DRAX Fine Art DRAX Fine Art collects myriads of unique and beautiful works in many mediums to support artists by investing in, sharing, and distributing their pieces to art enthusiasts nationwide. DRAX Fine Art's extensive library has been home to works by Alfred Munnings, Agnes Martin, Gilbert Stuart, Edward Weston, Brassaï, Maurice Utrillo, Amedeo Modigliani, Fernando Botero, and Sam Gilliam.

DRAX Fine Art specializes in many art forms, including: - Photography - Sculptures - Paintings - Indian Miniatures - Works on Paper DRAX Fine Art has achieved several notable milestones as an art collector, including the fact that we are home to the most extensive collection of Indian Miniatures outside of India.

Our most recent acquisition of significance is a beautiful drapery work by Sam Gilliam, who was esteemed for his unique drape paintings.

Michael Ennis Michael Ennis is at the forefront of the DRAX Community and, as such, wears many hats, one of which is General Manager of DRAX Fine Art. Q: What was the initial purpose and vision of DRAX Fine Art? What started with buying undervalued art within the realms of our (mine, Mrs.'s, and Van Reeves') expertise and then selling it at a higher price point quickly turned into a greater purpose of recognizing underappreciated artists, schools (such as The Color School), and genres through our knowledge of the market.

Q: What experience or series of experiences sparked your love of art?

Growing up, my grandmother was an artist, and that was unusual and cool since most of my friends never knew an artist personally. She and I were very close, so most of my fascination with art came from that period of my life.

Q: Looking toward the future, what innovations do you anticipate will shape the art industry?

I think that a couple of things; shared ownership of art is starting to become popular, so art is becoming more accessible. The era of the masterpieces exchanged the way they do now is becoming less popular, giving living artists more of a chance to be recognized during their lifetime, which is very exciting.

Lici studies Data Science and Law at N.Y.U. and is a User Generated Content Creator and Social Media Marketing Manager. Look for increased activity on our channels!

BreadStory BreadStory's ice cream truck just released three different Picnic Platters for Stuytown's Summer Movies on the lawn! From Veggie Goodness, Cheesy Dreams, and Savory Charcuterie, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy while watching a film on the big screen. Be sure to grab one before they're sold out and enjoy the movie magic!

Burr Hall Farm Summer has officially arrived at Burr Hall Farm, which is now teaming with life as our diverse cover crops explode with growth to repair our soil! The produce in our gardens is blossoming with flowers as the bees pollinate with a buzz. Chickens have taken to dust baths to keep cool, and the goats lounge in the shade.

It's an exciting time of year, and the crew at B.H.F., including our new local intern, Sebastien, has been doing a great job nurturing the vibrancy of summer life on the farm.

William J. von Liebig Foundation The animal rescue shelter of the month is The Asher House. The Asher House rescues and rehabilitates abused and abandoned animals, giving them a permanent home in the founder's, Lee's, sanctuary. Lee's "pack" consists of over 45 animals!

Team Profile Van Reeves has a remarkable love story with art, having worked with museums worldwide, including the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Van even assisted Jewish families in recovering stolen or improperly acquired art during the Nazi occupation. His firm recovered a vital collection of Klimt paintings, later resulting in a popular movie, Woman In Gold, inspired by their feat. His expertise involving authenticity, ownership, purchases and sales, loans, leasing, rentals, insurance, recovery, and collection development brings so much to our team at DRAX!

Sam Gilliam Gilliam was an internationally recognized and admired contemporary African-American artist most widely known for his large colorstained drape canvases suspended from walls and ceilings.

According to the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this method was a form of experimentation where Gilliam taped and poured colors, staining canvases and folding them (still wet) against themselves to "imprint vertical, angular, and axial forms." Gilliam became the first painter to introduce the idea of an unsupported canvas.

"Partially inspired by women hanging laundry on clotheslines he observed from the window of his Washington studio, Gilliam abandoned the frame and stretcher, and began to drape and suspend large areas of paint stained canvas."

Thai Peanut Shrimp Soup

Makes 6 Servings

Ingredients: 4 cups chicken or vegetables broth 1 can coconut milk 1/4 cup soy sauce 2 TB fish sauce 2 TB honey 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter 1/4 cup Thai red curry paste 3/4 pound shrimp, cleaned

8 oz. mushrooms, sliced 2 red bell peppers 1 inch fresh ginger, grated 1 clove garlic, grated 4 squares ramen noodles lime juice fresh cilantro, chopped peanuts, chopped

Directions: 1. In a large soup pot, combine the broth, coconut milk, soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, peanut butter, and curry paste. Add the Shrimp, cremini mushrooms, red peppers, ginger, and garlic. Set over medium heat on the stove and bring to a simmer, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes or until the shrimp are cooked through.

2. Bring the soup to a boil over high heat. Stir in the noodles, lime juice, spinach, and cilantro. Let sit for 5 minutes or until the noodles are soft.

3. Ladle the soup into bowls and top with peanuts and toasted sesame oil. Enjoy!
