Understanding transfer credits
The college/school of your major program will reach out to you with information on viewing your transfer credits. Contact your academic representative and arrange to discuss how credits apply to your major. If your academic interests change prior to enrollment, please notify the Office of Admission so your transcript evaluation may be reviewed and revised. Enroll at drake.edu/admitted
Once you have transfer credit and financial aid answers, you’ll need to submit a non-refundable $250 tuition deposit in order to begin the advising and registration process. From the admitted student landing page, select “Enroll at Drake” to go to the enrollment page, where you can log into Drake’s blueView system (see info at right) to confirm your decision to attend Drake. You’ll find your login credentials in your acceptance letter. Plan for housing /meals or commuter status
To submit a request for residence hall housing, select the link for the Housing and Meal Selection Portal. Use your blueView login credentials to complete the online housing and meal contract and pay your $250 housing deposit (which is separate from the $250 tuition deposit). See more details on housing/meal plans on page 3.

If you’ve been out of high school for fewer than two years but meet requirements to live off campus (see page 3), you can request approval for commuter status via this same portal. Celebrate!

Transfer credits
You’ll receive information from your Drake college/school on how to access the online transcript evaluation of your previous work. This information will also assign you an academic representative. Once you receive this, contact your representative to schedule an appointment to discuss how your transfer credits apply toward your major and degree requirements, and how long it may take to finish your degree. Your academic representative will provide advice on which courses to take your first semester at Drake. In order to complete the admission process, you must have an official copy of your final transcript sent directly to the Drake Office of Admission. When final, official transcripts are received for any additional courses you may have completed after the point of admission, your record is updated accordingly. For more information on the transfer credit evaluation system, including advanced credit earned through Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and CollegeLevel Education Program (CLEP), visit drake.edu/registrar/ transfercreditinformation.
Intro to blueView
blueView is Drake’s secure, password-protected web portal used by students, faculty, and staff. Here you can find out about campus events; access Drake’s email system; and see your class schedule, grades, unofficial transcript, account information, and much more. Accessing blueView The first time you access blueView it will be via the Admitted Student landing page, drake.edu/admitted. In the future, you can get to blueView via a button on the upper left of the Drake Student page, drake.edu/students, or directly at blue.drake.edu. Logging in You’ll find your login credentials in the body of your acceptance letter. This includes your username (which is your Drake ID number) and case-sensitive temporary password (using your birthdate followed by an exclamation point: MmmDDYYYY!, such as Apr131998!). Problems? Reach out to Tech Support Services, at its.drake.edu/students, or your admission counselor. Changing your default password After you log in for the first time, it’s important to change your default password by clicking the “Change Your Drake Password” link at the bottom of the blueView secure login box. You can also access this screen directly by visiting password.drake.edu. Additional uses Once your tuition deposit is processed, you’ll gain access to the “New Student” tab, where you’ll access the email and calendar system; MyDusis, which provides information on registration and billing; and Blackboard, an online learning application you’ll use in your classes. 2
Visit as an admitted student Meet, tour, and plan If you schedule an on-campus meeting with your academic representative, contact the campus visit coordinator in the Office of Admission to discuss building these additional arrangements into your visit before or after your meeting with the academic representative: • • • •

Please provide the campus visit coordinator with the date/ time of the meeting with your academic representative so he/she can schedule around it. Admitted student days Even if you’ve already visited, most students find it helpful to visit again once they’re admitted. Housing On-campus housing requirement Full-time students must live in a Drake residence hall for the first two years out of high school. Exceptions include individuals who are married or live within a 45-mile radius of Drake University with their parent(s)/ legal guardian and have requested and received written approval from the Office of Residence Life to live off campus as a commuter student. Visit the Housing & Meal Selection portal (see step 4 under Enrolling at Drake) to complete the application and upload requested documentation or to submit a commuter student request. Off-campus options A variety of off-campus housing options are available at Drake, including multiple resident dwellings, houses segmented into individual apartments, traditional apartment buildings, or Greek houses for members of a fraternity or sorority. See drake.edu/realestate for Drakeowned apartments, drakewestvillage.com for furnished apartments in Drake West Village, or pick up a listing of additional rentals available from local landlords at the Office of Residence Life or Student Life Center, both in Olmsted Center.
Residence hall living
Roommate selection If you want to select your own roommate, priority consideration will be given until June 30 for the fall term. Both roommates will need to request each other via the online housing portal—roommate pairings must be mutually requested and confirmed via the online portal by each roommate prior to June 30 to receive priority consideration. Roommate 3
admitted student visit days for student beginning in fall 2018: Friday, March 2; Friday, March 30; and Friday, April 6 drake.edu/visit requests received after June 30 or requests that are not mutually confirmed by that date cannot be guaranteed. Roommate requests for spring term will be handled on a spaceavailable basis. If you aren’t requesting a roommate, the Office of Student Life will match you based upon the lifestyle questions you answered in your application. Your room and hall Placement into housing—including your preferences for a single, double, or triple room—is based on the date your housing and meal selection application is submitted and your housing deposit is received. Hall assignments and roommates for the fall term will be posted on blueView at the end of July. For spring term, assignments will be available Jan. 20 for students who submit a contract by Dec. 1. Changing your personal information The Drake Housing & Meal Selection portal is pre-populated with the information you provided when you applied. You may update via the “MyDusis” tab in blueView.
Dining
Who needs a meal plan? All students living on campus are required to sign up for a meal plan. For off-campus and approved commuter students, it’s optional. Choosing a meal plan When you select your meal plan in the Housing & Meal Selection portal, you’ll choose from a range of options that include a combination of pre-paid, all-you-care-to-eat meals and Flex Dollars, which can be used to purchase food at various locations on campus. Not sure? You can change your meal plan until the first Thursday of classes. Drake Card/Bulldog Bucks Your Drake ID Card serves as your meal ticket as well as your reloadable card for Bulldog Bucks, which can be used to purchase food, coffee, and convenience items on campus as well as athletic concessions, laundry, printing (beyond the $20 allotment you’ll get from Drake), and even Uber. Forms, finances, etc. Financial planning for U.S. students
The Office of Student Financial Planning prepares the official financial aid package for admitted students. The various types of financial assistance that are offered to Drake students and their families are available online at drake.edu/financialaid. Tuition and fees are due the first day of the semester unless the account is enrolled in the payment plan (see drake.edu/accounts/paymentoptions for details). Tuition payments can be made through the Student Accounts office at drake.edu/accounts or on blueView. The FASFA We encourage you to file a FAFSA—Free Application for Federal Student Aid—to be aware of all your financial aid options. FAFSA filing for the 2018–2019 school year began on Oct. 1, 2017, to be completed with information from your family’s 2016 federal tax return. You can find the online form at fafsa.gov. If you intend to apply for need-based financial aid, you must submit the FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline. Those who apply after this date are considered on a funds-available basis. The Federal School Code for Drake University is 001860. To add Drake to your FAFSA after it has been sent in, call 1-800-4-fedaid (333243) and have your Student Aid Report (SAR) ready. If you filed online, you can go back to the FAFSA website and make the changes there. Visit drake.edu/financialaid for tips on navigating the FAFSA process. Financial planning for international students The international admission area of the Office of Admission is responsible for determining need-based financial aid for international students. To learn more, visit drake.edu/admission/internationalstudents and select Costs & Financial Aid –> Grants and Scholarships. Student health All full-time students must have a completed health history form on file at Drake’s student health center and meet guidelines concerning health insurance, immunization, and testing as outlined in the Drake Immunization Policy. Medical forms, available at drake.edu/health, must be returned before classes start.
Registration and orientation
You may begin your education at Drake in the fall or spring. Drake offers flexible options for you to register for classes and get acquainted with the people and places that will be part of your life.
FALL 2018 ENROLLMENT If you’re starting in the fall semester, you have TWO CHOICES for registration and orientation; you’ll need to select option A or B:

OPTION A individual registration/new student orientation Fall transfer students may choose to register on an individual basis beginning in April and then attend the New Student Program in August. This program, designed specifically for transfer students, is held on Friday during Welcome Weekend immediately prior to the beginning of the fall semester. You’ll have opportunities to meet new and current students, interact with professors and staff, and get questions answered about classes and the Drake experience. Registration To schedule an individual appointment, contact your Drake college/ school academic representative. See list on the final page. Welcome Weekend/Transfer Orientation Thursday, Aug. 23–Friday, Aug. 24 Welcome Weekend will begin the Thursday before classes, with transer orientation the following day.
OPTION B summer registration and orientation (june only) You can choose to register while you learn more about Drake by participating in one of Drake’s June orientation and registration sessions. Because it also includes first-year students, this route will be especially helpful if you’ve only been out of high school for a year or so or are planning to get involved in campus life and activities. 2018 Summer Orientation Sunday, June 3–Monday, June 4 Wednesday, June 6–Thursday, June 7 Sunday, June 10–Monday, June 11 Friday, June 15–Saturday, June 16 Sunday, June 24–Monday, June 25 Welcome Weekend/Transfer Orientation Thursday, Aug. 23–Friday, Aug. 24 Welcome Weekend will begin the Thursday before classes, with New Student Program activities the following day. A schedule and related materials will be mailed to you in July. International Students International students will take part in a special orientation session Aug. 21–22, followed by Welcome Weekend activities or the transfer orientation.
SPRING 2019 ENROLLMENT If you’re starting in the spring semester, which begins Jan. 28, registration for that term begins in November. The New Student Program and transfer orientation will be held in January. Registration information for the spring term is available in November.
