DRAX DIGEST

Dear Readers,

Don’t hesitate to contact us with your ideas for future issues at eleonora@svvl.net!

Thank you for being here with us through the past year to what is now our 12th issue Next month marks our first anniversary of the digest, which was born out of a spontaneous idea a possibility much like the birth of DRAX Publishing itself.

DRAX Publishing unfolded in a slew of craziness as we scrambled to produce Mrs : The Book, our first publication, for Mrs ’s 93rd birthday last April I've had the great privilege of working for Mrs for nearly twenty years, and this volume was meant to share her generosity, unfailing loyalty, and the remarkable person she is The person who has done so much to transform us all at DRAX to be the best versions of ourselves

The Mrs Book project and its great success prompted the creation of DRAX Publishing, another branch of Mrs ’s legacy of beauty, innovation, and compassion, which we hope will become a platform for emerging artists in writing, design, and photography to share their diverse voices and stories with the world.

Thank you for your ongoing support. It’s a privilege to see DRAX’s businesses transform from ideas into tangible companies with visions, mission statements, passionate employees, and loyal cheerleaders

I hope this monthly newsletter is as much a gift to you as it is for Mrs , me, and our creative team

With heartfelt gratitude,

Michael Ennis

Wellness+ Studio

“Wellness+ Studio is a Zen garden carved into the fortress that is the Gagosian building on Madison Avenue Its primary focus is on the body being healthy, making sure you look good, but also ensuring its efficiency Their philosophy is to treat the body as truly sacred, not just a machine As such, the studio isn’t trying to peddle customers with gimmicky drinks or false promises of fast results Instead, it is a collaborative process between trainer and trainee to build the body to reach its full potential Their holistic approach is guided by the four stones of their logo: Nutrition, Exercise, Recovery, and Rest Though so many of us hinge on the first two pillars, Peña says it is the last two that are crucial for success “We want you to cultivate yourself,” she explains “[Whether that’s] finding the best version of you and the goals you want to achieve or just staying stable in your age ”

Magazine | January 2024

Wellness+ Studio has seen massive success in the past several months, a fitting trend for the business's first anniversary Wellness+ Studio has been featured in many articles across over ten digital and physical press platforms, including esteemed health and wellness and local business magazines!

DRAX PRODUCTIONS

After navigating the unpredictable waves of being a production company in 2023 (with all the strikes and issues accompanying post-pandemic recovery), DRAX Productions looks towards a vibrant 2024 with dreadful horror projects in the works with dreadfully big names Stay tuned for updates and projects sure to make you want to stay far away from wild forests and dark places.

THE SVL INSTITUTE

The SvL Institute’s Community Outreach Dinner on January 20th was a huge success! We had attendees from all over Connecticut, and even Massachusetts come to Burr Hall Farm for a beautiful, delicious dinner crafted by our very own Chad Brauze.

The evening was filled with deep, meaningful conversations and connections between individuals from diverse non-profit spheres. Climate and environmental non-profits spoke to the women’s rights non-profits, while the arts organizations bonded with the farmers and animal welfare activists The atmosphere was full of openness, gratitude, and hope for a brighter future

Due to the success of our first-ever community outreach event, SvLI is planning another event for organizations in New York!

We look forward to another amazing afternoon of listening and connection as we continue to learn how to maximize our impact as a new non-profit.

Travel Wellness Essentials

It isn’t unusual to neglect our health when traveling With the vacation and travel season approaching, prioritizing well-being is essential Check out these five tips to stay healthy and energized while on the go!

Protect Your Eyes and Skin

Protecting your eyes and skin from sun damage is crucial for maintaining good health and preventing long-term damage. The sun emits harmful UV rays that can cause various health problems like sunburn, skin cancer, and cataracts and contribute to signs of aging

So make sure to pack sunglasses, which block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, and a broadspectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30!

Stay Active and Stretch!

Staying active and stretching while traveling is important for both physical and mental health. Sitting for long periods of time during travel can cause stiffness and muscle cramps. Taking breaks to stretch and move around can help prevent these issues and keep you refreshed and energized Something as simple as taking short walks and doing dynamic stretches will help you stay mobile and active So, whether you're on a plane, train, or road trip, make sure to take the time to move your body and stretch. Your body will thank you for it!

Winter Avocado Citrus Salad

Ingredients:

For the Salad:

3-4 cups mixed greens

3 large navel or cara oranges

2 clementines or mandarins

1 blood orange

1 avocado

Fresh mint and dill, to taste

For the Vinaigrette:

3 TB sherry vinegar

2 TB whole grain dijon mustard

6 TB olive oil

1 shallot, finely minced

Salt and pepper, to taste

1.Start by making the dressing: add all the ingredients to a small mixing bowl, whisking until emulsified, and the vinaigrette has the desired consistency Adjust the seasoning as needed Set aside for later use

2.Prepare the fruits. Carefully peel all the citrus fruits with a knife. Cut into round slices or wedges, discarding all visible seeds. Peel the avocado, slicing it finely.

3.To assemble the salad, lay the greens at the bottom of the plate or a beautiful large platter, arranging the citrus and avocado slices neatly on top

4 Drizzle generously with the vinaigrette

5.Evenly top the salad with nice, whole leaves from the fresh herbs

6.Serve as is, or pair perfectly with a crispy baked salmon or baked cheese

7.Enjoy! :)
