY’ cap and sunglasses to cut the glare and offer a better view of small baitfish swimming by. He studied the water intently and then instantly sprang into action, tossing his cast net with its 40 feet of line right over a school of baitfish. He usually lands them, placing them in his bait bucket. He casually reels in his fishing pole line when he thinks he has a bite or every 20 minutes, whichever comes first. It seems he gets just as much joy out of casting his net to catch bait fish as he does catching large fish.

Dwayne’s dad taught him how to fish at an early age.

He remembers fishing at f a v o r i t e fishing holes in Miami in 1971, but was disappointed when he returned to those holes in 1991 to find them gone and replaced with housing developments and businesses. It seems he is not a fan of progress when his favorite fishing holes disappear. It seems that this type of progress is common everywhere as civilization expands into areas previously inhabited by only wildlife.

He is acclimated to the hot weather because he works outdoors, mowing and trimming lawns as well as cleaning pools. “I would rather be outside and get my hands dirty and have fun.”, added Dwayne.

Dwayne loves Port Aransas and is proud of his business that he built from scratch, generously offering me one of his business cards. It had been a decompression day for Dwayne and he was looking forward to cutting more lawns on Sunday.

Dwayne was like a detective seeking bait fish.

He often stoically stood, expertly surveying the water for tell-tale signs of bait fish while chatting. He would quickly spring into action and skillfully cast his net. He repeated this over and over, more often than not netting 2 or 3 baitfish. It was obvious that he had cast his net a few thousand times. Periodically, he would sit on the tail gate of his Dodge truck and continue sharing his story, reaching into his cooler and pulling out a very chilled bottle of beer. Dwayne thought for a minute and then continued, “In this same spot we are sitting is where I caught a 41 inch Red. I’ve also caught sharks and gafftops [a type of catfish]. I’ve caught just about every type of fish here.”

Being a lighthouse keeper certainly has its hazards, but we bet you never thought ingesting molten lead was one of them. We’re sure Henry Hall didn’t, either. Hall was the lighthouse keeper for the Eddystone Lighthouse in Devon, England, when it caught on fire in 1755. As he looked up at the burning tower of the lighthouse, some melted lead from the reflector dripped onto his face and down his throat. The 94-yearold man lasted 12 days before succumbing to his injuries; upon his death, his doctor removed a chunk of lead from his stomach that weighed nearly half a pound.

More crews are expected to arrive in the next few weeks and digging on the canal on the east side of SPID is set to begin in August. When complete that canal will connected the planned SPID Water Exchange Bridge with Packery Channel on the east and the existing canal system on the west.

It was getting hot and the Shell oil rig Olympus was in sight, methodically making headway up the channel. “I found an empty space and claimed my territory. I am fishing and killing time waiting for the oil rig.”, stated Dwayne. “I have been watching it for two months [viewing its progress in Inglewood from the channel every time he fishes].”

Look for the V in the water or for the tops of their fins to penetrate the top of the water.”, Dwayne advised. He pointed out schools of baitfish to me, typically schools that were out of reach of his 40 line. He recently added 20 feet of rope to his cast net so, “I can reach out and touch ‘em. It is tougher to catch the bait fish because they are evolving. They are getting smarter.”, surmised Dwayne. “At least, that is the way I think.”

By Brent Rourk Travel and nature lovers have a large selection of options in Texas and there are several local inspiring attractions that deserve closer inspection. One of those is the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (Aransas NWR), a large parcel of land north of Rockport, Texas. This magnificent land is comprised of a variety of ecological niches that are home to diverse and interesting wildlife.

Established in 1937 Established as the Aransas Migratory Waterfowl Refuge

by Executive Order 7784 on 31 December 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (during The Great Depression) this large parcel of land will likely surprise visitors because of its diversity and type of wildlife. The name was changed to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in 1939. Most visitors might tend to think that such a wonderland is impossible after driving through seemingly eternal stretches of flat farmland that surround the refuge. In an instant the landscape miraculously changes as you pass the front gate and see a visitor’s center flanked on one side by coastal woodlands with large, sprawling oak trees and on the other side

Feeding animals is strictly prohibited as is alcohol. Along with the scenic beauty comes the possibility of contacting wild or venomous animals.

Exercise caution as you hike throughout Aransas NWR and take insect repellent, water, sunscreen and head cover. The refuge staff recommends that you stay on trails as you may encounter ticks, bees, chiggers, and poison ivy along in addition to wild animals.

Turkey and deer are commonly seen in the morning as are bobcats, raccoons, hogs, grey foxes, coyotes, rabbits and other mammals. Many of these animals seek shade or sleep as the temperature rises so ideal viewing hours include the early morning.

Birding Paradise There is reported to be a staggering 400 plus species of birds that are attracted to the diverse ecology at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Included in that number is the rare Whooping Crane, that makes its winter home in the marshes along the coast where it can find some of its favorite foods; blue crabs, fish, clams, rodents, snails, insects, frogs, birds, berries and more. The Aransas NWR now hosts over 250 of the endangered Whooping Cranes during the winter (late October to mid-April).

There are thought to be over 500 Whooping Cranes now, up significantly over the 21 believed to be living in 1941. Efforts to save this rare bird and its habitat have been responsible for increasing numbers, yet it still teeters on the brink of extinction.

Aransas NWR hosts a variety of other shore birds including herons, egrets, pelicans, ibis, spoonbills ducks, stilts, and more. Other birds descend on the refuge, either as year round residents or migratory birds seeking shelter, rest, and food. Cardinals, tanagers, buntings, warblers, blackbirds, and other birds populate the refuge, offering birders a tremendous opportunity to observe many species in a short period of time in a small area.

Driving, Biking, Hiking Visitors can take a leisurely drive to the end of the road and back, stopping at dozens of places to observe landscapes and wildlife. A 16 mile auto tour loop is also available taking visitors more inland where you will notice rain fed freshwater ponds, prairie grasses, and a collection of pond hugging animals like snakes, frogs, turtles, alligators, and countless bird species.

The 16 mile paved tour loop can easily accommodate bicycles as well as cars, but be careful if you are on bike. Wild animals can cross paths with you. No off road bicycle use is permitted. The 16 mile tour loop provides an ideal bike ride in the early morning before the sun gets too hot. Take water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars, and a camera and enjoy a beautiful ride.

blacktopGYPSY… Another scalding show I need to mention was the blacktopGYPSY (Ft. Worth, TX) performance at the Back Porch on Friday. This six piece band boasts three beautifully talented ladies up front in the way of Andie Kay Joyner (lead vocals and acoustic guitar), Heather Stalling (fiddle, acoustic guitar and vocals) and Darcy Starcher (background vocals). They have the power of a locomotive and the grace of a gazelle. blacktopGYPSY played the Back Porch last Friday. show at the Porch was, blacktopGYPSY took it to the next level. Heather Stalling has star quality written all over her. Their harmonies were angelic… the musicianship flawless and uplifting. I’m convinced this band is destined for “the bigs”… really impressive.

Max Stalling/ Independent Thieves…

The Independent Thieves played Shorty’s last Friday.

I also caught shows last weekend by the rockin’ Americana act Mike McClure (Stillwater, OK) at the Third Coast Theater, the smooth as silk Texas country of Max Stalling (Ft. Worth, TX) at the Back Porch and a tight little string band from Corpus, the Independent Thieves (Corpus Christi, TX) at Shorty’s. The Max Stalling show was so packed that we stood on the porch over at Woody’s rather than fight the crowd. Stalling appears to be getting the recognition he so deserves. Everything about the guy is first class.

I also really enjoyed the Independent Thieves.

They are a young string band consisting of fiddle, mandolin and guitar with spot on three part harmonies. Definitely keep an eye out for these fellows. They’ll be playing Shorty’s about once a month.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Aug. 3), the Joe Ely Band (Aug. 10), Cory Morrow (Aug. 24), Jack Ingram (Aug. 31) and Los Lonely Boys (Sept. 2). According to Sharkey’s owner, Glenda McCormick, all of the shows will be outdoors behind the club and will start at 6:30 p.m. More to come…

THE K YDELLS JULY 19-21

Cody Angel played Giggity’s with a stage full of special guests.

And the “word of the day” is SCALDING. It applies to every show I attended this weekend, as well as the temperatures I endured in the process. It started at the Back Porch on Thursday when Cody Angel hit town and set the pace for the weekend. He’s been away at college in West Texas and now finds himself one busy young man. But to his credit, he’s spent his time productively becoming quite proficient on pedal steel and has picked up a good bit of road work around Texas and Oklahoma… most recently with the Okie red dirt outfit, The Damn Quails (they’ll be here at the Third Coast Theater on August 17 but without Cody on this gig). A little weary of country and the road, Cody told me it was great to get back home to the island and play some blues for a change. At the Porch gig he had his mentors, Antone Perez (drums) and Mike Guerra (bass) in tow and it was a nice homecoming…but the real fireworks started when he took his show over to Giggity’s on Saturday night. He still had Antone playing drums but Art Galvan picked up bass duties and somewhere along the way our old friend, Tommy Robinson (the master sax player from Austin a là W.C. Clark, The Cobras, etc, etc) dropped in with his ax along with some 15 year old kid from Austin named Dave North (with Malford Milligan and Van Wilks credentials) and the show suddenly became, well… SCALDING. Cody did his best to take the youngster to school, but the kid hung tough.

I mean Cody is only 21, but it was amazing how good this new kid was. Needless to say, Cody set the bar plenty high but the kid rocked back every time… Cody couldn’t seem to stump him.

I kept thinking back to when Cody was the 16 year old wunderkind blowing everyone’s minds.

I guess there’s always a faster/younger gun out there. But one thing young Angel knows, it’s not the number of notes you play, it’s how you play them. It was great to see my little brother back in town. It was also a very special treat to have Tommy Robinson grace the Giggity’s stage. I really dig where the music’s going over there.

Here are my recommendations for this weekend: On Thursday, July 18th, Three Way Street will bring their boot scootin’ country show to Giggity’s; the always fun Free Beer Band will be at the Tarpon Ice House; Scarecrow People will be at the Back Porch; and Bart Crow and Pear Ratz will be at Brewster Street. On Friday, July 19th, our local island darling, Melissa Brooke, will be at Giggity’s, Ruben Limas will be at Shorty’s, Bri Bagwelll will be at the South Texas Ice House, the Kydells (Austin, TX) will be at the Tarpon Ice House, and Josh Weathers (Ft. Worth, TX) will be at the Back Porch. The Kydells are a band that plays a kind of hybrid country, blues, Texas roadhouse and Appalachian blue grass with amazing harmonies. This is definitely a DO NOT MISS show in the same vein as the Shoemaker Brothers. They will also be at the Ice House on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Josh Weathers is a blue-eyed soul act I first saw at the Rockport Music Festival last spring. This man is impressive… Delbert McClinton impressive. I’ve been waiting for this show to roll around for a long time. Don’t miss!

Todd Dorn, Kathy Murray, Dirty River Boys…

going back to the 70’s with her band Kathy and the Kilowatts. Any of you women out there who think you can sing some blues, need to come to school at Shorty’s on Saturday. This lady will blow your socks off. And finally on Saturday, the incredible Dirty River Boys make their island debut. I first saw this band about a year ago at Brewster Street on a bill with the Wheeler Brothers and Uncle Lucius and was completely blown away by them. They had two guys on lead vocals, Nino Cooper and Marco Gutierrez. Both of them also played guitar, harmonica and mandolin. Cooper was about four feet tall (I’m not exaggerating) and was incredible. His guitar looked huge on his little torso. He has a gifted voice that was both beautiful and forceful. Gutierrez sang hard and

passionately. The stand-up bass player, Colton James, looked like a character from an old time cowboy movie. He had his jeans tucked in his boots and a toothpick in his mouth and would play his full size bass like a guitar on his knee. At times all of the players would switch instruments and play with equal precision and fervor. It was an amazing thing to watch… like a three ring circus. The drummer, Travis Stearns, was especially wild and played a cajon (box hand drum), snare and tambourine (only), but he did so with the intensity of a whirling Dervish on steroids. I know I gush about a lot of bands, but these guys really moved me. Trust me and DO NOT MISS THE DIRTY RIVER BOYS!!! They get my pick of the Kathy Murray will week.

On Saturday, July 20th. Todd Dorn and the Sea Drifters return to Giggity’s; Kathy Murray and Bill “Monster” Jones will be at Shorty’; and the Dirty River Boys (El Paso, TX) will be at the Back Porch. Kathy play Shorty’s this Murray is an Austin blues icon, Saturday night.

And that’s the truth!
