It’s A Bagger World

LeMans Corporation’s late-founder Fred Fox used to say that when someone buys a new bike (new or used), that’s the start of a project. That’s never been truer than it is today. Unless you have just arrived here from Mars, I don’t need to tell you that the V-twin motorcycle business is dominated these days by Baggers. And with only a few exceptions, this issue of Drag Specialties Magazine has plenty of Bagger content to feed your interest in what is going on, both on the street and the racetrack.

For starters, the Summer Olympics are coming up, so it’s the perfect time to “Go for the Gold!” Be sure to check out the gold-trimmed Performance Bagger from Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson starting on page 30. Talk about coming full circle. Just a few years ago, it was Suburban’s Joe Houpt who was showing us how to turn a Performance Bagger into a race bike. Now, with a few years of Bagger racing under his belt, Joe and his team in Thiensville, Wisconsin took what they learned on the track and applied it to street use.

On page 50, you’ll see how Lance Coury and his team at THRASHIN Supply Company outfitted a new Harley Road Glide with goodies from his product line to improve the handling and riding comfort. And we’re not done yet. Starting on page 70, we’ve got a cool (no pun intended) Arctic Blast Bagger project from Wolverine Harley-Davidson of Clinton Township, Michigan. Dubbed the 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Arctic Blast Special, the Wolverine team spared no expense to outfit their machine with both motor and chassis upgrades found in the Drag Specialties FatBook

As always, you’ll find plenty of stories in this issue about specific products your customers want to know about. Like, who couldn’t use a little help from a Trask turbo kit? Or an exhaust system from Bassani, Cobra or S&S? We’ve got seats from Saddlemen, Drag Specialties, LePera, and SlyFox, plus tires, cables, oil, lights, carbon fiber, and much more.

Lastly, the Bagger world, and everything else in the V-Twin market, will be on display at the NVP Product Expo in September at its all-new location at the Baird Center in Milwaukee. Check with your Drag Specialties sales rep to get signed up for that all important business event. Hope to see you there! ■

In Loving Memory: Darryl Bassani

EXHAUST COMPANY LEGEND RECEIVES HEARTFELT SEND-OFF Dennis Johnson photos

The motorcycle and motorsport family turned out in full-force to honor the late Darryl Bassani, offering up tears, laughs and plenty of great stories about the exhaust company founder and industry legend.

All eyes were on the Carson Center in Carson, California in late April as family, friends and colleagues of Bassani gathered for one final tribute to the man known as much for his trademark handlebar mustache as he was for his power-producing exhaust systems manufactured by his company, Bassani Xhaust. Bassani died February 7th after a battle with cancer. He was 80.

In late April Darryl Bassani's family, friends and fans from far and wide gathered in honor of the late exhaust wizard and all-around industry legend. The celebration of life featured products and memorabilia from Bassani's long history as an exhaust manufacturer and plenty of great Darryl stories.

A long list of family and friends took to the stage at the Carson Center to recount the impact that Bassani had on them and their business and racing careers, as well as the warmth and humor he injected into their lives. Just about everybody who got on the mic had a “wild Darryl” story to tell and, as they did, those in the audience shook their heads up and down knowingly. Yep, that was Darryl. ■

NEWS EVENTS AND Stars & Stripes Go Racing With Saddlemen!

Saddlemen Race Development debuted a special American-themed livery for the inaugural King of the Baggers race with MotoGP at COTA. The Evel Knievel-inspired paint job featured a pearl-white base coat, red and blue stripes, and white stars. Master painter Kris Echert designed the paint scheme himself at the Saddlemen R&D Race shop in Long Beach, California.

“We were really excited when it was announced Baggers would be racing with MotoGP this year. We wanted to represent the USA and put on a good show for the international viewers,” said Saddlemen’s David Echert. “We only decided to do the special design at Daytona, and am really impressed how hard everyone worked to make it happen. The bikes and the suits came out better than we expected and are attracting a lot of attention. This livery might be making a comeback at more MotoAmerica rounds!” ■

Wyman Wins Mission King of The Baggers Opener at Daytona

Harley-Davidson Factory Racing’s Kyle Wyman won a game of cat and mouse with S&S Cycle/Indian Motorcycle’s Troy Herfoss in the Mission King of The Baggers battle at Daytona International Speedway in March with Wyman crossing the finish line just .018 of a second ahead of the Daytona first timer.

The win was the 13th of Wyman’s Mission King of The Baggers career, which extended his mark as the winningest rider in the class. Herfoss, meanwhile, finished second not long after earning continued on page 16...

his first MotoAmerica victory in the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship race earlier in the day. In that one, Herfoss successfully broke away from the pursuing pack in the infield and held on to the finish line. Wyman’s teammate James Rispoli came in third.

I’ve never won the first race of the year, so it’s a big deal for me to start off the season like this,” Wyman said. “I’ve always left the first round on the back foot, whether we came here and had mechanicals or had a problem at the first Atlanta race. It just feels amazing to get the win to start the year.” ■

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Adds Bagger Class

AMATEUR NATIONAL BAGGER CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BAGGER RACING LEAGUE

The 2024 Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days has joined forces with the Bagger Racing League to add an amateur Bagger racing class to this year’s event.

The program in 2024 will shake the ground in a new way with the addition of big V-Twin engines and the visual spectacle of full-faired Bagger motorcycles at speed. For the first time, the AMA Amateur National Bagger Champion will be crowned at Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, and it’s certain to be a highlight of Saturday’s on-track action.

Harley-Davidson rider Kyle Wyman kicked off the 2024 King of the Baggers season with back-to-back wins at Daytona. Indian rider Troy Herfoss came in second place and Harley's James Rispoli came in third in both races as well.

AMA-chartered promoter Bagger Racing League is partnering with the AMA and WERA to promote and operate the amateur championship class.

“Baggers were built to tour, but in the right hands and with the right modifications they become some of the wildest racing machines on the planet,” said BRL founder Rob Buydos. “The roar they make, how they move around and attack the corners is amazing to watch, and race fans are in for a serious thrill at Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days this year. BRL is thrilled to bring this fabulous racing action to VMD for the first time during the 100th year celebration of the AMA itself.”

Classic racing motorcycles from decades past will command the freshly repaved curves of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, during 2024 Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 26-28. America’s grandest celebration of vintage motorcycles will honor eras old and new with national championship racing on one of the country’s favorite road courses.

“Mid-Ohio’s 2.4-mile road course, with its legendary Keyhole and Carousel sections, has a fresh coat of asphalt and is ready to welcome a full slate of vintage road racing during VMD,” said AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier. “Classes will include handshifted pre-war racers, non-current superbikes, modern machines and everything in between – even sidecar rigs. The AMA appreciates our organizing partner WERA Motorcycle Roadracing and their efforts in growing and supporting the program.”

Amateur road racing entry information will be available soon. It will be posted, along with rules and additional competitor information at: www.vintagemotorcycledays.com/racing/road-racing.

Staged at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features vintage and post-vintage competition in motocross, trials, hare scrambles, road racing and dirt track. In addition to demo rides of current production bikes, the event includes North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet, bike shows, motorcycling seminars, the Crossroads and more.

Coinciding with the AMA’s 100th Anniversary, the 2024 event is poised to be the biggest ever, with early interest at unprecedented levels and more new events to be announced soon.

AMA members can purchase discounted tickets and secure tent camping spots through the AMA at www.vintagemotorcycledays.com/tickets. Tent camping is for nonreserved, non-self-contained units only, and spaces are first-come, first-served. ■

CRUISE CONTROL STEADY CROWDS, SALES AT DAYTONA BIKE WEEK

Daytona Bike Week is the unofficial start of the riding season each year, which means it is also the first gauge for what kind of year it’s going to be for the motorcycle industry. Dealers and industry professionals come away from Daytona with a sense for what the latest trends are, what riders are excited about and whether or not customers will be spending their money at dealerships and rallies this year.

Drag Specialties National Sales Manager Greg Matter was on hand at Daytona Bike Week, so we checked in with him to get a report about what he saw there, and how we can expect 2024 to shape up.

Overall, Greg says, this year’s 83rd Bike Week was a solid one, and it looked a lot like last year’s in terms of attendance. According to the City of Daytona, attendance at the 2024 event was up 2 percent over 2023. That may not sound like a lot, but with an estimated 668,700 visits to the three hubs of Bike Week activity, two percent is some nice growth. It should be noted that the city makes a distinction between

visitors – of which there were 423,300 – and visits, meaning people were returning multiple times throughout the week.

Teddy Morse’s Daytona Harley-Davidson was Drag’s base for all of Daytona Bike Week. The Drag Specialties truck was set up there, with this year’s catalog cover bikes on display for riders to check out. Additionally, attendees got a look at Drag’s Dealer Training Tour bikes. Those bikes have all been upgraded with parts from a variety of Drag Specialties vendors, so not only do they look great, but they are also a way to inspire riders about the possibilities for their own motorcycles.

In addition to the Drag display, the “Drag Strip” at Teddy Morse included Figurati, Kodlin, Klock Werks, Legend Suspensions, LePera Motorcycle Seats, SP Connect, and Saddlemen.

Greg notes that the steady attendance translated well into foot traffic at the dealership. “There seemed to be a steady flow of people all week and especially on the weekends,” he says. And, while extra people during the two weekends that open and close out Bike Week are expected, it was nice to have the weekday visitors, too.

20 DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE ★ JUNE 2024 EVENT REPORT
Photos by Marilyn Stemp except where noted Some things change and some stay the same: Main Street in Daytona at night is still the place to be during Bike Week.

“The bike shows at the dealership and the annual Flying Piston Bike Week Builder Breakfast and Charity Auction all drew good crowds, also,” Greg adds, highlighting the fact that, as always, there is plenty to do during Daytona Bike Week.

Over at Daytona International Speedway, MotoAmerica kicked off the 2024 racing season. King of the Baggers riders competed in two six-lap races, and Factory Harley-Davidson’s Kyle Wyman won both with last-lap passes. Racers clocked their V-Twins up to as high as 182 mph on Daytona’s high banks.

And, over at Volusia Top Gun, the new Slyfox Drifter Cross series challenged V-Twin riders to get through a timed stunt course. Drag Specialties is a sponsor of this new way to showcase stunt riding, and the opening round of the 2024 season drew a robust entry list as well as enthusiastic fans.

One facet of the industry that is really booming right now is the Performance Bagger scene. With a growing list of available products, the rise of Bagger racing, the new Drifter Cross series and pro riders pushing the limits of what’s possible on a V-Twin, it’s no surprise that Performance Baggers are doing well.

That popularity should translate into sales opportunities for dealers. Riders want quality products to help them get the most out of their V-Twin. “The Performance Bagger trend seems to be alive and well as riders are realizing how much the riding experience can be improved with upgraded suspension and performance,” Greg says.

The many Drag vendors who were set up at Daytona Bike Week had positive feedback for Greg, as well. They reported steady business throughout the event, with sales that were comparable to what they experienced in 2023. That data backs up the attendance numbers, and further supports the prediction that 2024 is going to be a steady year that will feel a lot like last year. And, for many in the industry, that’s a good thing.

You can talk with your Drag rep about helping your customers make the most of the 2024 riding season with new parts, products and gear. ■

Herfoss Takes Control

NEW CHALLENGER UPENDS MOTOAMERICA MISSION KING OF THE BAGGERS CHAMPIONSHIP

It might be a bit too soon to say that there’s a new sheriff in town in the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers Championship, but it’s not too early to say that this new guy is most definitely fast on his S&S Cycle/ Indian Motorcycles Challenger.

The new guy is three-time Australian Superbike Champion Troy Herfoss. And, after three rounds and six races, the new guy is leading the 2024 Mission King of the Baggers Championship by nine points over the winningest rider in series history, Kyle Wyman.

Herfoss didn’t waste much time in introducing himself to Wyman and the rest of the King of the Baggers crew as he raced to two second-place finishes in the series opener at Daytona International Speedway. He only lost out by a scant .018 of a second in race one, and by .137 of a second in race two. Wyman won those two races, with his Harley-Davidson Factory Racing teammate James Rispoli third in both at the World Center of Speed.

Daytona, like the rest of the tracks that the Mission King of the Baggers series will visit in 2024, was all new to Herfoss, but he proved to be a quick study.

Thus, with the series heading to Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, for its second round, it was easy for naysayers to mumble under their breath “Daytona is Daytona, let’s see what this Aussie bloke has when they get to some racetracks with corners.”

Turns out, he was pretty good at COTA as well.

Herfoss scored his first Mission King of the Baggers win in race one in Texas. With the two races held in conjunction with MotoGP and the Grand Prix of the Americas, Herfoss beat Wyman to the line in race one, and finished second to the Harley factory rider in race two. Herfoss’ teammate Tyler O’Hara was third in race one with Rispoli taking the final podium spot in race two.

Okay, okay – let the hype die down and let’s see what Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta has to offer as far as a challenge for the new guy, they said. Take this, Herfoss replied. Times two.

With one race in the wet and one in the dry, Herfoss strutted his stuff with wins in both races at Road Atlanta, despite it being a notoriously difficult track to learn with its blind corners and iconic esses – all bordered by red Georgia clay. Wyman finished second to Herfoss in race one, but struggled to fifth in the difficult conditions of race two while his new rival simply rode away from the field.

Herfoss and his crew went with slick racing tires for the drying surface in race two and so did his teammate O’Hara. The rest of the field went with full rain tires, and it proved to be their demise. Herfoss walked away from the field, winning by an unheard of 13.8 seconds. With his win and Wyman’s fifth, Herfoss took over the lead in the title chase, 135-126. ■

SEATS FOR 2024 TOURING MODELS Countdown to Comfort

The winter months used to be the ideal time for aftermarket companies like Saddlemen to develop products for the next year’s motorcycle models. It was a great setup – new bikes would launch in the late fall, and by the time riding season rolled around in the spring, all those new products would be in stock and ready for installation.

Things went a little differently this year. Harley-Davidson released its 2024 Touring models at the beginning of the year, giving aftermarket companies a narrow window for getting products developed in time for riding season.

Thanks to decades of experience and a dedicated, talented team, Saddlemen was able to make the most of that short timeframe, and the Road Sofa and Step-Up seats for ’24 Touring models are now available.

Saddlemen relied on its extensive knowledge and resources to act quickly. That ability allowed the new seats to be developed efficiently and expertly, with the same attention to detail that goes into every new Saddlemen seat. Despite the shorter turnaround time, the new seats have the same quality and excellent fit that riders expect from Saddlemen.

There are now 12 fitments for both the Road Sofa and Step-Up seats, fitting 2023 CVOs and 2024 Road Glide and Street Glide models. Having these seats in stock means dealers can help their customers get an instant upgrade in comfort when they come in to buy a current-model Touring bike. The seat is the biggest barrier between the bumps in the road and the rider’s body. Swapping the stock seat for a Saddlemen seat is a fast, easy way to greatly improve comfort.

The Road Sofa is designed to be the ultimate long-distance Touring seat. It provides premium comfort for both the rider and passenger, so even those days of covering 500 miles or more is no problem. With plenty of versions and additional accessories available –like heated seats, extended seats for taller riders, Tour-Pak pads and backrests – it’s easy for a rider to configure just the right setup for their cross-country journey.

24 DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE ★ JUNE 2024 COVER STORY SEATING
Saddlemen now has fitments of its popular Step-Up seats for the 2023 Harley-Davidson CVOs and the 2024 Road Glide.

Features like tall lumbar support and a wide driver seating area add to the Road Sofa’s comfort, while the streamlined nose makes it easy to reach the ground. A split-cushion design helps reduce both tailbone and back pressure. And, when off the bike, an included rain cover fits over the seat to keep it protected from the elements.

The Step Up, on the other hand, is a performance-minded seat. While it also provides a comfortable ride, the Step Up is more commonly found on Performance Baggers, and it is often the choice of riders who want to push their motorcycle to its limits. The seat’s ergonomics, which includes tall lumbar support, are designed to keep riders locked in place so they stay in control. Even the foam density of the Step Up is configured differently to let riders better strut their stuff.

Both the Road Sofa and Step-Up seats feature Saddlemen’s proprietary – and revolutionary – Gel-Core Technology. The Road Sofa has it in both the driver and passenger seats. The Step Up comes standard with Gel-Core Technology in the front, though it can be included in the passenger seat, as well.

SaddleGel is the integral element in Gel-Core Technology, which is engineered to dampen, divert and deflect energy from the road. Each Saddlemen seat is designed to conform to the rider’s body, reducing pressure points and eliminating the “hot spots” that cause discomfort. When compared to a stock foam seat, a seat with Gel-Core Technology enables a rider to comfortably stay on the road up to 400 percent longer, while generating up to 92 percent less road shock and 50 percent less road vibration.

Gel-Core Technology is paired with Ultra-Foam, which is specially designed for durability and comfort. During the molding process, the foam undergoes a self-skinning process that seals the foam, making it resistant to the elements, including water.

Both new fitments for the Road Sofa and Step-Up seats are part of Saddlemen’s popular custom seat program. This program allows a rider to choose seat elements like the stitching color and design, or even add custom embroidered artwork.

Riders who are still on the fence about making a comfort upgrade to a Saddlemen seat can try one out through the Saddlemen Seat Center. A Saddlemen seat is installed on the rider’s bike, and they get a few days to try it out. If they enjoy the seat, then keeping it is as simple as calling the dealer and telling them to run the credit card on file. If they want to try something else, they can come in for a swap. Your Drag rep can give you details about hosting a Saddlemen Seat Center. ■

TRAINING FOR DRAG DEALERS

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA – APRIL 11, 2024

By the time the 2024 Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour rolled into the Highway 39 Event Center in Anaheim, California it had already worked its way across the southern U.S. after kicking off at Daytona Bike Week.

Dealers at stops across Texas and Arizona had already enjoyed the exclusive audience with a select group of vendors that the tour offers. When it came time for the lineup of vendors to give their deep dive into their diverse product lines in Anaheim in early April, the whole operation ran like a well-oiled (V-Twin) machine.

Those vendors arrived to an eager audience of more than 100 dealers, at least one of whom made the hundred mile journey from Ventura, California up north, and others from some of the far reaches of Los Angeles County. Drag reps John Potts, Jason Rayburn and Ted Stollman all had dealers attending. If you know much about commuting in and around Southern California, you know making a journey like that is a task.

But it was worth it. Product specialists from Cobra Engineering, Custom Dynamics, Legend Suspensions, Michelin and Rekluse all offered the assembled dealers a detailed education about the product lines and companies.

It’s the kind of in-person training that’s available exclusively only to dealers attending the Training Tour events.

As the owner of nearby Lifestyle Cycles, Drag dealer Mark “Junior” Skolnick jumped at the chance to attend the Dealer Training event when he heard about it from John Potts, his sales rep. Junior and a crew of four employees headed down to the event space that’s packed with classic cars and vintage automobile memorabilia.

“We brought people who can benefit from learning about the products,” Junior said. “The knowledge base that we got from the vendor reps was fantastic. Getting to learn about the products in a detailed way was huge for us. We want to consume as much info as we can, and be on the front line in knowing what products are coming out.”

And they got it in five dynamic presentations. Some of the vendors focused on products, while others talked about their companies, technical details, new developments and support options available to Drag dealers. Each Training stop features five vendors, with three groups of vendors on the whole tour focusing on different regions for a total of 15 vendors. The events also include a night of food and refreshments.

Junior added that it was great having the event so close to his store as they also got in-store visits from Drag’s National Sales Manager Greg Matter, Regional Sales Manager Ronny Huckabee, and from some of the vendor reps on the tour.

“It was great getting to see them and getting that face-toface time as they’re talking about their product line and the companies,” Junior said. “I can’t even begin to explain how great this product education is. All our people who were attending work the parts counter, do E-Commerce and do support. Every one of them rides bikes and is very technical. Every single person in those departments needs to know everything.”

That education is just one of the benefits of the event. Dealers who attend the Training Tour stops are eligible to receive exclusive discounts and incentives from the vendors on the tour. Junior noted that Lifestyle Cycle placed a substantial order from the vendors that night.

Story and photos by Dennis Johnson getting in-depth product education from a handful of vendors, Drag dealers had a chance to check out some of those parts installed on the lineup of FatBook customs.

Drag’s National Sales Manager Greg Matter explained that for each of the stops on the tour, those discounts are in effect for a week after the Training stop. “Sister stores of the attending dealer also receive these discounts,” Matter said. “Most vendors at each Training stop also offer a special program like an extra discount or BOGO that’s only available to attending dealers.”

As an added bonus to all that great product education and those valuable discounts, the Training Tour is accompanied by the Drag Specialties big rig that’s packed with a lineup of custom FatBook bikes, including the 2024 catalog cover bike. Those bikes features a range of the very parts and accessories offered by the Tour vendors, each of them a rolling showroom that allow dealers and employees to get an up-close-and-personal look at the products.

At the Anaheim event, the bikes were lined up outside for the dealers to eyeball, sit on, and in the case of the 2024 FatBook cover bike built by Fat Baggers Inc., listen to the delicious whine of the Trask Performance Tornado Turbo Kit while the bike’s throttle was revved. Talk about a fun night of Show and Tell!

Make it a point to talk with your Drag rep about attending a Training Tour stop in your area should the whole show come rolling through your area. “I encourage you to make the time to attend the Training,” Matter said. “The relationships you can develop with the vendors and other dealers are worth the time alone, and the extra discounts are a bonus to add to your bottom line in the busy season.” ■

STREET-READY PERFORMANCE BAGGER GO FOR THE GOLD!

Drag Specialties’ annual Dealer Training Tour for 2024 is underway! As in past years the popular road show visits key sites across the country, allowing Drag dealers and their employees to meet face to face with vendor representatives who present and discuss their company’s all-new products, as well as updates on existing inventory.

As part of the Training Tour, the traveling dealer show features modified project bikes boasting all-new custom parts that are available to Drag dealers from the FatBook. One of this year’s Training Tour bikes is based on a popular Touring model,

the 2022 Harley-Davidson FLTRXS Road Glide Special that’s featured here. This Performance Bagger spearheads the Tour, and is joined by a modified 2020 Street Bob hot rod cruiser (not featured). Both bikes were modified by Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson in Thiensville, Wisconsin, where Joe Houpt and his seasoned crew performed the actual parts upgrades. You can be excused if you blinked twice the first time your eyes focused on this modified Road Glide. Thanks to its bevy of high-performance aftermarket products, this front-line Touring bike looks very much like a race entry you’d see on the starting grid of the Drag Specialties Bagger Racing

League’s new Barnett Clutches & Cables Super Street Class. In keeping to the BRL/performance theme, the Street Bob also boasts products that not only appear in the FatBook, but that you’d also see at a BRL support-class race.

Now let’s take a closer look at the black-with-gold trim Road Glide in this issue, a bike that Houpt describes as “essentially a carryover from the racetrack. In fact, these are the types of products that can be found on bikes lined up for the BRL’s 2024 season. There’s the Klock Werks 6-inch Kolor Flare Windshield and the Legend Suspensions’ REVO-ARC Remote Reservoirs 13-inch Rear Shocks. The low-slung Trask V-Line Black 1¼-inch

handlebars that replace the OE high-rise bars suggest this bike could be a refugee from a BRL racetrack brawl.

However, it’s not a race bike. This is a street-legal road bike, one that takes the popular Performance Bagger concept to the next level. “We decided during the NVP in Louisville this past winter to feature the Performance Bagger theme for the 2024 Dealer Training Tour,” said Greg Matter, Drag Specialties’ National Sales Manager. “Tom Motzko worked with the vendors to select many of the products used, and Joe (Houpt) from Suburban Motors helped with final parts selection before work began on both bikes.”

Joe Houpt and his crew of professionals at Suburban Motors gave this bike the Performance Bagger make-over, making it as much of a go-bike as it is a show bike.

THE MIDAS TOUCH

That said, let’s see exactly what Drag Specialties dealers are in for when the Dealer Training Tour visits their part of the country. For that, a quick walk-around the Road Glide can tell the story. We’ll start with its Gold on Black color scheme. “I’ve always favored gold parts on custom bikes because it (gold) not only gives a different look to the bike, it looks rich,” Houpt said. Buoyed by that approach he gave the bike the Midas Touch, starting with the Arlen Ness Custom Forged Billet Gold Speed-5 wheels – 19 inch front and 18 inch rear. Add to that the Inverted Ness fork legs equipped with Legend Suspensions’ 49mm Performance Front Suspension, Ness Black Fork Tubes shielded with Ness Method Gold Fork Guards, plus other related Ness black-finish components for contrast, and you have a rather eye-catching black Bagger.

Houpt liked what he saw in Dunlop’s American Elite tires, too, so the boys from Buffalo got the call for the rubber hoops. When this Road Glide’s rubber hits the road, it does so on Dunlop’s 130/60-19 front and 180/55-18 rear tires.

As your wandering eyes have probably noticed, there’s even more gold to be found on this flamboyant FLTRXS. We can start with additional Arlen Ness Custom parts, specifically the Gold Brake Calipers that bite down on 14-inch Big Brake Rotors – dual full-floating fronts matched with the single rear fixed rotor.

Yet there’s even more gold to be mined from the Ness strike-it-rich claim! Houpt included a Ness Rotor Adapter Kit, Diamond Gold Handgrips, Gold Clutch and Brake Lever Set, plus left- and right-side Gold Teardrop Mirrors. There’s also Ness MX Gold Driver and Passenger Floorboards with Gold Shift Pegs. By now you’re probably wondering if the bike’s first road trip should be to Fort Knox.

PEP AND PIZZAZ

A Performance Bagger has to have some performance parts and this custom includes a Vance & Hines stainless *2-1 Supersport exhaust system, a V&H *Falcon Air Intake and the company’s *FP4 Fuel Management System.

2022 FLTRXS ROAD GLIDE

CUSTOMIZED BY SUBURBAN MOTORS HARLEY-DAVIDSON

Regardless of a destination, this bike was going nowhere until the lads in Suburban Motors’ service department tended to the Milwaukee-Eight engine. The goal was to give it a little more pep and visual pizzaz. Behind the popular and distinct Barnett Scorpion Clear/Chrome Derby Cover you’ll find a Barnett Scorpion Clutch Basket packed with a Barnett Pressure Plate, and Extra Plate Clutch Kit. For added reliability and aesthetics there’s a Performance Machine Chrome Scallop Transmission Top Cover, too.

Finally, the new Vance & Hines Stainless Steel 2-into-1 Supersport Exhaust System *(EMIS Code 3) radiates a subtle, yet striking, old-school charm and beauty that’s been matched with another popular V&H component, the Falcon Air Intake *(EMIS Code 1). With those two components accounted for, Suburban’s tech specialist hooked up the Vance & Hines FP4 Fuel Management System *(EMIS Code 2) to assure proper fuel and air mix for optimum performance on the road and, yes, even on the racetrack if necessary.

Already packed with that ensemble of all-star custom aftermarket goods, Suburban’s build crew elected to include a little more glitz to go with the gold upgrades. We’re talking about tapping into Custom Dynamics’ huge assortment of custom lighting components for Harleys. Houpt and the build crew looped 13 different Custom Dynamics part numbers into the mix to create a rather colorful rolling light show. That baker’s dozen of products drastically improved the Bagger’s visibility, and Custom Dynamic’s Chrome Dual Tone Air Horn added some volume that’ll make ‘em sit up and take notice.

But there’s still one thing missing; we have yet to mention the most important component of all – the rider! For that Houpt and crew opted to place the Road Glide’s rider atop the low-slung black Saddlemen Tour Step-Up seat that features a full lattice gold stitch pad. We can’t forget the passenger, either, which accounts for the Cobra Detachable Chrome Backrest with Lock Kit, and Cobra Chrome Case Guard Bar tacked to the bike’s rear section.

As you read this, the Drag Specialties’ Dealer Training Tour is in full swing. Hopefully your dealership can attend this year’s tour when it rolls into town. If so, there’s no doubt that this Performance Bagger, modified by Suburban Motors, will play an integral role, all the way to the finish line.

Keeping Custom Bikes Rolling

A Tire Partnership with Count’s Kustoms

Growing up, it was tough for Shannon Aikau’s dad to get parts to build custom motorcycles in Hawaii, but Avon Speedmaster tires were readily available, so he relied on them often. Working on cars and motorcycles is in Shannon’s blood, since his father and grandfather took up the trade before he did. There was no doubt he’d be building bikes someday, too, and these days, Shannon is the Head Fabricator for Count’s Kustoms in Las Vegas. When the legendary shop and Avon tires began a partnership in 2023, it was like coming full circle for Shannon.

“I didn’t believe it!” Shannon says of his reaction to the partnership announcement. “I talked to a few folks, and some tires showed up. Next thing you know, we’re putting them on every build that we do now.”

The Cobra Chrome tires are most often used for Count’s Kustoms builds, and for good reason. “The tire is the perfect blend for the street; it’s sticky but it lasts,” Shannon explains. “Once you break them in, it’s on. I sometimes ride aggressively, and they stick to the ground!”

Of course, looks matter just as much as performance. “It looks aggressive without being too aggressive. The design of the tire is perfect,” Shannon notes. The cool, but low-key, design of the Cobra Chrome tires makes them a great choice for virtually every style of custom at the shop.

“It has just been great working with Avon,” says Samantha M. Frontiera, Custom Motorcycle Shop Manager for Count’s

Kustoms. “Avon tires have a great reputation, reliability and performance. Being able to use Avon products on our rides – whether it’s a stock bike we’re customizing or a trike – has just been great. They’re super simple to install, and the Cobra Chrome looks incredible and rides even better.”

That ease of installation is another reason Shannon loves Cobra Chrome tires. “I’ve never had an easier tire to put on a rim and balance out,” he says. “This one beads easily. I don’t have to mess with it. You set the air pressure, balance it and throw it right back on the bike.”

Currently, Count’s Kustoms is building its third bike for Camp Freedom in Pennsylvania. The camp is a place for first responders and veterans, along with their families, to enjoy a well-deserved break. The bike is a 2000 Softail with 18-inch wheels. Because Cobra Chrome tires come in a wide range of sizes, accommodating that wheel size was no problem.

Another recent build with Cobra Chrome tires was a 2023 Road Glide built for a partnership between Howler Head Kentucky Bourbon and the UFC. The bike promoted Dana White’s 12 Days of Giveaways.

Whatever stunning custom bike comes next from Count’s Kustoms, you can trust it will be fitted with Avon tires. ■

Freedom Flyer

American Flags Designed for Harley-Davidsons

Freedom. This is a word that carries a lot of weight, history and meaning for riders of American motorcycles in the United States. In honor of that freedom – the freedom to build and ride motorcycles among other things – many choose to display their pride and show their thanks by making the American flag part of their motif.

The riders and motorcycle customization professionals from Ciro have introduced a way for bikes to display American pride permanently and proudly with the brand’s LED lighted American flag.

This flag is mounted to a metal flagpole that’s available in chrome and a satin black finish. The sleekness of this patriotic accessory is enhanced with two hidden rows of six LED lights that shine a bright glow of light over the flag. This kit includes everything needed to wire the flag into a customers’ motorcycle’s existing light wiring, or it can be powered by any 12-volt source.

The best part about the LED lighted American flag from Ciro is its versatility. Almost every customer who walks through the door is likely to have a place to display their American pride. Thanks to the flag’s design and Ciro’s selection of various mounts, the lighted flag can also be mounted on everything from motorcycles to UTVs.

Among these mounts from Ciro is a kit for any of your Harley-Davidson Road Glide, Road King or Street Glide customers, as well ½-inch and ¾-inch tube rail mounts for wide range adaptability. Regardless of where the flag are displayed, customers will appreciate the versatile supplies included from Ciro that cover all the bases to finish the job quickly. On top of that, each flag is covered under Ciro’s customerfirst, three-year warranty, and is also backed by its limited lifetime warranty against LED failure.

Do you have customers that want to put their patriotism on display but don’t want to wire anything? Ciro has unlit flag poles with American flags as well, sharing the same polished stainless steel and satin black options and mounting versatility as the lighted version.

Major modifications like engine, exhaust, and paint set the stage for every Harley build, but the finishing touches can add that extra bit of flash to tie everything together. Help your customers dial in their American-made look with Ciro’s LED lighted American flag. ■

Handcrafted Power

American-Made Exhausts for Performance, Style

In a world full of mass manufacturing, it’s nice to know there are still companies who value craftsmanship and quality. Bassani Xhaust is one of those companies. A motorcycle’s exhaust system is an integral part of making a bike go, but it’s also one of the biggest contributors to how a bike looks.

Bassani takes performance, looks and even sound into consideration for every exhaust they handcraft, like the new Road Rage 2:1 system *(EMIS Code 3) for FXR models.

This latest system is fitted with one of Bassani’s popular 4-inch Super Bike mufflers, giving an FXR an instant upgrade in performance and style. The lines of the exhaust are designed to enhance the bike’s look, making it a quick way to really change up the style of a stock or custom bike.

The Road Rage 2:1 stainless steel system is a great example of Bassani’s commitment to quality craftsmanship. The process of building a Bassani exhaust begins with selecting the materials. Bassani sources its steel from American mills, allowing the company to carefully choose quality steel that is both strong and able to provide a higher level of heat protection.

The steel components are TIGwelded by hand at Bassani’s headquarters in Anaheim, California. The handcrafted look is paired with a precision fit and finish, so riders know the Road Rage 2:1 system will fit perfectly on their FXR.

The Road Rage 2:1 system features stepped, equal-length headers that flow from a diameter of 1¾ inches into 17/8-inch pipes. This design is engineered for maximum performance, giving a bike a boost in both horsepower and torque.

Bassani’s newest system for FXRs includes a 4-inch Super Bike muffler. This racing-inspired stainless steel muffler is also TIG-welded by hand for a true craftsman finish.

The matching billet end cap completes the look. Inside, there are O2 ports with adapters and plugs as well as a removable baffle.

The Road Rage 2:1 system with a Super Bike muffler has become a popular combination, thanks to the power, style and sound it produces. The unmistakable Bassani sound is a key part of any Bassani exhaust.

The team at Bassani is always hard at work producing new styles and fitments, like this option for FXRs. It is the latest in a wide range of full systems and slip-ons for both Harley-Davidsons and Indians. ■

Since its inception, competitive stunt riding has been a subjective sport. A rider goes into the arena, shows off their skills, and then a panel of judges decides who did it best. The new Drifter Cross series is changing the game by making stunt riding a true test, with only one judge – the clock.

Slyfox founder Alex Fox and his good friend Shawn Bell came up with the Drifter Cross concept as a way for stunt riders to compete against the clock. “The way you’re going to win it is by being the fastest. It’s not a stunt competition that’s judged,” Alex explains. “Either you’re fast or you’re not. The way the winner is determined is non-biased.”

The concept of Drifter Cross is simple; a course is set up, and a rider has to get through it while the clock is running. Any mistakes result in time being added. For example, if a rider is supposed to be doing a full drift circle around an obstacle, and they hit the obstacle in the process, a second will be added to their time. It’s important to not just go quickly, but to be clean, too.

While the concept is simple, actually doing Drifter Cross is not. This series is designed to really test the competitors, resulting in an incredible display of control and skill. Drifting, J-turns and even jumps are on the list of potential tasks required to get from start to finish.

And if you’re picturing light, nimble bikes performing those tasks, then think again. The series is designed as a showcase for V-Twins. In fact, Alex says there aren’t any real restrictions for the entrants, adding, “It’s run what you brung! We’ve got Sportsters to Baggers to everything in between.”

Alex does note, though, that early-frame Dynas and Baggers fitted with skinny performance tires tend to be the most popular choice for Drifter Cross.

Drifter Cross made its debut last year at Willow Springs Raceway during the Bagger Racing League weekend. That first event was really a way for Alex to test the waters. Would riders turn up to compete? And how would the fans react to this new style of stunt competition?

DRIFTER CROSS IS STUNTING AGAINST THE CLOCK

As it turned out, plenty of riders entered the event, and the fans were enthusiastic about the format. That initial event allowed Alex and the rest of the Drifter Cross team to fine-tune the concept and turn it into a full series.

For 2024, there are eight rounds in the Drifter Cross series. Five of them are standalone events, so they will each be a winner-take-all format. However, the schedule also includes the Triple Crown, which will be the three events held in tandem with the Bagger Racing League. Those three rounds will have a points chase, with a champion crowned at the end of the run.

Not surprisingly, riders are eager to be the first Drifter Cross champion. The bike requirements might be run what you brung, but serious competitors are ready to take it to the next level.

“One thing we think that’s cool is that the community is getting together and figuring out how to build purpose-built bikes for this event,” Alex says. “Guys are getting more in-depth with building bikes, and even putting together teams like you’d see at any sanctioned race.”

At the same time, the series provides the perfect proving ground for stunt riders who aren’t big names in the sport yet. “It’s not just bringing out riders who have a name for themselves in the stunt community,” Alex notes. “It’s also bringing out the more grassroots guys. We can showcase people who aren’t known in the social media world; they have the talent, but no one knows who they are.”

The 2024 Drifter Cross season kicked off at Daytona Bike Week, and 26 riders put on a great show for several thousand spectators. The course was set up in the parking lot of Volusia Top Gun, which is another point in favor of the series – it’s racing that doesn’t require a racetrack.

“The audience was really engaged. Everyone liked that they’re rooting for a guy to get the fastest time,” Alex says. And, when a rider finished their run, “you could see everyone’s eyes go to the clock.”

There’s no waiting for judges to turn in a score, and no debates about whether there was bias or if someone was robbed of the win. It’s an instant-gratification competition, with the clock showing riders and spectators alike who’s at the top, and who isn’t.

For Alex, this is the best of both worlds. He grew up around racing, and his Slyfox brand features high-performance V-Twin parts often seen on the racetrack. At the same time, Alex loves the talent and enthusiasm in stunt riding. “Drifter Cross is the perfect way to intertwine racing with the stunt community,” he says. ■

Summer Rides

Tire Options for V-Twins

With spring wrapping up and summer on the horizon, that means plenty of riders are hitting the road, whether it’s a local trip or a long-distance journey to the next rally. Tires need to be ready for everything from performance-minded riding to long days on the road, and Metzeler has a solution for each.

The Metzeler Cruisetec tire is a performance-based tire designed specifically for V-Twins, making it an ideal choice for riders who like to explore the limits of what modern V-Twins can do. For long-distance riding, the Metzeler ME888 tire is a classic touring option that offers great reliability, mile after mile.

The Cruisetec has the strength and styling to fit a VTwin plus the performance characteristics of a sport tire. This can especially be seen in the profile of the Cruisetec, which is steeper than that of a traditional V-Twin tire. Inspired by sport-touring profiles, this gives the Cruisetec better handling and stability.

still all V-Twin, so the tires are right at home on the bike.

V-Twin riders heading out on long-distance trips can rely on the Metzeler ME888 tire for longevity as well as reliability even in wet weather. The ME888 has a tread pattern that efficiently evacuates water, but it is also designed to wear uniformly for increased longevity.

That uniform wear contributes to the smoothness of the ME888 tire. The tire will feel smooth and stable at all speeds, and that characteristic will remain consistent even as the miles add up.

If

The rear Cruisetec tire has a dual-compound design, so V-Twin riders get the longevity they want as well as a great balanced feel. Both the front and rear are designed to perform well in all conditions, too. The tread pattern provides excellent grip and water evacuation.

Altogether, these characteristics of the Cruisetec tire make it a predictable tire that performs well both in a straight line and through the corners. V-Twin riders can take on twisty roads and highways alike. And there’s no need for them to worry the tires will look out of place: the styling is

With more than 90 different sizes available, the ME888 can be paired with just about any V-Twin. In addition to more recent models, it can be used on older bikes that need an update as well as custom builds. With sizes going all the way up to a 23-inch front tire, there are a lot of possibilities for how to use the ME888. There is a white wall version, too, for riders who want some color contrast or a great vintage vibe. ■

Better Breathing

TNew Billet Head Breathers

here’s a hurricane raging inside that HarleyDavidson Milwaukee-Eight engine. Every time the pistons rise and fall in the cylinders, hot, oily air rushes back and forth in the crankcase below.

Harley puts a breather assembly in each cylinder head to vent the pressure and purge the oil, but it’s not an ideal system. That’s why S&S Cycle applied its engineering know-how to the problem and came up with the new Billet Head Breathers as the solution.

These new Billet Head Breathers are suitable for 2017 through 2024 M8 Models (except 20232024 CVO and 2024 Street Glide/Road Glides) and are more durable than the stock parts. They provide better sealing and superior oil separation for increased engine performance and reliability. Machined from billet 6061 aluminum and anodized in iconic S&S blue, the parts feature a unique labyrinth design that more reliably reduces oil pass-through compared to the stock assemblies. And, because they’re made from metal rather than plastic, the S&S breathers won’t distort or crack and leak.

internal labyrinth rather than a mesh, so saturation isn’t an issue. On top of that, the Breather Blocks are sporting double O-rings for optimal sealing.

To effectively precipitate oil out of the whirlwind leaving the engine, S&S opted for a maze-like pathway that’s the result of extensive testing with various wall thicknesses and spacing. Within each breather, the labyrinth provides over 5½ inches of travel. That long pathway allows plenty of time for the oil to condense and fall into the drain holes strategically placed around the labyrinth. This system provides effective oil separation no matter the run time, and can’t get over-saturated. The labyrinth also allows the mist to flow continuously without stopping for more effective pressure reduction inside the engine.

In

The factory breathers are injection-molded plastic, and they mate to the head with a single Oring. Inside there’s mesh that’s supposed to catch oil vapor, like the way an air filter catches dirt. However, once that mesh gets saturated it struggles to do its job. Sure enough, the stock breathers can degrade, distort, and crack due to extreme heat and vibration. When the breather fails, it can allow oily air to go right into the intake, choking the engine.

The S&S Billet Head Breathers are made from aluminum, so heat and vibration aren’t a threat. They also utilize an

Head breathers may be small parts that rarely see the light of day, but they play a critical role in an engine’s function. It makes sense to install quality parts that have been extensively engineered and fully optimized for performance and reliability. ■

2024 Road Glide Build

Custom Kitted for Improved Fit and Function

THRASHIN’ Supply Company came into existence because of Lance Coury’s desire to improve the function, fit, and style of his and his friends’ Harley-Davidsons, and that thread runs through everything THRASHIN’ does. Case in point, the crew’s new 2024 Harley Road Glide, which the guys have started to customize so it handles better, fits them better, and of course, looks a whole lot cooler.

Company founder Coury, lead engineer Juan Arceo, and lead tech Cole Seely got acquainted with the new Road

Glide with a few hundred miles of spirited riding around Los Angeles, and then rolled it right into the shop. “We wanted to tear into it to see exactly what parts are compatible with the newer style bike, and we were able to kit it out quite a bit in just a couple of hours,” says Coury.

Most of what the guys installed were existing parts, but the Bagger Mid Bend bars for 2024s is a new product that’s just been added to the FatBook. THRASHIN’s popular Mid Bend has been around for a decade, but it took some tweaking to work with the ’24. “We had to redesign it slightly since the new bike has a different throttle assembly, but now it’s turnkey and ready to rock for the 2024 baggers,” says Arceo.

The 1-inch diameter bar fits the factory controls and is drilled for internal wiring, with knurling for the clamps and a laser-etched THRASHIN’ logo along the bend. The Mid Bends were a great comfort mod for the bike, especially when combined with a set of THRASHIN’s OG risers.

“We went with the 9½-inch OG Pull Back Risers because we wanted the bars to be a bit closer, and these follow the 35-degree angle

THRASHIN’ Supply Company hauled in a 2024 Harley-Davidson Road Glide and gave it a major makeover with a big lineup of the company’s parts and accessories, all of them designed improve fit, function and style. Out with the old, in with the new. THRASHIN’s founder Lance Coury (right) showcases the new 2024 fitment Bagger Mid Bend handlebars and 9½-inch OG Pull Back risers. of the fork so the added height puts the grips closer to you. There’s that pullback as well that moves them even closer,” says Coury. “It feels a lot more natural and less stretched out,” says Seely, who knows that comfort correlates to confidence and control.

Another thing Seely was quick to point out is that none of them like the way Harley rubber mounts the controls. “We’ve collectively ridden tens of thousands of miles on these bikes and we all agree, hard-mount the risers and hard-mount the foot controls,” says Seely. “People think it’s going to be more comfortable with the rubber mounts, but it doesn’t feel that way to me,” adds Coury, “and you can definitely control the bike better when everything is hard mounted.”

To that end, the stock, sloppy riser bushings went in the trash, and the guys dropped in a set of their Solid Riser Bushings. These machined aluminum inserts totally eliminate the excessive movement of the stock setup. THRASHIN’s solid bushings are an affordable and effective upgrade that makes the bike far more responsive to steering and brake inputs.

Down at the foot controls, a set of Apex Floorboards, the Adjustable Bagger Brake Arm, EZ Shift Inner Arm Lever, TSC Billet Shift Lever, adjustable Bagger Shift Linkage, and other parts helped refine the Road Glide’s fit, and dial things in just the way the guys like.

“Like the factory risers, these stock floorboards have all this play built into them that numbs feel,” says Coury. The boards also scrape pretty easily. A set of billet Apex Floorboards, with their smaller overall size and angled outer edge, were just the ticket. Raising them half an inch with the Apex ½-inch Lift Kit allows for even more lean angle, and rigid mounting gives the rider solid footing.

Shifting and braking duties were improved with the Adjustable Bagger Brake Arm on the right and the EZ Shift Inner Arm Lever, TSC Billet Shift Lever, and adjustable Bagger Shift Linkage on the left.

The stock brake lever is fixed in place way up above the floorboard, awkwardly out of reach. With their background in motocross, both Coury and Seely prefer a more accessible rear brake, and the 2-inch shorter Adjustable Bagger Brake Arm brings the lever tip closer to the rider’s

boot, with the ability to tweak the lever position by up to 1½ inches.

Likewise, the stock shifter is floating way out in space, but with the TSC Billet Shift Lever and adjustable Bagger Shift Linkage the guys were able to pinpoint the shifter’s location exactly where they wanted it. Throwing the EZ Shift Inner Arm Lever on also helped reduce shifting effort, making it easier to find neutral or bang through the gears while ripping around.

Finally, they ditched the derby cover in favor of the Finned Five Hole Derby Cover, with its contrasting fins that match the look of the cylinders. “That 117 badge had to go,” says Coury, “because we’re definitely going to make the motor bigger.” These simple function, fit, and style mods are just the start for this Road Glide, so stay tuned for more from the THRASHIN’ team. ■

Control Cables

Whether it’s a stock bike that needs a fresh set of cables or ape hangers that require longer cable lengths, Barnett Clutches & Cables has the solution. The company has a full line of cables in both stock and custom lengths for HarleyDavidson, Indian and Victory models. Different lengths and a variety of casing styles help riders get just the right size and look for their bike.

Barnett’s throttle, cruise control, brake and clutch cable assemblies are all made in the USA at the company’s headquarters in Ventura, California. While the length and casing are both important features, a cable’s quality and reliability are even more important. Barnett control cables deliver the performance and consistency that riders want.

Cable housings are lined with Teflon, Nylon or HDPE. All these materials help ensure reliable performance and long cable life. Plus, clutch cables for all applications have Barnett’s high-efficiency, nylon-coated inner wire, which

is lubricated with silicone for smooth operation. The result is that the clutch cable provides flawless action and reduced lever effort.

These control cables are offered in five different casing options. In addition to the traditional black vinyl and stainless steel braid, there is also the Stealth black-on-black look as well as the bright, silver-plated braid of the Platinum Series.

The newest casing in the lineup is the Carbon Coat, which is available for both cables and brake lines. Featuring black chrome hardware, this is another look for a stainless steel braided cable, so riders have more choice than ever when it comes to changing up the look of the bike without sacrificing performance.

Both the casing and stainless steel wire rope that Barnett uses are carefully selected and manufactured. The cables do not flex or stretch, so operation remains consistent. The braided options have a protective clear coat that Barnett guarantees will not discolor from sun exposure, so the cable will continue to look great.

Barnett also has hydraulic brake and clutch lines in stock and custom lengths, and there are even applications for ABS lines. These cables are available in the same five casing options.

Taller handlebars require longer cables, and Barnett offers throttle-by-wire extensions to make the change an easy plug-and-play job. There are four lengths available, ranging from 8 inches all the way up to 20 inches. These extensions are an exceptionally easy way to lengthen cables since no soldering or modifications are required ■

Turning It Up Small Turn Signals Are a Big Upgrade

Turn signals play an important role in the operation of a motorcycle, but they can also make a big difference in a bike’s style. Custom Dynamics offers both LED inserts and complete turn signals to amp up the brightness and looks of a Harley-Davidson.

Lighting solutions like the ProBEAM Dynamic Ringz and Genesis 4 Halo-Free Front Turn Signals are direct LED inserts that replace the OEM bulbs. This is a simple, five-minute swap that makes a significant difference. Not only are the LEDs much more brilliant than the stock incandescent bulb, but their design gives a modern, sleek update to the look of the bike. Plus, with Custom Dynamics turn signals, motorcycles are more visible to other vehicles on the road. These easy upgrades are an improvement in every way.

ProBEAM Dynamic Ringz feature a bright white outer ring, which serves as a running light. In the center of the LED insert is a full-contrast amber turn signal. These lights come packaged with smoked lenses to complete the look.

The Genesis 4 Halo-Free Front Turn Signals transform the front end of the bike thanks to 48 super-bright, dual-color LEDs. The white running light is incredibly bright, and when the turn signal is activated, the color switches to full amber. The LEDs are mounted on a black circuit board.

Custom Dynamics also offers complete turn signals, including housings, to help riders get the performance

Bagger look without compromising safety or visibility. The sleek, low-profile housings give the bike a big style upgrade. Thanks to the LEDs, the turn signals are even brighter than the OEM version despite being in a smaller housing.

Dynamic Strips for Electra Glide, Ultra Glide and Street Glide models are turn signals in such slim aluminum housings that they virtually disappear when mounted to the bike. These are a simple plug-and-play replacement for the stock turn signals, and they make a big difference in the front-end aesthetics.

Inside the slim housings are ProBEAM LEDs, including white running lights and full-contrast amber lights. The white LEDs automatically deactivate when the turn signal or hazard lamps are activated, making the amber LEDs pop even more. The lights sit behind a smoked lens, and the housing comes in a chrome, black or contrast finish.

The Low Profile Road Glide Turn Signals are also tiny turn signals with a big impact. Like the Dynamic Strips, these low-profile turn signals feature an aluminum housing and a smoked lens. They are available in a chrome, gloss black or gold finish. ■

Oil Changes Made Easy Start

the Riding Season Off Right!

The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the highway is calling. Your customers’ Harley-Davidsons are coming out of hibernation and it’s time to hit the road. However, they should really kick the ride season off with fresh fluids. Oil changes are the most crucial piece of bike maintenance, so steer your customers toward Maxima’s V-Twin Oil Change Kits to help make the chore as easy as possible.

The Full Change kit takes things a step further by including not only the transmission oil and filter, but also primary oil so there’s fresh fluid in both sumps. Whichever kit your customers choose, they can rest assured knowing that the lubes exceed OEM specifications and are specially engineered for V-Twin engines. That means Maxima’s VTwin oils are extremely shear-stable, and cling to metal surfaces for superior protection under the extreme heat

Whether you’re selling one of Maxima’s “oil change in a box” kits to someone to use at home or your techs are deploying them in the service department, Maxima’s V-Twin Oil Change Kits for Harleys are the king of convenience. Forget looking up the oil weight and quantity, the part number for the oil filter and drain-plug gasket, and walking around to pull each part. These kits package everything that’s needed for an oil change into one box, and they come in two forms – the Quick Change and the Full Change – with applications dating back to the early 1980s.

With the Quick Change kit, riders get the appropriate amount of Maxima’s V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50 or V-Twin Mineral 20W-50 (depending on OEM recommendation), plus a fresh drain-plug O-ring and a ProFilter premium spin-on filter in either black or chrome. To make oil changes even easier, Maxima’s ProFilters have a nut welded to the end for easy removal.

and loads those air-cooled engines experience. These oils are also highly oxidatively stable to attain the extended change intervals required for many Harley engines.

Why change the oil at the start of riding season? Over the winter, the oil in your customers’ transmissions and primaries has not aged well. Even just sitting there, it’s degrading. That’s because moisture in the air and combustion byproducts that are lingering inside the engine oxidize and acidify the oil. There are ingredients in motor oil that help preserve the lube’s integrity, but the absolute best course of action is to start the riding season with fresh fluids.

Of course, Maxima’s ProFilter, V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50, and other lubes are available on their own as needed, but getting them packaged together — with the exact parts and quantities needed for a given Harley model — is undeniably convenient. ■

Fresh and Affordable New Tires for Pre-Owned Bikes

Pre-owned inventory can be a reliable profit center and door-swinger for dealers and is the lifeblood of some independent shops. When preparing a trade-in unit for resale, minimizing labor cost and choosing quality replacement parts are important considerations. But a new set of performance tires can quickly erode margins. What’s the shrewd dealer to do?

Now available to Drag dealers in 14 sizes, including the ever-popular 180/55-18 rear, Kenda’s K6702 Cataclysm tire offers fitments for most American and metric V-Twin tourers and cruisers.

Ohio-based American Kenda knows dealers need to maximize their pre-owned margins, and controlling the costs of getting wholesale and trade-in units ready for the showroom floor can be an effective way to do just that. In fact, of all the replacement parts required to update a pre-owned bike, tires are likely to have the highest cost. By choosing to put a set of Kenda Cataclysm tires on a pre-owned V-Twin, dealers can improve margins while still giving customers a quality tire with excellent performance characteristics.

The addition of the new 180/55-18 size to the Cataclysm lineup grows the fitment list even further, covering most new and pre-owned V-Twin models. Between this latest addition and the other sizes available, there is a Cataclysm tire to fit virtually every pre-owned V-Twin that rolls in.

Kenda designed the Cataclysm to strike the perfect balance of performance, quality, and price. Dual-compound technology gives the tire improved mileage for straightline highway miles while the shoulders were designed for outstanding stability in the corners.

When the weather turns wet, the Cataclysm’s tread grooves efficiently disperse standing water, and Kenda’s proprietary compounds excel on wet surfaces. At the same time, the tread and construction are designed to keep wear more even, reducing cupping and uneven wear characteristics. Riders can be confident that their tires will continue to give them the same control and feedback for thousands of miles. ■

One-Shot Solution

User-Friendly Engine Additives

Measuring the right amount of engine or fuel additive is as simple as grabbing one of LIQUI MOLY’s motorbike shooters. These additives come in just the right size for a motorcycle engine, so there’s no need to do any measuring or pouring. Just one shot is all you need for machines with a small tank and oil volume, which means an engine can get a boost in less time and with zero mess. And furthermore, there’s no danger of overdosing the additive.

LIQUI MOLY motorbike shooters are designed specifically for motorcycles with a tank volume up to 10 liters and an oil volume up to 2 liters. The formulation and application correspond with LIQUI MOLY’s regular motorbike additives, which come in handy for bigger machines. Since there are a variety of shooters available, it’s possible to pick the right additive for a motorcycle’s needs. Whether it’s an older bike that needs a refresh or a bike that could use some performance help, there is a LIQUI MOLY shooter for it.

The Motorbike Engine Flush Shooter is a great product to add just before changing the oil. The additive goes into the old oil and collects harmful deposits and sludge in its path. When the old oil is drained, the additive and all those contaminants go with it. That way, the oil system is refreshed and ready to go when the new oil is added. Because it thoroughly cleans the engine, the Motorbike Engine Flush Shooter helps restore the engine’s performance, lengthens the engine’s life and lowers emissions.

While this shooter is strong enough to clean out the engine, it is gentle on seals and gaskets.

The Motorbike 4T Shooter helps maintain that clean engine after an oil change and engine flush. By adding a Motorbike 4T Shooter, residues and deposits are reduced while engine performance is enhanced. The shooter prevents carburetor icing and guards against corrosion. Another bonus is that fuel mileage is improved, helping a motorcycle not just run better but more economically, as well.

Another great choice for engine protection is the Motorbike MoS2 Shooter. The shooter has MoS2 particles, which are a solid lubricant that excels at reducing metalon-metal contact. In all, the Motorbike MoS2 Shooter minimizes friction and wear, and it reduces both oil and fuel consumption. This shooter is an ideal additive for hard-working engines.

Anyone looking for a performance edge can add the Motorbike Speed Additive Shooter to their gas tank. This little bottle of liquid has a big impact. It improves acceleration and combustion to help ensure an engine is running at an optimal level. Engines also start easier, and the shooter’s cleaning and protective characteristics make sure things continue to run smoothly. ■

DRAG SPECIALTIES DEALER:

FATHER & SON SUCCESS

Many locals know the distinct look of A&A Cycle's building. Whether a new customer passing through, or a lifetime client, all are welcomed through the doors of this compact operation. Parts, service and accessories are provided for many years of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

A & A CYCLE WATERTOWN, SOUTH DAKOTA

Independent motorcycle shops are the unsung heroes of America’s motorcycle market. When matched against the big-as-can-be franchise dealerships spread across the country, these small, often family-run shops appear to be outgunned by those national brand dealers who rely on customer-friendly point of purchase displays and highvolume flooring inventories to capture sales.

Yet, at the end of the workday successful small shops serve equally as the go-to source for enthusiasts armed with shopping lists earmarked for replacement or aftermarket parts for their motorcycles. In addition, these dealers can offer their own style of personable service to each customer’s motorcycle. Those and other sales features are especially within reach for small shops that are linked with Drag Specialties’ vast warehouse chain that provides immediate and prompt parts for their customers.

Specifically, one of those successful non-franchised dealers relying on close business ties with Drag Specialties also happens to be a “father and son business.” Welcome to A&A Cycle, a sizable and efficient motorcycle shop in Watertown, South Dakota. Located near U.S. Highway 81 and U.S Highway 212 – a very popular Sturgis Route – the shop is owned and run by Rob Angland and his 31-year-old son, Robb Angland.

The origin of A&A Cycle can be traced in a roundabout way to several other independent motorcycle shops that had previously employed the older Angland as their service technician in the 1990s and through the mid-2000s. Rob grew up in Watertown, where, as a motorcycle enthusiast, he gained a reputation for his motorcycle knowledge and advice. These days he recalls how his story of becoming a service tech began when the independent shop he frequently bought parts from was looking for another service technician.

DRAG DEALER PROFILE

FAMILY COMMITMENT

The newly created A&A Cycle business started as a joint effort between father and son, a business commitment to their shared passion for motorcycling. “We opened our shop a couple weeks after my high school graduation,” said the younger Angland. The shop’s name, A&A Cycle, is a nod to Rob and Robb’s name, but also a reference to their shared partnership in the business.

The two jumped right into establishing the shop, with then 18-year-old Robb getting a crash course in running a business along with his dad. It was a ground up build – so to speak – and both of them put in the hard work required to run an independent shop. “We built it together,” Robb recalls. “It’s been a team effort and it’s been challenging.”

Part of that learning and building process involved recognizing how important relationships were as a key to success. We’re talking relationships with customers, suppliers, vendors and, in this instance, Drag Specialties.

As the business grew, a major goal was to affirm a tighter relationship with Drag Specialties. Recalls Robb, “Our first Drag rep that changed our business was Andy Munsterman around 2016. He worked hard with us, and taught us how important a good rep can be to a small shop’s business plan. He showed us things we had never had exposure to. He really changed our parts ordering.”

“I said yes,” recalls Rob, “but he wanted to pay me $7 an hour and I wanted $7.50.” They both agreed to let the flip of a coin make the call. Today Rob reflects on the outcome of that coin toss in his rather stoic tone: “I started at $7.50.”

No doubt, that flip of the coin proved to be a good omen, and Rob the elder began his new official career as a motorcycle mechanic, spending his days working on other peoples’ bikes, all the while affirming his skills with Harley riders in the area. When another independent motorcycle business took over that same spot, they hired Rob as their service tech. To be clear, both of those businesses included – at separate times – Rob Angland as their service tech. “I became rather familiar with that building long before my son and I moved our new business into it in 2011,” Rob said.

A few years later Munsterman left Drag, and today A&A Cycles’ Drag rep is Ben Johnson. “He (Ben) had Andy as a rep before and shares a lot of the same work ethic,” Robb notes, “so our business continues to run smoothly!”

Those two dedicated Drag reps also urged, at separate times, for A&A Cycle to participate in as many Drag Specialties’ NVP shows and annual Dealer Rides as they could, reminding them how those functions lead to lasting relationships with vendor reps whose industry knowledge helps keep small shops like A&A Cycle updated on current and future products. However, there was no real need to prompt father and son to do so because Rob and Robb are diehard motorcycle enthusiasts. As such, they attended their first Drag Specialties Dealer Ride in 2019, the Road Runner Run in Tucson, Arizona, and they never looked back. They already had (and have) a long and established understanding about Harley motorcycles. And with that Robb is

The title may say Standard, but it is far from it. Equipped with many parts available in the FatBook, it's often referred to as the "kid bike" by the younger Angland.

quick to volunteer this bit of family information: “Dad rides the ‘kid’ bike and I ride the ‘old man’ bike!” To be clear, the ‘old man’ bike is a 2019 Ultra Limited, and the ‘kid’ bike is a 2019 Electra Glide Standard – that features a nitrous oxide system, a combination good enough to help launch the otherwise sedate ‘kid’ bike through the standing quarter mile in 11.04 seconds (without the nitrous!).

RECOGNIZED BUILDERS

By mixing business with pleasure (and by following the advice of their past and present Drag reps) many other Drag Specialties dealers have become familiar with the bikes built by the father and son, who have attended many of those annual dealer/vendor gatherings. Participating in the Drag activities furthered their business reach thanks to valuable product and marketing information gleaned from the experienced and successful people that the two encountered at the Drag Specialties functions.

In 2023, the Drag Dealer Ride in Greenville, South Carolina – the Upcountry Run 2 – offered the Anglands an added perk alongside all that great business intelligence and shared camaraderie. Rob and Robb and their independent shop A&A Cycle were named Dealer of the Year, an honor bestowed upon a chosen Drag dealer at each dealer ride. Not usually one for the limelight, Robb said that the recognition was a big deal for him and his father. “It was an honor to be recognized in a way we were never expecting,” Robb said.

Harley enthusiasts who attend the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally might be familiar with Rob and his rapid Electra Glide Standard, too, because the Anglands are regular visitors to the rally. In fact, Robb was only two years old when he first was strapped to the back of Rob’s 1992 Electra Glide Ultra Classic to start riding passenger. His mother and father then loaded the toddler on the back of Rob’s Harley for that cross-state ride to the Black Hills for the first time in 1995. In 2007, Robb prepped a used 1989 XL883 – his mom’s old Sportster! – for his first solo ride to Sturgis. He and his dad have attended the rally ever since, with Robb having gone to Sturgis over 25 times in his 31 years.

Meanwhile, back at the shop A&A Cycle has involved itself in more than a few custom bike projects, among them working with Brian Klock to restore a former Drag Specialties FatBook catalog bike. That bike was originally built in 2004 and featured a Paughco rigid frame and springer frontend – certainly a popular look for a custom at the time. The Anglands used the opportunity to also breathe some new life into an older tube frame Buell S1 that needed some TLC.

So, with the end goal of bringing both motorcycles back to life, A&A started out by swapping out the Drag bike’s S&S Cycle 100-inch engine with the mildly tuned motor from the Buell. The idea was to give that FatBook bike a more sedate powerplant that suited the bike’s old school aesthetic, and get it show-ready once again. That Buell, in turn, was modified to receive that S&S monster motor – a great fit being Klock was looking to take that bike to the drag strip. “We were able to swap engines and take two otherwise unused motorcycles and make them whole again,” Robb said.

The road ahead for A&A Cycle includes continuing parts and service for all Harleys, but especially for those powered by Milwaukee-Eight engines and Twin Cams that populate the highways and byways of America. To do that, A&A’s parts source continues to be the FatBook and OldBook. And, of course, Rob and Robb have no intentions of missing out on future Drag Specialties Dealer Rides and Sturgis where the father and son shop owners can easily meld into the crowd so that they, too, can enjoy the finer points of life as Harley owners and enthusiasts! ■

BUILDING A HEAD-TURNER

WOLVERINE HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S CUSTOM 2021 ARCTIC BLAST FLHXS

No one rides a stock bike, right? And with the thousands of parts packing the FatBook, there’s no reason to. Franchised dealerships and independent shops alike only need to open the cover or log on to the website to give a customer’s bike a cosmetic facelift or performance tune-up that will set it apart at the local bike night or drag strip.

Wolverine Harley-Davidson in Clinton Township, Michigan, has raised the bar on this concept with a 2021 Arctic Blast Street Glide Special. Their Service Manager Dave Nagy, Parts Manager Matt Verstrat and the team there customized it for the Drag Specialties dealership’s owner, George De La Nuez. No question, the motorcycle had tons of character on its own, but given the opportunity to amp it up, Dave and Matt were ready. Better still, the owner’s main guideline to his crew was a customizer’s dream: “Do what you think looks good!”

So, with that unrestricted directive and a boss to please, they knew this would be more than a bolt-on build. They started by taking the bike apart and giving the engine a stage 4 upgrade, adding a *(EMIS Code 3) Bassani 2-into-1 brushed stainless exhaust to address both looks and power.

After that? “We don’t like recommending products that we wouldn’t use on our own bikes, so it was all quality brands

from the top names at Drag Specialties,” said Nagy. The only problem? Narrowing down the selection.

Some choices were deemed necessary – there’s a Klock Werk’s Flare windshield and LA Choppers 10-inch Twin Peaks bars with ODI V Twin Black Grips. Custom Dynamics LED turn signals front and rear were sourced to increase visibility, and Performance Machine brake calipers would handle braking with reliability and solid style. Suspension performance and ride comfort were important so there’s a Legend Suspension front cartridge and REVO ARC Remote Reservoir rear shocks, with the remote units relocated topside. A Saddlemen seat addresses rider comfort and properly fits the bike’s profile.

In the beauty department, Dave said, “I didn’t want to take away from the paint on the bike. It’s a looker just the way it comes.” But they added tasteful touches of black and blue metallic powder coating for pops of color, hid the pesky antenna, and snuck in a couple of surprises. Among them – the dealership name and logo are laser engraved on the *(EMIS Code 3) Trask Assault air cleaner cover as well as on the derby cover. A clearcoat over the top enhanced these elements with a cool shadow effect.

Drag Specialties’ National Sales Manager Greg Matter appreciates such efforts. “It’s always exciting to see the results

Something about that Bassani 2-1 stainless steel exhaust makes it look fast, even when the bike is sitting still.

The upgrades installed on the 2021 Harley-Davidson Custom Arctic Blast FLHXS offer a cool, cohesive look. The Klock Werks Flare Windshield, ODI grips and Saddlemen Step-Up seat look right at home.

Any rider would jump at the chance to indulge their custom visions without restriction and the Wolverine team was no different. But, even with the options wide open, they chose well-designed, tasteful and functional parts that addressed the rider’s needs while maintaining a classy balance and a price point within reach of most bike owners.

As Nagy related, this build process reflected the team’s esteem for their boss and the cohesive camaraderie among the Wolverine staff, many of whom have worked at the dealership for years. As Nagy indicates, the positive attitude comes from the top. “It’s the way George runs the dealership. He has high expectations. He’s tough but he’s fair, and he expects us to treat everyone and each other with integrity and appreciation.”

This beauty certainly held its own among its peers, turning heads in the parking lot at the Drag Specialties Upcountry Dealer Ride 2 in Greenville, South Carolina last fall. Better still, Nagy had the pleasure of piloting the bike over the weekend, and he reports that it ran extremely well, both on the highway and in the twisties. It’s proof

positive you don’t need a welding torch or an English wheel to build a head-turning custom. Just good taste, the right parts and the FatBook ■

Oversized Support Brackets for Bigger Rotors

Riders who are serious about the look and performance of their V-Twin know that every little detail matters. At the same time, dealers know those details can make the difference between an easy upgrade and a frustrating time in the service bay. Galfer USA had all of these things in mind when design ing brackets for the brand’s oversize rotors for Harley-Davidsons.

Whether they are standard or oversized, brake ro tors at Galfer are meticulously designed. The model they are being developed for is brought into the Galfer USA headquarters in Carson City, Nevada, and everything is engineered to have a perfect fit, finish and function. Each new product is tested and refined until it is ready for production.

When the team at Galfer USA began working on the oversized rotors for Harley applications, they realized they also needed to design a way to install them that would support the larger size while also providing a perfect fit on each bike.

The result is five different oversized relocation brackets. There are versions that work with the stock calipers as well as options for aftermarket radial-mount calipers. All the brackets are de signed and manufactured in the USA.

It was important to get the fit just right for these brackets. The Galfer team knows dealers deserve hassle-free installation, and riders want something that will look great on the bike. That meant engineering the brackets to be extremely precise.

In addition to easing installation, this also means the brackets allow the braking setup to perform optimally. The rotors sit at just the right position to the calipers and pads, so the pads will wear evenly and stopping will be strong and predictable. With these brackets, Galfer oversized rotors perform with the same precision and power that riders have come to expect from the company’s products.

The brackets are made from 7075 aluminum, which is known for its outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. This makes it an ideal choice for a part that is tasked with keeping the brake rotors in place. Each bracket is anodized black for a strong protective finish.

Each oversized relocation bracket arrives with everything necessary for installation, such as bolts, washers, spacers and dowels. No modifications are needed to accommo-

More Power! Robust V-Twin Charging Systems

Over four decades of professional experience and a lifetime of passion for motorcycles is a formula for success in the V-Twin world. Cycle Electric was founded more than forty years ago, and since then, has gained an immense amount of experience in manufacturing motorcycle charging systems.

Charging systems for motorcycles have a seemingly simple job but are a critical component for providing the electrical power that motorcycles need to function. The team of experts at Cycle Electric has dedicated themselves to ensuring they can provide a high-quality and trustworthy solution for a vast spread of riders. In fact, Cycle Electric’s offering of complete charging systems covers Harley-Davidson models dating from 1936 all the way up to the present.

Throughout its history, Cycle Electric has always shone a spotlight on providing an American-made solution. The company manufactures all its generators, regulators, rectifying regulators and stators in its Brookville, Ohio manufacturing facility.

In the business of serving Harley and V-Twin customers, one thing is certain: You never know what kind of bike or rider is going to roll/walk through those doors. From vintage restorations to modern builds and even fully custom

projects, having a supplier like Cycle Electric to lean on for offering an applicable charging system product truly comes in clutch.

Despite its thorough selection of products covering so many applications, the development team at Cycle Electric continues to analyze customer needs and fill gaps where needed. Case in point, a couple of Cycle Electric’s latest product additions include a three-phase charging kit for early 2000s Super Glides as well as alternator kits for the same bikes, plus 2000 Softails.

Customers with these models will benefit from the three-phase, 38A charging kits and alternator kits by being able to get the charging power needed to keep their bikes operating reliably, whether they’re just replacing worn out components or supporting their electronic accessory upgrades.

Regardless of the exact use, Cycle Electric newly releasing products for earlier model machines shows its team keeps their finger on the pulse of the V-Twin market and doesn’t want to leave any rider behind. ■

ASerious Stopping Upgraded Brake Products for Older Harleys

s a growing number of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts have become major league fans of Bagger racing the past couple years, diehard Evo and pre-Evo owners – for that matter even Twin Cam owners, too – continue to restore, modify or custom ize older Harleys to their liking.

Belt Drives Ltd. continues to supply those dedicated enthusiasts with custom and performance parts for their projects. BDL has been active in the Harley aftermarket for more than half a century, and the Southern Californiabased company is best known for its belt drives (primary belts and final-drive belts) as well as for its heavy-duty clutch components.

In addition, in 2008 BDL extended its reach into the Har ley aftermarket when it acquired tooling and marketing rights to GMA Engineering. A major portion of the GMA package included part numbers for custom and performance hand controls and foot controls that fit not only pre-Evo and Evo models, but Twin Cam bikes as well.

GMA front brake master cylinder is machined for 5/8-inch or 11/16-inch bore, depending on its specific application. Small internal cam locks help position and hold the front hand brake control in place.

GMA’s switch kits include everything needed to upgrade a bike’s switches and controls for a stripped-down, custom look. New wiring harnesses and control modules help streamline installation.

Known for their precise engineering qualities, the GMA hand controls create many options for upgrading popular early-model Harleys to accept hydraulic front brakes and hydraulic or mechanical clutches. The GMA front brake hand controls also include integrated master cylinders, necessary when mounting hydraulic disc brakes. All hand control systems are made from CNC-machined billet aluminum, then given black anodize, chrome or natural finishes for a complete custom look, or to match BDL’s GMA Engineering foot controls.

The GMA hand control kits fit 1-inch diameter handlebars, and include mounting clamps and levers to maintain a complete and uniform appearance. Each

Matching perches for mechanical clutch hand controls are available, too. All assemblies are made from CNC machined billet aluminum that’s finished in black anodize, chrome or natural finish.

For a complete assembly, BDL also offers GMA Engineering Switch Kits that are designed to easily integrate the bike’s electronics with the brake and clutch hand controls. The Switch Kits include a 48-inch wiring harness, brain box and hardware. And, like BDL’s hand and foot controls, the Switch Kits are made in the USA. ■

Powered Up Keeping Devices Charged and Secure

These days, most of us don’t go far without a mobile phone. That means motorcycle riders have to make plans for their phones and other electronics so they will be easy to view and stay securely in place. From how to mount a phone to the bike to making sure electronics are charged up, RidePower has the solution.

RidePower has a wide range of products, including phone charger cables, power connector cables, power adapters, phone mounts, portable power banks and even power banks that are strong enough to jump start a bike.

USB phone charger cable includes adapters so the cable will work with USB-C and lightning ports, as well, making it incredibly versatile.

A variety of mounts allow phones to be placed just about anywhere a rider might want one for easy access and visibility. The handlebar mount is a great example of what sets RidePower apart. All-metal construction is rugged and durable, and ball-mount technology allows the phone to be positioned at just the right angle. The adjustable mount securely clamps onto all devices up to 4 inches wide and ½-inch thick, so most smartphones and handheld devices can be accommodated.

To make it even better, RidePower products are designed for powersports, which means they are more durable than typical chargers, connectors and mounts. They are designed to resist water, snow, dust and dirt, so they can be used for any segment of powersports, including motorcycles, side-by-sides, ATVs and watercraft, too.

RidePower first entered the market in 2014 with a charging cable. Company founder Steve Young wanted a charging cable for his phone, so he designed one that connected directly to the SAE battery connector. Advanced electronics ensured the connection was safe for both the phone and the battery. Steve realized there were a lot more riders who could use a charging cable just like it, and he began to offer it for sale.

These days, RidePower has a variety of charging cables that have an SAE connector end. The original SAE to Micro

For riders who want a double dose of backup power, the portable power bank with a solar panel has two USB ports and built-in, dual-beam LED lights. The small, lightweight power bank has enough capacity to charge a phone up to 3 times, and the solar panel helps maintain the charge so the battery will last even longer.

RidePower also offers a power bank with a jump start kit. With up to 600 peak amps, this compact power bank can get you up and running again instead of sitting on the side of the road, waiting for help. The battery bank and cables come in a carrying case so it’s easy to add when loading up for a ride. ■

Turbo Kits for Milwaukee-Eights

n the encyclopedia of power-adding engine mods, everything takes a back seat to forced induction. If your customers are after insane power and a big, bold mod that stands out, point them toward the Trask Performance *(EMIS Code 3) Tornado Turbo Kit. With this bolt-on beast, your customers can expect a massive 40 percent to 50 percent increase in rear-wheel power from their 107, 114, and 117-inch Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight machines.

Big bores, cams, exhausts and other common go-fast parts all aim to move a larger volume of air through the engine in an effort to make more power. With the Trask Tornado Turbo, the compressor is forcibly cramming more air into the motor, effectively increasing the displacement of the engine.

The power gains are incredible, but the real beauty of the Tornado Turbo Kit is its completeness. There’s the Trask compressor and turbine housings with Garret internals, the beautiful mandrel-bent and TIGwelded stainless steel plumbing with wastegate, plenum, and exhaust. However, this kit also comes with all the other parts needed for installation. That includes larger injectors, spark plugs, a boost gauge with mount, oil feed and drain lines, and more. Add a Thundermax ECM and a proper tune and your customers will have a bike that will really set their hair on fire.

kit is perfect for the street as well as the track as proven on many high-performance Harley-Davidson race bikes, including Trask’s own winning Bagger Racing League M8 Road Glide.

Speaking of M8 engines, crankcase pressure problems are a known issue on the bigger M8s and Trask has a solution.

Whether your customers crave a bold and aggressive look, extraordinary performance, or a combination of both, the Trask Tornado is crafted to unlock the true potential of their Milwaukee-Eights. Unlike pistons and cams that get hidden away inside the engine, there’s no hiding the Tornado Turbo. It becomes an un-ignorable feature, whether the bike it’s installed on is on its kickstand or disappearing in a cloud of tire smoke.

With so much power on tap, another great mod is the Trask Sprocket Conversion. These custom steel sprockets replace the pulleys and make way for a 530 chain (not included) that has more tensile strength than the factory belt. The rear sprocket retains the stock cush drive isolator and has a ratio comparable to stock gearing. This

The Tornado Turbo Kit includes nearly everything needed for installation. Just add a Thundermax ECM and a proper tune and that power boost will be available at the twist of the wrist.

The CheckM8 Vented Transmission Cover alleviates excessive crankcase pressure issues by routing air through a billet-aluminum Boyesen one-way reed valve. ■

Beauty Meets Function

Eye-Catching Decorative Accessories

It’s the small details and the finishing touches that really class up a customer’s ride, and that’s where Figurati Designs sets a very high bar for customizing a motorcycle. Figurati Designs proudly offers jewelry-grade accessories for American V-Twin motorcycles. “It means the detailing, the materials, are all next-level quality, because it’s made in a dedicated jewelry factory, by trained personnel using specialized equipment,” says Figurati founder Kerry Cromer, himself a former jewelry wholesaler. “Jewelry-grade also means longevity. It’s meant to be an heirloom.”

New from Figurati is a series of patented Magnetic Oil Dipsticks that not only offer a selection of sharp looks, but have the potential to help extend the lifespan of Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam models. Another popular choice from Figurati are the company’s Back Fender Antenna Covers, which come in a wide variety of designs and finishes.

Figurati Designs’ new Magnetic Oil Dipsticks are a quick and easy replacement for the stock unit, and feature a beautifully crafted and easy-to-grip metal cap made from 316L marine-grade stainless steel with polished

jewelry-grade finish. The dipstick itself is magnetized to help catch unwanted metal debris floating around in the oil pan. This debris naturally builds up as the miles roll on, and can become like sandpaper inside an engine. Pulling out the bright yellow dipstick will easily allow your customers to see any built-up sediment, and simply wipe it away with a cloth. The Figurati Magnetic Oil Dipsticks are available in both silver and black finishes in a choice of curved or knurled styles to fit M8 and Twin Cam models.

When it comes to the Figurati Antenna Covers and Rings, these small, simple accessories add an eye-catching accent that will replace the stock rubber grommet on Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Your customers can choose from skulls, crosses, flags and more in a variety of styles that are not only offer a custom finish, but are a distinct way for your customers to personalize their ride. They are made from 316L Marine-grade stainless steel, and, of course, feature a polished jewelry-grade finish. All Figurati Designs accessories are guaranteed to stand the test of time, and come with a lifetime warranty.

Bearing Replacement Made Easy

High-mileage Harley-Davidsons often need their steering head bearings replaced, and Motion Pro has the tools to tackle the job. Leave the drift and hammer to the shade tree mechanics, and reach for the American V-Twin Steering Race Tool and Steering Stem Bearing Tool for HD to remove and replace bearings quickly and safely.

The Steering Race Tool features a 2-in-1 design that works to remove and install outer bearing races in the steering head. The kit includes an expanding puller for removal and a tapered driver for installation. Both components use a threaded rod with brass thrust washers and an anodized-aluminum cup that slips over the head tube and anchors the system. The American V-Twin Steering Race Tool works on most Dynas, FXRs, and early Baggers.

Outer races are a piece of cake compared to the tapered bearing pressed onto the lower triple-tree of many Harleys, but once again Motion Pro has devised a device to make the job go smoothly. The Steering Stem Bearing Tool for HD can tuck in between the steering stops and grasp the lower bearing race, then smoothly pull it off the stem. The same tool can then be used to drive a new bearing into place. ■

DBig Bagger Brakes

A Focus on V-Twin Racing

P Brakes’ sintered disc brake pads have been a mainstay in the FatBook for many years now. Now,

DP’s North American headquarters’ president, Larry Mills, feels the past three years especially have proven just how dependable the company’s sintered pads are at whoa-ing and slowing big Bagger motorcycles.

“DP Brakes has been an official contingency sponsor of Bagger Racing League competition for the past three years,” said Mills. “We’ve had enormous success sponsoring racers in various BRL classes since the inception of BRL racing. Now, for 2024, we’ve upped the ante to be title sponsor for BRL’s new Liquid Cooled Twins class. Obviously, we’re excited about this racing news. In addition, we’ll continue to support our existing contingency commitments in other forms of motorcycle and ATV and UTV racing, too.”

DP Brakes’ class sponsorship comes as BRL expands the Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers series for 2024. The new Liquid Cooled Twins class is open to qualifying V-Twin models of all platforms without identifiable touring accessories such as fairings, saddlebags and tour trunks.

While the big news for DP Brakes focuses on its support for Bagger Racing League Liquid Cooled Twins racing, loyal customers will still have access to the same dependable sintered disc brake pads known for their superior wet-weather braking, and noise-free and dust-free performance. ■

Protection for Fuel and Fluid Lines

Heat is the enemy of performance and durability for motorcycles. Maintenance and repair are expected costs, but investing in preventative measures like DEI’s new Fire Sleeve and Vapor Block™ keeps riders rolling down the road.

Fuel, coolant and brake lines carry vital fluids to keep bikes running, moving and cooling, but too close to a high-heat contact area and ride-ending leaks can form. Fire Sleeve protects these lines with a fireproof solution. Its highly durable construction of braided glass, woven material is coated with iron oxide silicon rubber for heat insulation and protection up to 2000°F intermittent heat, and 500°F direct heat.

Fire Sleeve is available for common fluid line sizes and includes DEI’s black Fire Tape to help seal the ends or meet two fire sleeves together during installation.

Besides the potential for heat and fire damage, high fuel temperatures can create big issues inside the engine, too. Superheated fuel can lead to rough idling and difficult

DEI’s Vapor Block provides long-lasting protection to fuel lines and helps prevent vapor lock. The company also offers Fire Sleeve for common fluid lines.

Designed for fuel boiling protection, Vapor Block from DEI installs easily around fuel lines and helps prevent vapor lock. The wrap’s durable construction delivers long lasting protection, especially against potentially expensive repairs down the road. ■

otorcycles’ grips are the direct connection between rider and machine. Based in Kingwood, Texas, Avon Grips focuses on this connection and is ready to equip HarleyDavidson riders everywhere with its latest Diamond Contour grips.

Avon’s Diamond Contour grips are a result of its commitment to produce grips that offer the best of both worlds in ergonomics and style. These grips feature a smaller diameter design compared to traditional Harley grips, and are carefully built with control-enhancing texture and plush comfort.

The Right Touch Building a Better Lever

Back in the day I thought a lever was a lever,” confesses PSR USA’s VP of Marketing, Charlie Hon. “But when you have precise adjustment capability, and CNC materials, it makes such a difference in the feel and feedback.”

As someone who was once admittedly unaware of the positive difference an aftermarket lever can make, Hon was eager to showcase the process behind the creation of PSR USA’s newest Harley-Davidson offerings. They are the Anthem Pro, the Journey Anthem and Anthem Shorty levers for the 2023 and 2024 CVO Touring models, and the 2024 Road Glide and Street Glide models.

When a new hand control is introduced, PSR springs into action, ordering the new factory lever. “We go through the 3D scanning, CAD and change whatever modified geometries to make it adjustable,” Charlie explained. “We build a prototype via 3D printing, which is done in the USA at our office in Pomona, California. Then we make any necessary adjustments.

“In the end, it’s all about our adjustability, which allows us to bring the lever closer to the grips, and/or modify the lever pull

angle to make it easier for the rider to actuate the controls. PSR levers allow for more precise adjustment and with the CNC materials, it gives the rider much better feedback.” ■

Controlled Tuning Performance Made Easy

Properly tuning a bike with performance mods can be complex – but it doesn’t have to be. Daytona Twin-Tec’s new *(EMIS Code 3) M8FI Gen 8 systems are designed to solve tuning problems on modified Milwaukee-Eight engines, from mild Stage 1 upgrades to turbo-blown beasts. There are fitments available for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring (2017-2020) and Softail (2018-2020) models.

Several key features of the M8FI system takes the guesswork out and put the easy in to helping a modified M8 engine run best. An important one is built-in Autotune, which simplifies tuning for customers as well as dealers. It was developed for simple use; you set targets for optimal air/fuel ratio and the bike adjusts to those targets.

Another distinctive element of the M8FI is the continuous, automatic data logging. It’s always collecting data without being turned on. And it stores data for the last 60 minutes of operation, whether on a dyno or on the road. That’s where the dealer’s service techs comes in. The provided software can read and pinpoint problem areas for precise tuning improvements, whether they occur at start up, idle or cruising. The system is fully programmable, and it supports all the modules on the motorcycle.

Kits come with a plug-and-play ECU, autotune wide band controller, wide band O2 sensors, and a USB interface. There are detailed videos online and software to download free. ■

arley-Davidson riders’ modifications and upgrades are influenced by two major goals – performance and style. Magnum Shielding’s control cables excel in both categories, delivering a balance of operation, durability, fit and style to Harley controls.

Control Cables for Harley-Davidsons

An example of this are Magnum’s throttle and idle cables. Every aspect of these cables is designed and built to perform incredibly and look just as incredible doing it. Precision-machined fittings and proprietary swivel adjusters ensure the cables perform properly in a wide range of riding scenarios and complement any bike’s style with a sleek finish.

Durability is enhanced with inner liners and heavy-duty inserts that serve as bearing surfaces against the cable. When coupled with Magnum’s anti-corrosion, synthetic lube, each finished cable passes Harley’s minimum endurance requirement of 1,000,000+ cycles, often beating it by another half-million.

Magnum Shielding’s control cables offer upgrades in performance and style over the stock parts.

Magnum cables’ premium finish quality is thanks to a thorough polishing process and thick chrome or black chrome plating, applied to Harley’s strict specifications. KCalculating Power Piston Tips for Vintage V-Twins

nucklehead, Panhead and Shovelhead piston choices and installation take some extra attention to ensure you are building the correct targeted compression ratio. KB Pistons helps make the process smooth thanks to an online compression ratio calculator and useful tips.

KB Pistons lists all the required specifications and dome volumes to accurately calculate compression ratios. There are a few dimensions the builder will need to supply, including deck clearance (the distance from the top of the piston to the top of the cylinder at TDC/top dead center), cylinder head volume, and compressed head gasket thickness.

The KB online catalog has a simple calculation form to determine the deck clearance. Once the deck clearance is established, go to the online KB Compression Calculator ( https://uempistons.com/p-27-compression-ratio-calculator), plug in all measurements, and find the correct compression ratio.

Standard replacement parts can be great in many maintenance situations, but customiza tion and upgraded performance can be better. The crew at the braking powerhouse, EBC, is very familiar with every level of the brake parts needed by your customers.

When it comes to upgrading their brake components, your modern V-Twin customers are looking for products that truly perform, and look great in the process. EBC’s Polished Stainless rotors for Big Twins are a savvy selection for those Harley-Da vidson riders who embrace performance.

Oiling Excellence

Premium Pumps for M8s and Twin Cams

Oil is literally what keeps an engine running, so doesn’t it make sense to use a quality oil pump? The factory oiling systems on Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam engines leave a lot to be desired, so the tuning pros at Feuling have engineered three upgrades to help your customers get the most out of their motors.

Feuling’s OE+ kit is a huge upgrade over the stock oiling system. Machined from 6061 aluminum, the OE+ oil pump and cam plate are more rigid and run tighter tolerances than the factory cast-aluminum assembly. With hand-lapped gerotor gears (that may be as much as 60 percent larger than stock depending on the model), the OE+ system pushes more oil through the engine at higher pressure, improving lubrication, cooling and power.

The HP+ and Race Series kits have all the same features as OE+ but are made from stronger 7075 aluminum for better durability. The HP+ system’s ports are matched to the engine cases and the internal passageways are contoured to further improve oil flow. The Race Series kit is optimized for performance engines with massive scavenging capability to prevent the flywheels from dragging in oil at high rpm.

The OE+, HP+, and Race Series oiling systems are three refined options that are designed to improve reliability and performance. They’re all made in the USA and are in stock and ready to ship. ■
