Backpack System Backpack

Backpack Liner

Backpack padding

KS Ultralight KS40 - 40L Size Backpack - The packs are custom made and the finest in the world in terms of weight AND function. 30L Dry Bag - My backpack is mostly waterproof but for Nepal I want some extra protection, so the material is 30 denier. This liner will keep all you gear dry. At night it could also be used as a pillow if you stuff gear in it. Gossamer Gear 1/8in foam pad - It's the padding for my backpack but I also use it to sit on during breaks and at the guest houses.

Extra Clothing (Carried By Me) Umbrella

Rain Top

Rain/Wind Bottom

Walking Insulation

Stop Top Insulation

Used by mountain people all over the world, for good reason. Cheap and way better for rain when you're walking below treeline; save the goretex shells for up high. Arc'teryx Alpha SV - We were in rain only once and in blowing snow once (both in the afternoon) and was glad I brought this fully featured shell. The hood is perfect. For Nepal, have a shell with fabric that's 40d (denier) or higher, as those are more weather resistant. Montbell Storm Cruiser Gore Tex C-knit. These are bit light for mountain use, but it's what I had. We were so close to the guest house the day it rained, I never put these on. Marmot Orso Wool Blend Hoody - 203g/m2 Fabric Weight. This piece is for keeping insulated while walking (down to 15F/-10C) and it is designed to go under the wind shell. This hoody is also perfect for hanging out in tea houses. This is a piece you will wear all the time. Montane 850 Alpine - This piece is for when you stop hiking and it's cold, or when you hike when it's VERY cold. Honestly, you may only really NEED this on top of Kala Pathar. I chose this piece because it has the right amount of down fill and the baffles are boxed construction, not sewn through baffles, which greatly increases warmth.

Water Bottle 1L Nalgene LIGHT Bottle with wide mouth Water System (Carried By Me) Steri Pen - I'll be honest, we defaulted to our normal fiber water filter we take camping, but that is NOT the best thing to Water Purification do in Nepal, as those filters do not kill viruses. None of them do. A Steripen kills all microbes AND viruses. I'll definitely bring a steripen next time.

Toilet Roll Lip Balm Hand Sanitizer Suncreen Leukotape Gauze Anti-poo/Histamine/Ibuprofen Sew Kit

Nepal toilet rolls are good and available everywhere on the EBC. A must in high, dry, and cool conditions. Because of my work, I am used to washing my hands often. Get in the habit! SPF 30+. Don't forget to cover the tops of your ears. I see old men in my practice that have skin cancers on the tops of their ears. Perfect for the rare blister or cut on silicone release paper. Gauze Sterile Prepack x 1. I use this gauze onto a wound and place the leukotape over top. it's FAR better holding than a band aid/ plaster and you can cover a larger wound. Basics! One large loop needle, bit of Tex 40 100% polyester thread. I pre thread the needle, then stick it into a sliver of cardboard, then wrap thread around the cardboard.

(Alternative) Warmer Sleeping Bag Room Lantern 100L Duffle Bag

Non Waterproof Trail Runners

NiteCore Nu25 - 360 max lumens, rechargable while in use, red light. This allows for 4 hours of night hiking with 190 lumens. Great for Kala Pathar or unexpected night hiking. Garmin inReach Mini. For messaging nervous family members. Safety is high in the Khumbu region. Apple iPhone 6in usb-c to usb-c cord - The phone and battery are usb-c For Nu-25 For phone

Western Mountaineering Alpinlite 20F/-7C - We slept in shorts every night. No one does sleeping bags better than Western Mountaineering. I will say though, if you're sleeping alone, the small rooms will be a bit colder than when two people are in a room. Western Mountaineering Badger 15F/-10C - If you need more than 20F/-7C of warmth. Remember, on the coldest nights you would also be wearing some of your clothes. Nitecore LR40 - Honestly the STAR piece of gear for the entire trip. Lodges have power issues from time to time, but light bulbs are often dead. Mountain Hardware Expedition Duffle 100L. This has a divided compartment that REALLY helps you compress gear and organize. For Sarah, myself, my camera gear. I recommend Topo Athletics Shoes - DO NOT JUST BRING HEAVY WATERPROOF BOOTS. Again, it's warmer than you think and heavy boots are no fun to climb in. Heavy boots are for highly technical terrain and\or heavy packs, and you're not doing either on the EBC.

Duckworth Vapor Snorkel Wool Blend Hoody - Choose a wool mix or pure merino top to sleep in to keep the stink down Sleep Socks Thick Wool Crew Socks Smartwool Merino 250 bottoms. To sleep in, walk in cold Sleep Bottoms / Cold Weather Walking temperatures, and I would also wear these to dinner. Houdini Omni Pants. Don't go overboard on heavy softshell pants. Remember, if the weather turns, you have long johns Heavier Pants and rain pants to protect you. Any weather worse than that, and you'll wait out the weather in the lodge. Bryjne Wool Mesh Baselayer. Mesh baselayers hold warmth in the mesh holes and also allow for sweat to evaporate away Long Sleeve Walking Baselayer from your skin. These types of baselayer were actually worn by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on their first ascent. OR Echo Hoody - Lukla to Dengboche is warmer than you Light Sun Shirt think. You must bring light clothes. Marmot Juniper 5in - Some days are quite warm. The tough Shorts nylon is durable. Enlightened Equipment Stronghold Mittens - So warm, you Warm Gloves will only need this on top of Kala Patthar Naturehike Down pants sized for layering. May only be used Stop Bottom Insulation once on Kala Patthar, but it will help those moments. SIZE UP. Windproof Balaclava Face protection may be needed from Pheriche to EBC. Montane Puffy Hut Slippers. Make sure lodge shoes have a Lodge Shoes Warm rubber sole, as you will want to walk into washrooms and sometimes the floor is disgusting. Lodge Shoes Cool Shamma Sandals - Loved having these in Namche and lower Extra Underwear Wool and Prince Merino 2nd Socks Merino Wool Blend Ear Plugs Latex - Nepali dogs sleep all day and bark all night. Microspikes / Crampon Hillsound - Never needed Backup sunglasses Not fun to not have sunglasses - Could be bought on trail. Power Bank - 10,000mAh Nitecore NB10000 10,000mAh. Wall Charger - North America Anker Powerport III Nano For Nepal, rarely needed as all the outlets were universal Wall Adapter - Nepal type. Paper Maps Nepal Everest Region. Pick up in Thamel. For hand washing and for washing hair/body if a good 3 in 1 Soap shower presents itself. I avoided the showers, Sarah took one in Namche. Toothbrush Bamboo Kids Toothbrush Ibuprofen + Anti-poo + Lozenges + diamox + multivitamins + Nepal Specific Medication Dayquil + Melatonin + baby wipes for crevasses every third day + Ventolin (I did not use) Sleep Top

My Worn Hiking Clothing Boots Socks Light Pants

Under Shirt

Topo Ultraventure WP - a WIDE forefoot is non negotiable for me. It's a trail runner style boot with eVent waterproofing. Honestly, these were not necessary for my particular trip, I could have easily done the entire trail with non waterfproof trail runners. Merino Wool Crew MEC Tech Pants - Super impressed by these, as they have tough nylon, a seat gusset for mobility, and are roomy enough to put long johns underneath. Castelli Wool Mesh undershirt. The open mesh allows sweat to come to you skin and phase change from liquid to vapor. Phase changes on your skin add an extra cooling effect. Wicking is a thing, but it doesn't work all that well. You want the sweat to evaporate ON your skin. SIZE UP.

Wool Hoody (medium weight) Wind shirt Light gloves Hat Sunglasses Watch Buff or Fleece Tube Trekking Pole(s)

Ibex Indie 180gm/m2 Merino Hoody Arcteryx Squamish 2024 - Medium level of breathability, but that's a good thing up high. It's fully featured and durable. This will go on over my base shirt. Should winds really pick up, I'll put it over the wool hood. Hestra Windshield Liner Trucker hat Sunski Couloir. Glacier glasses are essential as Nepal is windy! Apple Watch - Super interesting to have the health data on this tough trip Neck cover + ear warmer + eye mask At 18,000ft / 5,000m it's not just for old people; especially when going downhill.
