STUDENT COUNCIL Th e purpose of this organization is to establish higher and better ideals of conduct; to train the students to live usefully in a democracy; to encourage student participation in all school activities and to create and foster a spirit of understanding and co-operation between students and faculty. Among the leading projects are: sponsoring a cleanup day and kee ping the grounds clear of paper.

BETA CLUB The Beta Club is a non-secret, achievement-service organization for students of senior high schools. Its purpose is the promotion of hon esty, service, and leadership.

Any state accredited high school is eligible for a chapter. Local organizations are subject to regulation and supervision by the administration of the high school where the chapter is located.

In order to become a membe r, a student must obtain a B-plus average and meet the approval of all members of the faculty and administration.

The Library Club is a real working club with 23 members giving one hour each day to work in the library. Some of the duties are: working behind charging desk, checking attendance, helping younger students find books they need, typing, cataloging, filing and checking the mail. The big project for the year is to buy ston e benches, tables, and umbrellas to be used in an outdoor reading room. Another project is to write to a former Library Club member away a t co llege.

.MERICA FUTURE HOMElVIAI(ERS OF AMERICA The Future Hom emakers of America was founded June 11, 1945, and is ~n incorporated non-profit youth organization. Any pupil who has been enrolled or is enrolled in Hom emaking may become a member. Th e emblem of th e Future Homemakers of America is octagonal in shape and bears the name of the organization; around the top and below is the motto TOWARD NEW HORIZONS. In the center is a house supported by two hands which symbolizes that the future homes of America are in the hands of its youth. Th e colors of the Future Hom emakers of America are red and white. A RED ROSE is symbolic of vibrant, glowing health - a necessary attribute for happin ess and effi ciency in home and group life. The motto of the Future Homemakers of America is TOWARD NEW HORIZONS.

DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION

In this course the students study retail selling. They go to work where they practice what they study at school. Mr. W. F. Burk is our local Co-ordinator. They have a directors' meeting in Atlanta, usually in October when the state officers are elected.

A state convention is held in Savannah during which the students are in contests of speech, arithmetic, and spelling. The most outstanding student is also se lected.

There are 10,000 students in the National D.E. Clubs.
