Yearbook Dedication

This year is Coach Farrer's 30th year at Pepperell.
This year we dedicated our new yearbook to Coach Jimmy Farrer. The decision to do so could not have been any better because Coach Farrer, with his dedication and great sense of humor, is very deserving of this acknowledgement.
9 1

In 1972, he graduated from Pepperell High and lettered three years in football and four years ,in baseball. He then received a baseball scholarship to Shorter College where he lettered in baseball for four years. In 1977, he graduated from Shorter with a Bachelors of Science degree in Math. In the same year, he was a student teacher at Model High School where he was later employed. During his time at Model, he was also an assistant baseball coach.
Mr. Jimmy Farrer
In the fall of 1977, Coach Farrer began teaching math at Pepperell High School and was assistant baseball coach under Otis Gilbreath. Upon Mr. Gilbreath's retirement, Coach Farrer became head baseball coach for several years. In 1993, Coach Farrer received a Master in Math Education from Jacksonville State University, and in 1998 he received a Specialist Degree from the University of Alabama.

With the season starting a month early, the Varsity Competition Cheerleaders went through hard, brutal practices trying to get ready for the upcoming season. They were especially determined to make a good showing at their first annual Pepperell Invitational at the Forum. Despite injuries, the cheerleaders proved they could get through any obstacle if they stuck together as a team. The cheerleaders won region this year securing them a spot in the State finals. An upset came when the girls fell shy of first place falling shortly behind Calhoun, another 7AA region rival. The girls had an outstanding season with major accomplishments , including Region Champs, as well as State Runners-up.

The 2006-2007 Varsity Lady Dragons basketball team had an outstanding year. With a 13-11 record, the team came out with a winning season. Having only three seniors, the Lady Dragons did a great job working together to become a stronger team. "I believe what made this team stronger this year opposed to last year is the team chemistry. If you can't play together, you can't win, and I think we all found that out," said sophomore Emma Horne. The year progressed drastically from the beginning to the end, and the team has high expectations for themselves for next

The 2007 Basketball cheerleaders did a great job supporting and cheering on our Dragon basketball teams this year. The teams are coached by Mrs. Gail Silver. The basketball cheerleading squads were very young this year which gives them an advantage for next season. Not only did the girls keep the crowds up cheering, the cheerleaders also made the basketball locker decorations for the home games to go in the new locker rooms. They also provided candy and cookies to give the players before every home and away game.

Aftera disappointing end to the 200 5 season with a loss in the Sweet 16 to Westside Augusta, the Dragons entered the season with revenge on their mind. Returning the majority of the starters, Pepperell had experience on their side and they benefited greatly. The Dragons, led by Head Coach Mike Moore, Assistants Wright Edge and Andrew Smith, finished the season 25-4 with their first Region 6-AA Championship in a long time. The Dragons battled the Calhoun Yellow Jackets for the title and won 3-1. With the win, PHS hosted its first playoff series since the 1980's. Sweeping Pace Academy in style, the Dragons advanced to the second round at home against Wesleyan School. Pepperell came up short in both games eliminating them from the Sweet 16. Though they did not make it further in the playoffs than 2005, it was more successful due to the Region Championship. Soon after the season ended, the Dragon's Outfielder Tom Hickman was selected in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Florida Marlins. He was selected 63rd overall.

The Pepperell High School tennis team got off to a rough start recovering from the loss of many key players. The team walked onto the courts in late January not knowing what to expect. Every spot on both teams were up for grabs. However, everybody on the teams really came together and they had a great season. After many difficult wins, including ones over rivaled state champs Darlington, the teams were atop the region. The success sent the girls team to state for the 7th straight season and the boys for their 5th straight season.

The 2006 golf season was very successful. The team posted several match wins and a fourth place finish at the Region 6-AA contest in April. The team was led by seniors Cameron Barnes and Come Schalkwyk, "whose shoes will be tough to fill next year," according to Coach Jamie Alcorn. The team was also paced by multiple strong performances by Frankie Miranda, Woody Brownlow, Jared Hemphill, and Matt King. If this past season was any indication as to the future of the golf program, it will be strong for years to come, especially with hard work and dedication during the offseason.
