GOVERNMENT

The City of South Fulton is governed by a Mayor and a seven-member City Council, all elected to four-year terms. The Council ensures the provision of effective municipal government services and regulation based on the needs of residents and within the parameters of the city’s annual budget. Council members adopt and update ordinances as necessary; determine policies and standards; approve annual budgets and set the City’s millage rate, fees, and fines.

The Council meets at 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month for a work session and/or a regular meeting. All meetings are streamed live on the City’s YouTube channel. Residents can provide public comments at each regular meeting.

HISTORY

DEMOGRAPHICS

Incorporated on May 1, 2017, the City of South Fulton is Georgia’s fifth-largest city in population. Nearly 92 percent of its residents hold at least a high school diploma and the average household income is about $78,000, making the city one of the most-affluent in the south metro Atlanta area.

Situated within a drive of 15 to 20 minutes to Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport – the world’s busiest – the City of South Fulton is home to nearly 120,000 people. It represents the best of all worlds, from the bustling business districts on Cascade Road, Roosevelt and Old National Highways to sprawling, rural scenes along the city’s picturesque southeast border. Communities such as Red Oak, Campbellton and Sandtown enjoy rich histories that have unfolded over hundreds of years.

The City of South Fulton is pleased to announce that all new building permit applications can be submitted electronically through our new electronic permitting software, SagesGov. You can access the website at https://www.sagesgov.com/southfulton-ga Our Permitting Division can be reached at 470-809-7700. All applications are now accepted elec tronically by accessing the permitting department on our website.

Land Disturbance permit applications must be mailed to City Hall. Please send 6 sets of plans (4 copies of plats) with two copies of any associated reports and a completed Log-In Form (see attached) via FedEx, UPS, or similar, or mail to City Hall. Address the package to the attention of the Permitting Division. Be sure to include email contact address(es) on the Log-In Form.

Reaching the Staff & Submitting Applications

• Permitting staff can be reached between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:00 pm to assist you with your permit ting needs.

Effective Monday, April 6, 2020, all new applications must be submitted via our electronic permitting software, SagesGov. Applications previously submitted will continue processing as normal. City staff will contact applicants via email or phone.

• If you are need of an invoice to pay for a permit or reinspection fee, send your request to our Permitting Team. Once you receive your invoice, payments can be made online. Please note, payments made after 3:00 pm will be processed the next business day.

• Inspections will continue as normal with communication via email and/or phone. All inspection requests received by 4:00 pm will be conducted the next business day.

• Email the Inspection Staff for inspection requests or results.

POLICE

A full-service police agency, the Department has ad opted a community-oriented philosophy and relies heavily upon community input and collaborative prob lem-solving strategies. It is through heightened com munity involvement in public safety matters that the South Fulton Police Department will most effectively address its many priorities, including, but not limited to youth-related crime, domestic violence and the perception of crime in South Fulton.

The City of South Fulton Police Department currently serves a geographical area of approximately 87 miles with a residential population of roughly 99,250 resi dents. The Department is organized into four main functional operation:

The City of South Fulton covers 106 square miles and is supported by 10 Fire Stations, 162 sworn personnel, and 11 civilian support staff. Striving to be second to none, the Department provides the following services: Community Emergency Response Training Emergency Medical Service

Fire Operations is the largest division within the Fire Department and is responsible for the mitigation of all emergencies within the City of South Fulton. Fire Personnel respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material mitigation, vehicle extrication, aircraft emergencies, and collapse and confined space incidents from ten strategically located fire stations. Fire Operations staff include 162 committed women and men who operate 24 hours a day/365 days a year to provide the highest quality of service to the community.

SEECLICKFIX

The City of South Fulton has partnered with SeeClickFix to announce a new platform, COSF 311, that will allow citizens to report quality-of-life issues and request City services. In addition, the 311 platform provides City officials with a centralized issue management system to manage issues from creation to resolution — engaging City of South Fulton residents throughout the process.

COSF 311 not only allows residents to report problems, but also to view, comment on, and vote to fix problems submitted by their neighbors.

In addition, residents may seek information about city services or report non-emergency incidents by calling the city’s 24-hour 311 Call Center at (470) 552-4311.

Fulton County Schools (FCS) is the fourth largest school system in Georgia with more than 14,000 full-and parttime employees, including more than 7,500 teachers and other certified personnel, who work in 106 schools and administrative and support buildings.

During the school year, approximately 93,500 students will attend classes in 59 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, 18 high schools (includes two open campus high schools) and 10 charter organizations (some charters have multiple campuses but are considered one school).

PARKS AND RECREATION

Great parks have the power to increase quality of life and strengthen the fabric of the City of South Fulton. Our vision is to provide affordable recreation, social and cultural opportunities for all City of South Fulton residents with a focus on families, youth development, adults and building healthy communities.

The newly expanded Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department plans and organizes activities for 13 parks, 5 recreation centers, 2 tennis facilities and 2 art centers. This includes an indoor natatorium, gymna siums, fitness centers, theaters, community buildings, athletic fields, outdoor pavilions, playgrounds, walking trails, a community garden, and a dog park.

The programs and services offered by the department provide value, quality and emphasize the equitable distribution of resources throughout the city. Our scope includes partnerships with associations, contrac tors, vendors and key community leaders. We offer these programs in safe, attractive and well-maintained facilities that reflect our community’s needs and interests.

Adaptive Programs

The City of South Fulton provides therapeutically based recreation programs for people with cogni tive and physical disabilities that expand their access to opportuni ties that promote physical fitness, health and wellness, increased self-esteem, and greater function al independence.

Performing Arts

The Cultural Affairs division refers to performing arts as forms in which artists use their voices, bodies or inanimate objects to convey artistic expression. Different from fine arts, which is when artists use paint, can vas or various materials to create physical or static art objects.

South Fulton’s division of Cultural Affairs provides active recreational opportunities and cultural experi ences in art for all ages and interest groups. A diverse group of art pro fessionals plan organize and direct activities such as dance instruction, drama, crafts or art exhibitions.

Senior Activities

South Fulton embraces inclusion, diversity and is committed to of fering senior citizens a variety of programs to educate, inspire, or enhance one’s individual experi ence. These programs will deliver a range of stimulating engage ments to keep the mind sharp and open to new ideas.

Special Events

South Fulton PRCA provides a wide variety of special events that allow families to experience safe, exciting, and organized recreation al activities in beautiful recreation centers or park locations through out the city. Most of these events / activities have a minimal cost or are free.

Youth Athletics

South Fulton encourages participation in organized sports during childhood and adolescence which has important benefits for physical, psychological, and social health. Our sport-based youth development programs outside of school promote a wide range of learning and life skill development.

Facility Rental

All facility rentals for the City of South Fulton Parks and Rec reation are conducted through the CivicRec. Once you have submitted your reservation through CivicRec, the City of South Fulton Parks & Recreation Administrative Office must approve and confirm the reservation before any further action is taken.
