L

ike most of you, my 2023 calendar was filled with lots of motorcycling events to attend. They were all great fun, but none were more fun than the last event of the year, the Bagger Racing League finale at Willow Springs. What made it so much fun? For starters, Willow Springs is my old stomping ground from my racing years back in the 1960s and ‘70s. As Grand Marshal of the event, Rob Buydos asked me to take a lap around the track, and memories of days gone by flowed freely as I rode around there for the first time in over 50 years. When my ride was over, the current pros were on the track and some serious racing ensued. On lap 2 of the BRL final, defending BRL champ Shane Narbonne put his Trask-turbocharged race bagger past Team Feuling’s new rider, Rueben Xaus, a former MotoGP and World Superbike rider. This was a first-time Bagger race for Rueben, and he was looking faster and smoother every lap. Unfortunately, some extremely high desert winds blew in and for safety’s sake, the race was halted one lap later.

It’s been great to see how quickly Bagger racing has taken off since that first race in the fall of 2020, and its still growing. Look for even more events in the coming year. I can’t wait to see the next match up between Narbonne and Xaus. Check out our BRL Final report on page 20. Looking ahead, as we have done for many years, the first issue of the new year provides all the details of the 2024 Drag Specialties FatBook cover bike. This year’s visually stunning masterpiece started out as a 2018 FXLR Softail Low Rider, then Gary Chipp and his FBI team made it much more. Check it out starting on page 22. And lastly, January will find most of us together in Louisville for the Spring edition of the 2024 NVP Product Expo. Be sure to check out the product previews of what you’ll see in Louisville. That starts on page 44. I look forward to seeing you there. ■

he 2023 BRL Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers series concluded in November at Willow Springs Raceway in Southern California. It was a weekend filled with all six of the BRL V-Twin classes and a few other novelty events. After beginning my roadracing career in the late-1960s there at Willow Springs, I was more than happy to serve as the Grand Marshal of this year’s event. My bonus was getting to ride a Slyfox-outfitted street bagger around the track just prior to the Bagger GP Final. That one lap brought back many great memories from days gone by.

2024 FATBOOK COVER BIKE

2018 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FXLR SOFTAIL LOW RIDER

There's a lot to look at on Gary Chipp's 2024 FatBook Cover bike. For starters there's those gorgeous Performance Machine Formula chrome wheels and Saddlemen's new Mini Fairing. They set the tone for this ProStock Softail Low Rider, a great example of what's possible with the FatBook.

STREET-READY PRO-STOCK SOFTAIL LOW RIDER THE 2024 FATBOOK COVER BIKE

F

atBook cover bikes are more than just pretty faces on a catalog cover. Drag Specialties’ annual cover bikes also provide windows to the future of custom bike styling and aftermarket trends. Many of those emerging trends can be – and usually are – covered by using both the new and the well-established products available through Drag Specialties dealers to their customers. That scenario played out this past autumn when the crew at Fat Baggers Inc. completed the cover bike for the 2024

22

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

FatBook. In the process of that build, the FBI build crew and Drag Specialties recognized some components on the bike would be a great fit for the growing number of women riders. More on that later. “Tom Motzko approached us to build the 2024 catalog cover bike,” said FBI’s Gary Chipp. Motzko was focused on giving several all-new products for Harley-Davidson M8 Softail models some valuable exposure for 2024. As always, the new product exposure would officially begin at Drag

Trask's Tornado *Turbo Kit looks fast sitting still. For good reason, the bolt-on upgrade provides a 40 percent to 50 percent boost in power.

Specialties’ 2024 NVP Product Expo in Louisville, Kentucky in January. High on the activities list would be the reveal of the 2024 FatBook Cover Bike. The chosen model for this year’s project bike turned out to be a 2018 FXLR Softail Low Rider. Highlighting the parts list was Kodlin’s new stretched custom gas tank, Saddlemen’s new Mini Fairing Kit, and an asphalt-eating Trask *Tornado Turbo Kit. However, Chipp realized there was a minor kink to Motzko’s plan – FBI specializes in aftermarket custom parts primarily for Baggers, not Softails and the like. Chipp reminded Motzko that FBI was best known for building custom Baggers, but in so many words the vendor relations expert from Drag indicated that wouldn’t be a problem. Part of Motzko’s rationale was to encourage FBI to think outside the box in terms of incorporating a styling and parts mix for established builders and DIY customers to consider. With the turbo squared away, the engine received some cosmetic add-ons, which included the Rough Crafts chrome rocker box covers. Add to that the Drag Specialties Smooth M8 Bolt Kit and Cometic EST Complete Motor Gasket Kit. Next up came the new Kodlin Stretched Fuel Tank, complete with its own pop-up filler cap. This was followed by a subtly tweaked Drag Specialties Smooth Solar-Reflective Leather Predator Seat. Some minor fine tuning was also necessary before placing the Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation Super-Lite front fender onto the Performance Machine Chrome Front Fork Kit. Legend Suspensions’ AXEO M8 49mm Front Suspension System completes the front fork’s internals, which, when matched with the Legend Suspensions REVO-A 13-inch Mono Shock on the rear, offers a smooth and controlled ride.

Jason Harter at Fat Baggers Inc.mapped out that trick paintwork and chosen colors, which the crew readily describes as pink.

Motzko also indicated he’d prefer a less conventional paint scheme and color for the finished bike. Motzko stressed that FBI’s paint team give it an eye-catching color. Motzko also offered that the bike’s styling should reflect something in the lines of a Pro Stock drag race bike for the street. Fair enough, especially considering the horizon-hugging profile that the Low Rider already projects. Ironically, perhaps the cover bike’s most sophisticated component is the Trask *Tornado Turbo Kit mounted onto the M8 engine’s right side. Chipp’s assembly crew, consisting of Chad Andersen and Jason Harter, got to work mounting Trask’s bolt-on huffer. As you see in the photos, the turbo’s system of tubes, pipes and impeller housing – plus its brushed stainless steel *Turbo Exhaust – certainly catches the eye. What you don’t see in the photos is how simple it was to mount the turbo kit to the Softail. “It just plugged right in and worked,” beamed Chipp. That Trask Turbo bolt-on installation included a *Thundermax ECM to help monitor fuel and air intake based on the turbocharger’s needs. Among the Thundermax’s features is an integral Auto-Tune System that matches right up to the Trask assembly. Net result of this addition? According to Trask, a 40 percent to 50 percent gain in power once the turbo’s impellers start spooling up for additional boost into the engine’s intake tract.

For stopping this beast, the FBI team chose a mix of upgraded brake components from Arlen Ness, Performance Machine, Drag Specialties and Magnum Shielding. Finally, the brake lines are composed of Drag’s 90-Degree 3/8-inch Banjo Brake Fitting, and Magnums AN-3 Rear Brake Line Switch Block. Among the bike’s most defining features is the Saddlemen S-RT Mini Fairing Kit. The fairing mounted easily to the bike, offering even more panel space for paint. All that remained for that front end was a set of handlebars. FBI is known for its variety of USA-made, innovative handlebar conversion kits for Big Twins and Baggers, so naturally the FBI crew opted to select a handlebar from its own inventory. Only there wasn’t one to fit this bike! “We decided to develop a new Fat Baggers EZ Install Bar that will work with this model bike,” recalls Chipp. “We started at ground zero to develop a new handlebar, with plans of it being used primarily on the Low Rider ST, to provide a better arm reach for riders by bringing the handlebar closer to the rider, creating a relaxed neutral wrist angle.” New part numbers for the EZ Install low-reach handlebar have been added to the 2024 FatBook. That low-reach handlebar is something that Harley enthusiasts who frequent the FBI booth at bike rallies say they want. Chipp says they get a lot of requests from women riders for reduced-reach handlebars. Since this was going to be, essentially, a street-legal Pro Stocker, the bike would need a license plate. Chad and Jason elected to mount a stylish Kuryakyn Vertical Nova Curved Side-mount License Plate Holder alongside the finished fender. For wheels and rubber, the choice came

It was time for paint, and for that FBI’s in-house paint department team decided to follow its instincts and follow what it perceived to be a growing market trend. It would paint the bike in an extreme color tone that would target the growing number of women V-Twin enthusiasts. Jason then mapped out the Low Rider’s bold graphics, with the combination highlighted by a color that the crew simply described as “pink.” A good choice, because the color passed muster when Gary, Jason and Chad polled the many women employees who compose FBI’s work force – they all agreed the paint was something they’d be proud to ride with. The final takeaway, then, with Drag Specialties’ 2024 FatBook Cover Bike, is that the V-Twin market in general, and the Harley market in particular, is enjoying a major uptick in the number of participating women riders, thanks in large part to the M8 platform. And those riders can appreciate products like those new FBI reduced-reach handlebars That’s something for dealers attending the upcoming NVP dealer show to consider as the 2024 riding season approaches. DRAG SPECIALTIES

There was no shortage of beautiful roads at the Upcountry Run 2.

S

ome things are so good they’re worth repeating. That axiom applied wholeheartedly to the 2023 Drag Specialties dealer ride, the Upcountry Run 2. This gathering, the 17th annual Drag dealer ride returned to Greenville, South Carolina, where it was last held in 2018. Both new and repeat visitors were fired up to get together and ride these fine southern roads on the cusp of a crisp autumn. The people who rolled into the Embassy Suites Greenville Resort shared a common thought – there’s no better way to meet business leaders, build relationships and become better grounded in the industry than this. Sure, riding the sunstreamed, color-laced backroads of the Carolinas might seem like a flat-out indulgence, but trust us, this was business, too.

The opportunity to build these kinds of relationships can be invaluable once you’re back in the shop, especially as dealers see more customers choosing to upgrade and customize their current bikes over buying a new bike. The current climate presents opportunities for a strong boost in aftermarket parts and accessory sales and that’s when knowing who to call really matters. Known brands were represented and there was clear camaraderie among dealers, Drag road reps and brand reps. In fact, with no bike rental company nearby, several vendors brought extra bikes to loan, so dealers didn’t miss out on riding. Trask offered its turbo-equipped bikes for dealers to demo and Arai had a number of new helmets available to test.

“It’s an opportunity to make relationships and get new ideas, to know the people in the industry at a different level and in a different setting,” said Drag Specialties National Sales Manager Greg Matter. “You’re able to take away nuggets for your business, too, because you’re attending with people who are running successful businesses.”

Networking time continued over dinner that evening – and every evening. The two following days were packed with miles of delightful twisties on the Carolina backroads, skirting the whitewater in the Nantahala National Forest and following the scent of smoking meat to legendary barbecue spots. Some pushed further north to Maggie Valley, North Carolina, for a visit to the Wheels Through Time Museum.

That thought was echoed as the three-day event was kicked off at Vendor Row, where attending dealers got to meet the captains of the motorcycle aftermarket and scoop up premium branded swag. Even if you already knew people like Nick Trask and Zach Ness, here was the chance to pick their brains about new products or ask tech questions.

Planned routes were provided with QR codes to follow or paper maps for traditionalists, with sponsored lunch stops on each. Smaller groups took off on their own while others followed the media crew, ready to star in their own personal photo op. There were no wrong choices.

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTICIPATING VENDORS!

The days are long and the nights are fun at the Drag Specialties Dealer Ride. Each evening is capped off by a meet and greet and dinner. It’s a great chance to break bread and shoot the breeze.

The gang is all back together again: From left: LeMans Corporation’s Vice President of Sales/ Marketing Jeff Derge, Drag rep Mike Coury, Drag rep Glenn Philipp, and Drag rep Becky Brown.

Joe Miller, owner of Miller Built Performance, has been to several rides. “I consider this kind of networking super important,” he said. This is what it’s about – getting out and riding, getting some face time with vendors, and building relationships, then going back to the shop with a whole new motivation. It’s good to remember why we’re in this business.” Frank Sanchez from Direct Cycle Parts doesn’t miss the Drag Rides. “The best relationships I’ve ever built with vendors have been at the Drag Ride,” he said. “You’ve got to have a contact! Normally, I can’t call a company like Dunlop, but I can reach out to [them] because I’ve met him at these events.” The crew from Drag Specialties has this program solidly in place, including parameters for dealer qualification. Kathy Sommervold remains the spearhead, working remotely this time, as Lisa Reif and Kelly Garcia managed on site. Logistics

always run like clockwork and kind hospitality is the standard. Vendors offer bonus discounts for attending dealers, too, allowing for a bump in the bottom line for the savvy. In Drag Ride tradition, distinctive awards were presented by master of ceremonies Rob Buydos at the last-evening banquet. As much celebrity roast as rider recognitions, these often-dubious honors are a jovial way to wrap up the event, sprinkled with good-humored ribbing. Mike Maloney, operations and rally manager at Black Hills Harley-Davidson in Rapid City, South Dakota, summed it up. “For us, the Drag Ride is about spending quality time with the people we do business with year-round. At this event we get to show up and ride and talk about what we’re passionate about. That is what drives the industry.” continued on page 30...

2023 DRAG DEALER RIDE

RIDING

The Drag Dealer ride brings in dealers and vendors from around the country with one sole purpose – get out and ride. And ride they do on a range of V-Twin powered machines. The Upcountry Ride took the travelers to Dry Falls, an enormous walk-behind waterfall on the Cullasaja River near Highlands, North Carolina.

Saddle up, it's time to ride. The day starts early and goes late on the Drag Dealer Ride. After all, enjoying and riding motorcycles is what it's all about.

Each riding day at the Drag Dealer Ride begins with a briefing from the Voice of LeMans, Rob Buydos, who runs down the order of the day, the various Dos and Don’ts, lunch stop news and encourages the crowd to have a great time! LEFT: That’s Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson’s Joe Houpt under that Arai helmet. RIGHT: Before the ride: From left: Brad Scoggins of BRC Bike Works, Drag rep Jon Olson, and Jeremy Duncan of Bassani Xhaust. LEFT: There's something about riding motorcycles that just brings people together. RIGHT: Trask Performance founder Nick Trask preps for another day of riding out of Greenville and into the countryside.

SEATS

Miles of Comfort

Introducing the New UltraFoam 2.0 Saddlemen knows that the more comfortable a seat is, the more miles your customers will ride. That’s why the company has developed a new seat material called UltraFoam 2.0, which will be the new standard in all Saddlemen seats.

M

ost riders know the feeling. We all do. It’s a beautiful, clear day, the bike is running great and the route is heading down a long, scenic road with just enough corners to keep things interesting. All the ingredients are there for what should be a “perfect” ride. Well, except for one thing – the ride has already been going for a few hours and things are so uncomfortable that the thought of riding for much longer turns that smile upside down. Of the three contact points on every motorcycle, there is only one that impacts the duration and enjoyment of the ride and that’s the seat. Since 1987, the team at Saddlemen has focused on pursuing the science of designing quality, comfortable seats. Now, Saddlemen has a proprietary new material – UltraFoam 2.0 – designed to not only improve on that comfort, but also remove the need for any break-in period. Saddlemen’s product line spans that range of motorcycling, from professional dirt track and Performance Bagger racing to enthusiast riders – with a heavy focus on the latter. In

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

addressing the unique needs of both these communities Saddlemen recognizes one simple rule – you can’t go fast, or ride for long miles if you’re uncomfortable! It’s important to understand that the comfort of any seat has more to do with the materials used to manufacture it rather than the shape, or how it feels to the touch. Whereas most OE saddles use basic, open cell foam for their construction, Saddlemen instead relies on a variety of proprietary, high-tech materials to help isolate the rider from both engine and road vibrations. Chief among them has been the combination of the company’s Gel Core Technology and Progressive Density Foam, a pairing that lies at the heart of the “Saddlemen Ride.” Saddlemen is aware that some consumers mis-identify a key feature of their seats because they lacked the “soft touch” commonly found with standard foam seats. Owing to the material used, Saddlemen seats have always been firmer to the initial touch because they’re designed to conform to the weight and shape of a seated rider, and not someone poking their finger into it.

SADDLEMEN

Aware that some consumers find that Saddlemen seats lack the “soft touch” found in standard foam seats, the company formulated UltraFoam 2.0 to remove the need for any amount of break-in period. The new gel formula will conform more quickly to the rider, all without losing that trademark Saddlemen support and comfort.

After a year of both indoor and on-the-road R&D testing, Saddlemen introduces a new level of seat technology that’s delivers an improved level of comfort and performance. Dubbed UltraFoam 2.0, Saddlemen developed this new seat material by continually tweaking the formula of its original closed cell SaddleGel material. The new gel formula retains all the features that customers have always loved about Saddlemen seats while, now removing the need for any amount of a break-in period. This breakthrough was achieved by reducing the wall thickness of each gel cell, which allows the seat to conform more quickly to rider weight and body shape, all without losing the dual functions of support and comfort. Whether your customers are looking for a touring, sport or Adventure Bike application, UltraFoam 2.0 is the new standard in all Saddlemen seats. Saddlemen seats are proudly made in the USA. ■

Production Class SUPER HOOLIGAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN GROWTH SPURT Brian J. Nelson photos

Since its inception, the MotoAmerica Super Hooligan National Championship has surged in popularity – and size. For 2024, the Hooligan class will race at five MotoAmerica rounds. At the Ridge Motorsports Park round, Cory West (#13) leads Jake Lewis (#85) and Bobby Fong (#50) into a turn, trailed by AJ Peaslee (#126).

F

orty-eight racers entered the final round of the 2023 MotoAmerica Mission Super Hooligan National Championship finale at Circuit of the Americas in September. You read that correctly – 48.

Included in that 48 were six Harley-Davidson Pan Americas, five Harley-Davidson Low Rider S’s, two Harley-Davidson XL1200 Sportsters, two Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Riders and seven Indian FTR1200s. The first of the two races at COTA was won by Indian Motorcycles/Progressive/Mission Foods’ Tyler O’Hara after a great battle with his teammate Jeremy McWilliams that ended with McWilliams crashing out in the final corner. The second race was also won by O’Hara – this time over a lesszealous McWilliams. While the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers has turned into an American racing success story, so too has the Roland Sands-led Super Hooligans class. Not bad for the new kid on the block. The first Super Hooligan race was held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in 2021 with 22 racers finishing the race – with just 11 of them on the lead lap. It was two KTMs out front, followed by three Indians and the first of the Harleys was eighth.

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

At the Ridge Motorsports Park round in June, Indian rider Tyler O’Hara won race one, a little foreshadowing of a season where he was eventually crowned the Super Hooligan Champion.

How things have changed. And in a hurry. The 2024 season will see the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship at five MotoAmerica rounds, headlined by the season-opening two races at Daytona International Raceway, March 7-9. The series will conclude at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, September 13-15. In between, the series will visit Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington, June 28-30; WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, July 12-14; and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, August 16-18. This year the series will feature 750cc-and-up twins and triples from the world’s premier manufacturers, including KTM, Harley-Davidson, Indian, Ducati, BMW, Triumph and Yamaha as they try to wrest the title from O’Hara, who earned the championship over McWilliams and KTMmounted Andy DiBrino. To add further spice to a series on the rise, Harley-Davidson recently announced that it will offer a $123,000 cash contingency program for qualified Harley riders competing in the series with a payout from first to 10th and a $20,000 championship bonus. ■

HANDLEBARS

Built for the Ride Bars for Every Bike

The next question we get is, why LA Choppers? Well, first and foremost, all the company’s handlebars are designed, fabricated and finished right here in the USA. None of its processes are done out of the country, let alone out of the state of California. In addition, all of its 1¼inch and 1½-inch handlebars are dual walled. This reduces flex in the handlebar and helps makes them stronger. The company also has an extensive lineup of handlebars available – we’re talking huge. LA Choppers prides itself on having something for everyone. From Mitered Ape Hangers to T-Bars, the company will have a bar for you and your customers.

LA Choppers’ Twin Peaks handlebars in chrome are a great addition to a customer’s Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic.

I

t’s often a tough decision for your customers when it comes time to choose the right handlebars for their bikes. With so many options out there, how do you know what will work best for them?

The team at LA Choppers believes it has an answer – and the product line – that should help those customers seal the deal on a new set of bars. LA Choppers offers just about every style of handlebar imaginable for your customers. That’s because the product experts at LA Choppers know everyone has a different style they like, as well as a different body type and shape. When it comes to choosing the right handlebar, they suggest taking into account a few different things. First off is, what bike are the bars going on? Is it a relatively stock Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic with a bunch of chrome? LA Choppers would probably recommend the tried-and-true Twin Peaks, Twin Rounds or Prime Apes. Is it a Softail Lowrider ST? The Kage Fighters or Performance Risers will look right at home on that bike. How about an older Softail Vicla? The Tree Huggers were designed specifically for that application! It’s a relatively simple process, but it can be overbearing at times when there are hundreds of options to choose from.

TIRES

Commitment to a Classic An Iconic Tire Brand’s Bright Future

Worldwide Message: Avon was front-and-center at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy in November. The display was just one example of the commitment Goodyear has made to the Avon Tyres brand.

S

ome things change, but some things stay the same. As we head into 2023, Avon Tyres continues to be committed to producing tires that are in stock and ready to ship the moment a dealer orders them. When the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company acquired Avon, that inevitably meant changes were on the way, and plenty of people were left wondering what it would all mean for the Avon brand. Luckily for Avon fans, those changes have all been for the better and, for the most part, behind the scenes. Avon Tyres will continue to be the brand riders know and love, and tires like the popular Cobra Chrome, Speedmaster MKII and Safety Mileage MKII are all in stock and ready to roll. 2023 was a pivotal year for Avon Tyres, including a move from its Melksham, UK, plant to a facility in Montlucon, France, where Goodyear is injecting more than $15 million to create a Center of Excellence for motorcycle tires. This investment is part of Goodyear’s unprecedented commitment for Avon to be a top-tier global motorcycle tire brand. And the news only gets better for dealers and riders in North America.

54

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

“It’s important to note that the USA and Canadian markets are the number one priority,” says Don Argento, Manager of Motorcycle Sales & Marketing North America. “The production facility in Montlucon has the scalability to allow for the expanding demand of Avon. Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties continue to be an outstanding industry partner and are key to the future success of the Avon brand.” Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited have stock availability on all the current Avon ranges, including the best-selling Cobra Chrome for the cruiser, touring and custom market with several sizes available in white wall, plus two sizes dedicated to the Trike market – a MT90B16 for the Harley-Davidson Trike and a 130/70R18 for the Honda Goldwing Trike. Cobra Chrome tires are ideal for riders who want a distinct, but more modern look. The edge of the tread has a pattern that resembles snakeskin, and the raised Cobra head adds to the style. In addition to looks, the Cobra Chrome has outstanding grip and improved tire life over its predecessor, the Cobra. The enhanced compounds and construction method improve stopping distances in the wet for even more confidence. In all, the Cobra Chrome tire delivers high stability in all conditions, precise tire feedback and nimble handling.

In addition to its tire lines focused on V-Twins, Avon Tyres will continue to produce the RoadRider MKII, which blends a timeless appearance with cutting-edge performance and aesthetics that suit bikes of all ages. It’s a longtime favorite of the Café Racer crowd.

Avon is reaffirming its dedication to value, which is why 2024 will see some updates to pricing. Argento explains, “In addition to having high stock availability, we are instituting a new competitive pricing structure on all Avon tires starting in 2024.” Goodyear went the extra mile to show its commitment to Avon’s success by making Avon the focal point of its display at EICMA in Milan, Italy. This six-day motorcycle show boasts more than 500,000 visitors each year, making it one of the largest motorcycling trade shows in the world. Press, distributors, dealers and consumers gather there to share their passion for motorcycling. Adding custom touches to their bikes is one of the most fun parts of being a rider, but we can’t forget about making sure passengers enjoy the ride just as much. This is why Ciro has adapted its drink holder mount design to Indian models.

Ciro’s new passenger drink holder mount is designed for 2014-2023 Indian models equipped with the Indian brand Touring Trunk. Make no mistake, this is not a knockoff, universal product that’ll easily break. Ciro designed these to last using high-quality metal construction throughout, including its hardware. These mounts also feature a black powder coated finish, creating an inconspicuous look when installed. Your customers can complete these with Ciro’s standard or Big Ass® drink holders, or better yet, one of each to accommodate every refreshment need! With individual Tune Licenses easily downloaded directly from Dynojet, that Power Vision is no longer married to just one bike. It can be used to custom-tune any 2001 to current year Harley-Davidson motorcycle or Trike that comes into the shop. Talk about a win/win situation. How often have you seen a rider come in and just ask for a new tune? Maybe he’s changed the pipes or air filter and knows his bike has to be remapped, but he doesn’t necessarily want to buy a Power Vision to get the job done. Now he doesn’t have to. The Dynojet Power Vision makes it easier to flash-tune a V-Twin motorcycle’s ECU on the go, and provides access to a wide range of pre-loaded tunes. When using those Tune Licenses you can still use the various built-in Power Vision features like creating custom tunes from scratch, or using pre-loaded tunes available in the device or from Dynojet’s website. The built-in Autotune modes will help you speed up the tuning process if need be. If you’re looking to boost performance for a fleet of Harley-Davidson or Indian motorcycles, make your way over to Dynojet’s tune license service, snag some tune licenses, and get busy dialing in your customers’ bikes. ■

On the Rise

More Fitments for Popular Products

The Fastback Risers for the HarleyDavidson Lowrider S offer a sleek upgrade and include a gauge mount for the Lowrider’s round gauge.

B

eing popular is always a good feeling. Fastback Risers from Kodlin USA have been such a popular product that riders began demanding more fitment options. Kodlin USA, of course, was happy to oblige. The Universal Fastback Risers and Lowrider S Fastback Risers – with a built-in gauge bucket – have joined the lineup. Like everything from Kodlin USA, these newest products were designed by company co-owner Len Kodlin. They have Len’s distinctive design aesthetic, which blends an eye for detail with innovative styling.

The Elypse 3-1 LED license plate kit features LEDs that serve red running lights, amber turn signal lights and red brake lights. The lights provide maximum visibility.

The Universal Fastback Risers are designed for Harley-Davidson Dyna, Softail and Sportster models. In fact, any Harley model with 3½-inch on-center handlebars can get a style upgrade with these risers. The Lowrider S Fastback Risers feature a gauge bucket, and they will fit all 2022-2023 Lowrider S models. These risers also work with any customized Harley using a Lowrider S single round gauge plus 3½-inch on-center handlebars. Both the Universal and Lowrider S Fastback Risers are CNC machined from billet aluminum and topped with a black anodized finish. The 1-inch bar clamp size is standard, so making the upgrade is easy, and each set of risers arrives with the necessary hardware and zip ties. Riders can choose just how high they want their bars to be, with available riser heights of 6 inches, 8 inches and 10 inches. The latest license plate kit from Kodlin USA is also the evolution of an already-popular product. The Elypse 3-1 LED license plate kit is based on Kodlin USA’s standard

design, but the frame lights up to provide 3-1 indicators with red running lights, amber turn signal lights and red brake lights. Now, there is also a version of the Elypse with a three-bolt mounting pattern. The curved frame blends beautifully with the lines of the rear fender, and riders can choose chrome or black for the finish. The LEDs on the Elypse license plate frame are placed just right so they are nearly invisible when they are off. That means they don’t detract from a bike’s look when it’s parked. But, when the lights do illuminate, they are extremely bright to ensure maximum visibility. These latest products are proof of just how busy Kodlin USA has been expanding its product line, and dealers can expect the options to continue growing throughout the year. ■

The Sound of Art

Sleek Exhaust for New Harley CVO Models

Vance & Hines’ new Hi-Output slip-on exhaust in the Scorch Chrome finish are a perfect match to the factory headers on Harley-Davidson’s latest CVO models.

M

otorcycle design is a unique subject in which performance and thrill are blended with elegance and artistry. It’s a concept that goes back decades, but you’d be hard pressed to find a more suitable example than Harley-Davidson’s latest CVO Road Glide and Street Glide models. From the tip of shark nose and Batwing fairings to the tail of the saddlebags, Harley truly refined its recent model CVOs to possess a seamless visual flow, almost as if it’s moving while at a standstill. Yet, OEMs like Harley are not the only groups that embrace two-wheel performance as an art form. Take Vance & Hines, for example, a dedicated group that has established a powerful reputation recognizable both visually and audibly, especially with exhaust. Needless to say, the design wheels started turning the instant the Vance & Hines team saw Harley’s latest CVOs. A sleek yet attention grabbing detail is the exhaust hanging from the largest displacement V-Twin engine Harley has ever supplied on a factory Touring model. Dubbed Scorched Chrome by the manufacturer, the finish of the factory two-into-one exhaust can be best described as dark chrome. The dark chrome finish plays on the sleek nature of the shapes and finishes throughout the rest of the bike, but more importantly, it takes Vance & Hines’ new matching Hi-Output slip-on exhaust to another tier of sensory performance.

These Hi-Output slip-ons in Scorched Chrome not only look great but offer that well-known Vance & Hines performance. The stepped design takes the muffler from 4 inches to 4½ inches, finishing with a race-inspired, CNC-machined billet end cap.

This brand-new slip-on from Vance & Hines in dark chrome seamlessly matches the Scorched Chrome finish of the factory header. The modern finish meets timeless style with Vance & Hines’ iconic stepped design taking the muffler from 4 inches to 4½ inches. Accentuating the design and finish are race-inspired, CNC-machined billet end caps that top-off an overall look simultaneously balancing race and cruise. Nestled inside each Hi-Output slip-on is a propriety baffle design that uses two successive sizes of perforated tube wrapped in fiberglass. This design is what helps these American-made exhausts sound as good as they look, producing a deep, race-inspired exhaust note. Customers mounting up a Vance & Hines Hi-Output dark chrome slip-on on their CVOs will not only have a look that is straight eye candy, but an exhaust that delivers that V-Twin fire and rumble the way only a Vance & Hines exhaust can. ■

RIDING APPAREL

Dressed to Impress

A New Take on a Biker Staple The Nightrider is THRASHIN’s nuanced take on the classic black biker vest. Made from heavy-duty cotton canvas with a quilted, insulated interior, it has a number of features designed for riders.

T

HRASHIN Supply Company has the goods to outfit a V-Twin, and the bike’s rider, too. Riding gear and casual clothes are a mainstay of the THRASHIN product line, with a focus on subtle style, loads of features and quality construction. The latest addition to THRASHIN’s apparel lineup is the Nightrider Vest, which looks great on display in your shop as well as on your customers’ backs as they head out for a ride. A black vest is standard issue for Harley-Davidson riders, but the Nightrider is anything but standard. As with all THRASHIN products, this vest boasts a little more detail and a lot more style than most, even if it’s low key. Leather may be the traditional material for vests and other riding gear, but THRASHIN went with heavy duty 14-ounce cotton canvas for the Nightrider. The thick fabric has a sturdy feel, but still wears easier than leather with a bit less weight and more flexibility that breaks in nicely with time. Like leather, canvas is pretty good at

stopping the wind, so the Nightrider will keep whatever your customers are wearing underneath from flapping and block the wind when the weather is chilly. A quiltlined, insulated interior with THRASHIN’s signature bolt stitching adds more warmth and comfort. Special attention was paid to the features of the Nightrider to make it a functional garment. There are two top-entry button-snap exterior pockets perfect for sunglasses or other items, as well as two slash-cut zippered pockets that will keep belongings safe at high speed on the highway. There are also two interior button-snap pockets large enough for concealed carry (where it is legal to do so). Speaking of protection, THRASHIN incorporated an interior sleeve to add a full-size back protector, which is available separately. All zippers are from YKK and there are attractive debossed leather patches on the front and back of the vest. For dealers, the Nightrider offers something that’s traditional but a little different from the norm. It also comes on a custom THRASHIN hanger that helps it stand out on the rack, and THRASHIN is shipping the Nightrider in a branded garment bag that keeps the vest safe in transit and is a nice add-on for customers to take home. From sunny days to chilly nights, and full-on traditionalists to younger hooligan riders, the Nightrider vest fits the bill. ■

Race Worthy

Performance Bagger Front-End Upgrades

W

hile the concept of Bagger Racing raised a few eyebrows only a few short years ago, the world of motorcycle fans and manufacturing have not only adopted the concept, but they’ve also wholeheartedly embraced it.

And really, given that it was a slew of big bike wheels and front-end parts that kickstarted Performance Machine’s racing legacy back in 1970, who better than the legendary SoCal speed shop to head to the grid with a catalog of Bagger upgrades to help the big bikes handle, stop and look as good as they should? For 2024 Performance Machine is introducing a range of front-end performance upgrades that can be applied individually or as a complete package. Look for the 49mm Performance Machine lower fork legs to kick-off the upgrade package that have a unique hidden axle design. They are available with either single or dual caliper brake mounts. And what better caliper to hang off those machined fork legs than a PM Radial Mount Caliper, which shines beyond its signature machined finish by reducing flex and heat build-up to provide improved stopping power. Of course, the features of those bejeweled calipers are optimized when paired to a choice of either the Dominator or Speedstar Race Weight full-floating rotors. Designed to both reduce weight and heat build-up, while instilling a more confident feel under hard braking, the CNC Machined 300mm rotors are available with either a black or gold anodized inner carrier.

Performance Machine is now offering a range of front-end performance upgrades that come as a complete package or as individual components. The lineup includes 49mm lower fork legs, a radial mount caliper, and a selection of wheels (Assault wheel shown) and brake rotors (Dominator shown).

Of course, if there was a flagship product with the Performance Machine line-up it would have to be found within the catalog of beautifully crafted wheels. And there are now two new Bagger wheels to choose from. The 11 spoke Assault wheels follow in the precision machined lineage that helped make PM famous. Equipped with their Race Weight Series hubs, your customers will have a wheelset that is as serious about maximizing performance on the street as it is on the racetrack. As an option to the Assault wheels, PM has also introduced the new forged aluminum Revolution wheel, which stands out with a visually stunning nine-into-18 spoke design in either a black or gold anodized finish to either match or contrast with the brake rotor carriers. Like its machined brethren, the Revolution is available in a 21˝x 3.5˝ front and an 18˝ x 5.5˝ rear size and will complement either ABS or Non-ABS bikes. The new PM wheels, fork lowers and brake components are designed to enhance the performance of 2014-2023 Harley-Davidson Touring bikes. All these Bagger upgrade products are handcrafted in the USA. ■

A Case for Performance

Solid Foundations for Big-Inch Builds more surface area for a stronger connection. Internal webbing and thicker castings throughout the crankcase add up to a significantly more robust component. The MK-Series Crankcase features a larger sump and closefitting oil scraper to combat the wet-sumping problem that plagues big-inch M8s. The kit also comes with S&S’s Piston-Cooling Jet Kit to further enhance lubrication and cooling. The crankcases retain the stock deck height, eliminating clearance issues in stock Touring frames.

Y

ears before George J. Smith and Stanley Stankos founded S&S Cycle in 1958, the duo were manufacturing engine components for their own Harley-Davidsons. The pistons that George cast for “Tramp,” his 1939 Knucklehead, were early examples of many performance parts designed to improve power and reliability. Sixty-five years later, S&S is still producing premium engine products that increase power and solve problems.

Since the stock sump, oil-pickup hole, and oil scraper can pose problems in high-performance engines, S&S redesigned the components to improve oil scavenging and reduce oil temperature. Compared to the stock cast oil scraper, S&S’s machined piece sits closer to the crank webs to more effectively direct oil into the larger sump. By providing more volume at the bottom of the crankcase, oil is more effectively collected, reducing the risk of cavitation that can cause the pump to lose its prime. The larger sump, along with more reliable scavenging and collection, also helps reduce oil temperature. This kit is made in the USA and is compatible with the stock oil pump, cam support plate, flywheel assembly, balancer assembly, stator, cam cover, etc. and comes with main bearings, balancer bearings, inner cam bearings, cylinder studs, piston oilers, O-rings and hardware. ■

The latest addition to the S&S legacy is the MK-Series Crankcase for 2017 and up Milwaukee-Eight Touring models. The need for this product stems from known shortcomings in the stock M8 cases, especially in highperformance builds. Engines pushed to 124, 128, and 132 CI put more physical stress on the bottom end – the actual case halves, as well as bearings and supporting assemblies and systems that live within the crankcase – and the stock parts just aren’t up to the task. They weren’t designed for it. The MK-Series Crankcase is. This setup is the ideal starting point for big-bore builds that will crank out huge power. Made from high-strength heat-treated aluminum castings, S&S designed these cases to allow for larger bores than stock, while also increasing the overall strength. High-stress areas like the motor mounts and stator location were reinforced to prevent cracking, and the case-halve mating faces have

In designing and manufacturing the MK-Series Crankcase, S&S Cycle thoroughly built a product designed for performance applications. It’s designed as a serious OE upgrade.

TIRES

No Compromises

A Tire for Confidence and Custom Builds

Metzeler’s ME888 Marathon Ultra is now available in a 180/55B18 front tire. This purpose-built front tire is the perfect companion for the custom builders looking to make a big statement with 5.5-inch wheels on the front.

T

here was a time when making dramatic changes to a bike meant making a lot of compromises, too. Getting a custom look often required making do with products that had the right look, but weren’t exactly the right fit. That kind of compromise could even include mounting tires that weren’t the intended fit or application. And that, of course, could result in a bike setup that wasn’t stable or predictable. When it comes to tires, Metzeler is taking the compromise out of customized. In order to achieve just the look they want, customizers often turn to untraditional techniques, like putting a rear tire on the front wheel. Running 5.5-inch wheels on the front of a V-Twin lets riders run the same size tires on the front and the back. But it used to mean those tires weren’t just the same size, they were also the same exact tire, designed for use on the rear.

72

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

While that may not seem like a big deal on the surface, at least to a casual rider, there’s a big difference between front and rear tires. Different profiles, different handling characteristics and even different tread compounds all add up to create two very distinct tires. The end result might have looked great with two rear tires on the bike, but the tire performance had been compromised. Today, it’s possible to get that fat front tire look as well as quality and performance thanks to the Metzeler ME888 Marathon Ultra in a 180/55B18 front tire. This purposebuilt front tire is the perfect companion for the 5.5-inch wheels, and it has all the characteristics a front tire ought to have despite being the same size as a rear tire option. For custom builders and riders who want to make a big style statement, it really is a “best of both worlds” option. It is no surprise that the 180/55B18 front tire found a home in the ME888 lineup. This popular tire line from

METZELER It is no surprise that the 180/55B18 front tire found a home in the ME888 lineup. This popular tire line from Metzeler has an incredible number of available sizes, and it made sense for custom sizes to be a part of the list, too.

Metzeler has an incredible number of available sizes, and it made sense for custom sizes to be a part of the list, too. For those not wanting to go quite as wide, there’s a 130/60B23 diameter front tire as well as a 300mm rear tire for those who really want to turn some heads. In all, there are more than 90 sizes available for the ME888 tire. This size selection makes the ME888 a great choice for cruisers, Touring bikes and custom builds. And, while some components on a custom bike might be too delicate for regular use, Metzeler designed the ME888 tire line to be a go-to choice for riders putting on the miles. One of the reasons the ME888 is a perennial favorite among V-Twin riders is that it blends ultra-high mileage with the performance one expects from Metzeler. And, since rainy weather is inevitable as the miles add up, the tire also has outstanding performance in the wet. The tread pattern of the ME888 is designed to evacuate a high level of water while still maintaining wear uniformity. The result is a tire that remains smooth and predictable throughout its life, no matter what the weather conditions might be. The sizable contact patch, reinforced sidewalls and expertly blended compound only add to the ME888’s stability. The

tire has a flat and wide geometry, which helps disperse weight and stress toward the sidewalls. By doing this, the ME888 benefits from reduced wear and fatigue. And that, of course, increases the tire’s longevity. The tread pattern includes Metzeler’s “compound bridges” to further enhance wear regularity. They achieve this by stiffening the tread design, which reduces the stress on the belts and carcass plies. After all, Metzeler named this tire the Marathon Ultra for a reason. It really is designed to go the distance. Even the choice of compound contributes to wear resistance. A high amount of silica can be found in the compound, too, to add some chemical grip for those cold or rainy (or, worse, cold and rainy) days. In all, it’s safe to say that Metzeler designed the ME888 to be a solid tire choice across various speeds, riding conditions and even the tire’s life cycle. That adds up to great news for Touring riders who experience all of those scenarios on long-haul trips. They know a set of Metzeler ME888 tires can get them to their destination with no problem. ■

Always a popular choice for customers looking to add real power, Bassani’s Short Ripper 2-into-1 system is now available with a 49-state compliant built-in catalytic converter.

In recent years, the company has added another factor to its range of exhausts and that is making them meet the various legal requirements for exhausts and emissions products. One of the newest 49-state compliant product from Bassani is its Short Ripper 2-into-1 system with built-in catalytic converter. Backed by those decades of experience – and with an eye toward making products dealers can sell and customers can enjoy across the country – Bassani has worked to develop these 49-state compliant systems using non-removable catalytic converters. They were then tested with a certified emissions lab for exhaust systems on a Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST Milwaukee-Eight Softail. Built the same as Bassani’s earlier system (but with the non-removable cat system), the Short Ripper 2-into-1 systems feature stepped headpipes that go from 1¾ inches to 17/8 inches, a design guaranteed to boost horsepower and torque. The whole system is a one-piece design that has the headers and mufflers welded together and sheathed with a full-length heatshield. That shorty muffler features an angle-cut end cap for an abrupt, sporty look. There’s also that well-known Bassani Xhausts logo on a prominent badge, and a removeable baffle. The Short Ripper 2-into-1 system with catalytic converter is available in stainless steel, chrome and black – always welcome finishes in the V-Twin world.

Helping Dealers Follow the Rules

Custom Dynamics provides these handy information sheets that answer a number of questions and provide details about compliant lighting.

T

he tiny DOT mark found on most motorcycle headlights might not seem like a big deal to most riders, which is why Custom Dynamics is encouraging dealers to educate both themselves and their customers about DOT-compliant lighting products. Headlights and taillights must be DOT compliant, and that rule goes for all 50 states. Talking about following the rules may not be exciting, but it is important, and there has been a growing discussion in the motorcycle industry about lighting products, the laws governing them, and the liability dealers should know about. Custom Dynamics, whose V-Twin lighting products are DOT and SAE compliant, will have two flyers for dealers attending the Louisville NVP to give an overview of what to look for in lighting and why it matters. It’s a federal law that motorcycle headlights must illuminate white in color, and there are beam aim and photometric standards, too. What this means is that yellow or amber headlights are not legal, though those colors are acceptable for a variety of other lighting elements on the bike, such as fog lamps, turn signals, daytime running lights and accent lights. The Department of Transportation is not an approval agency, which means they don’t test products to make sure they’re compliant. That responsibility falls on the manufacturers of those products.

76

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

Custom Dynamics has rigorous testing procedures to ensure its lighting products are DOT and SAE compliant. The markings on the lenses of the company’s products are proof of the focus the Custom Dynamics engineers have on providing riders with high-quality lighting solutions that stay well within legal parameters. Why does playing by the rules matter? Because everyone in the chain, including the dealer, can be held liable in the event of an accident that is caused by a non-compliant product, and may face consequences if a product they sold or installed causes an accident. Riders can also face consequences, ranging from fines to their insurance carrier refusing to pay due to noncompliant lighting products. As it turns out, playing by the rules is good customer service. Having said that, navigating the ins and outs of compliance can be confusing at times, which is one of the reasons Custom Dynamics is helping educate dealers and industry members. For one thing, there are times when Federal laws and State laws seem at odds with each other. For another, since there is no formal product approval process, dealers need to know what to look for to help their customers choose products that won’t get them into trouble. ■

DRIVE BELTS

Strength and Flexibility Drive Belt Upgrades

T

here are two things that American V-Twin motorcycle service technicians might consider when servicing or replacing a customer bike’s rear drive belts – BDL’s Gates Rubber PCC belts and Drag Specialties’ proprietary BDL SPC belts.

Drag Specialties’ proprietary SPC belts were developed exclusively by BDL to offer strength and performance at an affordable price to Harley-Davidson owners and custom bike builders.

Both of these superior drive belt upgrades are suitable for quick and easy OE replacement, or for custom and/ or high-horsepower applications. Simply match the belt specifications to what’s called for on the motorcycle, and you’re good to go. Moreover, and like all BDL products, these highquality final drive belts are made in the USA.

BDL’s Gates PCC rear drive belt features the new X7N carbon compound. They are designed handle high-horsepower applications, and for extended belt life under normal riding conditions.

GATES PCC The Gates PCC rear drive belt was updated by BDL in late 2022. The PCC’s improved rubber compound, known as Carbon X7N, is stronger, replacing the X3N compound previously used for BDL’s Gates PCC belts. The newer X7N compound features the same durable material that Harley-Davidson uses on its OEM rear belts, offering exceptionally high tensile strength for a final-drive belt such as this. The new X7N carbon compound was expressly developed to handle high-horsepower applications, and for extended belt life under normal riding conditions. The X7N’s unique carbon cord fiber-reinforced tooth surface also extends wear properties for the Gates belt’s teeth. Improved wear characteristics also make the X7N especially suitable for high-horsepower applications that are common on today’s Performance Baggers and Big Twin motorcycles. In addition, the X7N belt’s slick-treated inner surface minimizes wear on the drive pulley’s slotted surface, which again helps extend belt life. The belt’s ribbed outer surface also promotes flexibility for smoother 180-degree turnabouts on the motorcycle’s drive pulleys, further extending both the motorcycle’s belt and pulley life. That flexibility also allows for improved pitch contact between the pulley’s slotted surface and the Gates PCC belt itself.

DRAG SPECIALTIES SPC Drag Specialties’ proprietary SPC belts were developed exclusively by BDL to offer strength and performance at an affordable price to Harley owners and custom bike builders. In many cases the SPC is the perfect alternative for their applications. The SPC belt itself was created by Conti-Tech, engineered to BDL’s specs using carbon fiber strands for strength, and high-temperature rubber compound for flexibility, delivering up to 30 percent more tensile strength than typical Aramid reinforced belts. Finally, this reminder – If a bike’s rear drive pulley system shows more than 35,000 miles on it, replacing the pulleys is advised. Pulleys with excessive wear can cause new belts to break or fail. ■

is paired with an aluminum carrier for even more weight savings. Every ounce counts on a race bike, and shaving weight can be something as significant as mounting a titanium Slyfox exhaust or something as small as swapping out the timing cover.

T

he racetrack has long been the perfect testing ground for performance parts, but we’re not used to V-Twin parts getting developed that way. With the rise of Bagger racing and the Bagger Racing League, though, that’s changing, and Slyfox is one of the companies putting its parts to the test on the track. Slyfox teamed up with Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson to compete in the Bagger Racing League’s Pro Stock and Bagger GP classes. That means Slyfox founder Alex Fox has twice the opportunities to test and refine his products. Most of the Slyfox parts available through Drag Specialties can be found on the team’s race bikes. “The parts are a key ingredient to putting us across the finish line,” Alex says. “My whole brand is designed around performance.”

The Suburban Harley-Davidson team ended the 2023 season on a high note, taking a win in Pro Stock and third in Bagger GP during the season finale at Willow Springs, California. In the standings, the team wrapped up with fourth in the Pro Stock championship and second in Bagger GP.

PERFORMANCE PARTS

From Podium to Parts Shelves

And, along the way, Alex stayed busy testing, refining and testing some more. “The track is the true testing factor before going to market,” he says. “It teaches us what we need to either modify or change, what works or doesn’t work, and it inspires the whole line.” That line continues to grow, and more billet aluminum items are being added along with the carbon fiber components. The billet aluminum gauge housings are made to pair with Slyfox risers with a top mount bracket. The housings can mount in the front or back of the risers, and they have an adjustable fit. ■

Carbon fiber components are a big part of the lineup, and Slyfox offers those in both a matte and gloss finish so riders – and racers – can choose the look they want while they’re saving weight. There is already a substantial list of Slyfox carbon fiber products, like the hydraulic clutch actuator cover, timing cover, and horn cover, plus front and rear fenders. Since most of the Slyfox carbon fiber parts are bolt-on, they are easy performance upgrades to make. Slyfox also has 17-inch performance wheels, so riders can easily mount a set of race or track day tires to a Bagger. The wheels are CNC-machined from forged aluminum for the right mix of strength and weight savings, and there are dual-disc ABS and non-ABS versions available. hat if your customers could get the thrill and freedom of riding a motorcycle with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they won’t fall over? That’s exactly what a Trike conversion kit from Motor Trike offers. With Motor Trike’s bolt-on Gladiator, GTX Sportster, and Spartan Trike conversion kits, riders can turn their existing HarleyDavidson into a custom Trike that will help keep them on the road for years to come. Motor Trike’s kits offer independent rear suspension, adjustable air ride, powerful brakes and high-quality automotive-grade bushings and bearings selected to provide years and years of trouble-free service. A mechanical reverse is also available to make parking a breeze. Motor Trike’s kits require no welding or fabrication – these are true bolt-on kits that fully replace the rear of a conventional motorcycle, and blend in seamlessly with the original design. The heart of the conversion kits is Motor Trike’s independent rear suspension, which is built around a race-inspired tubular space frame that is strong, stiff and made to last. Each 15-inch polished-aluminum Torque Thrust wheel (other wheel options are available) is supported by its own gas-charged shock and control arms for fully independent action. A calibrated sway bar is in place to ensure comfortable and secure cornering. The shocks offer 4 inches of travel and feature a soft spring rate with plenty of give for optimized comfort. This setup is backed up by a patented air-spring system and onboard compressor that allows the rider to tune suspension support and firmness with the push of a button. Whether riding alone on a Spartan or two-up and fully loaded with a trailer on a Gladiator, the Motor Trike kit’s advanced suspension system adapts to conditions.

All Motor Trike conversion kits are designed to easily and seamlessly replace the rear of a conventional motorcycle and use the bike’s original drive belt and pulley.

The bike’s original drive belt and pulley are used on the conversion, but feed power through a patented differential and automotive-style CV joints to the rear wheels. The differential is calibrated to quell vibrations caused by big V-Twin engines. Stopping power is provided by two 12-inch discs pinched by three-piston calipers, and ABS functionality is available for all applicable models. There’s also an option for a twowheel parking brake and even an electric reverse. This same assembly underpins all of Motor Trike’s kits, providing the same quality and performance for everything from 1997 Softails to the latest Milwaukee Eight. It’s capped off with fiberglass bodywork that’s ready for paint, which is available direct from Motor Trike. The Gladiator kit is ideal for touring duty as it accepts the standard Tour-Pak and passenger seat, and has a spacious trunk. The Sportster kit keeps things low and clean for 883s and 1200s, and the Spartan converts Softails. ■

hen it comes to restoring, rebuilding or customizing a motorcycle, making the right connections is critical. Celebrating 25 years, NAMZ Custom Cycle Products has been a trusted name in electrics, providing wiring solutions, terminals, plug-n-play harnesses and ECM modules for American V-Twins. NAMZ now welcomes customers to The Wire Farm, where your customers can find several wire styles and gauge sizes in multiple color combinations. Builders can find exactly what they want, and purchase only what they need, in order to complete the job. By today’s standards, the art of the build lies not only in the hardware, but in the intricacies of the electrics. Builders who maintain high standards and attention to detail will appreciate the ability to create a tailored wiring harness using trusted, quality materials. “The technology is different; it’s not as simple as it used to be,” said Jeff Zielinski of NAMZ Custom Cycle Products. “It’s not just about splicing wires. There’s a lot of technology involved. We’re at the forefront of that. While it is a complex process, there are also endless possibilities for everybody. The Wire Farm will provide the place for builders to find what they need to streamline the wiring harness for their ride.” The Wire Farm offers three classes of wire, starting with the GXL primary wire in 25-foot spools. GXL wire is a thin-wall, single-conductor automotive-grade hook-up wire covered in cross-linked polyethylene insulation. NAMZ GXL primary wire is a useful choice when heat issues or larger gauge sizes are involved. Customers can create hundreds of color combinations, with 10-, 12- 14- and 16-gauge offered in eight colors. Fabric-braided vintage hook-up wire is ideal for restorations, manufactured to re-create the look of original wire used on Harley-Davidson Flatheads, Knuckleheads and Panheads, as well as early British motorcycles. This 16-gauge bare-copper wire, with PVC insulation, one layer of cotton braid, and lacquer finish, is built in the USA and available in 25-foot bundles. PVC hook-up wire is the third category, offering 18-gauge and 20-gauge PVC wire in the most popular Harley OE color choices. The thin-wall lightweight single-conductor

Earplugs Designed for Motorcyclists

W

hen you think about the motorcycling experience, sound is a big part of it. Unfortunately, not all of the sounds are good – or good for you. Alpine Hearing Protection’s MotoSafe earplugs filter out wind noise while letting the good sounds, like the roar of the engine and chatter from a communication device, come through clearly. Alpine Hearing Protection is new to LeMans, so dealers now have easy access to the brand’s three styles of MotoSafe earplugs, including Tour, Race and Pro. Designed specifically for use on motorcycles, MotoSafe earplugs are made to provide just the right amount of hearing protection, while also being comfortable, even under a helmet.

HEARING PROTECTION

Hearing Helper

MotoSafe earplugs feature a proprietary filter design, called AlpineAcousticFilter, which dampens the high, harmful wind noise but allows other sounds to come through clearly.

At 75mph, wind noise under the helmet averages 98 decibels. Just 7 minutes at that sound level can damage hearing, but noise has another effect, too; it can increase fatigue. Hearing protection can not only preserve hearing, but it can also make a long day of riding less tiring. MotoSafe earplugs feature a proprietary filter design, called AlpineAcousticFilter, which dampens the high, harmful wind noise but allows other sounds to come through clearly. This includes things like talking, navigation instructions and, of course, the sound of the engine.

A filter earplug is a lot different than a foam earplug. With foam, the ear canal is completely closed, so every sound is muffled. This can not only cause problems when it comes to communicating, but it can also give riders a sense of isolation from the world around them. Foam earplugs can also become uncomfortable after long periods. MotoSafe earplugs, on the other hand, are made from a thermoplastic material called AlpineThermoShape. The material adjusts to the ear since body heat makes it more pliable. The filter is flexible, too, so the plugs are much more comfortable. MotoSafe earplugs are designed to be reusable, and they can be used more than 100 times. And, to make removing them easy, they include a unique Minigrip. Just tug on the small, soft grip to take the earplugs out. Different types of riding require different levels of hearing protection. MotoSafe Tour earplugs provide medium protection, while MotoSafe Race earplugs have stronger protection for the louder sounds generated by riding at high speeds or while wearing an open-face helmet. Each MotoSafe Tour and Race package includes two earplugs, a travel pouch and an Alpine insertion tube. The MotoSafe Pro package includes a set of both the Tour and Race earplugs, a travel case, Alpine Clean cleaning spray and an Alpine insertion tube. ■

DRAG DEALER PROFILE

S P E C I A L

Jason Hanson has continued the family tradition at Speed’s Performance Plus in Rapid City, South Dakota. The tradition? Helping squeeze big power out of their customers’ V-Twin motorcycles.

D

uring the past 25 years there have been notable changes at Speed’s Performance Plus, a familyowned business that’s been a mainstay at major American motorcycle rallies since 1998. That was the year SPP founder, Wayne “Speed” Hanson took his business of V-Twin high-performance engine tuning on the road.

Wayne also enjoyed racing motorcycles (and eventually cars, too). No surprise, Wayne’s bikes were among the fastest in the region, thanks in large part to his tuning skills and his racing talent. Eventually a small workshop popped up in the Hanson’s backyard. It proved to be the early makings of Speed’s Performance Plus.

Literally, on the road. That’s because Wayne outfitted an 18-wheel big rig and a couple of motorhomes to tow trailers packed with motorcycle parts and shop equipment (including a dyno), to travel from one motorcycle rally to the next. There the SPP crew would set up to offer their tuning services to Harley-Davidson owners seeking improved performance from their bikes.

By the 1990s business was booming, and the success prompted Wayne to consider an even more lucrative way to promote his skills. The solution, he determined, was to load his pickup truck and trailer with tools and parts before visiting bike owners and shops where he applied his tuning and mechanical prowess right on the spot.

To appreciate Wayne’s bold business venture, a little Hanson family history is in order. We can start with Dale Hanson, Wayne’s father, who, back in the 1940s and 1950s, applied his mechanical prowess to repair or service his personal motorcycles whenever necessary. Dale’s skills quickly drew the attention of other bikers near the Hanson homestead in Watertown, South Dakota, and wouldn’t you know it, young Wayne exhibited many of his father’s skills. A business, of sorts, was born.

86

DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE

Success there led to an even grander plan. He’d convert a suitable trailer to serve as a mobile service shop with dyno, tow it behind a powerful Freightliner truck, and head to where the real money awaited – the major motorcycle rallies across the nation. His first stop would be Daytona Bike Week. Of course, Sturgis, being in his home state, was on the agenda that year, too, among many other rallies. TAKING IT TO THE STREETS FOR 25 YEARS vacation time to spend at each rally so he could help with the wrenching. Younger son Jamie also joined the posse when he wasn’t taking care of business at Speed’s home shop in South Dakota. Not to be left out, Wayne’s wife Patty joined the act, helping maintain the ever-important ledger and bookkeeping side of the business. After a successful breakout year in 1998, the Speed’s road troupe resumed its annual rally-to-rally pilgrimage in subsequent years, taking time in between rallies to visit independent motorcycle shops and dealer shows. Among those stops was the dealer show at Indianapolis, a mainstay for Drag Specialties’ dealers. Outside the main Indy show arena sat the Speed’s Performance Plus mobile shop where the Hanson family kept busy throughout the event. Among the people who noticed the goings-on in and around Speed’s display was Brad Peterson of Drag Specialties. Jason Hanson recently recalled when Speed’s attended that dealer show, saying, “Brad Peterson had been paying close attention to what we were doing – selling parts to our customers. The last day of the show he came over and talked with my dad about our mobile business.” Part of that discussion centered around Speed’s selling new parts, many of which were popular performance products. Peterson made note that nobody was selling parts at these rallies or shows. “That is, nobody except us,” adds Jason.

The late Wayne Hanson took his high-performance tuning experience on the road, sticking close to the saying, “horsepower wins races, while torque wins smiles.” It’s a motto — and philosophy — that lives today through his sons Jamie and Jason.

That conversation with Peterson led to a meeting between the Hansons and Drag’s owner, Fred Fox, and the rest, as they say, is history. That meeting with Drag Specialties paved the way for what turned out to be momentous change for Speed’s Performance Plus. It could now offer Drag Specialties’ huge inventory of American V-Twin products. Of course, Speed’s remained the same dependable service shop it had set out to be. Even so, SPP’s customer base was about to enjoy even more direct access to some of the best V-Twin products on the market, be it OEM replacement or high-performance products. Another takeaway from that Indy meeting led to a pair of Speed’s Performance Plus feature articles in Drag Specialties Magazine (September/ October 2002, Volume 9 #9 and May/June 2004, Volume 11 #5) that gave established Drag dealers better insight to what Speed’s Performance Plus offered customers and dealers alike. That offering then – and now – remains the same. Speed’s offers high-performance tuning experience resulting in more torque and more horsepower for customers’ Harleys. Wayne Hanson had a gift for tuning, and he didn’t keep his philosophy a secret, sharing with his sons what he knew about performance tuning big-inch V-Twin engines.

Speed’s mobile service center travels to motorcycle events around the country, including the big one right in the store’s backyard, the Sturgis Rally.

For 25 years Speed's Performance Plus has taken its performance tuning services on the road and around to motorcycle rallies around the country. Loyal customers seek them out every time they’re in town.

His goal for any tune-up, he told his sons, was to find the engine’s “Golden Spot.” Doing so makes a bike, in Wayne’s words, “jump,” meaning the engine’s power band for street riding is best found from idle to about 4000 rpm. And how did he make the bike “jump?” As he stated more than once, “I don’t mind sucking three or four horsepower to give the engine seven or eight more foot-pounds of torque.” Keeping in mind that horsepower wins races, while torque wins smiles, Wayne reasoned that since a Harley rider isn’t chasing a checkered flag, then he is probably chasing a smile. And, nothing puts a smile on a Harley rider’s face like snappy engine performance. Wayne figured a motorcycle is mostly a transportation tool, made to get its rider from Point A to Point B. And his theory that putting a little seasoning in the mix helps create a motorcycle that “jumps” during the journey, whether that journey is to the next stoplight or to the next town or bike rally. Wayne’s sons subscribe to that philosophy, too, and it was Jason who, in 2008, built his own 2004 FLH into what today would be termed a Performance Bagger. His modified Bagger boasted an engine that called on 114 cubic inches to unleash pure power thanks to its 135 hp and more than 130 ft-lbs of torque – rather impressive numbers for a Twin Cam in 2008, let alone today. Foremost, Jason’s TC motor generated that power at a rather low rpm. It was, in Wayne’s world, an engine with a Golden Spot. Jason’s bike was featured later that year in IronWorks Magazine, and as he tells the story, the photo session included some comical drama. “The photographer asked me to park the bike on the railroad tracks for a side shot. When he finished the photo, I moved the bike off the tracks, but not soon enough. A few minutes later a train stopped further up the tracks from the railroad crossing. The engineer got out and asked for our names and other information. Turned out that whenever a train has to stop for any reason, a report has to be filed,” recalls Jason. In 2013, Speed’s experienced an exceptionally big, lasting and sad change – Wayne Hanson was diagnosed with a

brain tumor. He passed away two years later. A short time after that SPP set up larger headquarters in the Blackhawk area near Rapid City, South Dakota, complete with another dyno and service bays. During winter months SPP houses the company’s road equipment at Blackhawk, releasing it each spring so the crew can resume the annual road show circuit they’ve followed for 25 years. And, truly, it’s back on the road that Speed’s Performance Plus performs brilliantly. Indeed, many of their road customers look forward to taking their bikes to Speed’s when the mobile shop is in town. Among those loyal customers is Charlie, who Speed’s greets every year at Laconia for his Harley’s annual check-up by SPP. “Charlie brings us his bike at every year for an oil change,” says Jason. “When he picks up his bike after each service visit, he leaves a 12-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon.” Jason could add that, at the end of the day, Charlie takes with him a smile, something he’s been doing for many years now. It’s all part of the Golden Spot service by Speed’s Performance Plus. Keep smiling, Charlie. And Godspeed, Wayne. And congratulations for a successful 25 years to the entire SPP crew! ■

Clutch Kits for Big Power V-Twins

Many Bagger Racing League riders count on DP Brakes’ clutch kits to help transfer big power to their V-Twins’ drivetrains.

H

arley-Davidson performance and the Bagger Racing League are front and center topics in the V-Twin world. The Performance Bagger genre of racing has spread to street riders looking to not only up the power of their baggers, but also improve handling. One company has all fronts covered with its range of raceready brake pads and performance-oriented clutch kits for a range of Harley models. In fact, DP Brakes and Clutches is a proud sponsor of the BRL series, with its clutch kits found

on 2023 Bagger GP class champion Shane Narbonne’s Trask Performance Bagger. The Suburban Harley-Davidson team and many others also rely on the performance upgrade coming from the DPHK clutch kits. Many of those Milwaukee-Eight bikes across the BRL grid are packing the DPHK607 clutch kits, while riders in the DP-sponsored Sportster/FS Cup class look to the company’s DPHK601 kits to help transfer big power to their bikes’ drivetrains. DP’s DPHK clutch kits not only help enhance shifting performance, those heat-treated steel plates also provide smooth, progressive clutch action. A complete set of clutch springs are part of the package. That same fade-free and slip-free operation enjoyed by the BRL competitors out on the track is available directly to your V-Twin customer who is hard charging out on the street. The setup is also a durable upgrade over the OE clutch parts, a welcome addition to any Bagger rider’s build. ■

confident grip is essential, whether it’s where the rubber meets the road, or where rider meets machine. Maintaining a solid yet comfortable grip is a key element when it comes to enjoying the ride, so make sure your customers don’t overlook the important aspect of “manual traction” on their motorcycle. New from Avon Grips are the Diamond Contour grips, featuring many of the same qualities of its popular Custom Contour. The company, based in Kingwood, Texas, assembles and packages Avon Grips in the USA using premium materials such as Kraton rubber and billet aluminum. The Diamond Contour grips are molded in a slim diameter for optimum fit, the overall diameter slightly smaller than stock Harley-Davidson grips. The diamond-shaped contour pattern made from soft yet durable rubber compound helps ensure your customers’ hands maintain a comfortable grip on their machine with or without gloves. The cushioned texture not only provides comfort, but also helps minimize the dreaded effects of arm pump on the longer rides.

Avon’s new Diamond Contour grips offer a soft, grippy surface while maintaining a slim diameter.

The Avon Diamond Contour grips come in a variety of styles with billet aluminum ends, in chrome or black anodized, so your customers can find the ideal stylized accent for their ride. The flat-end cap offers a clean, classic vibe while the spiked-end option offers an edgier appearance. Black aluminum caps and collars finish off the premium look. Diamond Contour grips are sold in pairs, with pre-installed throttle and clutch-side tubes and throttle sleeve options for push-pull or ride-by-wire. ■

PISTONS

Performance Pistons

Designed, Forged and Machined in America There are many other bore sizes and compression ratios available to cover a wide range of builds.

JE Pistons’ big-bore piston kits are a great upgrade for customers wanting added performance for their Harley-Davidsons.

The M8 has a full menu of piston options as well. The 4.250-inch kit ramps 107s up into 114, and expands 114s into 128 CI. The 128 kits have a sky high 11.0:1 compression ratio, so not only is the engine taking bigger gulps of mixture, but it’s also squeezing it a lot harder for an even bigger bang. The end result? More torque and horsepower for an even more exciting riding experience.

I

t’s true – there is no replacement for displacement. More cubes means more power, and JE Pistons has the big-bore pistons to take your customers’ HarleyDavidson Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight bikes to the next level. JE’s 3.973-inch forged piston kit is a great option for 2007 through 2016 Twin Cam Harleys. These big-bore pistons turn 96-inch and 103-inch engines into 107 CI rippers. On top of the added displacement JE’s kit bumps compression up to 10.25:1 for even better performance.

Rotors for Performance and Looks GBrakes’ range of V-Twin rotors can be customized with a variety of colors for the carriers and the buttons.

T

here’s been a big focus on V-Twin performance in recent years, and that trend isn’t going anywhere. From Bagger racing to parts that make a bike lighter and faster, it’s all about both looking good and going fast. GBrakes front and rear rotors for V-Twins accomplish both of those things, pairing a high-performance rotor design with multiple color options for the carrier. Dealers at the Louisville NVP can stop by the GBrakes/Galfer booth to check out the GBrakes rotors for themselves. These

rotors are designed and manufactured in the U.S., making them a perfect addition to an American-made V-Twin. Dealers can also pick up info about the full line of braking components available from GBrakes and Galfer. GBrakes rotors for V-Twins start with the eye-catching design. Although it looks great, the rotor wasn’t designed that way for aesthetics. The shape improves braking performance and consistency, making the rotors a big upgrade over a stock setup. The full-floating rotor is made from a 420 high-carbon stainless steel, and it is paired with an anodized aluminum carrier to save weight. V-Twin riders get to choose from an array of colors for customizing their setup – with nine colors for the carriers and 11 for the buttons. The rainbow pop of color adds a great bit of visual interest to a part of the motorcycle that has, historically, been only about function rather than style. ■

BATTERY CHARGERS

Ready for Tuning

Chargers with Built-In Power Supplies

T

he ECM/ECU on many HarleyDavidsons, Indians and other custom American V-Twin motorcycles is updatable with the appropriate diagnostic tool. However, a successful upload is reliant on the battery voltage remaining stable above 12V. If the motorcycle’s battery drops too low, uploading can be interrupted and, at worst, the ECM/ECU memory could be permanently corrupted. TecMate offers OptiMate battery chargers with a built-in power supply/ TUNE mode that will stabilize battery voltage at 13.6V, ideal for software uploading or electrical troubleshooting.

The power-supply mode delivers a stable 13.6V at 8 Amps. The Rider solutions – These are for motorcycles with 12V lead-acid or 12.8V LFP lithium batteries. For 12V lead-acid (flooded or AGM) batteries, the power-supply mode of OptiMate 7 Select delivers up to 8 Amps, and the OptiMate 6 Select delivers up to 5 Amps. The power-supply mode can be activated even if the battery is low. TecMate offers a number of OptiMate battery chargers with built-in power supplies, which are great for use while servicing a bike.

There are a few different options available. The PRO solution – OptiMate PRO1-DUO is a 4-in-1 tool that works on all powersport batteries (lead-acid and lithium). It initializes new batteries and saves, charges and tests used batteries.

Pb

For 12.8V LFP lithium batteries – Lithium batteries are vulnerable to damage when deep discharged. The TUNE mode on OptiMate Lithium chargers can only be activated once the battery has been safely recovered and holds sufficient charge. OptiMate Lithium 4s10A delivers 8 Amps, and OptiMate Lithium 4s6A (3807-0597) delivering 5 Amps during TUNE mode. ■

Clutch Upgrades for Milwaukee-Eights

T

he clutch is the crucial link between a V-Twin’s engine and the rear wheel, and as your customers crank up the output of their HarleyDavidson Milwaukee-Eights with big bores and other mods, they better upgrade the clutch as well. Rekluse has the clutch equipment to not only increase torque capacity, but also add convenience. An immediate way to increase clutch durability is with a drop-in TorqDrive clutch pack. TorqDrive provides more disks in less space, adding up to six additional friction disks for up to 50 percent stronger clutch engagement, all without any increase in lever effort. For more torque capacity and clutchless convenience, the RadiusX auto clutch package is the way to go. This setup delivers high performance at a great value, combining TorqDrive friction technology with Rekluse’s flagship EXP disk. With this system, using the clutch lever is optional. The centrifugal EXP device engages the clutch as the rider rolls on the gas, yet the system allows the rider to retain full control of shifting and the clutch lever with no compromise on power delivery.

With clutch upgrades like its RadiusX auto clutch package, Rekluse has options for increasing torque capacity and offering clutchless convenience.

Both the TorqDrive pack and the RadiusX setup will drop into the stock clutch basket, but upgrading to a Rekluse billet basket provides more strength and smoother operation. This precision-machined component is a step up in quality and durability, and the final piece of the puzzle for a perfect clutch. ■

Spray-On Shield

Detailer to Shine and Protect

O

rdinary spray-on detailers are great – to a point. With a lot of silicone in their formulas you can wipe them on and everything looks bright and shiny, until it doesn’t. After as little as an hour in the sun, UV rays will have evaporated that detailer off, setting the look back to square one and exposing the surface to the elements. Cycle Care’s C6 Detailer changes all that. More than a silicone-based detailer, C6 is infused with carbon, a hard and strong pure element. C6 molecularly bonds to the surface it’s applied to, its organometallic, silicon-dioxide compound creating a permanent molecular bond to a vehicle’s surface to achieve maximum hardness, durability and a shine that lasts.

C6 won’t wash away or break down, its nano-carbon elements creating a singular-element coating that fills in all the imperfections of a factory clear coat, adding extreme protection against UV rays, acid rain, bird droppings, road salt, environmental pollutants, alkalies, and solvents. This advanced formulation wasn’t created overnight. Cycle Care invested years of chemical research to create C6 Detailer’s protective coating, developing and manufacturing it in the USA. A C6 carbon-infused finish doesn’t degrade and wash away, so the easily applied, high-gloss shine and durable, hydrophobic all-around protection is there for the long haul. ■ Cycle Care’s C6 Detailer provides a high-gloss shine and durable, hydrophobic all-around protection.

A Seat for Improved Reach

W

hether it’s for a long day on the road or five minutes of showing off, everyone deserves a seat that gives them comfort and ultimate control. The TailWhip seat from LePera Motorcycle Seats does both, and it is now available as the Up Front TailWhip, which moves the rider 2 inches closer to the handlebars. LePera already offers many of their seats in an Up Front version, so it’s no surprise that the TailWhip is now available in that style, as well. This revised seating position allows the rider to be closer to the handlebars, and it’s a great option for riders who need to close the distance for better ergonomics. The Up Front TailWhip will fit 2018 and newer HarleyDavidson Low Rider and Sport Glide models, and there are Bagger and Dyna fitments, too. This version of the seat includes the same features that make the standard TailWhip so popular. The seating area is a comfortable 11¾-inches wide, and the “whipped-up” tail design adds an ample 6¾ inches of back support. Its styling also provides a comfortable spot for a passenger.

LePera’s popular TailWhip seat is available in the new Up Front configuration, which moves a rider 2 inches closer to the handlebars.

Underneath the durable Biker Tec cover, LePera’s specially poured and formulated high-density Marathon molded foam provides all-day comfort. All of that sits on top of a 16-gauge powder coated steel baseplate that is carpeted on the bottom. The seats are handmade in the USA at LePera’s headquarters. ■

ome bikes are a particularly great platform for customizing, and the Harley-Davidson M8 Softails are in that category. However, a Softail’s stock ride height will not work for everyone, either because it’s not comfortable or because the aesthetics aren’t quite what the rider wants. Luckily, Müller Motorcycle makes ride height easy to change. Müller Motorcycle has an M8 Softail lowering kit for both comfort and aesthetics. And, to make it even better, there’s a spring compressor tool that ensures that installation is quick and easy.

Müller Motorcycle engineers and manufactures its lowering kits in its home country of Germany. They are made from stainless steel and billet aluminum to ensure durability and quality.

Müller Motorcycle’s lowering kit will fit all M8 Softails, and it has continuous adjustability down to 1.6 inches (40mm). This is ideal for riders looking to improve a bike’s ergonomics.

The lowering kit will fit all M8 Softails, and it has continuous adjustability down to 1.6 inches (40mm). That means a rider can go for the full lowering effect or dial the height to their exact preference. This makes the kit ideal for riders who are looking to improve the bike’s ergonomics.

Without a spring compressor tool, installing a lowering kit can be a real chore. With the tool, though, the job is straightforward. The Müller Motorcycle spring compression tool clamps onto the shock absorber, so the lowering kit can be installed easily. One small tool saves time and effort, and it prevents frustration. ■

portable power banks with solar, jump start power banks and other products.

RidePower has been designing and selling cables and accessories in the market since 2014. Founder Steve Young developed a charger cable for his phone which connected directly to his SAE battery connector cable. He incorporated advanced electronics circuitry into the cable and began selling to the powersports network.

RidePower’s rugged products are designed for the powersports sector – from motorcycles to watercraft and everything in between – and they are resistant to water, snow, dust and dirt. The premium circuit electronics products are designed to protect all devices and the power source. Plus, the cables for phone or electronic device charging are the newest on the market, with USBC-to-USBC connectors to charge all phones. RidePower’s 360-degree Countertop Display Stand is a great way to showcase a range of the company’s products.

The rest, as they say, is history. Young, in partnership with GloDea, has grown the RidePower collection from a single phone charger cable to a recognized brand that includes phone charger cables, power connector cables, adapters for the phone and power, inductive charging phone mounts, metal phone mounts,

A Countertop Display Stand is being showcased for release in January at NVP. It includes a 360-degree display stand plus many of the top-selling products offered by RidePower. ■
