Improved safety and operational efficiency with MiX Vision AI

At the beginning of the year our telematics offer was extended by the MiX Vision AI MiX Telematics. MiX Vision AI is a camera system that uses Artificial Intelligence to deliver Advanced Driving Assistance (ADAS) capabilities.

Traditional dash camera systems only capture video footage of what is happening on the road and in the vehicle. However, humans have to go through lots of video footage to find what they are looking for and then act on it after-the-fact. Dash camera systems which use Artificial Intelligence (in the form of machine vision) understand what is happening in realtime, without human input. Thanks to detection of risky driving behaviour that can lead to fatal accidents, they not only protect drivers but also create the “event” data that is used to direct the driver to change their behaviour immediately, to ensure road safety. By channelling relevant information directly to drivers in real-time and to driver managers after-thefact, AI-enabled dash cameras offer a much more effective and efficient way of improving and maintaining safe and fuelefficient driving standards.

Why should I choose MiX Vision AI system?Cameras Overview Cameras Overview

MiX Vision AI system includes driver-facing camera, in-cab facing camera, road-facing camera and AI driving coach. This enables to detect risky driving behaviour such as phone use, fatigue, distraction, seatbelt use, smoking, changing lanes without using a signal, unsafe journey and possible forward collision. Risky driving behaviour is detected immediately - the drivers are warned by means of visual and acoustic signals (or both) that they must correct their behaviour to avoid a possible collision. This basic real-time intervention significantly reduces risky driving behaviour in the fleet.

Can I choose which risky driving behaviours to monitor?

Transport fleets have different needs and constraints. A fleet manager can choose which risky driving behaviour events to monitor. The roadfacing camera can detect unintended lane departure, unsafe following distance and alert on imminent forward collision. The driver-facing camera can detect risky driving behaviour and send real-time alerts for events such as seat belt usage, fatigue, phone use, distraction and smoking. The wide-angle in-cab facing camera records real time video and audio footage of the cab interior.

The fleet manager can request that certain events are disabled if they are not needed. Our experience in the implementation of driver monitoring solutions showed that some customers prefer to start with a simple configuration and let that bed-in and be accepted by drivers before turning on additional features. MiX Vision AI also allows for this approach.

It should also be noted that in addition to the risky driving behaviours detected by MiX Vision AI, the MiX on-board computer also detects poor driving performance behaviours such as speeding, harsh braking, harsh acceleration and harsh cornering.

MiX Vision AI monitoring - Live, Historical Views and MyMiX

Video footage for risky driving behaviour events (driver monitoring) is downloaded immediately, as these are treated as active events. Video footage for driving performance events (speeding, harsh braking & acceleration) is downloaded at end of the trip.

Fleet managers have access to the footage on the MiX Fleet Manager portal under ”Live tracking”, ”Historical tracking”, ”Trip timeline” or in the Info Hub. Video footage for each detected event is automatically downloaded from the vehicle in 8 second segments for each event. The managers can also make a Video on Demand request for a 2 minute 30 second segment of footage if they want to see more activities leading up to and after a specific event, or even when no event was detected. This option is useful for collision reconstruction and insurance claims. Moreover, fleet managers can view video footage for risky driving behaviours in the MiX Mobile app.

How can I engage my drivers with MiX Vision AI technology?

MiX Vision AI cameras are designed to be unobtrusive when installed so as to not distract the driver from doing their job. The cameras automatically start recording when the vehicle ignition is switched on, meaning the driver does not have to do anything to activate it.

Drivers are engaged in real-time through the AI Driving Coach, which is mounted on the vehicle dashboard. This tool delivers real-time visual and audible alerts that trigger when a driver causes a risky driving behaviour event.

Drivers have access to the MyMiX driver engagement app. This tool informs drivers about their driving characteristics, route behaviour, etc. Using the app, drivers can view their driver scores and see the video footage for their risky driving behaviours. This creates an awareness that initiates the process of driving behaviour improvement.

By providing the video footage and associated event data to both drivers and driver managers in an easyto-view way, the driver performance management process is made much more effective and efficient.

MiX Vision AI camera system

- Monitors risky driving behaviour in real-time to improve fleet safety.

- Offers a more effective and efficient driver performance management tool.

- Protects drivers and the company against false insurance claims.

- Video footage can be used to analyse accidents after the fact to determine the cause and prevent future incidents from occurring.

- Helps monitor compliance to meet fleet health and safety policy requirements.
