The Heraldry Society The Abu Dhabi Arts & Culture Society (ADAS) and the Heraldry Society Founder and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arts Society, Dr Hamed Bin Mohamed Khalifa Al Suwaidi proudly promotes the Heraldry Society, a non-profit organisation, devoted to studying and promoting heraldry. Heraldry is the systematic use of hereditary devices centred on the shield. The possession of personal arms has always been a mark of great honour, linked to social status, and was initially confined to high ranking knights and noblemen, and subsequently spreading to a much wider stratum of society. The society was founded in 1947 as an educational charity that exists to increase and extend interest in and knowledge of heraldry, armory, chivalry, genealogy and allied subjects.
“For those who can decipher it, heraldry is an algebra – a language -Victor Hugo
Membership of the Society is open to anyone anywhere that has an interest in heraldry or who would like to learn more about the subject. Members are to be found in all parts of the world. Close ties are maintained with heraldry societies in other countries through the exchange of news and journals.
